Hey all, I am pretty new here. Signed up a few months ago but never really utilized the site but going to try it now. Have heard a lot of good things about it. Hopefully it works. :) My name is Candace and I am from Oklahoma, so far I have lost 46 pounds since the end of Dec. 2013. My next mini goal is 24 pounds by June 26. I only weigh every other month so that's my next date. Fingers crossed.

I'm always trying to start with very small steps. It seems when I get overwhelmed, I give up. Good luck !

Hello : )
I wouldn't say I'm afraid to post, but there is so much information I'm feeling a little overwhelmed. Like what is a huddle? How do I blog? etc.

I just discovered Spark People this weekend. My Spark Page has a date of November 2012 but that is incorrect, and I don't know how to change it without starting all over (and I just added a bunch of teams !). I must have signed up for an email once or something. I had heard of Spark People but never really paid much attention. WOW ! I can't believe what I have been missing. What a great resource ! I am excited ! : )

I'm 48, single, no kids, two dogs. My goal is to improve my quality of life through weight loss, gentle stretching, and aerobic exercise. I just recently had some health problems (thankfully temporary) and so right now my goal is to "get healthy" and weight loss will come as a result of that.

Food tracking is the bane of my existence. I usually lie anyway... ; ) I'm starting with baby steps... Right now I'm tracking my water and any exercise I do.

Looking forward to "meeting you".
Thank you and have a great day !
~ Mary

Hello Everyone. Welcome to the newbies emoticon
I am terrible at this. Posting gives me instant brain freeze. Don't know what to say to people I don't know.
I'm new to the team, in my 20's, and deal with depression

Anyone who adds me as a friend, I'd be grateful.

Hey,

I'm Katie. I've been on SparkPeople for a few years, but I never fully utilized it.

My normal support system isn't around (everyone is now in different states or countries) so staying on track is hard. My current goal is to get back in track and be healthy.

Hi Tameka. Welcome to the group and to Sparkpeople!

It is often the case that healthcare workers neglect their own health in the same way that a mechanic's car is usually held together with duct tape and prayers, plumbers' own homes are rarely without a dripping tap etc. After all, who wants to think work in their home time, eh?

Well done on taking the step to join the Sparkpeople network though. It's a good idea to set up a sparkpage, just so people have a place they can say hello. I share quite a lot on mine, but you really don't have to - even the colours you choose to display can show something about your personality and it gives people a place to cheer you along.

Now that you have been brave and posted to our little group, maybe take a look through the other teams - there are hundreds so I am sure you will find something to suit and no-one knows if you leave a team so you could just join, take a look around and if you find it doesn't suit just slip away quietly.

The resource centre has some fabulous articles for those who find themselves seated at a computer for vast amounts of the day - tips on snacking, desk-side fitness routines etc so when you are looking to get your points for reading articles bear those in mind.

There is a lot to see and do here, so if you find it overwhelming at any time don't be afraid to ask.

Hello, my name is Dorothy, I am 28 and I'm here to lose 70 lbs! I joined SparkPeople last year about this time, and I stuck with it for about 2 weeks.. This year I plan on actually taking advantage of the support systems they offer on this website. I wrote a blog more about it if you're interested. Anyway, this is me putting my foot in the door, I commend everyone that is here, we all want the same thing and it's great to not feel alone in this battle for freedom.

Hello, my name is Tameka and I just joined Spark People after reading about the website in this week's issue of People magazine. I am a married mother of five children and I would like to lead by example for a healthier lifestyle. I would not want to be a burden to my family due to being overweight. I love surfing the web and work on a computer a lot during the day. Although, my profession is healthcare, I often don't take time to ensure I am living a healthy and active lifestyle. Looking forward to meeting new people who have been through or are going through this same weight loss process.

Hello to you all! Welcome to Sparkpeople.

I will introduce myself to you, too:

My name is Tonia. I joined Spark in 2005 at a weight of 190lbs. I had to focus more on my food issues than the aim of losing weight, which I did and resolved the conditioning I had carried all my adult life in order to lose 30lbs. I took a bit of a break for no real reason other than that life got a bit hard and am now back to get the last 20lbs gone for good.

If any of you need help with anything, be sure to call out. You can sparkmail me if you want to do it in private, or stop by my page and leave a comment there - just bear in mind that comments on my Sparkpage are open for all members to see.

Happy Sparking to you all!

Hi! I'm a 20 year old who recently moved house. I was stressed, and ate a loooot of chocolate, and put on 8 kilos. I wanna stop that now...I can't fit into some of my clothes. I like my clothes, and I like feeling healthy too, so here I am. c: I'm not one to post much so that is my story.

And now I've completed what sparkpeople told me to do by posting. :P huzzah!

