When I joined sparkpeople, I was about 30 pounds overweight and finally got sick of the steady upward trend in my body fat (I was NOT gaining muscle weight). I tracked my food and discovered that I allowed myself unlimited amounts of what I considered "healthy food" and my first big discovery was that 1500 calories of carrots and hummous is still 1500 calories. I NEVER binged like that with "junk food." I made small changes I could live with permanently, eventually added running and weight training, and am now maintaining my weight and still growing my fitness. I like what my leaner, stronger body can do.

Last year I lost a total of 32lbs over the course of the year without any type of dieting, not as good as many people my weight, but I have accepted it and am now quite happy about it. What did I do? I started observing people with normal relationships with food and started reading up on the topic. I am now treating food more like food, and I am more and more working with the reasons why I eat. I eat everything under the sun too, no restrictions for me! lol

Welcome to the team! I've been on this path for almost 6 years now - I'm SO much healthier than I was 6 years ago. So happy I started this. I'm not perfect and am keeping on the path but I'm in a much better place. My goals are to work out 5x a week as my schedule will allow - some weeks it is 6x and sometimes it it 3x but it is part of my life. I love walking and try to do that while the weather works - or I have an elliptical for the bad weather days.

I am 5' 9" and would like to meet you all and see how your weightloss is going. I have finally left the 16 size and slipping into the 14's. Still wear the 16 around the house but much too baggy to wear out! Hope your weightloss is going well. Would love to hear how much you have lost and how. What is your goal? And what type of exercise you do.
How much and how-- have lost 18.5 pounds in 3 years (I know, but I'm patient!) I have been cooking healthy, not eating out as much as I did, and exercise every single day. Also, when I'm full, I'm done!
Goal -- to be below a 25 bmi and be healthy
Exercise-- I walk, mostly. But also workout on the recumbent bike, total gym and elliptical trainer.
