Gemstone, that is a lot of weight you lost. You started heavier then I am and went lower than I intend to. Who knows, maybe I will get smaller than I was in High school. Not if I don't quit drinking coke I won't. I quit smoking and coke is my weak spot. One coke a day is my reward for quitting smoking. But sometimes when I go to a ball game, I drink 2 or 3 that day.

darn, i typed a lot of stuff but evidentally in the wrong place. My sn is Morf90. I just joined today. Your group sounds like it could be very motivational for me. At work, I walk about 6 miles a day. That would help your team. Plus it would give me motivation to walk more. Sounds fun.

Yes, I used to have to carry him, but I about killed myself doing that, so that's why I pack snacks and books and stickers and his phone. He "calls" people and sticks stickers, drinks and has a snack and right about that time we are done and so is he. : ) I keep hoping the longer we do it he will get used to it. We have a friend we walk with with a little one, so they "chit chat" too. LOL!

I have 4 children of my own, 3 are over 21 and one is in high school. I also have 2 grandchildren (9 mos and 3 years) who I care for during the day while their parents (my eldest and his wife) are working/at school. They are grad students. It's tough to get in exercise while they are there so I usually end up waiting until they go home (ater 6pm). I've tried the double stroller but if one cries, the other joins in and they don't seem to like the whole "stroller" deal anyway.

Thanks! My two year old goes with me, my daughter (5) is in school. She just started Kindergarten. Sometimes Alex (2) is a handfull on the walks, but usually does good as long as I bring things to entertain him. : )

Hi! I am new. This is my first post on this site. I have started walking recently between 4-5 miles a day. So far I am down 13.3 lbs in about a month. I have two children, one who is 5 and a 2 year old. So I am pretty busy of course, but try to walk most days. I am looking forward to talking with you all.

Welcome--I love to walk too! Actually, I enjoy pretty much every type of activity except things that require me to go up high or under water--lol--but I like everything else.
It's been pretty quiet here on the team boards recently--I think because most of us are out and about walking but if you post, someone will always come along and chat--Advice--we can always use that!

Hi, my name is Debbie, AKA Empressijaa, and I am new to this group but have been on Sparks since 2007. I lose than gain but I have made a committment with my 17 year old to walk 6 days a week for 60 minutes each time. I will be 48 in a month and my goal is to run/walk a marathon. Alleyfay here NEWBIE to this group, I love to walk and have been trying to get up to 5 miles per day for some time now, but I have what the doctor call Planerts facilities, oh it hurts, but after 6 months off my feet I'm back, got Med's.. and fancy insoles from the foot dr. Walking now about 3 miles per day in short bursts, I'm 50 years young and wanting to lost about 30 lbs Help me out here Girls

Hi,
I'm Patty aka-Gemstone. Welcome. I am also 55, married 31 years in June and met my goal weight last August. I sure do know how it takes forever to heal at our age and once we do, it seems it doesn't take much to do it again. I find that when I am in pain, I will revert of my old eating habits. The only thing that holds me back from totally doing that is I am also a newly diagnosed diabetic so I do have to watch my diet for that--it helps so I guess the diabetes is a blessing in disguise.
You fit in really well with the rest of us "athletes". None of us like to take time off when we are injured or sick---I've been in PT for months for various injuries and I don't listen well or follow restrictions from my medical professional. Bobbie (Rowdy_Cannuck) and Christina (Sassy) do the same thing. Both of them are facing short term "physical challenges right now and both of them are pushing the limit. We are all struggling with the food tracking right now. So welcome!

Hi I'm 55, married for 35 years in June I reached my weight loss goal in Feb 2007. I broke my leg in the fall and with sitting around unable to walk or do much for quite a while I reverted back to my bad habit of over eating. These old bones seemed to have taken forever to heal. I'm back walking but still have to be careful not to injure myself. Unfortunately no more running for me. I like to go full force but have learned to take it easier. I quickly put on weight while injured. The hardest part for me is to stay on track with my food.

