Hi, I'm Karri! I used to run quite a bit, and bike too. I am quite overweight now and need something to motivate me! I don't love to run, I always used tell people if you see me running you better run too because something bad must be happening! Anyway, my DH got me a treadmill for my birthday (at my request) and I love it, but I'm so tired of just walking on it, but I'm scared to run. I don't know why. So today I'm going to do the first of my C25K training and get over it. I can't wait to work the program and get back into running shape again

Hey I'm Julia and I am currently downloading the app. I turn 40 this June and I want to run my way through the year. 40 is the new 20 right? So I want to end my 40th year in better shape than I was at 20, which is a tall task because I was in fantastic shape at 20. But I am excited about the journey!!

Hi there! I'm Kristine and I started with the C25k app yesterday. I'm working on training for the Color Run in Des Moines this July. My goal is to jog the whole thing. I think I can get there if I stick to it!

I started the program back in August and got through week 5 (doubling up some weeks until I felt good about my progress) before work got in the way and I let all my progress fall apart. At least I remember how good it felt to get out and run those longer stretches (I've NEVER been a runner!)

Hi, I'm Lynne and I am on Week 4 of the program. So almost halfway. I have always loved running for exercise but if I even miss a week I feel so sluggish and end up skipping more which in turn gets me so out of shape. I don't mind beginning over and over again because I love getting out there and trying .

Hi, my name is Cheri and I actually graduated the couch to 5k program at the end of October but then just stopped running from halloween until after Christmas where I ran a few times and could barely make 5 minutes Then I took another month off and tried running again and just felt very out of shape so I decided to try it again from the beginning. I had also gained some weight over the holidays so I know that had something to do with it.

Hello! I am new to C25K. Today is day 3. Training for the Color Run in September. Any tips for an over weight, short, not runner would be helpful!

I am new to this group but not new to C25K. I started the app last year and then was sidelined by a knee injury and the unexpected death of my 4 year old dog (she helped to motivate me during the running segments)

Starting up again, and am now in week 4. Looking to run an actual 5k for charity in May, and I am a little nervous about that.

But I've decided that I will be breaking out of my comfort zone quite a few times this year, so it's at least worth a try. I think I read something funny about your PB of your first event, but can't recall how it goes. emoticon Oh well.

New to the group and new to C25K. It's been a long time since I did some exercise, although I have been practicing Ving Tsun kung fu for the last 3 years, it's not so strong on the exercise side...

I hope to get through C25K, not necessarily to run a 5K, but most of all to get healthier and gain some endurance.

I started C25K few weeks back. Due to my over weight, i am currently in week 3.
My ultimate goal is to be able to run 3 miles in 30min.

I graduated in 2012 and was well on the way to running 3 miles in 30 minutes - then I had to stop running due to nerve injury (from a previous illness) and some knock-on effects from that, like tight Achilles and a seized-up hip.

But I've started again and feeling good! I know that wearing the right shoes, warming up and doing my stretches properly is very important. I'm going to repeat runs if I have to - the only competition is with the version of myself that is still on the couch!

I started this program a few years ago, but stopped due to a non-related injury. I started over again today and walked/jogged while my kids did their soccer practice emoticon

I'm excited to jump into the program. I intensely dislike running, but I feel that it's important to improve my mobility and endurance. Excited to try something new!

Hello, I am new to this group and still trying to figure out how to get started. Thank you for putting this team together. I am 39 years old and have 50+ pounds to lose. I used to have a love, hate relationship with running. I would hate it until I was done and then...I loved it. Sounds strange I am sure. I haven't actually ran in almost four years and would like to get back on track

I'm actually in week 6 of c25k....I'm loving it!! I have never been a runner (or ever had the desire to be a runner!) but since starting, I feel so great I don't want to give up. Now I'm thinking, what do I do when the 9 weeks is up. I really love the zen labs app...I like it just tells me how long I have.

Hi everyone! I have never been a runner (or even a jogger, lol) so when I downloaded the C25k app a couple of times now, I always ended up deleting it when I couldn't make it passed the first couple of days... But this time is going to be different because I am determined to run my first 1/2 marathon in April 2016!

Hello everyone,

I am back into running after I broke my ankle last year in a car accident. I completed W4D2 yesterday and it felf great.

