Hello!
My name is Karen and i am new to this team. I went GF about a year ago because of unexplainable pain and bloating attacks. I never got a diagnosis, but I quit gluten and the painful attacks have stopped . I am just so thankful for that. I am a single mother who has had a hard time of it. My boys are now grown up,but still with me. We are just trying to make ends meet for the most part. I hope to find support and maybe a new idea or two.
Thanks for being here!

One day at a time sweet Jesus!

Good morning from a snowy PacNW...I was advised to go gluten and sugar free a few weeks ago...My daughter has multiple food allergies so why didn't I take a good look at myself sooner, lol...But it's all good now...I love to cook and experiment with different foods and share ideas for better health...See y'all on the threads...Beany

Hello All: I am joining this group hoping to find some support and new ideas. I was diagnosed with Celiacs a couple years ago. As I looked for alternative foods I began gaining weight. I quickly learned to stay away from anything package as the calories are astronomical. So very frustrating. I have not gained more weight but I cannot seem to lose any. For me it seems so difficult to have food on the go. I work a full time job and a part time job. Anyway I hope to learn from others experiences. Thank You, Jody

Hi Maureen, Welcome to the group. A lot of people find that their pain decreases as they go gluten free. I hope it can help you.

Hello, I'm Maureen I learned about 6 months ago that I'm wheat and gluten sensitive with near allergies to turkey, chicken, peanuts, and yeast. I crave breads and crackers and of course overindulge in everything I really shouldn't eat. I have lupus, and Fibromyalgia along with arthritis and a host of other issues. I hope that by cleaning up my diet I'll be able to lose weight and feel better. Being in pain most days and felling bad most of the time is really getting to me.

Good morning everyone! I've had celiac for 16 years but am now pre-diabetic. Anyone else both? I'm VERY new to learning about prediabetes and what is okay to eat and what to avoid. Is there a way to have meals on tracker be gluten fee? Would love to make some friends who are in similar situation so we can learn from each other and encourage each other (gluten free and diabetes) Have a great day!!

Hello,
I just got done reading the book Wheat Belly and the light bulb went off! lol. My husband is allergic to whole grain wheat(not gluten) and a few others Plus eggs. He has always been able to eat white bread and we said it is so processed that nothing is left of the actually wheat lol. So much of his symptoms seem to be from the wheat he is eating. I did not realize how much wheat was in everything, even the soy sauce I use in my stir fry that I thought was healthy! I have a lot of issues that the doctors can't seem to explain and think that after reading this book that it might be wheat. Anyway, I thought it would be so helpful for dh and decided it would help me to. I also am prediabetic so the gluten free products are not going to be to much of a substitute, they are all full of sugar. I am trying to get my pantry and myself together for no wheat after this weekend. I am looking forward to some helpful hints as well as some recipes.

FACT: Heat makes objects expand... So there you have it, I'm not overweight, I'm just overheated!

Hi! I've been a member here for a few months, but haven't posted or gotten involved. I live in Japan. It's been a challenge to be gluten-free here since I can't read most of the food labels. Rice flour is easy to find here and much cheaper than the USA!!! The other gluten-free things, I either order or have my mom ship them to me. I'm learning. It's been difficult to have things baked, etc. and on hand so that I don't cheat. I miss being able to run out to the store and buy things ready made. I look forward to learning from you all here.

Oh, That explains a lot. I have a friend there also that can not get the medications she needs for her Fibromyalgia. It seems to be an area that is not good for those with health problems.

I'm in Belize, Central America. I am sure that maybe somewhere in the country - maybe where the affluent people shop - there is gluten-free products... but none where I am. My Mom does send some mixes and dry pasta to me in care packages....

Welcome to the team Alli!

You are right there is lots of stuff without Gluten! Often times I have found that buying the expensive specialty items still doesn't taste like the real thing anyway so it's just best for me to save my money.

Hi All!!

