Returning to group--may have already done this but here I go again....
1. Back and forth between west suburban KC and SW OH near Cincinnati...in KC at the moment.
2. Born in Denver but mostly grew up in Springfield, MO--lived in an assortment of places.
3. Separated but slowly reconciling--hubs lives in our modest house in OH.
4. One almost 30-yr-old daughter (living w/ her in KC); 35-yr-old stepson born in/lives in Anchorage.
5. Four different-breed purebred cats--red Somali Max (look up Mittsnpaws Miromax) and white Norwegian Forest Cat Snow live here w/ me; Chartreux Valiant and black smoke Turkish Angora Pixie live w/ husband--I take mine w/ me when we go to OH to visit.
6. Sewing/knitting/crochet; I really love designing my own patterns. Also a big recipe collector; could always use more inspiration.
7. Been on Spark for about 5 yrs w/ MANY restarts.
8. Cooking for one here normally; two in OH. We are both disabled d/t ruined knees or feet so I have to do things w/ minimal cleanup--I want to put what strength and pain tolerance I have into creating and making the food, not KP.
9. Please share your ideas, especially on how to streamline prep--I can't stand and chop or stir for very long at a time. Hubs is morbidly obese but losing slowly (lap band from 2007 is still in there but too loose to do much--he's had problems w/ it for the last 2-3 yrs).
10. Somebody come and slap me when I start in w/ my self-pitying whining.

Born and raised in the hills of East TN and I have lived in the same county all my life except for the 5 years I was a travel nurse.

I am divorced, no children

I live with my one little rescue dog named Maggie and would have more if I could take care of them

Hobbies-- Crochet, computer time, watching the Atlanta Braves games

Been with SP since 2009. I left when I became very sick but now been back for over a year

I cook just for me and need some ideas to cook something I don't have to eat for a week. I do put things in the freezer but bad abt throwing them out before I use them-I just didn't want them and they had been in the freezer too long. For health reasons must be low sodium and sugar..

Recipes and strategies, as well as motivation. My journey so far is largely related to finding ways that I can enjoy healthy foods (especially vegetables and proteins) that I have never liked before. I am branching out and becoming more adventurous, but it takes A LOT of recipes to find the ones I enjoy and that will slowly introduce these foods and get me to a place where I truly enjoy them. In just three weeks I have added 6 new vegetables to the list of foods I enjoy and I can't wait to add more!

My screen name is inspired by my mascot -- a cactus that has been with me since college and who I consider one of my biggest motivators on this journey. He has survived many trips cross country, a "snowmageddon" winter, and a shattered pot, but has always survived and thrived. If a cactus can do it, I know I sure can!

2. Was born in Idaho, raised in Texas as a kid and moved back up to the northwest when I was 15yrs
3. Engaged

5. I have 7 dogs, 4 ferrets, fiances family has a cattle ranch with farm ground and horses that I help out on.
6. I love to be around animals and ride horses. I like to garden and enjoy the sun
7. I have only been a member for a little over a week. Heard about it form my doctor
8. I am cooking for two, one of which really doesn't like vegetables
9. In the past I have never really had a hankering for cooking, I love to bake though. I really didn't learn when I was growing up how to balance meals. I just ate what my mother put in front of me, and back then I was way more active. I would like to learn how to build a balanced menu and a grocery list of the basics for eating better.


Anything that you can provide or a a direction in where to start would greatly be appreciated.

My name is Nancy and I'm a retired teacher. I live in southeast Quebec, Canada. I'm single and share my home with my Pugal(Pug-Beagle cross), Oreo.
Though I have no children, I have nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews who are like my own.
I'm interested in music( I play the piano), writing, reading and helping out in the community,
I help women's groups from time to time to write their memoirs.
I am a past member with SparkPeople and have had a little success off and on but give up.

I cook for myself sometimes, but this is a problem for me. Fresh produce is usually difficult to use up before I have to throw it out. For that reason, I turn to processed foods and take-out or just grazing all day long.
I hope to find some quick nutrious and filling recipes and help in planning meals so I only have to grocery shop once every two weeks.
I know this is the team for me. I have read your stories and relate.

New York City born & raised.

Currently living with aunt & uncle (aunt is also a member) and, since we're on the healthy living journey together, doing most of the cooking. So the cooking being done is usually for the 3 of us.

Will be cooking for myself upon getting back on my feet and in my own place again. Single & child-free.

hello everyone! This team sounds great, I am always throwing food away because I don't want to eat it a 5th or 6th time, more recently I started making freezer meals so that helps.

6. Hobbies, interests: Love farming, keeps me on my toes, gardening, reading, quilting and sewing, woodwork, love to cook fresh foods.
7. How long a member of spark? was here a couple of years ago but never did anything but sign up, started about a month ago for real

9. How can the team help in supporting and aiding you in meeting your goals? ideas for small portions, recipes, motivational ideas.
10. Anything else you want us to know about you? I work 12 hour night shifts 3 days a week, so I try to cook ahead for those days since there is extremely limited time, I really don't like eating the same stuff day after day, so leftovers are better limited. I got a fitbit about a month ago, it really helps me make sure I am getting enough exercise. I have lost 18 lbs so far and intend to continue down after I meet the present goal.

