Hi, I'm Melissa. I'm 35 and a mom of 5 kids (3natural, 2 step). I am new to this group. I have been looking for a unique group, I hope this is it!'
I recently started walking again after an injury. I have built up to about 3/4 of a mile at this point, but I am working on it everyday and it gets easier every time. I hope to be back to my 3 miles again soon!

I got ya beat on the age. I am 55. I met my husband when I was 17--he was 18. We were in college and married after we both completed our masters programs. It amazes me to thinnk of how long we have been a couple because it feels like I just met him and at the same time, it feels like we've been together forever. Wierd huh?

yes, i am northernish, i walk though snow, sleet and rain, i kind of have to i have a dog that needs to be walked everyday. but i also enjoy it as it is my preferred exercise.. when i am not walking the dog, i use debbie rocker's walkvest for the added umph..

for me 30 years will be the end of july...

I love spark today and I agree the information is great. You've lost more than just a few pounds! You're soing great. I like walking too. I'd like to do outdoors more but it has indeed been nippy. hi, wacky walkers. i am cindy, i live in indianapolis.
i have been doing spark people for a while and the information is great, i even lost a few pounds:-), i am really happy about that.. i walk just about every day, at the local greenway. soon i hope to be walking the local park as soon as i warms up, it has been a little nippy.. i am married almost 30 years to a great guy, who has been a great motivator..

Are you using the spark generated meal plans? If so, I think you jut check off the food as you eat it.
If you are entering your own you click add food and a pop up will appear. You can add your own foods there.
let me know if this is enough info.

I am just starting to lose weight and try to get fit for the summer. I have a 14 year old dauighter who would like me to be fit to be able to do things with her. I don't know how to track what I eat on the nutrition page.

Thanks for the info! Yes, I use to get fit tv, esp liked the tai chi & couple other programs. But our cable co put that channel with sports, so now you have to pay extra for it.

Leslie Sansone has a yoga program and some of it does not require that you get down on the floor. You might be able to also find a book of poses that you can do--I saw at a borders book store and a barnes and noble too, a set of yoga card poses with instructions that you could use and put in the ones that you want to do. Fit TV has a yoga program too, but I think a lot of those are on the ground poses-but you could skip them and do the standing stretches.

No access to water exercise. But thanks for the ideas, altho I only hurt where there is a joint or muscle, LOL!!!, yes if I can work some place that hurts less, that may help. Endorphins is the only thing left to hope on for some pain relief. Thanks, glad some1 is capable of thinking outside the box!

If you have a ymca nearby, try water exercises. The water will suooort you and it feels great. Some people swear by pilates and yoga. I don't know where you feel the worst. Try using body parts that don't hurt so much and move them as fast and strong as you can. Endorphins will be your best painkillers so try to activate them. Hope this helps. Good luck--gentle hugs.

I hope I never have a flareup like the 1 I just had for the last 2 - 3 wks! don't think I could handle another 1.

Soon as I completely get over this mess, I 've got to get back to movin. But I've also got to find ST that I can do, while in severe pain, b/c I know that's not the only flare up I'll have.

Hello,
I'm new to 'Wacky Walkers', I feel right at home because I walk to work each day and my surname is Walker.
I am 57 years young, I have been married for 33 years, I live in the UK (am I your first UK member?) I have been a member of SP since November 07 but have only just started to really use the Spark. I can't tell you how much joining SP has changed my life, I used to be very fit when I worked for myself, I have run several restaurants, I was always on my feet and running around but a change of fortunes meant that I had to change employment and I now sell food to the private sector. This means that I am now sat down all day, hence the weight gain. It doesn't help when reps come into the office offering free sample to try, today I was given a Cadburys Easter Egg, don't worry I will be giving it to my mum.
I now track my food intake and record my cardio minutes, I'm sure I should be doing more but I am still finding my way round the site.
I am looking forward to get to know you all.

Yes I have heard of Leslie Sandstone....a lot of people use her videos here on spark. No pool so I can't do that stuff but I would LOVE to be able to. I have a fibromyalgia stretching CD that I use and love it. Just need to step it up a lot more as I am not losing any for the past couple of months.

One other way if you have a pool available is to do water walking, jogging, or aerobics. Its great exercise and much easier on the joints. I started with water just because of the pain in my back and knees.

WATP is Walk Away the Pounds. It is a program developed and led by Leslie Sansone on her DVD's. Many of us here on this board supplement what we do with her programs. I use it as the base for mine, but I will pretty much do anything if it is fun. You can find out more about the program in general by going to Leslie's site, www.lesliesansone.com/
There are some short clips of many of the programs that she sells on the site. I would suggest that you try to borrow or rent them first just to be sure that you like doing them. I hate to buy exercise programs that advertise well, and then find out I hate them. I first borrowed mine from my library. We have an interlibrary loan system and if my library doesn't have what I want, they can often get it for me from another library. I think the ones Leslie did after 2000 are easier to do than the ones before that--so I prefer to do the more recent ones. They are not easier in terms of the quality of the workout, but rather the pacing and movements are a bit easier for me to follow than the earlier ones. The workouts are great no matter what. Some people rent the DVD's, but I've never done that so I don't know who rents them or how to get them that way. I hope this helps.
I am in Massachusetts so often, indoor "walking" exercise programs are about all I can do because it is just too cold to go outside. I have asthma and cold weather and breezes in my face will set me off, not to mention the fact that frostbite and hypothermia are not on my list of things to get. I have enough on my plate without adding to it!