I love the name Wacky Walkers and all the challenges you have going on. I love challenges because they motivate me. Looking forward to getting to know everyone.

Hi, My name is Kay. I've been on sp for awhile and I think awhile back, I was even on this thread. I haven't been doing very good on my exercising or watching what I eat. I do alot of thinking about what I need to do, but I never seem to get it done. I'm hoping to get motivated again. I have alot of watp dvd's, I just need to dust them off and use them.

I'm Patty, aka Gemstone. Welcome to the the team. The most active thread on this team is the coffee chat thread so stop over and say "hi". I used to say for years-(I am not a runner), but I just discovered that I actually like running so never say it's not you. You might surprise yourself by liking it! I like most types of exercise now, unless it involves heights (no rock climbing, sky diving, etc) or putting my face in the water (no scuba for me) but I'll try most everything. I love walking best of all--but that jogging is beginning to move into favorite category!

Hi there! I'm Rebekah, new to this team, but been around Spark people for awhile. I've not been very faithful over the past year, we have not had internet at home. But now I'm back online & back on Spark! I've recently separated from my husband & in the proccess of all that, lost about 12lbs in 3 weeks. That gave me a jump to keep going! I have 2 boys that I homeschool & I also work part time at our church :) I tried to be a runner over the last year or so, but it's just not in me! lol. So, I'm trying walking! :) I did 3 miles last night with a friend & I feel great! We plan to meet 3 - 4 times a week & walk 2 1/2 - 3 miles each time.

Bunco - keep up the walking - it works - 5.15 miles today 14.4 minute per mile pace - took 8 weeks to get there - but walk as fast as you can for the distance and work on improving your times. It becomes addictive. And you get to enjoy the great outdoors. I saw significant results from walking two miles at 15-17 minute pace.

Good shoes and socks are critical.

Hello,
I have been with Sparkpeople over a year now and have been hit and miss with the exercise. Finally decided to stick with what I like to do which is Walking. Are you a big salmon eater? I am and I'd love to know someone else who is as well. Actually, I love most fish and I eat quite a lot of it. Have you seen a difference in your blood pressure readings since you've increased the exercise? It made a huge difference in mine. My resting pulse is now in the upper 40's to mid 50's and I have to work pretty hard to get the pulse rate up now.

I started 2-2-08 after getting a high blood pressure reading. (Followed by high cholesterol reading at formal physical on 2-25) Started walking after joining Spark 5-7 days a week between 30 and 60 minutes at 15min/mi pace. I have lost 35 pounds overall - 20 since Spark. I sure feel better. Mostly walk outside but also have done treadmill work in bad weather.
I turn 50 in June of 09 - my long term goal is scheduled for that day. Short term goal is less than 190 by my upcoming birthday. Hope the salmon fisherman don't go on strike between now and then.

We can all make this happen.

I'm still working on trying to reorganize the team threads here. I was thinking of dropping the stickty off the "introduce yourself" topic because I was afraid it would confuse people, and indeed it has so the sticky is coming off of it. I sort of inherited this team so I'm slowly reorganizing. I spend more time posting and chatting with members than the organizing stuff anyway--mostly because I prefer to do that and I think that is the purpose of the teams.
So, I've already said hi--I just wanted you to know you didn't have to say sorry for posting elsewhere first--it can be confusing. You did fine! Anywhere you post is ok with us. We are an easy going group.
I love walking--I love all types of activity as long as it doesn't involve spinning or heights or putting my head under water. So, no sky diving, bungee jumping, hang gliding or scuba for me. LOL
I use Walk away the pounds programs a lot. I really like them. I also like to put on my IPOD with some peppy music and just walk--jog--to the beat. DDR is fun too, though I am really bad at it.

Hi, Sorry I introduced myself in the general area of the introduce yourself section. Nonetheless, I've been w/SP for 2 wks now and then found you guys. I love walking and have started a new walking routine this week and thought you'd be a great forum for further ideas for getting my walking in.
