Merry Meet! I'm Ashley, 32, single mom to my two girls ages 7 and 5. Although I'm plus size I'm not overly concerned with losing weight since as someone with hypothyroidism that just causes frustration like you wouldn't believe, so I'm focusing on just being healthy and proving to myself that I can make walking a habit again on my own. I used to do the Walk Away the Pounds workout prior to having kids, was up to 4 miles! So, just trying to set a good example for my girls in being proud of my body as is but focusing on being as healthy as possible.

Today I am starting to walk again and am excited to meet you all as we share in our journeys to a healthier life. I'm hoping to get a pedometer soon, but am using the one on my cell phone until that day.

love and light!

~Ashley

Just joined. I have a little over 50 lbs to lose to get healthier than I am now and I know walking is the best exercise I can do at this time. I have RA of the spine so some days it's hard to get moving but I'll do the best I can.

Hi, I'm Lucy I have 3 children all girls 6,9,12 yes that is their real ages, so many people think I am joking when I tell them the ages of my kids. Anyway I walk 2 miles every day, and I love it. I use a resistance band for strength training. Hoping that the scale will keep moving down I have lost 2 pounds after 2 weeks of gaining. I have lost 3 inches total body so that is great.

100% of the shots you don't take don't go in.

Hi! I'm Linsey, from Michigan. I've been with SP for 3 yrs. I walk my dog nearly everyday, so thought this would be a fitting team to join. emoticon My girl likes the snow, so I walk her even during the coldest months. Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Hi! I'm Deb from Naugatuck CT. Just walked my first 5K this past Saturday and it was one of the most satisfying things I have ever one. Not only was it for a great cause (Griffin Hospital Cancer Center) but it was a personal victory for me. I set a goal and achieved it. Am eager to continue my progress both physically and mentally on my journey toward a more fulfilling life.

Hi, I'm Cheri and I am a 36 year old SAHM. I have a 21/2 year old daughter and am currently 7 months pregnant with another baby girl. For most of this pregnancy I have been sedentary and have just recently taken up walking as a way to keep in shape.

Hi, all! I'm Rita, age 52, currently living in SC by way of DC. I lost a lot of weight about 10 years ago, just walking and eating healthier, but gained the weight back when I stopped exercising and eating as I know best. I've just started walking again and I am loving it. I prefer to walk in the evening, but might one day try early morning as that seems to be the case for many in my neck of the woods. If I can help it, and I believe I can, I will never stop walking again as I now know just how important it is to keep doing it. Wishing you much success in your reaching your goals!

Hi Wacky Walkers, I have recently started walking before work and have found my day goes much better.(oh, and I seem to loose some weight) emoticon I have noted that I really miss my walking when I can't do it. I walk about two miles just in the morning. I also walk on my breaks and at lunch. I hope to fine some inspiration to keep going with this walking. the name of your team just sounded like you are a fun group. I will keep checking in.

Rejoined, final time...

Let's get re-aquainted.
I'm Vicki and I'm 56 years old.
I got rid of the scale and am working to drop inches. I'm going to the fitness center 3 times a week and working out at home 3 days. I rest up on Sundays.
My goal is to reclaim my health and over time go from a 3XL down to a size Large.

Hello. I am going to lose weight, and my primary exercise will be walking. I know it's important to warm up before a walk. Can anybody tell me a good way to do that? I'm not sure which stretches I should do, or how long I need to warm up. I am also not sure the proper way to cool down. Can anybody help a girl out?

I had joined sparks a couple of years ago but drifted away. Now I am realizing that I need the team and saw this group. The name of the group gave me a sense of have fun while you do it type of group. I hope to get some help and may be provide some help in my effort to make myself fit and healthy.

Hi Wacky Walkers, I have been on the team a couple of weeks and love it. You all have a geat team and I enjoy being in it. I am a csncer survivor and currently have Fibromyalgia. It makes it difficult to walk. But, I am going to do some indoor walking to see if I can do it. Wish me luck.

Returning Member, New Username...

I was a member of sparkpeople a couple times under different user names but since menopause, my thinking gets all screwed up and I let emotions get the best of me. So I end up dropping teams or leaving sparkpeople completely. But I'm back to stay this time, no matter what til I lose this weight.
******************UPDATED 10-27-2012********************
Ok, I had these big plans and guess I'm trying to do too much all at once. So here's an update on what I will be working towards now and hope with everything I have in me, I can stick with.
I went back to weighing and will weigh once a week instead of daily, starting tomorrow. After 30 years of weighing daily; going cold turkey just isn't going to work for me. So it'll be once a week for now.
I plan to do a modified low carb plan. That means I will basically be giving up 98% of the junk carbs but allowing the veggie and fruit carbs that most low carb plans frown on. For now I'm going to allow myself the 150 grams of carbs a day maximum but work to keep it lower.
In the past this would have me so frustrated I'd say to H*** with it and leave sparkpeople. That's not happening this time. I'm determined, come h*** or high water, I'm going to stick it out and do my best each day to eat in moderation of whatever I do eat and get in 30 minutes of some form of exercise and over time maybe add a little more. There will be days when I'm very active and then there will be days where I do good to get in the 30 minutes. It is what it is. All I can do is what I can each day.
I know this is a process but it looks like I could find something that would "click" for me and not be so friggin' hard.
But I'm not leaving and each day I'll do the very best I can.

I'm Sue, no relation to either famous Atkins. I am back at Spark People after 2 bouts with cancer. Through all of that, I made myself get up out of bed or the recliner to walk the dog twice a day. So walking became my first exercise, thought its very different than walking the dog. It is becoming a chore, so when I noticed your team, I thought I might be able to put a bounce back in my step, or at least be wacky doing it.

