Im beginning to think this team could very well be dormant! This is January - a time when this team may be the busiest of all and in the past 10-days there have been less than a dozen who have even posted...hmmm.... Is Portland really not interested...Or are there just other ways people are finding fitness? If you are out there and reading posts, please chime in -- Any ideas?
Thank goodness! I just posted that I wouldn't be able to make it because my kids fell asleep at Powell's lol. Next week it is lol.
We buy organic A LOT at my house. Every weekend in the summer time we go out to Sauvie's Island for fruits and veggies. The kids love to pick their own food and so do I! We're usually big on green beans, blackberries, raspberries, corn, peaches, strawberries and jalapenos. In the store we buy organic carrots.
I do try to buy fruits and vegetables that are organic if recommended. I also buy eggs that are organic (they are a bit more expensive, but when I think about the fact that I would (until recently) spend almost $5 for a Starbucks, it puts it in perspective).
Janet, Im okay with kids coming on a walk. There will be a normal adult walking pace and it is about 3-miles around the waterfront. I cannot commit to walking a slower pace for a lunch time walk as I will only have the hour. Just to clarify too - the walk will be next Tuesday, not tomorrow. Sparkpeople is such a good resource for this weight-loss journey! You've definitely found the right place!

For me, a banana and red pepper comes to mind first!

Is it ok if I bring my kids along for the walk? I'd love to come
As far as my fitness goes, I walked my two kids to the store yesterday instead of driving and today I signed up for the SparkCoach Activity and got some exercises done with an exercise ball that's been sitting around my house collecting dust for the last year through the suggestions they gave me. I'm super excited about starting SparkPeople and SparkCoach!
Well our Sparkteam board has some updated direction and posts! I havent received much feed back (less than 5 out of 17,000+ responded). Im hoping this is just a sign that people are still returning to life as we know it after the holidays.
As you may have seen, we have an event scheduled for Tuesday noon at the for a "lunch-time walk" downtown waterfront - I hope you can join us if you will be in the area. We have a Facebook Event posted, so please signup over there. We will only be using the Facebook group minimally, relying moreso on Sparkpeople to chat and share information rel;ated to this site.

WOW, I am surprised by just how inactive this team seems to be! There are over 17,000 Usernames, but where are the people? Are we really only interested in recording the number of cups of water we drink or how many points we got on the Sparkwheel -- C'mon Portland -- What do you want to do in 2014? Is there any interest in meeting "real time" and taking walks in the great outdoors? Let's spread the spark ... Are you ready to ignite?
What is your favorite Sparkpeople feature and why?
For me, I have been on Sparkpeople since 2006 - and what a great resource, becoming even moreso over the years. I like the ease of tracking nutrition and fitness. I also like being involved on Sparkteams (such as BLC) that challenge people in meeting their goals while having fun.
I hope you saw my Sparkmail to you -- This earlybird (yes I am) actually "stayed up" just to send it at midnight!
We have some great tools available on the Sparkpeople site and will be revamping this team so it is more user friendly (sorry old threads wont immediately disappear, but will eventually fade away due to non-use).
Are you interested in finding some "real time Spark exercise buddies"? If we were to plan a local walking-type event - Would you come? The downtown promenade or some other walking location might be a good starting point? Could you commit time each week/month to get together with exercise buddies and realize some fitness goals? What are your thoughts on this?

One of my favorites are Zumba classes! I love the fact that although I cant dance (and am somewhat uncoordinated), I can move - and I can feel the music, and although initially I cared that others "were watching me" that after a while, it didnt matter! I do strongly believe that one must listen to their body and should limit moves as needed!
