It sounds like you are on the right track. I have had my best success in slowly extending that long run. Go out for five more minutes each week and before you know it those long distances seem like old hat.

Welcome to the team! And welcome to the world off of the treadmill! One thing that really helped me to increase my distance was to sign up for some of the distance challenges on the various running teams. Like this team has a challenge to run 15 miles per month, which really motivates me to meet that goal and then some.
Also, setting personal distance goals has really helped me to increase my mileage. Lately my monthly mileage goal is sometimes the only thing getting me out the door as we slooowly head into Spring. Good luck!
Hi all. I've been running 2-4 miles for a couple of years on a regular basis, but this year started off with a 10K program to challenge myself and to break away from the treadmill and get out on some of the really nice trails that we have around my area. Did well, had some mile split PRs and am trying to incorporate more longer runs into my weekends. Recently did my first organized 5K, doing another one this month, and am contemplating a HM this fall. Looking to increase my distance and lower my mile time, so I'll be watching for tips.
