Hello Augusta Sparkers! My name is Brittany. I'm the new co-leader of the group! I just wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself and let you all know about some of the things I'd like to see the group accomplish in the new year. I know that we are going to see a jump in the number of active members once the new year starts, so I'd like to go ahead and get to know everyone, as well as plan a couple of things.

I'm 23, work full time as a property manager and also go to school, working towards my bachelor's degree in Homeland Security. 2013 has been a huge year for me. I got married in June and we closed on our house in August. Since then things have just been a tiny bit INSANE. We also volunteer as fosters for a local animal rescue. I'm an avid music fan and most of our spare time (and money) is devoted to traveling around to concerts. I'm also an amateur photographer.

I have struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember. I slimmed down to 160 when I was a teenager while I was participating in the police explorer program at our PD in my home town. Once I moved to Augusta in 2010, I moved in with my now husband and started going to college, as well as working full time in a super stressful job. I balooned up to about 240 in about 2 years. Over the past few month's I've somewhat regained control of my hectic schedule and have started eating right and exercising daily.

I enjoy all sorts of outdoor activities (especially when I can bring my dogs!) and I also enjoy running. I'm currently doing the Couch to 5k program to get back into running. With the police department, we would run 3 miles EVERY MORNING! I'm a member of Gold's Gym on Bobby Jones, but I hardly go because I don't really like going alone and I get intimidated and self conscious of all the of the fit people around me. I would love to find someone that has similar goals as me (to lose about 100lbs) to go to the gym with a few mornings a week.

I am registered to run/walk the Dog Gone Cold 5k on January 25, and I'd love to have some company. Is anyone interested in doing it with me?

I'm not sure how many people are active in the group, but I'd love to organize some walks/jogs along the canal or get together for a healthy meal in order to meet and get to know everyone. I plan to be very active on the site and am here if you have any questions or any ideas about activities or anything like that.

Welcome back. I was a former member myself and rejoined little over a year ago. I am working on losing the middle myself and I have found that pilates strengthens the core a lot and I like jogging, and bellyrock for my stomach.

The possibilities always outnumber the problems.

Rejoined SP yesterday, after 4 years of being away. Tried WW, but just paid alot of money to lose 10 lbs, then went no further. Rejoining SP and rejoining the weight loss journey. I absolutely need tips for losing that abdominal fat that will not go away. I hope you all realize how blessed you are to have people at SP that care about your weight loss journey! Augusta is truly an amazing place!

Hello All. I am somewhat new to the Augusta metro area. We relocated here last December. I am motivated to get back on a healthy and balanced diet/exercise routine. I recently viewed a photo and unfortunately, I didn't recognize myself! I have gained 30 lbs since college. My ideal weight is 130 lbs. I am a single mom and really have to squeeze time for exercise and any athletic recreation. In addition, I have a hard time planning healthy meals with the increased costs of produce over the last few years. I truly need your help in supporting my weight loss goal and establishing a long-term fitness plan. Thanks in advance for your support and I look forward to sharing information along the way.

Hi! Awfully quiet 'round these parts so I figured I would wake things up a little by introducing myself via the (almost) 20 questions method that I've seen some of the other people use here :-) Here goes!

Hi, I'm Chris. I've been on SparkPeople for years but I hardly used it; I ended up on a site called BuddySlim that was smaller and a bit easier to use, but BuddySlim is closing tomorrow so I am again back here; spent all day getting my trackers updated. :)

I've struggled with weight all my life; I was 185 pounds in the middle of high school, 205 in my senior year, 250 in my first year of college, 300 when I got married, 350 when my daughter was born, and over 400 in recent years. 12 years ago I lost 80 pounds low-carbing but couldn't keep it off; the pounds came back and brought friends. Several other attempts have failed when I couldn't get past plateaus.

I'm 42 now and something just snapped on March 26 and I just said "I'm tired of being fat. I'm DONE being fat." By now I was diabetic and my blood sugar was out of control. So I went back to basics, started hunting down and eliminating sugar, and so here we go again. Starting from my 393 weight on March 27th, I've only lost about 8 pounds but I've brought my blood sugar under control, stopped taking one diabetes med and cut another in half (under doctor supervision). It is hard, though, as no one else in my family will help and I am constantly faced with their poor food choices in my face.

