How I just joined again, I have done Sparkpeople in the past and I was very successful with it. But then I got sick, with the inactivity I started to gain weight again and now I want to lose it for good.

I noticed there hasn't been a team leader for awhile, is this an active team?

The only important thing in life, is right now. How I live right now will determine my tomorrow.

I'm re-introducing myself. I'm Lisa and I'm here on Sparkpeople to become healthier, learn all I can about health, nutrition and exercise and lose 140 lbs. I was told by my doctor that if I didn't lose weight and get my health back, I would end up dying in about 10-15 years. That scared the crap out of me so here I am! Its no longer a want, it's a NEED! So I guess I am reintroducing myself. I lost 60 lbs a couple of years back with the help of spark people. I recently finished a double major at the University of Utah and alas, put 20 lbs back on :/ So here I am :) I'm looking for new and healthy ways to lose the weight and keep it off and meet awesome new people along the way :)

Hi, I'm Tricia. I thought it might be time to poke my head out of my shell and meet some folks in my area. I grew up in the mid Atlantic region but have been in Utah about half my life. I blog a ton. I love to cook and eat healthy. I like the outdoors but don't get out as much as I wish to. I'm 42. And half Chinese. When I was a kid, people thought I looked different because my mom was from Utah. Well, that happened once in third grade.

I'm new to the group & will introduce myself a bit. I'm a Texan, born & raised, and I married a "Utah-boy" a few years ago. We have 2 boys & my hubby is currently in a graduate program at the U. I gained too much weight with both pregnancies, had to have a c-section with both, & currently have 50 lbs to lose in order to reach my goal weight. I look forward to getting back in shape & getting to know others who have similar goals :)

Hi, my name is Nusi (female) and joined yesterday. I live in South Salt Lake and I'm looking forward to finding people with the same goals as me... lose weight and exercise more (at least some in my case)
So far I've followed the nutrition plans for two days; it's been hard but I think I can force myself to stick to it. Although I know this weekend I'll be failing miserable since I'm going camping; I hope the extra exercise will counteract the bad eating habit & I figured 5 days on this diet were better than waiting until next week...

Hi Everyone!

I'm Kim. I've never really been active in this community, but what a better time than now! I've been a member of spark since 2009, I think. I took a year off while my body was growing my little son. He was born at the end of March and I've been slacking at getting my body back.

I started really cracking down about two weeks ago! I've lost about 5 pounds since then....I've got about 10 pounds to go.

I moved to Salt Lake from San Diego in 2007, got married in 2008, and I currently live in Sandy. I'm a breastfeeding mom to a 4 month old and I work full time. Finding time to exercise is HARD.

Hello. I'm re-introducing myself. I've been a member of Spark for quite some time and have come to the realization that I need friends to help support me along the way and for me to support them as well.

Is there anyone living in the Draper area? We have great hiking trails along the Porter Rockwell trail and walking/biking trails along a flat area. I know everyone has a crazy life but I'd like to know if anyone would like to get together once or twice a week? Thanks.

Hi all, my name is Karla, I have only been on this site for a week. During that week, I lost almost 4 pounds. Mostly by tracking my food... I wasn't the best at the working out part.

Today I made a goal to train my body so by June 2013 I can run in the Dirty Dash. 13.1 miles of muddy fun :)

I an an Independent Beachbody Coach who is one coaching for the discount and going through all the programs myself so I can help others relate to the different programs better.

I lost 12lbs in 4 weeks using the Ten Minute Trainer Deluxe w/Shakeology and 8lbs in 2 weeks doing 2x TMT-Deluxe workouts a day. It definitely works folks. Though I am moving on to Power 90, I know I will be keeping the TMT workouts close by for the days I have no time or am out on the road. I plan to also tackle P90X. P90X+, P90X2, Insanity and The Asylum.

Welcome Laurene,

This site can be overwhelming at first, but hang in there. There is something here for everyone! I would encourage you to start with tracking your nutrition and fitness minutes everyday.

