A fall full gives you plenty of time to get into a training program.

HI MARIEANG,

I would recommend that you lose the weight first before you undertake marathon training and the reason is, your body is going to require more nutrients and calories to support the training and recovery for a race of this duration. It is very difficult to do both because cutting back on calories to support weight loss may compromise your running performance and more importantly your recovery.

Do you do intervals? Would help with your base speed and also the weight loss goal. Good luck!

Love to run! Want to increase from a half to a full, but I am worried about being a heavier runner, so I want to lose about 20 lbs before I increase distance. Run 3X per week, a couple of 10Ks and a 15K. Next race is the 12K Spartan (obstacle course). Would like to do a fall marathon - see how the weight loss goes. Thanks!
