We use the furminator and I think it reduces the amount of shedding but you have to use it pretty regularly. It also removes dirt from the dog's coat which is nice for an indoor pet. The only time it doesn't seem to help as much is with seasonal shedding - spring when they drop the winter coat and fall when they drop the fine hair and move back into the winter coat. This might be more of a Wisconsin/cold weather phenomenon. I only use it once a week - so if I used it more frequently in spring and fall that might help. Maizey

LK....Love the quilt. I sew to but not that. I sell alot of my things at a store on base. It's fun. You of course don't really make money off some things but it's a hobby not a career.
Have you ever made a quilt handbag?

Yep, I just purchased one a few days ago. I got some fur off but he still sheds. I think to that some ppl don't notice the shedding as much b/c it don't bother them. Me however, don't care for the fur everywhere. I am constantly sweeping and vaccuming.
I haven't been faithful with the furminator yet so I can't make an honest opinion about it yet. I will update you when I find out.
I figure all the sweeping and cleaning burns a few more cals a day!LOL!

Have you tried a Furminator? http://furminator.com/ I know two people who have it - one has black labs, the other golden retrievers, and they both swear by it.

We had Toby neutered before he ever hiked his leg, and he still squats. It is wonderful when we travel with him cause he does his business once and then it is time to ride again. We had Rambo fixed when he was 4 and he still visited all over the yard. The vet told us that Toby might never hike and he doesn't and he is now 7 yrs.

And the shedding, that is definitely the only negative we have with Toby. Someone told me to comb him good everyday and he wouldn't shed as much. She lied. lol I did not see that it helped. If you find something that does, pass it on please.

Thanks everyone!
I was born and raise in Washington,NC. Met my husband while he was stationed in J'ville. He is from OK. He gets to retire in 5 yrs. so we are planning to move the the NC mountains.

My lab is almost 6months now and we do keep him in the house. I am now realizing how bad they shed. He is spoiled, very smart and loves to chew the kids toys so that rm is off limits to him. My goodness he goes through some toys. He gets neutered next week.

emoticon Jennifer. We do love our labs and relate funny tales, brag, and swap advice about them besides supporting each other in our battle of the bulge. I read on your page you live in NewBern NC. My daddy retired at Camp LeJeune in the early 60's and we lived there 5 yrs. I loved Jacksonville, NC but haven't been back since we moved to GA in 64. Hope you like NC too.

Hi I just stumbled upon this team today and had to join! This photo is Bailey, now 2.5 years old and still acting like a puppy! We got her at 7 months, coming off a questionable existence with her previous owners (but that's a whole other story). She's now my primo exercise buddy and best friend.

emoticon . Glad you joined out team. We are definitely a bunch of lab lovers and treat them as children. We have a 7-yr old male yellow 105-110 lb lab that is a house pet. Toby is my dh's ears as he is totally deaf (7 yrs now) and Toby lets him know when someone comes to the house. Just jump right in and visit with us.

I just had to join this team because my lab, Honey, is my running partner. Honey is almost 3 years old and is a dark yellow/fox red lab. She is beautiful. I have to get a picture of her on my sparkpage. Honey just had her 2nd litter on February 16th. The pups are 5 weeks old now. She had 1 black male, 4 yellow males, and 3 yellow females. Two of the pups are a dark yellow like her. We are considering keeping one of the pups and our neighbors are definitely adopting the black male - they have already named him Max. I am so glad there are a bunch of other Lab Lovers out there because Honey is definitely one of my favorite topics!