Thanks Gemstone-what are the WATP DVD's and where can I find them??? They sound like something I would like to do. I am going to get on the treadmill tomorrow and do my best to start walking every day. It is sooo hard to motivate myself right now but I know I feel better when I do. I have chronic tendonitis and heel spur and have had foot surgery all in my left foot so I have trouble walking if I do too much at once, but I really want to be a walker. It is warm enough here in Georgia to get outdoors too. I would love a good video though. Hugs, Sarah

99 pounds is amazing. I have fibromyalgia and arthritis. I use my treadmill occassionally, but mostly I use WATP dvd's. To me, they are fun so it feels like I am playing when I do them. I think that is the key, find something that is fun, call it play and let your inner child have free reign! Good luck and welcome to the group.

Hi! I'm Sarah and just joined. I have lost 99 pounds but have not gotten into a routine of exercise yet. I have fibromyalgia and RA and need to get walking! I have a treadmill and everything so I have NO excuse other than I don't want to do it...don't feel like it...so I thought I would join your group to try to get motivated enough to start walking most days of the week. Thanks! I love all these welcomes!

I'm thinking of starting off with the Weight Watchers walking program, off their website... it seems to start off slow and I can use it in addition to a watp dvd or a tae bo dvd each day.

finally, a minute to myself now that the kids I babysit are back with their parents and the phone has stopped ringing! woo!

anyways. I joined a bunch of teams tonight so this is going to be a kind of generic hello, but here goes:

hi! my name is Rachel, and I'm 24. (my best friend has the same name and is the same age, it's neat.) I recently moved to Southbridge, MA, but it's a horrible little slum-hell of a town, so I don't usually like to admit that I live there. um... let me see... oh, yes. I hate to exercise. hate it hate it hate it. but my mom apparently raised me halfway decent - I love junk food (like cheesecake), but I'm just as likely to eat some produce, so she did her best.

Stop by the "grab a coffee and chat" anytime your online. Its for whats ever is on your mind.

SO we remember to drink all of our water, we have a challenge to to fill (well working on it) last week it was a bathtub. All you have to do is post how many cups you drink with the date. (date is for me to keep track of)

hi, I'm new. I need to massively up my steps lately (my dogs are getting kind of antsy with me, because I keep cutting our walks short cuz I'm sick) and it's starting to show. I've gained back a couple lbs.

Wal-mart has some of them-both at the store and at walmart.com. Target has some too. Leslie Sansone sells them on her site as well, but they are more expensive there. You can however, view clips of the various programs she is selling so you know what WATP is like. If you do a google search, you will find quite a few sources so you can compare prices. Amazon.com had some a couple of months ago when i looked and probably still do.
You can also check and see if you can rent them first (some people have used netflix) or borrow them from your library. Some libraries have "inter-library" lending agreements so if yours does not have any, they may be able to find them at another library for you.

WATP videos..how can get them ?/ at home..i do walk a lot at work but nothing like i need.to.......i must make a regular thing to do each day... thank you for your imput

Welcome Diane,
what type of walking are you looking for at home? The WATP videos are good for inside and 15 minutes a mile so they are quick. And different lengths of time also. Or using a treadmill if you have one.

Or if your looking for ideas for outside, Parks and school tracks are good to.

Welcome to the group. I imagine that you must be quite tired after walking so much at work. Some of us use the Walk Away the Pounds Program for home exercise, some of us enjoy a walk outside-I like both, but mostly I do the walking in my home with Leslie (WATP). I'm sure you'll get lots of suggestions from other members here as well. We can be chatty, but we also support and encourage each other quite a bit.

up until 2 hours ago it was quite mild but I don't want to go outside now..I can hear the wind howling and my wind chimes are really singing to me..and it is going below 0 celcius over night and will do so for the next 4 nights. So bye bye summer and warm weather see you in 5 months

It's been miserable here too, Nancy. My son had a parade today (homecoming) so I got in some outdoor walking--with umbrella for part of it--2.5 miles with a nice drum cadence. I want the band (or the drumline) to follow me around keeping that beat all the time.
I have some jogging to do on my treadmill later tonight.

It's a site I found a year ago with a lot of old shows. Lost in Space (the old ones in b&w) are there along with a lot of other old shows. Some are free and some are for a fee. I think the lost in space ones might be free but I'm not sure about that. There are some old movies too.

Hey ya'll! My name is Sheri and I am so thrilled that I found you! I've been looking to branch out on Spark and anything that says Wacky is the place for me! I am doing really well on the nutrition part of Spark but seem to be having trouble consistently getting in the exercise. I do well for a while then slack, then get back on the wagon, but I'd like to stay in the wagon if you know what I mean. Actually I would like to rope myself to the back of the wagon so I could get some exercise in! Looking forward to getting to know ya'll!

Hi everyone! I've started seriously getting into shape about a week ago. I've started walking a mile every morning after taking the kids to school. I even took them with me on Sat. I'm thinking I might make it a weekly outing for them, too. I'm trying to lose the 20lbs my kids left me with. My daughter is 11 and my son is 7. I'll be 34 this weekend and I;m tired of squeezing into my clothes!
I'm on my was to a sparkling new me!!