I plan on running a 5k in August - a color run to be precise - so it should be a fun run!

Hello everyone!
I'm in week 1 of C25K. I started once before, but got to busy to complete it. I'm beginning on my treadmill, and i love the way my entire body feels when done. The one issue i'm having is not keeping as upright as i should and getting a little off balance, so i'm going to venture off of the treadmill and see how that feels.

Hi. I've been off sp for almost a year. But I'm back and looking for help, motivation and real weightloss. I am not a runner but I want to be. I see all the results other people get and the ones who lose a lot of weight always seem to be runners. I'm at 249 right now and I'm 55 years old. I tried running a couple years ago but was too embarrassed/self conscious to keep going. But now I need to get going as time is passing so quickly.

Hi, my name is Jessi. I just downloaded the C25K app for my phone and signed up for The Blacklight Run in Tampa- for June 27th. My Mom and my Aunt are doing it as well so it's going to be a team effort- which is fabulous. I am already registered and paid so that I won't back out or make excuses. I am in it to make it to the end and I am ready to run my tail off. I am starting tomorrow morning. :)

Did W1D1 yesterday. Glorious! I can't wait until tomorrow to do day 2.

36 year-old, SAHM with a worthless BA who homeschools 4 crazy yet clever kids.
I was doing 30-Day Shred but I didn't see the point killing myself busting it. I finished level 1 but was bored. Who needs to do jumping jacks to survive? But it certainly benefits everyone to be able to walk forever and to run. I just plug in my music and hop on the Dreadmill. My yard and the weather are NOT conducive to be tread by humans until winter is over. So until I can take the run outside, I'm going to do the best I can inside.

On 2 rest days I strength train with dumbbell routines and on the weekends I try to get leisurely walks in if I can.

Happy running!

Oh I'm so glad to find a C25K team on SP! I completed this program about 5 years ago, and ran my first (and only) 5k. I kept running with the goal of completing a 10k, eventually injured myself, and then I fell off the wagon for a few years. I'm trying to get back into the habit of daily exercise, and know that starting the program with the goal of completing another 5k will be good motivation to get outside despite the cold weather.

Hi!

I'm on my first week of C25K, last run scheduled for today!
I'm running on a treadmill, 1% incline for now, using the podcasts. So far I like it a lot!

I did a Couch to 20 minutes a few years ago. I've spent quite some time on the couch since then, but I can tell that my body still has some memory of how to run. Kinda tempting to skip ahead a few weeks, but I'm gonna stick with the program. Otherwise I might burn out, hurt myself (carrying around quite some weight), or just start off too hard and end up regretting it.

Great that there's a team!

I don't bleed. I don't bruise. It's always good news. I can't lose!

You can do it - just take your time. I'm new too. I've been at it a minute, but still have a long way to go! emoticon emoticon

Chi running is a natural way to run, like you did as a child. Less use of leg muscles, lean forward and let gravity move you. Let your legs go behind you, never in front. With proper form no knee problems or hip. That's my very short version. Reading the book or looking it up on YouTube they really focus on the energy coming from your core. When I started running it hurt so bad and I felt like I was running through concrete! When I do it correctly I feel light and no pain. My grand daughter helped me with form when I started and she said I looked like I was scared when I ran. After weeks of practice she was impressed with me (she was in track) there is a lot about it on YouTube and I just found a group on here!

Glad you're back in the game! I'm unfamiliar with the Chi running form you mentioned. Care to elaborate? Good luck to you and keep us posted. We all love to cheer you on!

Hi. New to the group but not to C25K. I started it last spring. I'm 51 with a lot of reasons not to run, but with proper form I love it! Finished the rundouble app while in Guam visiting my daughter. Did a 5K with my son in law while I was there. Had to walk most of it though. It was 100 degrees and 100% humidity. Did it in 61 minutes. It was actually 3.75 miles. It will be easy to beat my time. Hurt something in my back on the flight back and this last week I've had pneumonia. Have only run a few times in the last month and a half. I am restarting the C25K next week. Need to rebuild my endurance. This is something I never thought I would do, and ended up loving it so much! I do follow the Chi Running form, does anyone else?

have no fear, we're all beginners too. Running is something I've always wanted to do and now I'm working at it. It is amazing what your body can do. I encourage you to give it a try. Make sure you have GOOD running shoes and comfortable clothing. I recently purchased some Sketchers and I love them. Pick a really safe environment and just GET OUT THERE! Take your time and stop and walk when you have too. We'll get there one day! Good luck to you and again.....

