Hi. I'm back on SparkPeople after a 5 year break. I was a busy stay-at-home mom back in 2012 when I took advantage SparkPeople's help to lose weight and get up the gumption to throw myself back into the working world. Now I'm a busy working mom with two children launched and one to go. I have also packed on a few more pounds. And just this month I'm also dealing with a knee injury. Time to lighten my load - literally and figuratively. I remembered my success using SparkPeople from 5 years back, so I decided to give it another go.

The workplace can be both good for and hard on my sense of self worth. Redefining myself is never easy. I'm still trying to treat myself with the loving care that comes naturally for me to give to others.

I see so many threads are older, and some of my old teams are dormant. I just wonder how many people are still using this. Maybe I'm posting into a black hole.

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.

Hello! I'm kind of new around here and my English is far from perfect, but I'm looking forward to being an active part of the SparkPeople family!

It was always hard for me to eat healthy because I love food (and most of the food I like is pure junk...student life), but I finally decided to take better care of myself and my body! Now I'm trying to stick to my exercise routine and my diet, but I'm scared that counting calories will take over my life. Even though I don't have a lot of weight to lose, I find myself dreading that if I eat pizza or my family, or a peace of cake when I'm out with friends, all the progress I've made 'till now will just disappear. i want to be healthy and eat healthy, but I don't want to be a slave to calories! Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I struggle with this as well. I have found that taking care of myself helps me to focus better at work and get more done. I have broken my exercise up into 10 minute chunks. I walk for ten minutes 3 times at work. Still eat linch at my desk. Some things may never change. I have been absolutely shocked at how these 10 minute exercise walks have helped. I do my strength training at night and try to get 30 minutes straight of some kind of aerobic exercise 5 days a week but if I miss I don't feel terrible because of the broken 30 minutes during the day. I do the 30 minutes usually walking in place or jumping on my mini trampoline at night while watching tv and unwinding. I hope this helps!

Good morning! Looking forward to the social part of SparkPeople, and looking for inspiration to get moving and make healthy food choices.

My biggest struggle is allowing work to monopolize my time and energy. For example, I know that morning is the best time to work out....but it's also the best time to get work done before anyone else gets to the office. Anyone else have that problem? Any advice for tearing yourself away from your desk?

Hi I am a returning member of Spark. I never really was a get involved type but would like to be and feel that I truly need to be more active here but to be honest I am not sure how to become the kind of active that will truly help me. Any way hello to all, I am happy to be here!

Hi everyone,

I used to be on sparkpeople as waddlingalong.

I haven't been around for a while. Life turned upside down and inside out. I find myself where I swore I would never be.

Forward from here!

A poem I found today :

"Life will break you.
Nobody can protect you from that,
and living alone won't either,
for solitude will also break you with its yearning.

You have to love.

You have to feel.

It is the reason you are here on earth.

You are here to risk your heart.
You are here to be swallowed up.

And when it happens that you are broken,
or betrayed,
or left, or hurt,
or death brushes near,
let yourself sit by an apple tree and listen to the apples falling all around you in heaps,
wasting their sweetness.
Tell yourself you tasted as many as you could.

Hi, everyone

I used to be on SparkPeople as MakeAPermChange. I left SP about a year ago - I was just so frustrated with myself, my health, etc. I'm seeing a nutritionist now and it is helping. I'm just feeling so alone in all this and missed being on SP. I think I'm here for good this time!

In any case, good luck to everyone here and nice to (re)meet you! I can't wait to start contributing to the daily gratitude thread again.

Hello everyone. I'm trying this again after a few years. I quit last time because I was just overwhelmed by so much going on in this site. I never posted before so this time I hope to be more active. I still find this confusing with so many different things to read and look at. Any tips on how to navigate around here. Thanks

Hello all! I discovered Sparkpeople a few days ago and am impressed! So far I love the tracking, the food database is big enough that I haven't had to spend hours inputting my own food data, so I'm more inclined to actually use it. Every aspect of healthy living seems to be addressed, and the posts I've read so far have been mostly positive and helpful. I'm not a prolific poster, but reading others struggles and successes is very motivating, so I'll do what I can to contribute.