1. Location? Corinth, TX (small town about 45 min drive north from Dallas/Ft. Worth)
2. Is this where you are from? Not really. I grew up in east Texas in a very small town (about 300 people) about a 45 min drive west of Texarkana. I also lived in Fayetteville, AR for 2 years while in college.
3. Married? Yep, just celebrated our 2 year anniversary last Monday.
4. Kids? Not yet. Been trying for about 6-9 months (depending on your definition of "trying"). Found out I have hypothyroidism and I really just need to get healthier before getting pregnant. Got a nephew due in May, though, so I'm super excited about that!
5. Animals? Not anymore. We had a sweet Jack Russell named Shiloh but she was hit by a car in December and we had to put her down. One of the hardest and most traumatic things I have gone through as an adult. It was so much harder on my poor husband though. He isn't ready for a new dog just yet. His parents had to put their dog down that had originally been his dog just a couple of weeks later too, so it wasn't a good winter for us.
6. Hobbies, interests? Baking, cooking, studying Christian theology/apologetics, writing, learning to crochet/knit, reading, board gaming, SciFi movies/tv/books
7. How long a member of spark? I can't really remember. I use to be super active and lost 70 lbs at one time. I was even asked to be profiled in the SparkPeople book they put out a few years ago but after changing jobs, moving, and a knee injury I got lazy and gained it all back. :(
8. How many are you cooking for? 2 mainly but we like to have people over as often as possible so occasionally more. :)
9. How can the team help in supporting and aiding you in meeting your goals? Not really sure. I've never been one to do a "group thing" much but I just enjoy talking with others who are going through the same thing. I would say motivation because that has been my biggest problem the last few years but, really, I have to have the motivation come from me rather than someone else. I have had success from others challenging me in the past, however. :)
10. Anything else you want us to know about you? AS you can probably tell by my "hobbies/interests" I am a pretty strong Christian. I am also a major geek. I'm talking seen every Star Trek, fairly obsessed with Doctor Who, goes to board game conventions, kind of geek. :) Also, I just recently became a stay at home wife. I am working on getting our house organized and cleaned, starting an online restaurant review site, starting a home baking business, and writing. Busy, busy, busy. :)

Hi my name is Mary and I live in WI. It is just me and my husband now that the kids are all gone from home, it is hard to cook for 2 people now. I am used to cooking for big eaters. I have 2 Labs one yellow and one brown. I love to garden and can when in season. I have 5 grandchildren and I love them all dearly. I am sick of the snow this year because we have had more than usual. I love to cook and that is my problem because i love to eat what I cook. It will be good to be with a groupe to cheer me on.

Hello Sam.
Avocados can be used in lots of ways besides guacamole.
There's the regular mushy guacamole and also chunky style. You mix chopped avocado, finely diced onion, tomato (seeded) and salt, pepper, and lime juice.
I chop them into my salads, slice them into sandwiches i.e. chicken, cheese or ham, just as a side with a low-fat meal and they add good fats and great texture to smoothies . emoticon
I'm sure there are lots of other recipes you add them to but these came to mind right now. Hope you enjoy trying them.

Hi, my name is Simone and am so glad I discovered this group. I've be searching for resources on this subject and it's been an exercise in frustration. I've had little luck on the internet, in the library or in bookstores.

6. Hobbies, interests genealogy, quilting, reading (I almost always get my reading material from the library, except for a large box of mysteries and suspense novels that were given to me. Books are just too expensive unless it's a reference that I need to have on my shelf for my research.)
7. How long a member of spark? Not sure. I joined when the site was brand new, left for several years, returned last July.
8. How many are you cooking for? One and I need my plan to be uncooked or uncultured milk free.
9. How can the team help in supporting and aiding you in meeting your goals? I really need recipes that don't need to be adjusted in quantities of ingredients. I need to learn how to shop for one person so I'm not wasting a lot of food, especially produce. I've spent over 30 years shopping for a family from 5-8 people and the adjustment is still in process.
10. Anything else you want us to know about you? I also would like to make some friends in the group for mutual encouragement .

After a visit to the doctor's office on Monday I have to go for blood tests today for glucose levels and cholesterol as well the regular tests. It's frustrating because I did these tests in October and my doctor was away in Ireland so although someone noted problems on the report, no one notified me. The normal procedure is that you only hear anything if there's a problem so I thought all was as usual but no, my thyroid was low and I need higher meds, And sugar levels were HIGH so that means I need monitoring and treatment for diabetes.
So I guess I'll also need to be sure all my recipes are suitable for diabetic diets.

Hi. I'm Sam and I am returning after almost 2 years. My first go-around, I lost 60lbs but then I let life get in my way. I hope to repeat positive results again and this time STICK WITH IT.