WELCOME! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello, all! I just joined the team, and plan on starting C25K on Monday. This is my first time trying any type of training program.
I have always told people, "If you see me running, you'd better run too, because something must be chasing me!"
I'd like to change that, and be able to tell people, "I'm a runner. If you see me running, I'm having fun!"
I'm very nervous about starting. I'm 45 and have 20-30 lbs to lose, and I haven't been very consistent with any form of exercise. I'd really like to get into shape before I start having any of the health issues that seem to creep up on us as we age. Particularly Type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure, which both run in my family.
OH, and just to make it REALLY interesting, I am planning to quit smoking on Monday, too!
emoticon
Have a great weekend, everybody!

Sharon

Hi everyone. My name is Brenda. I have ALWAYS wanted to run, tried it and developed the worse chin splints. Let it alone for years. Got some professional advice and never got another one again. Got a letter in the mail from our health insurance carrier about getting folks off the couch and running a 5K last year in April (race in June)! Eureka! Off I went..... training for 9 weeks. I had been suffering with low back pains prior to signing up for the 5k. I just decided to do the best I could. Made it to week 6 and could NOT go any further.... fast forward..... February I had surgery... recovered nicely. Then I moved. Well, here I am now - ready again. Bought brand new running shoes today with intentions of starting my training for another 5k on Monday morning! (haven't found the race yet...lol) Wish me luck! emoticon

Hi, my name is Katie. I had a goal to begin the C25k program this past Monday but that did not happen due to some poor choices I made in bedtimes emoticon . I will be starting this week. My goal is to be healthier, lose weight and feel better. Also, I would like for the approximately 60 stairs I have to take to get to my desk every morning at work to not leave me breathless. I am not new to fitness. In fact just last year I completed the Farrell's eXtreme Bodyshaping 10-week program and continued for a few months after. Eventually, I let schedule changes allow me to get lazy and now have gained all of my inches and weight back plus some. I am hoping this program is as easy to follow as it seems. I have downloaded the app to my phone and purchased new headphones so I am ready to take it on. Wish me luck! And please...hold me accountable. We all need that!

Good luck,
Katie E.

Hi Team!! My Name is Stacy!! I have a very long story as to what brought me back to Spark people, but, right now I am gonna try to make it a bit shorter lol! I have been a member of SparkPeople since some time in 2009! I have also been a Stay At Home Mom since 2000 for the most part and I have also been in an abusive relationship since about that time too ( I am over it now it is in my past I am not afraid to talk about it but it takes to long to explain all the quote un quote reasons I gave my self for staying just know My 2 amazing boys where the main ones) Okay so this relationship led me to emotional binge eating almost every single day because he was an alcoholic and every time he drank everything became my fault!! This dissolve of or relationship really started on my birthday of this year when he managed to get us evicted another long story not worth tell at the moment lol!! So it was actually made quiet clear to me that this was not gonna work out in Juneish of this year and I was also diagnosed with cancer as well because of the stress of the whole mess I ended up with lymphoma and pancreatic tumors but that became my reason to change everything so not everything that seams bad is actually a bad thing!! I decided to take my health seriously I started exercising daily I got DVDs called the 10 min solution Xpress Workouts I started doing 3 of these 10 min routines everyday with the main ones being kickboxing lol, and adding whatever felt right to those ones and if I did not have the strength to do those cause lets face it I am fighting cancer and I have good days and bad days as far as pain and energy levels go, I would not beat myself up over it I would just go outside and sit and work in my garden or take a walk sometimes just getting outside would be enough to get my energy up and I would be able to do the 30 mins!! Now I have always loved running as a kid and have always wanted to do it more but bad relationship and more excuses got in my way! But now I am taking my life back for me and I am going to do this for me in fact I even started my own Walk/jog program yes I have spent countless hours researching the topic and I just started doing it but I wanted a more structured plan I do good with structure and plans and all that so I came back to spark people again and I have decided no matter what this time I am not leaving y'all are stuck with me now!! Oh and by the way since I started my journey this summer I have lost 53lbs already and I am hoping adding the running to my program will help me lose the other 47 I want to lose for a total of 100+ lbs gone never to return again!! I am sorry this is so long I seam to have a lot to say but any way this was me introducing myself to you all again for the last time!!

one step at a time one day at a time we'll get this done!!