For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

I have used this site in the past with great results, but with having two young children I kinda fell off the wagon. I am hoping to get myself back on track and live a more healthier lifestyle. My main focus it to incorporate more fitness in my day to day life.

Hi Candy, I just signed up a few hours ago. I am in California. I tried using this about 2 years ago but never got around to it. I am basically looking to get back on track. I have type 2 diabetes and just had my leg amputated last year in June. I was diagnose with gestional diabetes in 1999. Three months after my son was born I lost my sight. I am legally blind in my left eye. I didn't understand all the complcations related to diabetes. In 2011, I had my second toe in my left foot amputated as well as kyrotic nerve (99% blockage) and a femural bypass. I still didnt follow any kind of meal plan or exercise plan either. In June 2013, they amputated below the knee. After the surgery, I was able to monitor and keep by glucose levels as specified by my doctor. I guess I will stop and continue tomorrow, time to get some rest.

Hey all, I am pretty new here. Signed up a few months ago but never really utilized the site but going to try it now. Have heard a lot of good things about it. Hopefully it works. :) My name is Candace and I am from Oklahoma, so far I have lost 46 pounds since the end of Dec. 2013. My next mini goal is 24 pounds by June 26. I only weigh every other month so that's my next date. Fingers crossed.

Hello : )
I wouldn't say I'm afraid to post, but there is so much information I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Like what is a huddle? How do I blog? etc.

I just discovered Spark People this weekend. My Spark Page has a date of November 2012 but that is incorrect, and I don't know how to change it without starting all over (and I just added a bunch of teams !). I must have signed up for an email once or something. I had heard of Spark People but never really paid much attention. WOW ! I can't believe what I have been missing. What a great resource ! I am excited ! : )

I'm 48, single, no kids, two dogs. My goal is to improve my quality of life through weight loss, gentle stretching, and aerobic exercise. I just recently had some health problems (thankfully temporary) and so right now my goal is to "get healthy" and weight loss will come as a result of that.

Food tracking is the bane of my existence. I usually lie anyway... ; ) I'm starting with baby steps... Right now I'm tracking my water and any exercise I do.

Looking forward to "meeting you".
Thank you and have a great day !
~ Mary

I am terrible at this. Posting gives me instant brain freeze. Don't know what to say to people I don't know.
I'm new to the team, in my 20's, and deal with depression

Hey,

I'm Katie. I've been on SparkPeople for a few years, but I never fully utilized it.

My normal support system isn't around (everyone is now in different states or countries) so staying on track is hard. My current goal is to get back in track and be healthy.

Hi Tameka. Welcome to the group and to Sparkpeople!

It is often the case that healthcare workers neglect their own health in the same way that a mechanic's car is usually held together with duct tape and prayers, plumbers' own homes are rarely without a dripping tap etc. After all, who wants to think work in their home time, eh?

Well done on taking the step to join the Sparkpeople network though. It's a good idea to set up a sparkpage, just so people have a place they can say hello. I share quite a lot on mine, but you really don't have to - even the colours you choose to display can show something about your personality and it gives people a place to cheer you along.

Now that you have been brave and posted to our little group, maybe take a look through the other teams - there are hundreds so I am sure you will find something to suit and no-one knows if you leave a team so you could just join, take a look around and if you find it doesn't suit just slip away quietly.

The resource centre has some fabulous articles for those who find themselves seated at a computer for vast amounts of the day - tips on snacking, desk-side fitness routines etc so when you are looking to get your points for reading articles bear those in mind.

There is a lot to see and do here, so if you find it overwhelming at any time don't be afraid to ask.

Hello, my name is Dorothy, I am 28 and I'm here to lose 70 lbs! I joined SparkPeople last year about this time, and I stuck with it for about 2 weeks.. This year I plan on actually taking advantage of the support systems they offer on this website. I wrote a blog more about it if you're interested. Anyway, this is me putting my foot in the door, I commend everyone that is here, we all want the same thing and it's great to not feel alone in this battle for freedom.