Explore groups that have common interests, read blogs, and find reciepes that will work with the goals you have set for yourself.

This is not a quick fix diet program, I know this personally from yo yo weight gain/loss. What I like best about this site, is being able to track and hold myself accountable for the choices I make (or don't make) and no-one is here to pass judgement on others.

Lots of people to offer encouragement and share their stories.

Hi Clay,

What is the home Insanity program?? I'm going to have to google that and check it out!

Personally, I just signed up on Monday at Planet Fitness. I have gone all four days this week, and plan to go every day until my vacation on April 4th. Thats my plan of action at least for the next month!

I find that I work out best, longer, and feel more accomplished when I workout some where other than my own home. I guess the distraction of two kids always needing something, and it always interupting my workout, is just too much to keep me focussed.

Besides I like the "me" time I get while at the gym :)

Hi Everyone! My name is Lisa. I live in Bountiful and work at the U. I am over 50 and I have spent my entire adult life being calenged with weight and eating the right foods. When I was younger I loved to binge on cookies for breakfast and the chips and dip for lunch with a larger chaser of chocolate. As I have gotten older I no longer do the self destructive eating thing but still make poor choices. Hi! My name is Holly. I live in the Murray-Holladay area with my cat. I am trying to get my weight under control after years of having significant knee injuries (not being able to exercise much) and not using good portion control. I also have just recently found out that I am gluten-intolerant so I have been living the gluten-free life for the past 4 weeks now.

I've been reading over the posts and was glad to learn I'm not the only on again, off again Spark Person around. I've recently been making some changes to my life and wanted to keep track of goals and progress, then remembered SP! It's been a pleasant evening cruising around here, re-familiarizing myself with how things work.

I'm a 47 year old wife/stepmom in West Jordan. I work in a call center doing benefits administration. That pays the bills. My passions are family history and photography. I'm also a fitness instructor for a great activity called Nordic Walking. My downfall is that I'm a sedentary creature by habit and my biggest challenge is getting out of the house! But, I'm determined to get in the habit, lose all this extra weight, and concentrate on being healthy! Anyone looking for a walking buddy? Or do we have a walking group inside this group?

Hi I live in West Valley City and back in 2008 I lost about 60 pounds using Sparkpeople, no where near I needed to be. But I felt great, exercising every day and was training to be a Beginner Triathlete.

Then I started working a lot of over time because I had so much energy. Then I stop exercising, slowly going back to my old ways.

I got sick last year and I had nothing to do all day and started baking cookies and it was batch after batch. And because I was on pedisone (basically a steroid doctors use), I really packed on the weight. When I heard friends say how big I was getting, I slammed on the breaks, started being careful about what I ate. Mostly just three meals a day. This stopped me from going up to where I was. I even had a stationary bike I was riding every day. I had started back at SparkPeople, buying alot of items in the store, but I was not tracking my weight, then I stopped exercising after my back was hurt and I stopped again.

I had signed on to sparkpeople at least 3 times in the last year. Then I canceled and closed the account every time. This last time I opened a new account and swore I would not close it. I knew I would keep getting the e-mails, I felt they were like little reminders, like my bike being in the living room.

Now only about a week and a half ago, I started riding my bike every day, doing some Wii exercise. Then keeping track on sparkpeople. Shortly after that I started to track my food. Then I did a spark page.

Now I am doing my a post. I just want it to work for me, again.

One pound lost, is one step up in happiness and self awareness.

The more I learn the less I know.

Hi everyone. I'm Cathy and I live in Salt Lake City. I joined Spark People in January and had a great 2 days on the site before I was totally overwhelmed. Haha. I've been back for a week and it is going much better this time. I have taken the time to figure out what I am doing and I am SO MOTIVATED right now. I'm afraid of the day the motivation disappears again, but hoping I will learn enough to get past this and all the other hurdles before me.

hello everyone :)
started & stopped using the site a few times now, trying to stick to it this time for sure
just trying to slim down a bit & get into shape like most everyone else here.
i work full time & do school part time, come fall that will switch. school full time work part time. it keeps me busy but makes it hard to plan meals ahead of time & stick to a workout routine. any tips you have found would be very helpful.

