Hello! I was born in 1981 with TGV...I had the Mustard procedure! I've never talked to anyone else with this heart condition, and I am very interested in hearing how you all are doing. I also have a pacemaker that was originally implanted in 1995. I have had it replaced twice. I am doing really well...go for my yearly appointments at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia/University of Pennsylvania Adult Congenital Program. I have had the same cardiologist wince the day I was born! I also made it beautifully through 2 pregnancies :) I am actually healthier when I'm pregnant, but no more babies...they're expensive! Anyway, I'm sorry to have rambled on, but I'm very excited to have found this team and this group in particular. Hope to keep in touch!

Nancy :)

Sarah and Katie:

I have to say I beat both of you. I was born in 1968 with Transposition of the Great Vessels. I had what they called a Mustard procedure in 1970. Technology has gotten much better. Right now I am one of the rare survivors. You both are very lucky to be born in the 1980's!! My goals are also to loose weight-of course but also to improve my balance and endurance.

Hey, I was also born with TGV, only in 1982, so they didn't have the technology for an arterial switch. Instead, I had the senning procedure. I've got similar goals to yours - losing weight to relieve pressure on my heart. Good luck!

Hi everyone! My name is Katie & I live in Maryland. I was born in 1987 with Transposition of the Great Vessels. When I was a few hours old I had a balloon septostomy & then when I was a week old I had the arterial switch operation. Somehow that surgery made my sternum collapse, so the summer before I turned 7 I had surgery to correct that.

I know my weight is a factor on my heart & that my heart would be much happier if I finally got down to a healthy weight.

Like other people, I am limited when it comes to activity. I can't do any running & a lot of weight lifting makes me ill. Basically, I stick to some low impact aerobics and do strength training with my own body weight as resistance.

Good luck everyone!
