Welcome Sarah! Walking is a great stress releaser, but like Marie, another new member, from my home state of Massachusetts there won't be any outdoor walking for a bit, unless we have a snorkel and flippers. Flood watches and it looks like it may be raining for a good part of this week...and it's actually chilly too! I'm not complaining about the chilly. It's a nice relief from the steambath we had for a good part of the summer.
ok, so maybe a bit of exaggeration about the snorkel and the flippers, but it is going to be a wet week and there are flood watches in my part of the state. emoticon

Hi all.

I love walking the neighborhood. I do so 4 times a week. I find it helps me deal with stress and be a much nicer person overall. I also love the way I feel when I finish. Nothing like a nice blood pumping burn that leaves me all tingly and smiling!

Hello! I have joined a few teams here on sp and after I had a few weeks lost to eating too much and not enough exercise I decided I need to befriend some walkers!! I don't know many people who get excited about walking or even see it as really exercising. So here I am ! I am really glad to be here.

Hi everyone, glad I came accross this group! I enjoy walking out in the beautiful california weather all year long, can't miss out on this kind of luxery! I also live in a place that has a lot of hills and minor grade changes that introduce challenges to walks! I enjoy walking for fitness, it's nice to have a partner with me to pass the time or listen to music. I'm here to give positive energy to everyone and support so reach out to me if you want. Thank you for the welcome, I to did research on my CKD, My first Nephroloist, nurse threw a paper on the table and said here is what you can eat and cant eat. I called her Nurse Ratchet, you know from One Flew Over The Coocoos nest.Not log after i change Dr. got a new Nephrologist, but i learned so much about my disease on my own. I have learned you have to take charge of your health.

Welcome Caroline. I did go to read your page. I too have Fibromyalgia and find that walking is very helpful in managing the discomfort (I won't say pain). We all do best at our own pace, so I agree...you are doing well. You are also doing very well with your computer skills. You are a pro! See, I really did read your page! I have been a sparker for awhile, my self and my dog like to walk. I have been going at my own pace and i think I'm doing good. I have chronic Kidney disease, so walking is a good exercise for me. go to my SPage and read about me,

Congrats on sticking to your diet during a vacation! That's a success right there. Walking your dogs separately is a great idea. If you feel like you lost weight, then why worry about what the scale "says"? Thanks need to be me and gemstone1952. My trainer has changes my reutine a little. I have been on vacation for the last two weaks and I did good. I did not do the usual vacation eat all you can. I actually did better at keeping to my diet and even added dark chocalot covered almonds. 4 a day. I added them into my diet plan. I aslo started to walk my two dogs seperately, so I can get more excersize. I feel like I have lost weight but I have not been weighed yet.

I am not new to spark or walking, but decided to look for a team that can motivate me.
I have had 3 surgeries this year - the last one on March 3. I started walking again March 7th. I have worked my way up to 2 miles in 42 minutes. I cannot walk on days I work, as I have OA in my left ankle, but do walk on my off days, 3-4 days a week.
Looking forward to being challenged and motivated.
I want to feel better and look better!

Hi! I am Carra. I have been a spark for a long time, but I have been away for almost two years. I woke up this morning and decided that enough is enough and I needed to be healthy. I am happily married for the last 12 years. I have a 17 year old daughter and a 7 year old son. I took my son to the doctor and they weighed him and I was so embarrassed. My 7 year old son weighs 108 pounds! What kind of parent am I??? Oh yea, an overweight one. So my son and I have decided to race to see who can lose 25 pounds first!. We went for our first mile walk today and i think it was a great start, he is talking about doing it again tomorrow!

I'm 72 years old, 4 daughters, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, retired. I saw the name of this team and said that's me. Reading some posts I think I'm probably not as active as some. Had lap band surgery 3/26/2009 at 70 and lost about 90 pounds and have recently gained 10 and would like to get down to 140. I had diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea using a c-pap, arthritis with 2 knee replacements, and depression. Lots of drugs but now off most. Been on SparkPeople about 2 years.

Manderbean,
Best advice I can give you is to stop worrying about what the scale says. You are exercising more and you are using a personal trainer and you are watching what you eat. You are doing what you need to do so relax. There are other ways to measure your progress and the scale is just one of many tools. Try drinking more water, it helps for some reason to help the weight move...maybe it gets water weight off, I dunno. Something else that many of us fall prey to with the eating is those little "tastes" we take and don't count. You may not be doing this at all, but in the event that you are, be sure that you make a rule for yourself. If it goes into your mouth, it counts. Also, think about where your calories are coming from....try to get them from lean meats, veggies, low-fat, high fiber foods. These are things that helped me. Just don't give up and you will make your goal. Stop worrying about the scale. You'll get there.

Aaaaaah. Just got reweighed today and I am the same. I thought for sure I list some. I am using a personal trainer and excersizing more. I am useing my cal. counter. It is so discouraging. I was told to use the hill program on the bike rather than the manuel steady pace. I cannot run, use eliptical, or treadmil. Is there any one who can give other advice on what i might try. God willing I will find a workout that works for me.

