Hello Glenda,
I'm one of your team leaders. Just wanted to welcome you and congratulate you on your move to Corona. It's a wonderful town with lots of athletic opportunities, too. There are a number of resources to inquire about local events. For walking, there is the 100 Mile Club, which started by encouraging elementary school students to walk or run 100 miles in a school year. Now, many families are involved, and there are family walk/run events every week on multiple days around town. There is also a 5k coming up just after the new year, it's hosted by the Riverside Road Runners, and it is called the Citrus Heritage Run. In addition, the group meets weekly with pace groups varying from slow walkers to fast runners.
Best of luck to you and your family, and I hope you find encouragement through the various means around town and online.

Hi Corona Sparkers!
My name is Glenda, I am brand new to Corona, just moved here from New Orleans, LA and boy is it an adjustment! Everyday when I walk outside, I am absolutely amazed to see the surrounding mountains, I am not used to such scenery. Back in LA, there is zero elevation, no hills, completely flat. So hiking / biking up Skyline has been quite a challenge, but a beautiful change of pace. I am 30 years old, married to a man who seems to have a natural abundance of energy and endurance and we have spawned a daughter (6yr) who has inherited this gift from him. I am the slowest of the pack, no matter what we do. I'm hoping to be more active and build more endurance so I can keep up with my adventurous family. I despise running, but I love fun runs ( Warrior Dash, Zombie Runs, etc). I must have a goal / race to train for or else I will not go. I recently purchased a mountain bike and am ready to do some trail riding. I also enjoy playing tennis. I am hoping to find some fun activities to keep me on track and maybe even some fun people to do them with. I don't know anyone here, and would love to meet some new friends. :)

I am the Fitness Coach for Lighten Up Corona. I started my weight reduction & journey to better health in May, 2008, when I joined a biggest loser challenge. In 3 months, I shrank by 50 lbs., then went on to do my 1st half marathon, at Disneyland, with the help of my friend Tammy, MarathonMom26.2 and others. Over the rest of the year, I dropped another 46 #, and eventually compiled a list of 100 ways I had rid myself of 100 pounds. This was accomplished by changing 2 habits a week, compounded every week with another 2 lifestyle changes, for a whole year.

In Sept. 2009, I coached the first group for my Big Loser contest. I've since taught over 1,000 people in the greater Corona Valley region to "move more, eat less" with 100 tips for shedding 100 pounds.

YOUR Coach, SoL Shapiro

PS: To answer the most recent post, and offer this forum my first official tip, I'll share this:
When you're on a weight reduction journey, and someone else in your family or household has cravings that are on your "off-limits" list, please ask them to support your efforts by keeping their "treats" in a separate area, out of your line of site and away from easy reach. For example, they could store these items in their car trunk or at least in the garage, where you're less likely to venture "by accident" past those foods that like to call your name.

Hello all,
I'm new to this site, not new to dieting!
I'm encouraged by the success stories I've been reading here and hope to make my weight loss and "health gain" a permanent one this time.
I'm 48 yrs of age, and have a goal of 100 lbs to lose. My current weight is at an all-time high, even more than when I was 9 mos pregnant! I am more determined than ever before to lose it. My "aha" moment was on a recent airplane trip, where I was mortified to have to ask for a seatbelt extender. I swore to myself "NEVER again!"
I have joined a local gym and am trying to cleanse my kitchen of all the unhealthy choices. Difficult with a boyfriend who definitely has a sweet tooth! I hope to get him involved with my journey
I hope to get to know more about you all!
best of luck to you and me
M

Welcome Menscoe!!

75lbs lost is amazing!! Good for you jumping back on the wagon! Do you strictly do Sparkpeople and watch what you eat or do you do any other programs? I am a weight watchers member, lost 35lbs last year but have gained most of it all back :( I am struggling getting back on the wagon...
Do you have a gym membership here in Corona?