Hello, my name is Tameka and I just joined Spark People after reading about the website in this week's issue of People magazine. I am a married mother of five children and I would like to lead by example for a healthier lifestyle. I would not want to be a burden to my family due to being overweight. I love surfing the web and work on a computer a lot during the day. Although, my profession is healthcare, I often don't take time to ensure I am living a healthy and active lifestyle. Looking forward to meeting new people who have been through or are going through this same weight loss process.

Hello to you all! Welcome to Sparkpeople.

I will introduce myself to you, too:

My name is Tonia. I joined Spark in 2005 at a weight of 190lbs. I had to focus more on my food issues than the aim of losing weight, which I did and resolved the conditioning I had carried all my adult life in order to lose 30lbs. I took a bit of a break for no real reason other than that life got a bit hard and am now back to get the last 20lbs gone for good.

If any of you need help with anything, be sure to call out. You can sparkmail me if you want to do it in private, or stop by my page and leave a comment there - just bear in mind that comments on my Sparkpage are open for all members to see.

Happy Sparking to you all!

Hi! I'm a 20 year old who recently moved house. I was stressed, and ate a loooot of chocolate, and put on 8 kilos. I wanna stop that now...I can't fit into some of my clothes. I like my clothes, and I like feeling healthy too, so here I am. c: I'm not one to post much so that is my story.

And now I've completed what sparkpeople told me to do by posting. :P huzzah!

My name is Andrea and I'm 19 years old, I weigh 300 pounds. I have been large all my life, and I got the LapBand when I was 16 years old. I lost about 80 pounds with it and got down to 220. However, I found out I had renal cancer 2 days before my 18th birthday and my doctors recommended I deflate my band (I was losing anywhere between 3-5 pounds a week, and I was getting very week.), they said at that point I needed all the nutrients I could get. I got past the cancer (lost a kidney but oh well) and went in to get my band back up to where it was, and I realized I didn't want to go down that path. I didn't want to be restricted to a half cup serving of soft foods every meal. I didn't want to only be able to drink water (if that) for three days just because my allergies had clogged my band. I wanted to be able to live and travel and eat what I wanted. Unfortunately, here I am. Back at my start weight. I still don't want to go back to the LapBand, I want to do this on my own.
Now to the happy part :) I am married to my best friend and the sweetest man in the world. I work as a pediatric home health attendant and plan on going to college to get my RN and eventually become a nurse practitioner. I want to specialize in pediatric hematology/oncology. I want to help children the way the doctors helped me. I love roller derby, and would play myself if I had two kidneys I could risk getting damaged instead of one. I have two little dogs. I'm snarky and sarcastic and blunt. I want nothing more than to be a mother one day, however I realize that if I don't get my weight in check I may not get that chance.

My name is Brenda, I am 45, and live in Ormond Beach, FL. I just joined sparkpeople today and I am on a mission to get healthy again. I did Weight Watchers and lost a lot of weight, but lately have gained some back. Unfortunately, I work 2 jobs, and there's no meetings in my area that work with my crazy schedule, so I thought I would give this a try. I have fibromyalgia and the little bit of weight I have gained back has brought it out of remission. I've got to get this weight off, get active again, and get the fibro back into remission.

I would love to find some weight loss buddies in my area. :)

Hi my name is Mary and I live in the US. I am 50 years old and am on a journey to lose 50lbs this year! I have signed up for a huge race in Disney World this January and would like to be down 35lbs by then. I love to run, but I also love to drink beer and eat good food. My daughter and I both signed up on sparkpeople to be accountable for the calories we take in every day. Hopefully this will help us in our weight loss journey.

HI! Lindsey I joined Weight Watchers and I also followed the point plus program which was great but also went to there meetings that they had...that was very helpful too because before each meeting they gave you a reciepe to try out...and believe me they were really good. Also you got lots of support there too! Of course, I lost my job and I gained it all back. So, now I want to try something a little different.