Hi! I have been a member of sparkpeople for several years, however I just got serious about weight loss in January 2012. I was searching the site today and found this group! Yeah! I love to walk. I try to walk 4 to 5 miles everyday. I usually walk with a DVD in my home, occasionally I walk around the halls of the school. I have lost 36 pounds since January and I owe it to walking everyday and watching what I eat. I still have a ways to go and i know I can do it by walking and staying active. emoticon

Hello, I am a new wacky walker member and I am excited to be a part of a group. I am hoping this motivate me to walking more and this time not quit until I am at my goal weight. It took four years before I realized how much weight I put on, hopefully with hard work, it won't be that long to come off. Glad to be on board!!!

Hey Guys,

My name is Jacqueline and I have been on this site since Nov. 2011. I have been an exercising demon and love it. Anyhow, walking is something I started in High School and I do it all the time. I love it. Anyhow, hope to see you guys on the boards!

Jacqueline

I'm the heaviest I've ever been in my life and it's time I get back to a weight I know will be healthier for me. I'm working towards getting down to 185 lbs. I won't be thin but I'll be much healthier than I am now.

Greetings From the Peach State. I'm 37 with 125 pound to loose. I have been sparking off and on for about a year, but havent taken advantage of many of the groups so I thought maybe getting involved would make me more successful.

Hi I am Cheri and I am a 34 year old, happily married, SAHM of a 21 month old little girl. I love walking. I am trying to do it every day whether it be outside with my daughter in a stroller or indoors with Leslie Sansone DVD's.

I'm working towards making the healthiest choices I can when it comes to taking care of myself. I've put away the scale and will no longer weigh myself except when at the doctors office. I don't want to define who I am ever again by a number on the scale. I've done that for way too many years.
I do want to make exercise a top priority as I have a couple of health issues that exercise would improve. Also it would definately give me more energy.
I'll basically be doing a low fat plan because I feel it's the healthiest way to eat. I want to incorporate a lot more veggies and fruits into my food plan and a lot less red meats and oils as they don't agree with me very much. I don't consider this a diet since this will be the way I eat from now on.

Hi, just wanted to say "Good for you JAKESOMA!" I'll probably have to get my knees checked out this year, they have been causing me a lot of pain for at least 7yrs now. Taking MSM seems to alleviate it a bit though. Keep up your strategy! emoticon

emoticon Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum. Just came back from our walk, my knees started to hurt halfway through. But we managed to walk 3.38 miles at 2.9mph. I just love the fitness tracking maps!

Why the name Wacky Walkers? It drew my attention for sure. I had both knees replace in the past 10 years so I walk a bit wacky at times. I am 57, 70 pounds over what I'd like to be but I am working on eating healthy and exercising instead of concentrating on weight loss. I want to be able to move without pain and to be happy with my food choices not always feeling guilty. Thanks for inviting me to join.

Hi, I'm Vicki. I live in Titusville, Fl. I'm 55 years old and 70 lbs over weight. I've been trying for over a year to get my weight down and all I've done is yo-yo back and forth. I did lose 12.2 lbs in 2011. I've started a low carb plan like I did back in the 80's ( I lost 105 lbs in 13 months and kept it off for 18 years), and I'm hoping to get the weight back off over the course of the next 2 years. I'm not nearly as active as I used to be so I know the weight won't come off as fast as it did back then. Plus I've gone into full menopause so my body tends to have a mind of it's own. I lose motivation easily so I'm hoping the team will help keep me motivated to stay on track. Thanks for having me.

I'm an older (75) year old single lady with 160 lbs to lose. At this weight, I have been totally unmotivated to move let alone walk, but today, as it is so beautiful outside today (85 degrees) plus being the first day of the new year, I took my dog and out the door we went. Walked twice around our local library - it's about a block square - and that was enough. I've had the majority of this weight for the past 35 years so it doesn't want to leave. But if it is going to hang around, it will have to deal with me walking. I have a dog and a treadmill and have no excuses not to walk, so here we go - until I get depressed and stop.

emoticon Starting over. Great plan moving your treadmill so you can also interact with your family while you WALK. I would love to run....I do it when I can, and unfortunately, I do it when I shouldn't so I can appreciate what you are going through. I could go for hours and then I pay for it later. I am paying for it now with knees that are "shot" for lack of a better description. Walking is a bit uncomfortable, but the endorphins make it all worthwhile. I had been at 10+ miles daily. I'm working up again and right now I can do 6. They are no longer fast, fast miles at my 4-5mph pace, but 3.7 to maybe 4mph. Slow and steady. I look forward to interacting with you on the team! Good luck with your goals and welcome again.

Hi Everyone, I am new to the team but not to spark people. I recently resparked on October 17th and didn't add exercise into my program until yesterday just taking it one step at a time.

I have been a runner on and off for the last 8 years but I have a big problem with moderation and have struggled in the past with finding a running program that didn't make me obsessive and over exercised as a result. I used to run at 5am and I used to run for hours sometimes running a half marathon just for fun. I did not in any way have "fun" :) or have a healthy approach to exercise. In the end of course I cannot maintain plans like these.

This time I have chosen to walk instead and I have moved my treadmill to my living room so that I am not in the basement running for hours without being included in my family life. I have discovered that I need a way to incorporate exercise into my life that doesn't interrupt my life in hopes that it will make it easier to stay with it. My plan is to walk when I am watching TV which is what I would be doing anyway just sitting on my butt normally :)

I really am looking for an active team and I look forward to getting to know you all :)