Hello Team,

I'm Eliza. I just finished my week 1 day 3 a few minutes ago. I've never liked running, but have found with the right music it can actually be fun. We'll see if I still feel that way during the coming weeks. I'm trying not to look too far ahead in the program; anything beyond a couple of minutes of running seems so out of reach at this point!

Good luck to everyone :)

Hi there!

I'm Sara from Ottawa and I used to run a long time ago.

I stopped due to my son developing Type 1 Diabetes 3 years ago and have spent the whole time taking care of my child. I let myself use him and his constant monitoring as an excuse to sit on the couch.

I had a baby 4 months ago and I am not willing to sit on the couch any longer. Despite the fact that I am sitting on the couch writing this.

Just wanted to say hi. I'm restarting my C25K. I had started one in the spring and was well into week 3 when life got in the way. I've signed up for The Color Run 5K in Sept. I know I don't have quite enough time to train fully for it, but it's a fun run so there is no pressure. I'm excited to restart my training and have somewhere to be accountable and to keep me motivated.

Hello everyone!
I'm 42 and I have decided to introduce some running in my fitness routine. I have never run, I must admit, but I always walk (I don't drive) up to 90 minutes a day, so I need to get my pace faster! :D Well, since I'm now on summer holidays and the gym is not too appealing, I am taking 75 minutes' walks (brisk pace, about 8 km in a hour) with jog intervals, 3-4 times a week. For now, I cannot run for more than 30 seconds or so on each interval, but I'm working on improving this day by day, so that with time, I can run more than walk.

Just joined the C25K team! I used this program last summer and am back at it. I had my first run on Saturday, although I started with week 3 emoticon

Congrats on making that decision Wendy. With determination and patience, you can do this. I am currently getting ready to start week 3 of the C25K program (I use the one by active) and I can tell you that you will be amazed at what your body will be able to do by following this program. ... Looking forward to seeing your progress.

Welcome, Wendy! The Color Run should be a good first 5K since it's a fun run rather than a timed run. Walking and running is a great way to finish.

Hello,

My name is Wendy, I tried doing the training for a different 5 K team, and found that it was a bit to difficult for me. So, I have joined this one in hopes that I will be able to keep up. I have registered for a 5 K Color Run in September. I have never done one before, and have always had fear about running, as I grew up with asthma.

I now have moderate COPD, along with the asthma, but I have made up my mins that I will do this, the best that I can. Even if I can only walk, I want the satisfaction of at least completing the 5 K. I know I can walk it as I have already been walking 4 miles, and have recently added some short times of jogging.

I have plenty of time to train, and just really need some encouragement, and advise.

Thank you for allowing me to join your team.

Hello! I just started over again (again) this morning with Week 1. I was never a huge fan of running or exercise in general. I always got the bulk of my exercise through other activities that just happened to be physical in addition to being fun. Fast forward: back injury, food allergies, and ongoing GI issues have made for a lot of starts and stops.

I'm really motivated this time around. ...not the motivation that comes with optimism and some perfect plan, but the kind that comes with frustration and a realistic perspective. Making myself do this is half the battle...or something.

That said, I'm here and ready to go.

"Why are we so full of restraint? Why do we not give in all directions? Is it fear of losing ourselves? Until we do lose ourselves there is no hope of finding ourselves."

Just started C25K again yesterday. I've done it a couple of other times over the last 6-7 years, but usually fall out of the running pattern. This time was actually easier than it has ever been to get started and it felt good! I'm not someone who particularly enjoys running, but it was actually kind of enjoyable this time. Love the C25k program and what it can do for you in such a short time.

Welcome, Natalie :-) IT sounds like you're off to a solid start. Don't worry if you need or want to walk some of your Glow Run, just completing it is awesome!!

