Hi, I'm a new member. :) I've been married for nearly seven months. My husband is excited because he's finally started to gain some weight. I tell him that's because I'm a good wife. ;) Of course, I'm trying to lose before we start having children. It's a weird combination: he needs to eat a lot, and I need to cut back; he doesn't need to exercise much (he has a really high metabolism), and I need to increase my exercise.

Peace & Blessings!

Yes I got the volcano done now I just have to do the explosion part and make sure I have that done right. We are supposed to get some snow tomorrow night and kind of hope we do because I would like Sarah to get to see it and see her reaction as well.

Well done on the exercising front!

*sigh* about the busy-ness for you already.

But, I join you in praising God for a clear test result for your mother. *Phew*! What a relief, I bet.

Sorry to hear that Christopher is having problems with bullies at school. My good friend had the same situation with her son. She discovered that things were more problematic than bullies, though, and she took him out of school to home-school him. (she found out he had all sorts of learning problems as well).

I hope you and the teacher are able to work things out for his sake (and your worry!).

Did you get the volcano finished?

This year already seems just as busy as the previous one. This week mom and to have a heart cath to check and make sure she had no blockages due to some problems she has been having and praise God all turned out well. Had to help Mikayla build a volcano for school to take next week. Christopher was having problems with bullies in school again and problems also with a teacher as well so I had to go and handle that yesterday. I hope your new year is starting off slower than mine. I got a couple of days of exercising in though so better than the week before.

Hello all and hope you all had a great Christmas. I am trying to get my house back in some order with all the presents the kids received and also myself trying to get back into my exercising once again. I am trying to fit it all in and hope maybe I can get back to losing. The New Year is around the bend and wish you all a Happy one. I am trying to get jump started and did me a workout today. I wish all of you best of luck on losing this new year.

Hello all and been busy trying to get Christmas done and all the things I have to do. Last weekend was a Christmas parade and delivering fruit baskets to the elderly in our church with the kids. Your right about the eating CJ and that's all I seem to be doing. Once I get things in order I am hitting back on the trail and getting the weight back off. One thing is at least my kids have really enjoyed it all and it was worth it for all the kids at church to have a good time. This Sunday is our singing special for Christmas so finally I can settle down and finish buying what I need for Christmas presents. Take care all and sounds like your all doing well. Congrats on spending time with the hubby and having a hard time with that myself with all the things going on. Merry Christmas all and have a Happy New YEar.

What a wonderful revelation! I'm so glad you made the effort - sometimes, that little extra nudge to ourselves, even when we least feel like it, can make all the difference.

Good for you!

Thanks for sharing it with us as well. It's a good reminder for all of us.

Just have to post to say that I'm proud of myself for making an extra effort with my husband yesterday. He and I have been having rough patches lately. We work opposite shifts, so i'm usually asleep when he comes home. But last night, I made the effort to stay up so we could have some time together. I think it made a big difference to him. Apparently, sometime it's not ALWAYS his fault. lol

Sorry about your foot/knee, Sam. Hope the doc can help out with that.

We've done nothing to prepare for Christmas yet - except for purchasing our staff party tickets, and donating gifts and food items for food hampers.

Ugh. Food intake. Me too.
Maybe a food or nutrition challenge? Would that be helpful?

Oh, I hope all that running around does pay off on the scale for you, but you're right, it does seem to not work that way - usually we grab fast food or not-so-healthy choices when we're busy.

Hang in there.
I will pray that in the midst of your busy-ness, you are able to find some peace this advent season.

Well my party was a big hit with the kids and relaxed after it but yesterday was another run day and Mikayla had a birthday party last night for her friend up the road then after that was back home to make sausage balls for the ladies Christmas party today at church. CJ I don't see an end in sight anytime soon. Monday night is my sister's birthday party then Tuesday is the kids Christmas singing at school then Saturday is delivering fruit basket with the kids from church to our elderly members then off to buy our Angel tree bags with the kids. Maybe next week during the week things will settle down. Busy, busy, busy and maybe I will drop a few pounds with all the running but not likely. Have a good week.

Well today is my Christmas Party for my kids and almost all is done. I still have to go and get more table cloths of red and green to finish up the fellowship hall of the church and a few extra minute decorations to finish as well but looking good and ready to get the party going. Then tomorrow it will be getting a present for Mikayla's friends birthday party and going to it between 4:30 to 6:30 then Sunday it will be going to church them back by 4:30 to practice on our Christmas program. Maybe starting Monday I can slow down during my week if I am lucky. Well off to get kids ready for school.