Hi All:
I am new to SP and hoping that the programs here can help me achieve my weight loss goals. I know I am going to need a lot of encouragement and motivation. I live with my husband and one (over 18 yrs old) of my five children still live at home and they are both thin and love sweets and salty snacks which they bring home often and that proves to be a real challenge for me. Hi, I have been doing this off and on for a while now. My sister has lost 72 lbs. I had lost 25 and then got busy and lazy and gained 5 back. Now I am motivated again thanks to my sister and have lost 2 of those pounds.

I am from just outside of Mcbean. I work for a janitorial service as their office manager during the year and at a tax office preparing taxes the end of January to the middle of April.

I have a husband, daughter that is 10, and a 28 year old step-son at home. I am a grandmother of 5, going to be 6 in October. I have 2 sons that are 20 and 24, and 2 other step-daughters that are 21 and 30.

Hi all!! I am new to the group. I am fresh out of college (at the ripe age of 32) and I am 30 lbs overweight. I didn't realize teaching would be such a demanding job! I teach at Thomson High School in McDuffie County but I live in Martinez (Amelia Landing Subdivision).

Hey all,

I thought it was time to introduce myself after a little of the scepticism wore off. I am on the other side of the fence in the fact the I was active military stationed at Fort Gordon (Marines). I got out after 17 years and decided to keep my family in place here in Martinez. While I was in the military was a constant battle to keep the weight down. I would try all kinds of diets and passionately did all of them, Atkins, South Beach, Hollywood... It was an uphill battle. After I got out, I immediately put on another 30 lbs in a month! I took a job overseas as a contractor and found it pretty hard to maintain any sense of normalcy. I have been all over the world and on September 11th, 2006, while in Bosnia, I put the cigarettes for good! In another month, I gained another 30 lbs! I was cruising about 278 lbs and tried another diet called the Shangrila Diet by Seth Roberts... I soon lost interest in this one because of the inability to find the right olive oil...

Fast forward a little over a year... Getting winded tying your shoes is a little embarassing... So I tried to work out for almost three months, but lost interest after I showed little to no progress. It is easy for me to lose faith in something that shows little to no results. I started eating right and leaner... I dropped about 10 lbs in 6 months and was feeling pretty good... Not until I met up with a dietician that recommended this website did I see a chance to make a difference. I started counting calories and found it was easier to not eat something when I had to keep track of it...

Life is better.. I was at 265+ lbs when I logged infor the first time and on Saturday, I weighed in at 255.5!!! It has been a long time since I saw that weight.. I am grateful that I am 6' 2"... That size can hide some of the weight but it never hid the unhappiness.

I am working out again and doing an average of 30 mins a day... I am feeling better and already my gut is vanishing...

I will be home for good on the first of January and cannot wait to see the looks on the faces of my boys, ages 16 and 14, as well as my wife of nearly 18 years...

Martinez??? We hello neighbor.. I live in Moss Creek Off of Columbia... I am currently in Afghanistan and will be home on the 1st of January... This is a great program and it has already been working... Nice to meet you...

I have been working at it slowly. I've logged in almost every day. I am a teacher at a private school and we start Thursday night. My entire schedule will be changing and I need to make sure I don't stop this. I haven't found everything yet or I'll find it one night and not be able to get back. I work out at the Y and am doing physical therapy twice a week.

Hi I am also new to the groupemoticon I am very excited about having people in our area so we can keep each other motivated. My name is Carrie and I am a SAHM to my boys. About a year and a half ago my son, who was just 3,was diagnosed with Leukemia. We spent countless days and hours at the hospital. I would not want to leave my baby and the only option I had was McDonald's. I also gained about 60 pounds from stress! I am really trying hard to get this weight off! I pray that I am able to find a workout buddy here!!

AS you will soon learn this group isn't all that active, but many members are active on other groups or challenges. I am involved with a 5% challenge as well as my walking challenges. There are challenges for making you aware of drinking plenty of water, just to mention a few of the different challenges. The thing you all need to remember is that many members in this team belong to other teams and are active in challenges (I'm involved with the Holiday 5% Challenge) as well as other teams that they belong to. Sometimes when we are part of several teams it is not easy to post in every team we belong to.

