The Columbia Gorge and the coast are also great places for hiking. There's a great wine growing region, the Willamette Valley about 30 minutes drive and Portland is a big brew/beer town. Lots of good eats and music.

Since you like hiking, you will have one of the best hikes in the world within minutes of what ever part of town you pick to live in. Forest Park in the west hills have miles upon miles of trails, the longest of which is the Wildwood Train, over 30 miles from begining to end.

Thanks for the info! We're really excited about the hiking possibilities, as we've hiked most of the trails here in San Diego, which are, for the most part, very similar to each other. We're up for a new adventure!

Part of what has really attracted us to Portland is the dedication to more responsible living that we've been hearing about. I love the fact that people seem to have such passion for it!

Welcome to Oregon, the Pacific Northwest. There are so many thing good to say about Portland that are to numerous to list. One thing for sure is that you will get the complete four-seasons with some seasons lasting longer than desired (winter, but not harsh) but there are so many thing to do and see. I transplanted from So. Cal. many years ago and still adjusting to Oregons weather. The good things about the weather is that it is clean. Portland is the most beautiful area I have ever lived. I personally enjoy the West side in the suburbs.
Nike World Headquarters is located in Beaverton, Several Intel plants are located on the Westside, in Hillsboro. We have our own silicon Valley with many peripheral businesses in the electronic business.
The beautiful coast is only 1.5 hrs away, the columbia gorge is less than 30 min. away, Central Oregon desert is a couple of hours away, Mt. Hood is only 45 min. away. Nothing is more beautiful than the Oregon Coast and mountains. If you like hiking, motorcycle riding, sports, camping, night have found the right place.
Good luck with your move.

Hi everyone! My family is planning to move to Portland next year, and we've been doing our research about the city, but I'd love to hear from people that actually live there. We've heard such wonderful things, and want to know everything we can!