Hello all and been MIA once again. I have been busy with helping out my cousin plan her Mom's 50th birthday party then my sister and brother in law also had their's then this past weekend was my anniversary and Christopher turned 11 and still thinks he knows more than his Dad and I. I am also planning a Christmas party for the young kids of our Church with another lady so needless to say I am staying covered up. Sarah is growing by leaps and bounds and is now 17 months and getting into lots of mischief. She takes ornaments off the tree daily and runs with them because she know she will get into trouble for it. I will try to catch up with everything and will try my best to stay caught up.

Hey Sam! I'm doing some catching up as well.

Well done on the party - that's a great deal, getting $500 of merchandise to pick out!

I hope you have more days of pain-free dancing, I know you love it so.

My weight is also creeping up, that's the same reason I joined the new year challenge!

My friend is feeling poorly with her second round of chemo. Her nausea is better thanks to some good drugs, but she has a cold at the same time, so is being bothered by sore ears and dizziness.

My kids volleyball teams are winding up now, with my younger dd only having one game left on Tuesday. They all start basketball as soon as the volleyball finishes. *sigh* It's hard chauffering them to all their games and practises! I am glad they are healthy and active, though, so must not complain.

Have a good week, everyone.

This chat has been pretty quiet. I've been trying to catch up on Spark this weekend. I have tons of emails.

It has been busy. I had a Sipalda party last Friday. I earned $500 on free jewelry, so it was fin choosing my pieces. A friend at school sells the jewelry, so I had the party for her. Boy, it paid to do that.

Looks like we are going to a buffet with my friends extended family. My friend will be out of town with her children and husband's family. Anyway, we will go to the buffet at the local casino then come back here for dessert.

Tonight is the Night of Giving at a local mall. It is a great fundraising event. Local charities sell the wristbands and keep all the profit. The mall stays open after hours and only people with a band are allowed to shop. Plus there are special deals. I hope to get some more Christmas shopping done.

Dance is going ok. Some days my knee hurts, others it is fine. It is frustrating!

My weight is creeping u, so I ma joining the New Year/s Challenges to see if I can take some of it off before the New Year.

That's the news on my end.

I hope everyone is doing well.

You have a lot on your plate....
I have a student in my class with classic ADD. Our counselor did a time on task study. She was on task 33% of the time; her peers were on task 80-85% of the time. No wonder she is having trouble, especially with questions that require writing a complete answer in several sentences. She can't stay focused that long. Don't know if the parents are going to talk to her doctor or not. I can help her some, but I can't make up for that type of deficit with 26 other students. I have a couple of other strugglers, plus I have a cluster group of high ability students, who I ma required to keep challenged at least in Language and Math. Now that my student teacher is gone I am the only one in the classroom. It will be a challenging year for me. I just feel bad when at the end of the day, I know how little I've gotten to interact with each student. Oh well, I can only do the best I can. It seems that most of my parents are pretty supportive. I had 11 chaperons on my field trip. That is an awesome amount!

The weather is nice. I need to leave soon to walk for a state Representative running for office in a tight race. He has been education friendly for a long time. I'm afraid his opponent will go along with our Governor who is anti public education.

Well, I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I hope you are all enjoying weather like our. If you have rain, send it our way. We're down 7 inches.

I email Mikayls speech teacher weekly to make sure Mikayla is doing like she should. Here lately her grades have been slipping and going to have to alter her ADD meds so maybe that will help her. Her speech teacher is also starting her Barton once again to help her with her reading so maybe I can see some improvement in her. Christopher is working on a third book report and still dragging his feet about writing it. This year 5th grade has been harder and he is having to study more than he did last year but his grades are still real good. I am having to depend on his help with Mikayla in teaching her open response for questions so I am thankful he knows it so well. Sarah is improving and not clinging like she was. She is back to earing good once again and the diapers stopped last week finally after almost 2 weeks of them. Now for me to top it off I end up with the sinus cold but fairing well with over the counter meds so not doing well. I am getting in alot of running here and there but don't know how much that counts as exercise. I really want to lose 20 pounds before Christmas so maybe I can get myself jump started.

I have the same problem, but on the other side. I am a teacher running to meetings, getting to know teachers, answering parent emails and questions, etc... It always seems that the beginning and end of the school year are crazy!