I an the team leader of a team named EverythingChristmas that was started as an off shoot of a yahoo group for weight loss support. Well that team only has 8 members and they are not active at all.

Why don't we continue this in the team's Chat Room?

16. Have you set any longer term goals? If so, what are they: Besides losing almost 80lbs? I'd really like to get healthier, my body isn't happy so its difficult for me to be, I'd also like to feel more comfortable in social situations or just being out with my husband.

What motivates you and keeps you motivated: I've had difficulties with this up until the last two weeks or so, I joined a commmunity on LiveJournal.com of people who are looking to lose weight and those girls are awesome and super helpful. Other people are probably my biggest motivator, people to go to the gym with would be nice too.
18. What are 3 things you want us to know about you (feel free to give more): Oh boy, I'm incredibly lazy which is probably part of the reason weight loss is so difficult for me. I love my husband more than anything in the world, he truly completes my life. I'm an Army housewife, we don't have kids yet but I play mom to our two kittens.

I'd love to meet some other military wives to get to know and maybe we could all go to the gym together or something!!!!

Hey everyone! my name is michelle and I am a military wife who is desperately trying to loose weight and get healthy. I have 2 small children who sometimes pose a small challange to the excercising and I love to eat way too much which poses a greater challange to my weightloss quest. Welcome Sarah,

This group isn't all that active, but there are lots of other groups out there that are. Make sure you are drinking plenty of water and exercising. For me I tend to stick to walking / Gazelle workouts.

Many have lost weight here on SparkPeople so I feel sure that you will have some good results if you follow the recommendations.

My name is Sarah. I just joined Spark today. My husband and I do not currently live in Augusta yet but we're moving next weekend. I'm 19 years old and we don't have any children yet. When we got married I was a size 4 and am now a size 18. I know that being in a 4 again is unrealistic but I would like to see my feet again! Hello All!
I joined SP quite a few months ago when I first decided I should try to lose the baby weight. Unfortunately I haven't been very consistent about it. I'm hoping that be being more involved in a group, I'll want to come back to the page and remember to journal my food and my exercise. (All the things that I know help me lose weight when I remember to do them emoticon )
I am in the Navy, I have a 17 month old daughter and an amazing husband who happens to be in the Army.

15. Have you set any short term goals? To write in a journal almost every day and to stick with eatingout 1 time a month and to make dinner every night and eat right.

17. What motivates you and keeps you motivated: I motivate myself but honestly, I haven't found anything to keep me motivated.

Welcome Teri,

I look forward to getting to know you and give you a helping hand along the way in this weight loss journey.

You probably lost the weight when you were acting because you were eating less and keeping busy, in other words you were pre occupied with something else. As for the gain from the physical activity, that was most likely from adding muscle which is heavier than fat, but muscle burns more calories.

Good luck with your weight loss journey. We are all here working on the same goal.

Hello everyone. I am new to the Augusta area. Came here in December from Belgium..... I am a military spouse. My husband is in the army and is currently awaiting a school date to begin (which is in January). We should have only been here for 6 months, but due to injuries, we are here a little longer. Then, when he gets transfered around next summer time, I will have to stay here because I have a 15 year old son who will be a senior next year and I cant just move him in his last year of high school. I have two other children, both girls, 9 and 6. I am currently looking for a job, which has proven to be quite difficult here in Augusta!

I was once a size 12 in my adult life, but then I started having children and I havent seen that size since before my son was born. It has been a struggle for me to lose weight. I seem to yo-yo, although I do not mean for this to happen. I do not believe in diets, but in trying to eat healthy. Every time I think "DIET", I lose all my sense and seem to want to eat everything.

Working out has always been a hassle for me. I hate it. I do not enjoy working out. But, I did purchase a treadmill so that I would be able to work out whenever I wanted and not when I had to (gym times and all). So I hope that this site and you will motivate me to continue to work out.
I did notice that last year, when I was in Belgium, that I began to lose weight when I was acting in the local theater. I didnt try to, but it seemed to work somehow. I am now about 18 lbs lighter than I was a year ago, and not quite sure how that happened. I say this because when I was on a 7 month civilian fitness program that I ACTUALLY kept to the eating plan that was made for me by a nutritionist and I worked out for about 1 1/2 hours per day on a plan that was made for me by a physical trainer, I GAINED INCHES AND POUNDS!!!! This discouraged me, so I stopped working out totally. So it has been weird to see that acting has enabled me to lose weight and not the workouts that were designed specifically for me!