Hi, I am new with the team. I have been with Sparks for awhile now and just keep going back and forth but getting my head on straight and losing this weight.

I joined to get myself and my daughter to start walking more. I have bad knees and it helps a great deal getting them strengthen back up. Looks like a great team and look forward to hearing everyones success stories.

Welcome! Is that a picture of Arches behind you in the profile pic? I love the southwest and Arches is one of my favorite places in the US. I'd love to know how you train for a marthon and how you choose proper footwear. I can walk a pretty decent distance but my feet seem to blister way too easily and then I am out for a long while waiting for the blisters to heal. I do have diabetes and I suspect that has something to do with why the skin on my feet is so easy to blister. Looking forward to your posts!

Wacky Walkers.... Maybe I'm a bit Wacky.... emoticon
I've always been a walker because of hip operations.
Last year I was a coach encouraging people for their first Marathon. (My Second)
6 hours 9 minutes 27 seconds.... Not to shabby... And I'm Proud to be a walker!
Plus I did 6x 1/2 Marathons.... So Yeah... I would say that is Wacky!
I was so pleased when the season finished. Very burnt out and sore feet... Just over using them.
This year I'm back to being a walker..... Not a coach.
I have signed up for 3x 1/2 Marathons. Mother's Day is my first for the year.
I'm looking forward to hanging out with some other Wacky Walkers!

Hello fellow walkers!
I have been with sparks for a long time now, and I'm still going up and down with my weight. I know it's all my own mistakes, eating really, really bad to not working out. I know what has to be done and how, I've lost the weight before and I know I will do it again.
My preferred cardio exercise is walking!! I love to walk! Whenever I run I always twist my ankle and with all this extra weight my right knee has been giving me trouble. I do most of my walking on a treadmill for the convenience of it, but I love walking outside.

Hello and welcome! I'm not sure who tracks steps here. I have used the omron when I was counting steps but ultimately I switched to a GPS style pedometer which tracks miles. We all walk and many of us also do other activities as well. Walking is great exercise and will easy on your knees and your Fibro (which I also have). I think you will find that as you build your endurance and strength through activity you will find that your fibro pain will be more tolerable. The endorphins will help! They most certainly helped me. Just take it slowly, one step at a time. Post your success on the success thread or the coffee chat thread. Those are the two threads that are most active. Hi. I've joined this team because I need motivation to start walking again. It was a long, dreary winter in upstate New York and I did no exercises. I have bad knees so walking is best for me. I own an Omron pedometer and my personal goal is to walk at least 3,000 steps a day.

I also have fibromyalgia and not a lot of energy. I read that I shouldn't exceed 5,000 steps a day, so that's my range.

I'd love to be able to report my daily steps here if anyone wants to join me in keeping track of their steps.

I am new to this and I guess I should intruduce myself. My job and running have kept me in shape. I am military, from Texas, and gained weight when I injured my leg and broke my finger. Brfore my injury I would run at least 5 miles a weak and walk twice as much as I ran. Now I am just trying to get on a good program that will allow me to loose at least 20 lbs. I can lift weight again but i am timited to walking and the bike. I now join you in the quest of being a devoted wacky walker.

emoticon I also have diabetes and I have found that diet and weight loss will bring down the blood glucose levels, but when exercise is added it works a whole lot better! You can do this! Good luck.

I wish you a lot of luck. You can do it. You only have 50lbs to go-better than 100--that's where i started. (actually 116)_ I've lost 25lbs- was down 33 but gained some weight this past week. I've been eating-eating-eating. and not walking as much. emoticon

Hi, I am 58 recently diagnosed with diabetes and need to lose weight, so I figured with dieting alone was not enough I figured now is a good time to get and start walking and maybe do some hiking with the Boy Scouts. I am starting out slow and easy, walked 1.1 miles this morning.

I new to this team. I try to walk some every day and 3 miles every other day. I'm 54 and still have 76 lbs more to lose. I've lost 33 so far.

Hi' to all the wacky walkers. I like the way it sounds. I really need to be more consistent with my walking routine, there are times when i walk 5 days aweek, then i start to slack off,but i need to be more accountable. I'm 59 not complaining about the age,but physically i need to bump up my fitness level. that is why i try to walk as much as possible. emoticon I live in Bronx, new york

I'm rejoining so thought I'd better reintroduce myself. I'm Vicki, 54 years old, and I live in Florida.
Right now I have about 56 lbs to lose to reach my goal of 185 lbs. My next goal is to lose another 40 lbs to reach 145 lbs and then stay there. I don't expect to lose it in the next year or even next 2 years, but I'm going to do my best to lose at least 2 pounds a month so that's 24 pounds a year that I won't have to deal with anymore. So if I can manage that, it'll take me about 4 years to reach my ultimate goal. But I'm going to make the healthiest food choices I can and work towards building up my exercise endureance, so by the time I do see my ultimate goal I'll be in the best physical shape I can be in.
