It don't seem fair but that is what happens, when the food is to low the Body goes on a starvation (energy conservation) program it shouts down all the unnessary calorie burners like

heating and cooling - With a few extra caloties the body keeps us warm and cool, when you see a person on a diet who is cold all the time it is because their heating system is shut down

instant energy - if on a bad diet your get up and go is gone

even the immune system so on a bad diet it is easer to get and harder to get well

On protein, do you know how many calories of bread you need to eat to get the protein in 100 grams of chicken breast? if you are not eating the meat your body will demand the other and wow

Thanks everybody for the wonderful welcome! :)

I eat pretty much anything - and I am open to trying new things! I actually just tried a mango last week and I also tried almond milk. The mango was yummy and the almond milk wasn't bad (didn't care for the smell of it, but the taste was fine)! :) I live a sheltered life, I know! I am hoping to try tangerines and nectarines, and perhaps eggplant and artichokes! I want to try more different things to get more variety! However, I am not a huge fan of mushrooms (they are alright, but not my favorite) and I don't much care for beets. Other than that, I'm pretty easy to please! :)

Also, I tend to eat chicken....a LOT. It's probably one of the main "meats" I eat. I have noticed, on my nutrition tracker, that I am having a hard time getting my daily recommended protein in. I have always been a "carb" girl, I love potatoes, pasta, bread, etc. I am doing pretty well staying in my range on everything (calories, carbs and fats) except for protein.

well you've come to the right place. you've joined a great team with people who are here to help you in your health journey.

everyones chemistry is different. people who can eat anything and not gain weight have no concept of what we go through. so try this,

first throw out all the junk food in your house.

then Use the food tracker. input everything that goes into your mouth. stay within your calorie range. watch portion size, keep healthy snacks on hand. apple, celery, etc. exercise. you must burn more calories than you eat.

exercising is key. I hope this helps

Hi Lindsey...Welcome...

I cook for two here ..me and hubby but a lot of what I cook is easily adjusted to one person as yourself. AND~~ lol~~ there is NOT a heck of a lot of cooking and pots and pans to a lot of what I do because I believe in simple and easy!
Even though we are both retired, hubby and I still would rather be out doing other things than stuck in the kitchen for hours.

Skinless, boneless. chicken breasts can be your best friend here. Especially when we are headed off with our trailer...I cook ahead as many of these as I can and bag them and freeze them cooked. You can do so much with chicken so you are never at a loss for something to use if they are ready. In your case take a cooked frozen one out of the fridge before going to work and leave to thaw.
On the way home from work pick up one of those prepared caesar salads and a kraft no fat caesar drsg
At home...cut up and weigh out 100 grams of your chicken breast ...place salad on a plate...sprinkle the cut up chicken over the top...add croutons...and squeeze on the drsg... ..
( depending on how much drsg you like...you could have as much as 5 Tbsp of this to reach 100 calories!! )
I bulk this up more by adding cut up cucumber, carrot matchstixs, and celery, as well as extra lettuce sometimes.
Also I sometimes eliminate the croutons and instead weigh out 20 grams of Dorito's Hot Chili Heat tortilla chips which will equal 100 calories the same as your croutons would have...but the chips give the salad a bit of zing!

SO~~ Salad and salad bits = 100 calories
Chicken = 100 calories
Croutons or Chips = 100 calories
Caesar Drsg = 100 calories
--------------------------------------------------
Totally Awesome Meal = 400 calories!

Try it! You'll like it!

Hi Lindsey

The garbage can is your friend, It is better to put extra food in it then carry it on your butt :)

There are lots of easy, tasty, healthy, meals you can cook - What do you like to eat?

Hello everybody! My name is Lindsey, I am 26 years old, and I live in North Dakota. I am a legal assistant working at a law firm, own a townhouse, and live with my 2 cats (Kelly and Milo). I have always been overweight. At this point in my life, I am ready to change. I need to change - I want to change. I am hoping that this group will help me. I don't bake or cook very often - so I'm hoping I will be able to come up with easy to make, yet still healthy, foods without having leftovers that will last for weeks!
