Welcome, Honeybadgers. This is a very warm and comforting group of people---all of us dealing with the same difficult issues. I have received a lot of help from the forum. I think our meds (at least I think MY meds) contribute to some of our weight issues---but thank God we do have the meds! It may be a little harder to conquer the side effects, but I am sure that with continued effort---and each other---- we will be successful. Welcome and good luck! emoticon

Hello,

Not that I wish this condition on anyone, but its nice to know there are others out there with HOCM trying to get or stay fit and healthy along with me. I was diagnosed a little over 3 years ago. I went running in the park chassing my kiddos around, dh called to order barbeque, I ran inside to pick it up and my heart stopped right in the middle of the restaurant. After a ton of testing and being transferred to a different hospital I was diagnosed and got an AICD.

I also take medication and feel like if I'm not careful with what I eat exercising a lot it causes me to gain wweight.

Hi Everybody,
I too have HOCM and am struggling very hard with weight issues. I also get very nervous when I exercise, so I know I'm not doing nearly as much as I should. My dr. keeps speaking about surgery, and, of course, I'd like not to go that route if possible---
I'm so glad that I found all of you. Thank you (literally) from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks so much for the kind thoughts. I pray my little one doesn't inherit my condition, but we are years away from finding that out. As for me, I'll talk to my doc more in January about myectomy. Of course, I would prefer not to have surgery, but there is a chance I could be fixed for good...

Hi all! I just joined the team today. I was diagnosed with Hypertrophic Obstructive Cardiomyopathy about 7 years ago. It wasn't much of a problem for me thanks to meds. I was even allowed to get pregnant in 2010. However, I went into a-fib 7 months in and baby and I had to be shocked. We are both well now. Or, she's great and I am still medicated. I have occasional issues, though and the doc has mentioned myectomy. I hope that weight loss will help me out, and maybe put off surgery for a while. Nice to meet you all!