Hey ya'll. I'm Natalie and I've just started C25k. Well, I've actually just started trying to build up TO C25k. LOL I'm coming from a nearly 100% sedentary starting point so I'm going to take a while to get to where I can even complete "Day 1." I wasn't even allowed ANY weight bearing exercise this time last year so starting this is a whole new world and almost surreal for me. I am working toward doing The Glow Run with my two grown daughters on August 23rd. If I still can't run the whole thing by then, that is okay. The fact that I can even walk 3 miles now is more than doctors ever expected.

Out of curiosity, is anyone else here over 50, over 200lbs or vegan?

Hi, I am Kelley. I'm not new to this site, but this will be my first time trying to run C25k. I used to play basketball in elementary school, but hated the "suicides" they made us do from one side of the court to the other. That being said, I didn't think running would be good for me until I tried it. I am 256lbs, and even though I am overweight I ended up doing it for a different reason than losing weight: I did it to help with stress, tension, and anxiety (that was April 8th '14.) It put me in a whole new mindset, like a very peaceful one :) didn't see that coming.

I am hoping that this works out. When I ran this year, I did the big no-no of not stretching :(
Now that I am all healed up, ready to attempt again but I want to "run smart"...so I am finding videos to stretch to. The way I felt when I ran was Amazing, so I can't wait until I get back into it! Thank you for welcoming me :)

P.S. I am using yoga for another mind-helping exercise.

Grab life by the horns, then take it and RUN like heck...

I'm Hillary. I'm on Week 2 Day 2. I signed up for my first 5K on July 4th. Luckily I've been exercising for a while so I can actually run more than I thought (never ran before) but so far week 2 is kicking my butt. Its so hard not to look at the timer on my phone app!!

I'm doing this in conjunction with P90X3.

Hi my name is Jessica, I start c25k this week. I've tried it many times before but always quit after week 2. I really want to do a couple of 5ks this summer and I'm hoping that will motivate me to finish this time. I live in NH and with winter finally over its nice to get outside.

Welcome!
Gingersunshine, be careful of running 5 days/week when you are a new runner. Your body does need recovery time. It does sound like you are doing well with it, though. Just be mindful of your body.

Angela, those are huge goals!!! Good luck!

Hey everyone!!

My name is Angela. I am in week 1 of C25K. I have struggled with my weight much of my life. I am athletic, yet can't really show it with this weight. I live in Central/Northern Maine. I am 34 years old and have been married almost 11 years and we have a very vibrant 8 year old son. I want to become a runner!!

I have set 2 huge goals for myself:

1st: In July 2014 I am doing the Tough Mountain Challenge at Sunday River in Maine. It's pretty much muddy obstacles while climbing a mountain!! It's a 5K.

2nd: In September 2014 I am doing the Insane Inflatable 5K in Portland Maine. Its pretty much huge bounce house obstacle things spread over a 5k area.

Hello, glad to be in the group! My name is Stephanie and I'm in my 5th week out of 10 on my Couch to 5k program. I will be running my very first 5k on May 20! emoticon I sort of created a custom program using two different free podcasts, the Couch to 5k Christian Indie Broadcast (sometimes getting through some of the songs on that is more of a challenge than the jog LOL) AND I also alternate with the 5k 101 podcast put out by Running Mate. I run 5 days a week in order to get my cardio in and maybe give myself a little extra challenge. I normally look at the two programs and choose the one that looks harder to do on days 1, 3 and 5 and the one that looks easier on days 2 and 4. emoticon I take a rest day somewhere in the middle of the week (partially depending on weather) and another on Sunday. Also I am in a contest called "Lose to Win" with my mom through a local hospital. The winning team gets to split $1,000 so Mom and I are motivated! It's cool because they had a kick off dinner last month and we got to hear a speech by Ali Vincent, the first female winner of The Biggest Loser. emoticon

If anyone's interested on what I'm doing for my 5 day a week program I'd be happy to share the charts I made to keep track of my progress and also I just posted a blog about it for last week and this week on my page. In a nutshell, I spread the program out over 10 weeks (the amount of time I started with until my 5k) by using all the supplemental/ "optional" workouts that each includes. Weeks 1 through 3 I used the 5k 101 on days 1, 3, and 5, and the Couch to 5k on days 2 and 4. Weeks 4 and 5 are on my blog here:
http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage_public
_journal_individual.asp?blog_id=5665366

Anyway, good luck everyone, it's good to be here! emoticon emoticon