Hi everyone, this is my re-introduction.
I first joined this website over 3 years ago, before I got married, when I was trying to get weight off for my wedding. I got wrapped up in our new life together and didn't come back to this website until almost 2 years later, when I joined under this username. Ever since, I have come back to this website on and off but never seriously used it until now.
I never had a real support system but recently, DH has decided he wants to build more muscle so we bought some equipment and he has been a huge support in eating healthy and working out. My parents and younger sister are also on board so I have a lot of support around me this time and I can tell the difference..this time is for real. I have been back on the website for about a week and a half and I am looking forward to getting rid of my extra weight and changing our lifestyle together.

Hi there,

I just joined Spark People and I am looking forward to losing all of the weight I gained since meeting my husband :). It was much easier for me to manage my weight as a single gal, but once I found the one- it seems he brought an additional 25-30 lbs with him. My husband and I both love to cook, but he has trouble being careful with ingredients and portion since he has never had to worry about it. It has been almost 5 years since we met and I think he might finally be ready for some training. If anyone has some suggestions for getting his view of food in line with mine, it will be greatly appreciated!

Hi, fellow salt lakers. I'm Emily, a 27yr old with 2 kiddos as well looking to lose 30lbs once and for all! I lost a lot of good healthy habits with "growing up". After I got married, became a mom and went through nursing school my eating habits and work out habits had done a 360 :( I am trying hard to keep busy and get my head back in the game. I can be quite the emotional eater, or just bored eater. I did weight watchers last year with my mom and learned a lot of great things. I lost 15lbs.with the program then my husband lost his job and I couldn't justify paying the money to them anymore. I'm so happy I discovered this site. I joined SP the beginning of January '11, and I'm really looking forward to making some changes with such great resources on the site. I'd love to make friends with you guys and motivate each other to do great things! Best of luck to you guys!

Hello, I am 27, married to an awesome hubby, I'm a stay at home mommy of 2 little boys,I am addicted to food, and I want a healthy lifestyle for myself and my family. I joined SP around Oct. 2010, I started out great and took a trip to Disneyland and all went down hill from there, then with the hollidays, I just ate and ate, and kept using the excuse "tomorrow". I would try and fail all in the same day, I avoided this site, then I decided New Years was gonna be my weightloss/lifestyle resolution, well, that day came and went and then on the 3rd I decided to hop on the scale and see just how much damage I had done, I was at 178 my highest weight ever not being prego, I can't say I was shocked since I was stuffing myself into my clothes, but I knew I couldn't ignore it anymore. I've been back since the 7th, and I'm starting off slow, my biggest issue is food, so I'm starting there, I've lost 3.5 lbs and trying to use the mind frame "one day at a time", I'm used to looking at how long it's going to take to be where I want and I get frustrated with it and fail. I am also trying to be more active on this site, this is my first post on any team... so yeah, that's me, I hope to find inspiration as well as give.

I'm new. I just signed up and, probably like a lot of people, am starting a new healthy living program this year. I have an ambitious weight loss goal for the summer. I hope to find buddies, inspiration, motivation, etc. here.

Justin, I'm not a vegetarian, but I LOVE Morningstar Farms veggie sausage patties. I had always stuck my nose up at fake meat, but I was looking for a healthy alternative to breakfast sausage and it is awesome!

I have been a vegiterian since June 2010.
I use these often!

Veggie Crumbles (morning star brand)
-I use to make tacos and spaghetti

Sausage Patties with mapple (morning star brand)
-I make omelets, and breakfast burritos


I eat alot of egg whites, and cottage cheese to make sure I get the protein I need. I also do protein shakes a few times a week.