Hello All...
I am not new to this site - however I am new to this group. I've been using Sparkpeople for about 15months and have lost 75lbs as a result. Over the last 5 months or so I have been waffling and sinking back into my old ways...which has caused me to gain back 10 of my 75.
I am back now to pick-up where I left off - 20lbs to go and no going back! emoticon

Welcome!
I am new to this site and have found it to be very helpful! I wish you strength on your journey! Im a foodie too. It has been helpful for me not to deprive myself of anything, but just have very small portions of the decadent stuff! Deprivation just leads to meltdowns. Hope to "see" you around!

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah. I joined spark people last year and didn't take advantage of all this site offers but I am commited now. I want to lose about 19 pounds before my 20th birthday in August so I feel more confident and in shape my last year as a teen. I hope you all are doing well on your goals and I can't wait to talk to people from Corona in the same mindset as I am.

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Jen and I am a teacher here in Corona. I just had my second baby 6 months ago and I am ready to now reach my fitness goals! I am hopeful that this site and your support will help me get there. I would like to drop 30 #s by my son's birthday in June, a reasonable goal, I think. I hope to focus not only on being fit for myself, but for my two boys as well. I want them to grow up learning about a healthy lifestyle. I look forward to meeting all of you and supporting you too!!

Hi I joined over a month ago and then didn't do anything. It was a little overwhelming and I wasn't sure what to do. I have just started tracking my eating and just playing around with the site. Looks like a good thing, once I get it all figured out. I am hoping to drop 30lbs. Not the best time to start right before my birthday and the holidays, but I CAN'T keep putting it off.

Hi Amy and Ericka, and welcome to the Corona Sparkers! I think you'll find lots of great info on this website but it can be a bit overwhelming at first. I started by using the nutrition and fitness trackers, and checked out various team message boards. Eventually I bonded with people from the teams I was posting on and have met many of them in real life!

I hope that you will spend some time just get acquainted with the site and all it has to offer, and feel free to post on my page anytime you have a question or just want to chat!

Hi, my name is Ericka & I live in Eastvale/Corona on the other side of Norco. In the past 13 wks, using another weightloss website I have lost 25 lbs. A friend told me about this site & so I cancelled my membership & can't wait to start learning how to use this one & meet new friends to keep me motivated & accountable. I have hit a plateau though. So, I need a boost to start loosing another 25 lbs. I go to bootcamp 4x/wk & I try & walk 4-5x/wk. I have 4 kids so I get a little overwhelmed with trying to focus on myself while trying to take care of them & my household. But, I'm trying & learning to work it all in. Hope everyone is having a great day! It will be a beautiful & warm day here in Corona! Looking forward to seeing some blue skies. :)

Hi I'm Amy. I've already lost over 50lbs through diet alone. I'm currently implementing a workout routine to get the remaining 30-40lbs I'd like to lose gone, as well as tone up a bit. :) Just started using this site about a month ago.

Hi Andrea, nice to "meet" you! As a tall woman myself I think I can relate to where you're coming from. Did you always get told "you're tall, you can carry your weight so well" or some variation of that? My problem was that I started to believe it, which didn't do me any good. Luckily I've turned that around!

Are you working out anywhere? Have you checked out the Nutrition and Fitness trackers here on SparkPeople? They were the first things I used when I joined over 2 years ago and they were so helpful!

Let me know if I can help you in any way emoticon

My name is Andrea and have lived in Corona since I was 13 years old. I am now married with an 11-month old son. For as long as I can remember, I have had weight issues. As a woman over 6 feet tall, I can't even remember when I was less than 200 pounds. I mean I can, I was in 9th grade and I weighed 178. I was running every day and playing softball and in pretty good condition, and my mom told me I need to lose 18 more pounds. For my body shape, that seemed impossible. Anyway, now as a mom, I see my son eating all these nutritious foods and I know the day will come when he will eat the same meals that my husband and I eat, and I want that to be a good thing. My son is already really long and "solid" and I know he's going to be a "big boy" because both of his parents are tall, but I don't want him to battle the way I've had to battle. I want him to have memories of us playing together and not eating terrible foods in front of the TV. Other than that, I'm a middle school teacher and I love it!

Hello, and Welcome to the Corona Sparkers! Rather than have a whole lot of threads with only one or two posts I've started this thread as the place to go to introduce yourself to the team. I look forward to meeting you!