I am Alli and I have been gluten-free since 2008. My doctor says I have IBS which is aggravated by the gluten. All I know is I feel better when I don't eat it - so I don't. ..Well really I should say I try not to. emoticon
I am living overseas where gluten intolerance is not really heard of and specialty products are non-existent. I have been eating gluten, and suffering the consequences, because doing the right thing is inconvenient. So I joined this Team to recommit to myself and my health!! I need to remind myself that I don't need specialty items to be gluten free and I am worth the extra effort.

HI All! I just joined yesterday. I'm borderline of being celiac, but I honestly think it's more of a gluten sensitivity. I'm trying to take of the weight that I gained this year plus a little more.

I'm not sure what else all of you would like to know.

FABANDFITAT40, Welcome to the team. A lot of people here do not have Celiac but rather a wheat intolerance or gluten intolerance. And some people who just want to be wheat free. That is not a problem at all. I hope that you can stick to the diet and keep feeling better. It does make a big difference. Congratulation on your soon to be Grandma.

Hi I don't have celiac disease but believe that I do have a gluten sensitivity. Have suffered from IBS for a number of years, as well as joint pain etc not to mention fertility issues which I have just recently learned could have been a result of the sensitivity. I know that I look and feel a 100% better when I remove gluten from my diet. However I go off on occasion because of temptation/expense, what have you. So here I am looking for support from other people who have had these same issues. A little more about me. I am a single parent of 2 children soon to be a first time grandma thanks to my lovely daughter. Also Mom to 3 pugs who I adore.

Hello! I could have sworn I posted here already...

Anyway, I actually do not have to be gluten free and am not gluten free, though my life is slowing reducing the amount of gluten and wheat. I do have a wheat bran allergy, and my doc says it may become worse and I'll eventually need to go GF. So, I'm on here looking for tips.

Hi there! My name is Patty. I have had stomach problems all my life seeing doctors made me angry because they just told me I was imagining the symptoms and should take meds for depression and IBS! I had pin pricks every where, my blood felt like it was slow (seems weird I know), my mood was always miserable, I was in pain all the time my stomach hurt so much I spent much time lying down and my kids were suffering.

So as a Christian woman I decided to pray and God lead me to go to a Naturopath who suggested what others have said here Gluten free for 3 weeks. Well for the first while finding new recipes was quite difficult but after that first week I felt amazing. My tounge was swollen, my eyes puffy and I had horrible skin problems before and these were all gone! Sorry to tell so much but, I am excited to say that when I do stay Gluten free I feel great. Nice to see this group!

Hello! My name is Candace and I have had digestive issues as long as I could remember. I was tired of running down the hallway (I teach 4th grade) and down the stairs, etc. just to go to the bathroom. My skin would ache and actually hurt. Every doctor I went to told me just to do yoga and meditate. I would also get canker sores all over my toung (sp?). I have had 4 colonoscopies and one endoscopy. Nothing could be found except lots of inflammation. My GI doctor thought for sure I had Crones disease, but it came back negative. It came back negative for Celiac as well. I finally went to a holistic doctor and she told me that doctors just don't know enough about this disease. She suggested I do the elimination diet for 3 weeks. I did it and never felt better. I've been gluten free for 6 months. My skin doesn't hurt anymore and I don't have to run for the bathroom. But boy if I cheat on my diet, I'm hurting for weeks. It really has changed my life. Sorry for being long winded, but I'm glad I found this group!

Hello! My name is Courtney, and I started spark people because I really just need to be accountable to someone, even if it's just myself, about what I eat and how I exercise. And then I found a Diabetes Team page and got really excited, because if there's a Diabetes page I was sure there was a Celiac page. And there is! So, I joined this team too. I've been Celiac for 3 years, and have been going strong for about 1 year. Basically I love learning new tricks and tips to make food taste better, and then there's just that nice connected feeling with people who have Celiac/gluten intolerance that makes life so much better. So, here I am!

Welcome to the group. It is no problem that you have a long introduction. Before I went gluten free I had to stop eating spicy and rich foods, They are what seemed to cause my problems because I would have major issue when I ate them. After going gluten free I was able to add back in the spicy and rich foods that I loved.

But I still have to take the acid reducing pills. I would suggest you stay on the Prilosec until your stomach acid settles down.