My biggest advise, especially if you still have weight to lose, is not to subsitute with a lot of carbs. Alot of carbs never do anyone any good! :)

Hi there,
I'm new here (fitting day considering it's NYE LOL) and I can't wait to get healthy.
A little about me:
I'm 40 years old
I am a single mother to 3 great kids ages 17,16 and 12.
I am a full time student at SLCC trying to become a medical coder and biller. Only 5 months left YAY!
I work part time for Granite School District as a Behavior Specialist. I am ready for a change. It's a depressing and sad job most of the time.
I have struggled since my husband walked out on my kids and I am feel I am now finally ready to accept the new me and get healthy and strong again.

I look forward to getting to know people who live in the SLC area. I live in the Holladay area.

Hi, my name is Susan
It was fun to read your messages and think it's kind of cool to have our own group! I live in a condo in Downtown Salt Lake City. I'm looking out big windows from a dark room. Lots of clouds looking like they want to rain, but nothing yet.
I lost 40 pounds on SP several years ago and have gained back 20; so.....I'm marking off 10 pounds at a time. I have a lung disease that has no cure and no meds to slow it down....so you can see why I take things in small bites. I was diagnosed a year and a half ago and I'm still active and smiling. Why not?!
I'm signed up to start a pulmonary rehab class at the University Hospital and I'm really excited.I look forward to having more stamina although I keep pretty active thanks to my supplemental oxygen. Have oxygen....Will travel!
I don't have a scale at home so will only weigh in at the rehab clinic. Tracking most of the time 'cause that helps me eat healthy food and a balanced diet.

Marsha here again. My September goal is to lose ten pounds. It's not that crazy - because i had gained back some weight I lost in April.
So my goal is SepTENber - lose ten pounds. . weigh every ten days.
To achieve this goal I do aerobics every day, and I walk.. . and of course I stay within my calorie range.. and drink a lot of water.

Hey, just because I'm curious, what are all of your short-term goals? I see lots of long-term weight-loss goals, but I've always thought it was important to set little goals to keep yourself motivated in between!

Mine is stretching out my hamstrings enough that I can put my palms on the ground. Right now, I can only touch my fingertips to the floor. I want to do this so that Pilates becomes more doable for me!

Hello everyone!
I was referred by my aerobics teacher, and I love the sight! I love the idea of talking to other people with fitness goals.
I'm overcoming a serious illness that kept me in bed for three months, and I'm so grateful to be back to exercising. Before I was sick, I was a dedicated dancer, and I'm hoping to get back to my fitness level.
Unlike many members of this sight, my goal is to gain weight. I'm 19, 5'5", and I weigh about 100 pounds. I'd love to build some muscle and become a healthy weight that can support my lifestyle.
Also, I'm on a vegan diet for my health at the moment, and it's sometimes hard for me to get in everything I need. I love that the program shows me how much of everything that I'm eating!
I can't wait to get to know all of you!

Hi! I'm Sandy. I live in Layton with my wonderful husband and 3 active boys (13, 10, 7). It's taken several years, but I've lost over 60 pounds. Lately I've been maintaining in the 140's but really want to get down into the 130's.

We have a busy house, but the kids know that exercise is just part of a normal day. It's scheduled just like any other event. My latest scheduling masterpiece had me convincing my youngest son's soccer coach to hold practice at a field that has a half-mile walking trail around it. I can get in a few miles during practice!

I'm going to be running a 5k on 9/11 and am looking forward to training to run another half marathon in the next year or so.

Hi, I'm Jamie. I just joined yesterday and I'm still trying to figure out how it all works. Earlier this year I joined the local fitness center, hired a person trainer for 5 sessions and was working our regularly. I was really enjoying it which was a surprise because I am not at all athletic and I have never enjoyed exercise. But having my husband gone all the time with work and kids who didn't want to go to the gym's fitness center made me eventually stop going. I am so disappointed in myself for always quitting what I start. I am the heaviest I have ever been and I really need to make some big changes in my life. I hope that I can really do it this time.

I'm Lynette and I live in South Salt Lake with my 14 year old cat. I've lived in Salt Lake since I was in first grade and grew up about a mile and a half from where I now live.

I've been overwieght for much of my adult life, but I used to be quite active in my youth and early 20's. It started out slow, then the wieght kept piling on. I peaked at 290 pounds, when I started going back to the gym.