My name is Andrea and I'm 19 years old, I weigh 300 pounds. I have been large all my life, and I got the LapBand when I was 16 years old. I lost about 80 pounds with it and got down to 220. However, I found out I had renal cancer 2 days before my 18th birthday and my doctors recommended I deflate my band (I was losing anywhere between 3-5 pounds a week, and I was getting very week.), they said at that point I needed all the nutrients I could get. I got past the cancer (lost a kidney but oh well) and went in to get my band back up to where it was, and I realized I didn't want to go down that path. I didn't want to be restricted to a half cup serving of soft foods every meal. I didn't want to only be able to drink water (if that) for three days just because my allergies had clogged my band. I wanted to be able to live and travel and eat what I wanted. Unfortunately, here I am. Back at my start weight. I still don't want to go back to the LapBand, I want to do this on my own.
Now to the happy part :) I am married to my best friend and the sweetest man in the world. I work as a pediatric home health attendant and plan on going to college to get my RN and eventually become a nurse practitioner. I want to specialize in pediatric hematology/oncology. I want to help children the way the doctors helped me. I love roller derby, and would play myself if I had two kidneys I could risk getting damaged instead of one. I have two little dogs. I'm snarky and sarcastic and blunt. I want nothing more than to be a mother one day, however I realize that if I don't get my weight in check I may not get that chance.

My name is Brenda, I am 45, and live in Ormond Beach, FL. I just joined sparkpeople today and I am on a mission to get healthy again. I did Weight Watchers and lost a lot of weight, but lately have gained some back. Unfortunately, I work 2 jobs, and there's no meetings in my area that work with my crazy schedule, so I thought I would give this a try. I have fibromyalgia and the little bit of weight I have gained back has brought it out of remission. I've got to get this weight off, get active again, and get the fibro back into remission.

I would love to find some weight loss buddies in my area. :)

Hi my name is Mary and I live in the US. I am 50 years old and am on a journey to lose 50lbs this year! I have signed up for a huge race in Disney World this January and would like to be down 35lbs by then. I love to run, but I also love to drink beer and eat good food. My daughter and I both signed up on sparkpeople to be accountable for the calories we take in every day. Hopefully this will help us in our weight loss journey.

HI! Lindsey I joined Weight Watchers and I also followed the point plus program which was great but also went to there meetings that they had...that was very helpful too because before each meeting they gave you a reciepe to try out...and believe me they were really good. Also you got lots of support there too! Of course, I lost my job and I gained it all back. So, now I want to try something a little different.

so here is a bit about me I am 29, married and i have two boys. I love to read but nothing too serious.
i like movies and TV Series, cooking but i mostly end up baking cakes and biscuits.

Hello all :)

I'm Keeleigh from the UK.

Like others here, obviously I'm really nervous about posting on forums. I have depression, social anxiety and panic disorder. I can over worry about saying the wrong thing, being judged, even misspelling (especially with all the grammar Nazis out there!) etc and because of this I usually remain a lurker on forums, however this time I'm going to try and 'say yes' more and get involved as you all seem a great bunch and really supportive.

Joined Sparkpeople yesterday and thus far really enjoying all the tools and resources. I have about 150lbs to lose =O, really ashamed with myself...BUT, there is no point sitting in pity and this time I'm really determined to lose it and not use the excuses of 'thyroid' and 'pcos'. Yet, I usually have a really good month and then give in...Hopefully you can all keep me accountable.

Hope didn't come across too stupid?

Hope you're all well and doing great on your journey :)

Hello.. I'm Jade, I'm 24 and living in London.
I was really glad to find this group as I'm not very good at getting involved in conversations or anything social.. I think I'm signed up to 5 fitness/diet tracking sites now and this is the first time I've commented on a forum haha..

My councilor says I have low self esteem, social anxiety and mild depression, but I'm trying to beat it! I joined a sports team to tackle a lot of my issues and get fit at the same time, and I'm hooked - it's definitely made a big difference to my life. I like feeling part of a team, and I want to become a more useful team player.

My main (eventual) goal is to make it onto one of my leagues travel teams, and on the way I hope I can build my confidence, emotional strength and self belief as I improve my physical strength.

Hopefully I will stick to it this time!