I would also suggest that you avoid dairy at first also. Dairy is hard to digest and if you are having stomach issues it is best to avoid it until your body heals.

Hi I just joined this team b/c I am having digestive issues beyond that of heartburn. Pretty much my intro about me and trying a GF diet is what I posted in my blog today...

'Alrighty so I've decided to try a gluten free diet for one month! That seems like forever, but I will then know if wheat, etc are the root of my tummy woes. I bought a lot of gluten free foods today and will hopefully like them. Luckily I happen to already like two of the gluten free foods I bought today, but gluten free is pretty expensive. My Udi bread was $5.99 AND it's half the size of a regular loaf of bread!!

I think my main issue will be eating out. I do buy my lunch more often then I should, so I'm guessing that will have to be curtailed, since some of the cooking processes add gluten to an otherwise gluten free food.

I also figured out that spicy foods are no longer my friend and I really, really, really love spicy foods. emoticon I hope it's temporary and that when I get my stomach issues worked out I can then go back to at least a little spice,a pinch of Cayenne perhaps or half a jalapeno??'

I did see my internal medicine doc for my stomach issues and he said try Prilosec for 2 weeks. I tried it for 3 days until I went to my chiropractor, who tries to avoid pills unless absolutely necessary, and he said try aloe vera juice and liquid chlorophyll. I tried both, but only the aloe vera juice helped, so I drink it every morning. I still have to figure out what foods are causing me so much grief, but the aloe helps minimize the pain. Sorry for the long intro...oh that would be something to know about me...I talk a lot!! emoticon

HI
I am new to the team and also new to the GF lifestyle. I have not been diagnosed with anything to require me to change my diet. This is my own doing to change my eating style. With some of the reading I have done, it just makes sense to me to go this route.

Hi I'm Stacey and I'm very excited to be on the team and for starting our new gluten free lifestyle in our home. I actually began removing the gluten back in January. I have a couple blogs explaining it if you get a chance to read them. I was secretly removing it from my husbands diet and really saw a huge change in his health. He is finally aware that he is not eating gluten but I know in the beginning I was missing a lot of foods and he still had lots of days that he was in great pain. I'm learning more every day.

We live in the woods in Alaska in a little cabin with no running water but we love the peace here and we are working on building a log house which keeps us very busy.

Can't wait to get to know you all a little more

I have too many teams to keep up with so am going to bow back off this one - God bless each of you as you travel the GF lifestyle - My helath has improved since I made this decision on January 1, 2011 - Fibronyalgia symptoms have improved with this effort, weight loss and getting bad teeth removed all at the same time... but I am healthier and that is my goal!

Linda, Welcome.
I'm glad that you have been able to provide a save environment for your daughter. Allergies to wheat are becoming more and more common. So many people have Celiacs and doctors know a lot about that, fewer understand that wheat can cause severe allergic reactions. When I eat wheat my throat closes down even with trace amounts so I know how your daughter must feel.
I'm glad that changing your diet has helped you too.

Hi , I am Linda from north central Washington state and recognize a couple gals here from another team for celiac. I have worked at the gluten free lifestyle for 10 months since my daughter was diagnoses with celiac and severe allergic response to wheat in particular that closes down her breathing if it is in the air and horrendous rash if she touches it especially if in scratch. I chose to go gluten free to provide a safe environment for her and then began to listen to the repeated encouragments that it would also help my fibromyalgia. I definitely have less pain, and less swelling in whole body; have lost 12 # since last November and look forward to gentle continued loss. I am very linited in amount of exercise i can do and look forward to gradually also increasing it! My wedding ring is loose for the first time in years! I slipped it over my nuckle today!!! No delire to take it off, just amazed that I could move it up and down on my finger!! Decinite sign of weight loss for me!

Welcome Cindy - It seems funny for me to welcome you before I even enter my hello letter but your intro touched my heart - sounds so like my adult daughter who was Diagnosed 10 months ago celiac and has her breathing close off if she is expposed to wheat in the air - as in a bakery, or even home baking of wheat in the oven! God bless you as you begin your training to help others through naturapathy. Keep us posted on the good things and the bad things you learn and experience along the way.