10. What are your strengths: Reading, Talking, Shopping on sales racks.
11. What are your weaknesses: sweets-ice cream in particular; clothes and shoes; getting emotionally charged at the drop of a hat
12. Are you currently using a weight loss program, i.e-South Beach, Weight Watchers: I have looked at many different programs but the meetings are always held at times that conflict with my work/home schedule.
13. What do you consider your fitness level: I have a membership to the Y but I only know how to operate 2 machines and I have difficulty staying motivated
14. What are your favorite active activities: I love to swim in the pool with my kids; walk around the neighborhood if I have someone to talk to while I'm walking
15. Have you set any short term goals? If so, what are they: My short term goal is to start a diet and stick to it. Also, drop at least 1 pants size before the end of the year.
16. Have you set any longer term goals? If so, what are they: Long term goal is to get down to a comfortable weight: 140-150 so that I can take a more active role in the kids lives.
17. What motivates you and keeps you motivated: I motivate myself but honestly, I haven't found anything to keep me motivated. I have times when I just don't feel like doing anything-including cleaning. I have a strong tendency to just eat whatever during those times. My boyfriend tries to help but I end of snapping at him even when he mentions the slightest thing.
18. What are 3 things you want us to know about you (feel free to give more): I am knowledgeable about what I need to do, I just don't have the constant motivation. I'm needy - I need support from people going through the same things as I am constantly. I am always looking for something to occupy my time - when I get bored, I overeat so most of the time the only other thing I think about is shopping so if I'm not overeating, I'm probably overspending.

Well just keep your eyes open and you just may see another posting for this position, especially if the trainees that we currently have don't pass their certification exams. I do expect at least 2 of them to pass the exam, don't really know that much about the 3rd so can't say anything there.

This position is a really great job. Although I must say that the county doesn't pay it's water treatment operators what they are really worth, but that's a totally different story.

As a water treatment operator, once one has passed the certification exam, you can go almost any place in the world. We have come to learn that if you want a really good salary for what we do you need to work at a smaller facility or a large one that wants to keep its operators so it pays a good wage.

I do feel special, because there aren't all that many females in this field, not that it is all that difficult of a job but because it traditionally has been a "male's" job.

looks like you work across the street from my husband, who works at the Utility Dept for water and sewer. That's real strange!He has been trying to get me into that field for a while now, but I know absolutely nothing about it. I had no idea they had any women working there in any field other than clerical. Score one for the girls' team and you!emoticonemoticon

Nice to meet you Gina.

My husband has a wonderful oncologist! If I ever need her services I won't hesitate for a minute. The non-Hodgkins is not my husband's only problem. He has numerous other health issues, with the major one being a really, really bad heart. So bad in fact that his doctors will not even consider putting him under the knife, unless it's one of those situations where he's going to die anyway and they might have a slim and I mean slim chance of saving him. He also has a spleen that is the size of a football / basketball. Normally they would remove a spleen like this but . . . . . . You get the picture. I am starting to get really concerned here lately. I'd like to see him stick around through the first of next year, but he is starting to look REALLY (with lots of emphasis) BAD!!!!

They did try him with one chemo infusion, but he had such a bad reaction and ended up in the hospital for a couple of days that his oncologist said it would not be a good idea to try anymore. There is another type for this but is much worse and he'd be pretty much out of it for a year, assuming he survived the treatments.

Hi there Linda... I am Gina I live in Grovetown with my husband and 11 year old son... Animals... we have 3 dogs, 1 cat, 4 ducks, 20 chickens and a horse...

My mother had Lymphoma when I was a teen.. I am not sure about the non-Hodgkins part.. I know that it was in stage 2... she took chemo and had surgeries... she lived for 18years.... a long and enventful life.. I will keep your husband in my thoughts...