Hello all.. Im Lindsey (my middle name, must conceal lol always nervous) I always have hardest time writing in forums though I'm always looking at them, gets pretty lonely though unfortunately lols I really could use the support, I don't have any real life. I've been up & down with my weight since my late teens.. before that I was always average. I have severe anxiety, been house bound many times. My highest weight is 260.. lose & gained some since, have around 80 still I want to lose. I've been using weight watchers pointsplus program since may 27th, and I'm loving it compared to calorie counting, I just get too obsessive & focus too much on slip ups, whereas I can be pretty flexible with this. But I don't use it for support, hence why I'm here & love this site as well :)

Hi guys I'm Crystal I've been using sparkpeople since 2011 but really haven't used it correctly. I recently lost 30 pounds (in the least healthiest way possible unfortunately) but I'd like to lose another 10. I'm hoping to do that the right way. My biggest problem is motivation because I'm so lazy. Well other than that, I am a college student and I work so I am tired a lot and eating an entire bag of chips sounds much better than working out haha. I am also a musician and need to get ready for marching season coming up so I can finally take my shirt off in practice! :D

Hi. My name is Kate. I am an 21 year old college student ready to lose weight. I currently weigh 164 pounds and have some serious social anxiety and a mean sweet tooth. That was all right until last year, when I stopped running and had an extremely crazy year in school. I gained two sizes and lots of weight.

Hi there! My name is Ivana. It's hard for me to post because I have social anxiety. I joined SparkPeople to get a handle on my overeating and for exercise encouragement because I tend to stop and start programs. I'm currently 5'9" and 172lbs. While that's not seriously overweight and I don't hate my body, it's a little too pleasantly plump for me so to speak. I hope I have the disciple to stick with my program and any help would be welcome.

Hello. I'm Sheree, and decided to join to gain help and feedback on how to lose weight. I have no idea how to do this, but also noticed they have fantastic recipes on here. I was raised by a mother who believed everything came from a box or can. I love my mother very much, and in every way was a great Mom, but she couldn't cook to save her life, so I was raised on high calorie, low nutrition food, and boy, do I love my junk food. Now I'm 56 years old, have thyroid problems and high cholesteral, I realized I have to learn a whole new way of eating and taking care of myself.
I'm an author, so that also means my lifestyle is sedentary. I work about 8 hours a day just sitting. I did get a treadmill just recently, so that's something.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, and it's so comforting to find others who are also struggling and we can get through this with support and cheerleading each other to success. Nice to meet you all.

Hi! I'm Kate and I'm new here. I live in Canada and I'm 19 years old.

My reasons for joining are to lose a bit of weight (about 8kg/17 pounds) but mostly to get back to feeling healthy and like a normal 19 year old. As a secondary school student, I beat a pretty serious illness and haven't felt the same ever since. Hopefully I'm able to change that, and hopefully I'm able to fit in here despite my shyness :)

Hello everyone, I'm a spark newbie. I have a 9 month old, who finally seems to start sleeping much better through the night and even taking longer naps in the day. So now I can get my rest as well, start to lose my baby weight and start to take care of myself better. I have about 35 lbs to lose, but as long as I feel healthy and feel better about myself is my priority.

I've just started the spark diet with the fast track goals. Which really seems to be helping my confidence. I've tried a few diets since I had my baby, lost weigh quickly but gained it back. Many times I do great with a diet for a week, then I find it too hard to stick with, cheat and then totally give up. I hope by doing it gradually this time and accept that I will have set backs but be willing to get up again that I will finally get my weight under control and live healthy this time.

I am looking forward to hearing from some great people here and I would love to hear from anyone that would like to support each other.

First time I've ever posted. emoticon I've been checking out sp for a long time but. It took an article in a magazine to get me really motivated. The past few days I've been reading posts, trying to figure out the site and I decided that I'm ready. As the saying goes when the student is ready the teacher will come. So if I'm posting wrong let me know

I am very glad to have found this life tool!!

Hi! I am a 34 yr old oilfield wife & mother of 2. I joined sparkpeople today hoping to get motivated to loose over 75 lbs. Not sure about posting, but giving it a try! I have been working on weight loss since the 1st of the yr, but have only lost 3 lbs. Just thinking that I may need more support than just logging what I eat everyday. Any help or encouragement from anyone else just starting out would be greatly appreciated!

Hi!
reading your post reminds me of how I am!
Have been a member for many years but have backed off from posting till I saw this!
I find the site useful. I am very critical of myself if I'm having a bad day!
I am not weighing myself at present, I can feel some improvement in my clothes etc.
If I regularly weigh my self and I do not loose any weight, even though I have tried very hard, I get very disheartened and tend to give in all together!!
My aim is to see how much I weigh in February when I take a trip to the Doctors!
Any help and encouragement will be gratefully received!

Yes, we can do it! Thing is, we as women spend so much time taking care of others that we put ourselves last. But we need to be balanced and realize we can take care of ourselves as well as others. We just have to find that balance. Thanks for the encouragement!

Hi. My name is Allison. I am an 18 year old college student ready to lose weight(again). When I was 14 I joined the kids version of this site and lost 40 pounds. I loved the site and the people with it that I decided to come back to lose weight again.

I currently weigh 264 pounds. My starting weight was 286 and my first goal weight is 220. I have two friends at school that want to become my work out buddies so I have good connections. I also have a free state of the art gym to go to that is at my school. I am ready to get moving and losing weight again.