I guess that it was going to the Biggest Loser casting call back in March which made me decide to get serious about doing something. There were about 1500 people who showed up and I was right in the middle, around 780'th in line. It took 8 hours waiting in freezing temperatures to get into the door. In that time, some people in line near me were chowing down on meals which had to have upwards of 3000 calories from the local fast food place, or ordering pizzas, guzzling buckets of soda pop, and smoking.

I thought about going home, because it seemed rather remote that I would see anything come of this, but since I'd already spent so much time I waited it out, but resolved I was going to work as hard as I imagined they did on the show. In the end I got to spend a few short minutes with 15 others and a casting person answering the bare basics: name, age, weight, what would you do with the money.

After my temporary babysitting stint came to an end I started going to the gym on June 11. Since then I've missed only 5 days. I've dropped to 267.9 pounds.

My gym time is divided between the Sugarhouse and Murray 24 Hour Fitness. Why? Well Sugarhouse is close, but very crowded; I've been going to Boot Camp on Thursday nights and Water Aerobics on Monday and Wednesday nights. After 3:00 in the afternoon it can be difficult to get a lane to swim in, which is why I went to the Murray location. I started Boot Camp there first (on my second day back). I soon discovered that the air conditioning vent blows on the treadmills and ellipticals 3 out from the center and I would stay on much longer. And since it's not so compact I spend much longer stretching and doing non machine exercises. One day I actually spent 6 hours!

So I concluded that if I wanted a short workout I'd hit Sugarhouse, but if I wanted a long one, I'd go to Murray.

I'm trying to get back into hiking, but I've been unable to go for the last 2 weeks because of injuries. I'm thinking of trying another hike sometime in the next few days.

I live in the Bountiful area and started my fitness journey a few years ago. I hated every second of exercise and loved fast food. Now I'm an exercise junkie and I love, love running. Currently I'm training for my second half marathon on September 25.

Also, in my fitness journey I learned to love cooking. Now when I go out to eat I'm very picky about where I go because now I know what food should taste like!

Exercising and eating healthy are very important parts of me now and I love, love who I've become. All the sweat, sore bod and tears are definitely worth it. I still have a little chub but I don't worry about that, my focus is being happy & healthy.

Hi, I'm Rachel. I am 22 years old. I am married and I have 2 children. My son Landon is 4 and my daughter Brielle is 11 months. We live in the Kearns/taylorsville area. I am looking to get back to my pre pregnancy weight of 150 by November. I have just finished my first round on the hCG diet and I lost 25.2 pounds and I am going to do another round next month. I realize what what works for some might not be for others but this diet works great for me. I am pretty new to spark people but I love the hcg support group and I am so glad I joined spark people! I am also hoping to get more involved with other groups as well!

My name is Sharifa. I live in Midvale with my husband and almost-three year old son. While I was pregnant with my son I gained 50 lbs and then another 20 after I had him. I came across SparkPeople shortly after I had my son but I haven't spent much time on it. Recently, however I have been motivated enough to stay active on here. I have recently reached my goal of getting back to the weight that I was right after I had my son and now I have about 40 more lbs to lose! Hello to all you SLC Sparkers -
I ran across and joined Spark People in May 2009, but have not really used it much.
I am doing the "re-commitment" thing. I bought the SPARK book and now need to read it and get serious about changing my life and lifestyle.

I am Sheila and I live in West Jordan with my hubby and son and two dogs. I have lost 51 pounds with Weight Watchers. Did this in a year. I have stopped Weight watchers as I cannot afford it anymore. I want to see if I can do it on my own and with the help of Spark. I want to lose 30 more. I am excited to see we have a new leader!

Hello! My name is Alicia and I live in West Jordan. It's just me, my boyfriend, and our cat. I found Spark in 2007 through a message board on Self.com. I have been hooked ever since. I am on spark to lose 10 lbs and maintain a healthy lifestyle. I am excited to see some activity on this team!
