Thanks for the tips everyone, right now I'm not ready to spend a decent amt of money on sneakers, but I am saving my pennies! I did get a pair of Sauconys though that have helped a lot. I'm definitely ok with these for now, but I do plan on upgrading in the future!

Rhiannon, nice to see someone that is one day ahead of me on c25k, I feel like I'll be watching you closely to see what I have to look forward to!

Welcome, I am on week 2 also, just finished day 2 today. Good shoes are key, and once you know what you are looking for you can bargan hunt the styles that fit your needs. I use the minimalist style shoes with less heel, so I have fewer shin and foot problems and more of a calf burn, but this style was better for me because I land forward on my foot (on the balls of my feet rather than the heels). Once you get fitted you can always take the shoe models you like best and shop online for the best deal. I didn't spend anywhere near $100, so you may not need to spend a lot to get good shoes.

I started again today after almost a year off due to plantar fasciitis. My cardio sucks, but that's ok... my feet didn't feel like they were on fire, so I can work on the cardio! emoticon

Please, oh please, get fitted for shoes sooner rather than later. The right shoes make such a difference - in comfort, and in keeping you strong and healthy.

Hi everyone, I've been in this group for a while but I'm just starting the c25k now. OK actually, I've started it like 5 times, but this time I'm really going to follow through and finish. I'm signed up for a 5k Color Run in July, so I really need to finish lol.

Today was my first day and I actually started with week 2, since I've done week 1 so many times in the past. I felt pretty good and managed the whole thing, so I'm pleasantly surprised. My run is more like a slog, but whatever it takes!

My troubles mostly come from shin pain rather than like gasping for air and losing my breath. I know I should eventually get fitted for sneakers, but for now I've found that going slow and stretching my shins has really helped.

Hoping to get to know everyone, and hoping that since it's May 1st, maybe some other people decided today would be a good day to start as well, so we'll be at similar stages.