1. I live in Ohio (South-Central)
2. I was born in MI, lived in IL as a kid but have been in Ohio most of my life.
3. My Fiance and I have been together 11 years. We just haven't got around to making it official.
4. Animals? Does 3 horses, 1 goat, 3 cats and 3 dogs count? Most of my babies are rescues.
5. My hobbies are showing horses, swimming, camping and taking care of the farm. Oh, and I read a lot of historical romance novels. (I scour thrift stores & yard sales for them)
6. I joined Spark in 2011. I just passed a one month streak since returning.
7. Mainly I'm just cooking for myself. Other half is hard to please as he would rather exist on mac & cheese from a box, McDonalds and ice-cream. He hates most veggies so it is hard to find things we will both eat.
8. Most of my issues have to do with meal planning. Breakfast is not a problem as I have a few tried & true things that work for me and keep well. Part of the problem is I seldom stick to what I have planned for dinner because I either get in the house to late or what is planned does not sound good that day. The other issue is coming up with a plan for the week that will use up the fresh ingredients I buy. I'm really OK with eating the same thing a couple days in a row if I really like it or taking leftovers for lunch. Currently, I have an avocado I need to cut but I don't want to eat it all at once and I know they get gross if you don't eat them right away. Need some ideas because the only way I've tried it is guacamole.
9. My goal is to make some friends on here that I can check in with from time to time to encourage each other.
10. I am sure I will have more to share once I get to know you all.

9. How can the team help in supporting and aiding you in meeting your goals? - I joined because of the "What's for dinner tonight" thread that'll ensure I'm cooking. My challenge is not eating and it's especially easy for me to not cook when I'm ONLY cooking for me and my son.

10. Anything else you want us to know about you? - My partner is active duty Navy and deployed until May. We only have his kids on the weekends when he's home. Hence the cooking for 2, even though it sounds like we have a full house, lol.

ALSO! Please to Team Goodies. I have a stalker on here and I'm trying to keep a low profile. Thank you!

Location: West suburban Kansas City
From here: No, grew up in Ozarks, also lived in PA a long time ago plus 10 yrs recently in OH
Married: Separated, husband lives in OH
Kids: Daughter age 29, best roommate ever.
Animals: Two retired show cats; red Somali (look up Mittsnpaws Miromax--Max for short) and a blue-eyed white hearing Norwegian Forest Cat Snow (14 lb boy). Both spoiled rotten. Other 2 cats (black smoke Turkish Angora girl and Chartreux boy) live w/ husband. Daughter has 2 large female black and white broken-color rabbits, get along fine w/ the cats
Occupation: Disabled Registered Respiratory Therapist--unable to work on feet any more so trying to learn new skills (would rather work then collect disability)
Education: Gazillion assorted college hours (kept changing majors/schools) actual degree is a Associates in Respiratory Therapy
Hobbies: Sewing, knitting, crochet, reading (non-fiction usually), recipe collecting and inventing.
Member of Spark: 5 yrs
Cooking for how many: usually one; occasionally make family dinners for 3 (daughter and her boyfriend)--they eat completely differently than I do but I know what they like so planning is simple
Help/support from team: recipe inspiration and encouragement
Anything else: learning how to deal w/ chronic pain / illnesses and needing to lose about 95 more lbs while job-hunting for something in a new field--after 35 yrs of health care I don't know how to do anything else, have to work off feet and am no good at office work. Marital estrangement on back burner for now.

2. Yes I grew up here and never left.

4. We have 5 Children between us .. Son in his 30's, Two Daughters almost 30 !, Son 23 and Daughter 18yr. We have two grandsons 4yr and 1yr.

5. Yes animals ... one yellow lab (Angel) and one cat (Misty)

6. Love to read, past few years I mostly listen to books and read a little on the kindle. Hooked to my computer games ... We go to the gym to swim, not a hobby but gets us off the couch. Work Full time.

7. Been a member of Sparkpeople since 2009. So 4 years. Wow time flies !

8. Cooking for 2 (sometimes the youngest shows up .. then it's 3)

9. So bored of figuring out what to fix for dinner or eat in general ... always looking for ideas

3. Married, single, etc. - married 23 years

4. Kids ? (have any) - I have a daughter 27 and a son 21 who both live in Manchester, NH. My son is still in school and works full time also. We lost another daughter to a battle with cancer last Thanksgiving, she was 21 when she passed away after a long illness.

5. Animals ? (have any) - Two year old Frenglish bulldog named Lord Stanley, and two male cats Salem and King, although I call him "crazy eye"

6. Hobbies, interests - I work full time +++, I like to read, travel, cook, photography. Love to eat out. Now that it's just the two of us we are getting ready to downsize and get a smaller place.

9. How can the team help in supporting and aiding you in meeting your goals? - I am looking to still eat well and deliciously but spend less time in the kitchen. I want to do other things with my time.

10. Anything else you want us to know about you? - My Dr handed me some bad news 2 weeks ago, I have metabolic syndrome, pre-diabetes, and need to get serious about a balanced diet OR ELSE! It's a super big wake up call, that while I was off taking care of other people I wasn't taking care of myself.