Hello to everyone! I wasn't sure about posting on here but I decided I need to focus and need encouragement. My weight has shot up in almost 2 years when I began seeing someone. I broke up with the man I thought I was going to share my life with yesterday. Out of the blue he just said it wasn't working and I am grieving, trying to deal and accept this sadness. But I also know I have to take this day by day and I need to lose this weight for my health.
But I hope as time goes by I can also be encouraging to someone, even a few kind words goes a long way. So if anyone can offer some words of wisdom to help me deal with all this...please do.

Hello :) I am Katie, I am 24, and I am brand new to SparkPeople. Tomorrow will make my first full week, weigh in day, and so far I am staying motivated but being so new I am worried about keeping that motivation going. I have 50 pounds to loose and I have no idea if I have lost anything yet, although my clothes already seem to fit a little better. I am looking to meet people who are on the same journey and can help with advice and motivation.

Hello All,
I'm Gina, and I'm on a mission. I have two beautiful little boys. My most recent is only 5 months old, and with each pregnancy I stayed 15 lbs heavier. My goal this year is to lose 30 lbs and to keep them off. I am having a hard time staying motivated so I joined spark people in hopes that it would make a difference. Wish you all the best of luck on your weight loss journey!!!

Hi everyone!! My name is Rachel 31 yrs old. I first joined spark people this time last year. I have lost 65 lbs and 7 inches off my waist since 2010. Recently I've gained 10 lbs and 2 inches back. I haven't been sticking to my plan and have stopped exercising almost all together since starting the night shift last year. Making some changes starting with being committed to this site and of course switching shifts lol. I feel as I am at a loss. I have no real support as much as my family/friends say "great job" they are the same ones helping to sabotage myself as far as going out to eat and literally make me order horrible food choices. I am short actually yelling at them to stop. I need this group for support and guidance. I feel i have forgotten everything i have previously learned.

Hello, my name is Amber I just joined and I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I heard about sparkpeople from an article on Yahoo, thought that the support of others with similar weight loss goals was what I was missing. One person who was reported on in the article said "...so if I wanted to dive into a bag of chips, I went online to SparkPeople and someone talked me out of it." I thought that could benefit me. I'm new to posting (I'm one of the last remaining people not on facebook), hope I'm doing it right :). I've had weight issues since I was 13, lost 100+ pounds in my 20's kept it off for 7yrs. Since then I've had a son, lost my father to cancer, and both grandmothers all in 2years. I found my old friend doritos and didn't look back until now. The first time I lost the weight I did it with my dad, I've tried it on my own but it really doesn't seem to be working as it did when I had someone to kick me in the butt when I was about to fall off the wagon. I am excited to make new friends and get started.

Hi,

My name is pat and i just joined this group. I don't know what i want here so i guess that's my journey. I have been a member of SP for a long time and i have periods of being involved then drop out. I think i'm just not sure i am ready to recommit. i do know i don't "want" to but i "need' to. Uhggg. All i can say is, i'll see.

I am doing some things: tracking my weight, walking (but not consistently yet) and fitbit. I don't want to put too much on myself cuz i might not follow thru (one of my "issues."

I'm 65 and retired. We just finished a remodel of our kitchen and i currently have lots of boxes to unpack!

Wanting to care about myself...in every way.

Hello! This is my third day on spark people ^.^ Weight loss has been a struggle for me my whole life, but I really want to make positive changes for myself. About a year and a half ago I went vegitarian and lost 13lbs (Woohoo!) But I have been stuck at 185 for a while now. I'm looking to sparkpeople not only for motivation but also information. So far seeing everything I eat everyday has really opened my eyes to where my calories are coming from. So heres to a new journey ^.^

Hi! I just joined yesterday- I can relate to everyone who has already said- starting here is overwhelming. And I too feel a bit timid about posting. but already I also feel encouraged by everyone else who has shared their stories and hardships and triumphs! So I'll just jump in and get started. I have had a whirlwhind few years here- lost my mother in 2007. Got married in 2010. Had my first baby in 2011. That's pretty much what defines me is that timeline. The ultimate-devestating loss- then climbing back to life. I always have struggled with weight- i'll never be a waif- and that is ok! But when my mom died- I really spiraled out of control. Now more then ever, because of my daughter, it is important for me to get healthy and choose a healthy life. To set a good example. To enjoy life and what it has to offer. I look forward to this journey on Spark!

I have to start over big time. I had been doing really well, and then I was sick for two months, and followed that with surgery on my foot. Today I think I can finally work out without the risk of reopening the wound but I have no muscle tone or energy left. I feel like a blob and frankly, I am terrified. I am not fat, I am obese. My knees are bad and I look horrible. I need support and help. I am going to do this!
