THANK YOU JenCorrine! I really appreciate all of that! I will check out my health department and see what they offer. It's been changing a lot lately and offering more services and now go by appointment only so there's no telling what I might be able to do there. If they don't - well I'll have to wait awhile to save up for it even if that means I have to eat a piece of bread for three months prior. I've been through a lot medically so to me that would just be par for the course.

I will definitely go make a copy of that list *right now* so that I can start making head or tails out of everything. I'm also going to make a list of restaurant foods I can safely order. We dont' eat out often but when we do I want to be able to make a good decision and get something that is good without taking forever to make the decision!!

yes the treatment is the same the biggest differences are: CD is genetic with a 1 in 22 chance for 1st degree relatives (Kids, siblings, parents) and 1 in 39 chance for 2nd degree (Grandchildren, Grandparents, cousins, aunts, uncles). You can be gene tested at any time but that's not a diagnosis. I know there's lots of families out there that won't think about testing themselves until there is a definite diagnosis. I don't know your family but even with my diagnosis it's like getting teeth pulled to get my family members tested.
As far as I'm aware there isn't a genetic link for gluten intolerance, or if there is that it has been found.

Also CD is an auto-immune disease and once you have one AI there is a higher chance of developing more. It's something that doesn't have to be watched with GI.

CD shears off the villi in the intestines causing malnutrition, osteoporosis, and raises the chance of all cancers, GI doesn't.

Lastly, with a proper diagnosis of CD you can write the difference in costs of food and shipping costs if order online for your taxes under medical costs. Or reimbursed via HSA if you have one.

I understand the plantar fascitis. Before GF I could only wear Crocs and even then I was in pain within steps. I was depleted in Magnesium causing leg/calf cramps, I couldn't tell where the calf pain ended and the plantar started.

What helped me when I started was this list www.cureceliacdisease.org/wp-content
/u
ploads/2011/09/Jump_Start_Your_GluteR>n-Free_Diet_5_20_2011-3.pdf
. They've changed the website so hopefully this goes to page 30 of the University of Chicago Celiac Center's eBook. I took this list and the safe list on the following pages. Then cut and pasted, took out all the spaces so that it all fit on 1 piece of paper. Printed it out, folded in 1/2 and put shipping tape as a cheap laminate. It fits nicely in my purse and is a great cheat sheet for when I'm confused on something. My own correction is bleu cheese has been deemed safe unless declares wheat as an ingredient.

oh no! not worchestershire sauce!! it and A1 are my favorite condiments! *sigh* I guess I'll have to get used to life without it. Good to know of the vinegars ... I was getting confused looking at the celiac's websites lists.

From what I understand, it doesn't matter whether you're celiac's or gluten-intolerant since it's basically the same treatment. But y'all would know more about that than I would. So please do enlighten me on why it would be beneficial to know which one it is. BUT either way we can't afford the test or even any follow up visits. I may look into my health department though if it's that important to know which one it is.

As of now, my plantar fasciitis is soooooo much better! I've actually gotten out of bed and started walking with minimal pain instead of having to stretch or stand for awhile before walking. That in itself is worth going gluten free!!!
Some of the bloating is gone but not all. Then again it's only been close to 4 days being gluten-free (at least I'm pretty sure I've been totally gluten free but then again there may have been a couple of small things that slipped in due to my ignorance).... and I'm really sick with a viral sinus infection which in and of itself can cause bloating when I have a lot of sinus drainage.
My joints are already feeling better as well. I had quite a bit of joint pain previously. So far no migraines. Today is the closest I've been to having a head ache and that is pressure from my full sinuses.

Alrighty, gotta run! Thank you everyone for the welcome and the input!!

you have to also look out for Worcestershire sauce too, it has wheat in it too,

If you tell God no because He won't explain the reason He wants you to do something, you are actually hindering His blessing. But when you say yes to Him, all of heaven opens to pour out His goodness and reward your obedience. What matters more than material blessings are the things He is teaching us in our spirit.

Distilled and wine vinegars are safe, it's the malt vinegar that you have to watch out for.

I understand time and money without insurance, or with crappy ins but strongly suggest being tested now before going completely GF. to be tested later you'll have to go back on gluten for a minimum of 3 weeks and most people can't last that long for accurate testing. Then you'll have the question of it being CD or GI and if you have kids will you test it on to them.

I just posted a blog about going gluten-free as it's suspected that I have either celiac's or a gluten intolerance. Since my insurance is so cruddy and the treatment is pretty much the same, I'm doing the elimination diet instead of the celiac's testing. Later, if I get better insurance and the GF way of life works for me, then I'll get the official testing to see which it is.

I actually started eating GF when I got home on Wednesday and yesterday was G-free. I didn't realize how little in the way of grains I ate daily, so it's looking like it may be a fairly smooth transition in that manner. Now just to find all the hidden sources of gluten ... I know soy sauce and to watch out for certain vinegar "flavorings" (and it seems like vinegar is in almost everything ... I had a hard time finding dressings I could use yesterday so I'll be making a few batches of "real" dressings that I *know* I can use). I'll be studying up on it throughout the weekend to make sure I'm eliminating all possible sources - including make-up and lotions! I just have a couple more things to check with that ... my shampoo and conditioner are fine and my Burt's Bees stuff is fine.

I don't get to be as active as I want to on the boards (and with logging) due to being in graduate school and homeschooling my youngest.... and being the chauffer to all the kids with their activities. So while I might not be posting (especially since most times I am reading from my phone and it's difficult to type quickly) I'll be reading and trying to keep up!