Hi All!
My name is Cindy and I have been gluten free for about a year now. I met with a homeopathic practitioner who determined that I was having a sensitivity to gluten. So right away I stopped eating it. A short time later my doctor wanted me to be tested and I had to go back on gluten rich foods for a period of 2 weeks. In that time I had huge issues with my breathing and felt terrible all the time. When the testing was finished I removed gluten from my diet again before I even had the results.
I have several issues with gluten. I am a Celiac as well as having anaphylaxis when exposed to gluten in my diet. For most people that are Celiacs they struggle to keep weight on. Sadly I am the opposite. My body thinks that it is starving all the time and packs on the pounds. For so many years (0ver 30) I was told that I have asthma. I may have it but most of my symptoms were caused by the food I was eating.
Now I am going to school to become a Homeopathic Practitioner so that I can help others find peace with their bodies.
I look forward to getting to know everyone.
CIndy

I found gluten free to be easy. I felt so much better when I went gluten free that I don't know why I didn't try it earlier!
Welcome aboard and good luck no your diet!

Hi there! Just joining the group and getting started on the diet. Im 54, wife and mother, work fulltime in a bank, and have two grown daughters, live in Ohio. My mother was diagnosed in '95 with celiac sprue..... I've been totally gluten free since November, before that just played with it. (finally got really ilI) need to lose about 90 pounds, my goal is 50, and I just cant get enough grains in my day. Hope to have some great conversations with the team!

Yes, risk taking is inherently failure-prone. Otherwise, it would be called sure-thing-taking.

Welcome to the team Jennifer, Cindy, Doris and Evelyn. Sorry I was not here to greet you all. It sucks to be sick for a whole month.

Doris, If you are like me, the doctors will find that most of your other problems are associated with Celiac. It is surprising how many other diseases are associated with it.

Hi, my name is Evelyn. I've had IBS for years and have always thought about trying a GF diet. What finally made me give it a try is that I've had hives for almost six months now and prickling sensations all over. I looked up the symptoms and several sources recommended a GF diet. So I decided it was time to obey the writing on the wall. I'm also being careful to avoid other foods that I know I'm sensitive or allergic to, such as: sulfites, mold/yeast, milk, preservatives. In general, I'm emphasizing whole, natural, fresh, homemade foods.

-Evie

Hi! I'm Cindy. A Christian wife and mother who is looking to lose some weight I gained after having a hysterectomy. I am a Life Time Member of Weight Watchers who lost 45 pounds in eight months. The program worked great until recently. I don't know if it is because of hormones or the change to the Point Plus Plan, but something isn't working. I am not sure if I am gluten sensitive or not. I know that when I eat breads I feel SO bloated and miserable. Someone suggested to me that I am at least senstive to gluten. I am trying something new. Happy to here and look forward to getting this extra weight off and figuring out this gluten situation.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Jennifer and I'm from Michigan. I've been sparking for years, but have had real trouble taking the weight off despite doing everything (mostly) "right". I've also had a number of chronic disease issues. An enzyme nutritionist recently diagnosed me as having allergies to gluten, dairy and eggs, with a bunch of secondary allergies, but he'd like me to focus on those first and foremost. I'm trying to work a bit with the principles of the Weston Price Foundation, even though it's controversial, but it's more about eating whole foods and foods from scratch in terms of what I'm doing with it. I'm dealing with many changes and thought it would be fun to join a group with similar goals. I love to cook and am thinking of this as an adventure, rather than deprivation. It looks like you have a wonderful, lively team!

Welcome Emstar. Hey Mark....I so agree and have had that same feeling about catching everything in sight. My immune system is on it's 3+ year of healing and I am weaning off of prednisone. I was on 60mg at the beginning of this process and am now down to 5.5 mg and going down .5 mg every 2 weeks. Will be so thankful to be off of it or at least on a low stable dose soon. Isn't it amazing how long it takes for our immune systems to heal? Thanks for sharing that you have been through the same process it is encouraging to hear. Smiles Barb