Cherly - so sorry about your little one being so sick and your older ones acting up. Hope the little one is feeling better.

Feeling a bit overwhelmed here - seems like the beginning of the school year is just never ending - it's like we're running the kids somewhere every night - or off to open house, concerts, something at the school. Fortunately this week - I've been able to get some activity in every day - even if it's walking or running in place while catching up on t.v. shows. Hoping to get some down time with the family this weekend and maybe hit the gym on Sunday.

Have a great Friday and weekend all!

I am so sorry about your little one. Why!does it seem like the older ones behave worse when they know you can't take the time or energy to deal with it? OH, I just answered my own question!

I too have been extremely busy. We are just finishing up the school fundraiser. Tim and I did pass our next level in dance last Saturday. emoticon

Hope everyone is doing well. Enjoy the fall weather.

Hello all and sorry I have been out of pocket for a while now. I have had a little one with salmonella poisoning and the other two with just attitude problems and feel my world coming down on me right now. I hope your all doing well and having a great week. Take care girls.

Hope everyone had a terrific Tuesday. I did manage to get to my friend's to walk in her pool this evening. She came out to talk to me, so I had company - another benefit.

Well, I want to get to bed early - I have a book calling my name. I'm about 75 pages form the end...

This is my 15th year at 4th grade - the only grade I've taught. I might add that it is the best. emoticon

I assign book reports too. Everyone will do one in September, then every other month depending on their student number. I saved examples form last year's class to show and critique when I explain the assignment. I require a summary and response - 1-2 paragraph summary of the book and 1 paragraph what they did or didn't like with examples form the story. They have a lot of choices for their product - the third part of their report.
Click on my name, Sharon Moder, after going to the link below. I have product descriptions/ideas for book reports in the "Homework" section.

These might help, if he gets to do a creative book report.

I will be happy to help in anyway that I can...

Our anniversary was on Open House night this year. It's always at the start of the school year. We went out for a nice dinner the Sunday before.

CJ, I hope you are feeling better soon. It is no fun to start off the school year not feeling well.

Well, I am tired. I "water" walked after school and I am really tired, of course only 4 hours of sleep has something to do with it. So early to bed tonight.

Take care everyone.

Ah yes, book reports. Those can be tricky. Does it look like a 'regular one' with write-ups on the characters and plot, etc.? Or one of the newer versions where they have to draw a 'wanted poster' for one of the characters and think of interesting and creative things that they could be wanted for (like "to give a big party to, for being such a great friend to the main character")?

We also have 'books in a bag' here where the student puts some objects in a bag that have to do with the book (like a mini football if the book is about a football team), and then draw scenes on the outside of the bag and they have to present it to the class.

Thanks for the good wishes about school, Cherly.
I am looking forward to my job, for the first time in quite a few years. I guess that's a really good sign, right?

I am not feeling too great right now. I am having some tummy troubles. Probably all the different water I've been having all over the place. I will take some acidopholous (the good bacteria found in yoghurt) and have some yoghurt as well, to see if that helps.

What a great challenge you have going with your husband. All the best!

And I hope you think of a great idea for your anniversary. Any themed-hotel rooms near you? Can you go overnight anywhere? Is Sarah okay to leave overnight? Or take in a fancy show like a play or concert or something.

My dh and I booked time off work (at the principal's suggestion and okay) together for our 20th and went for a long drive. We were supposed to go for a day-long fishing trip, but there was thunderstorms forecast, so we couldn't put the boat in. But it was nice anyway, just being together. We had a picnic for lunch and then went home and changed for dinner, and rented a movie just for us. My parents picked up the kids from school and had them for a sleepover.

Well I got another 30 minutes in today for my cardio. We are getting some lower humidity around here at least for a few days. Sam are you still teaching 4th grade? That is the grade Mikayla is in this year. She has a couple of real good teachers that will help her alot with her dyslexia. I think her speech teacher will be real good as well and will take good care of her. She is so ready to test out of speech and I hope this teacher will be able to get her in like she is supposed to be done and help her get out of there. Christopher is in 5th and so nervous about a book report that will be coming up. I will have to brush up on my skills with that to be able to help him out. It's been a long time for me since I have had to do one so Sam I may ask for some advice. Boy is my age telling on me now. CJ I hope your year starts off good for you kids and hope you can get back on the losing too. Greg and I have a competition going on me losing my 20 to 25 pounds by Novemeber 20th which is our anniversary and he has to quit smoking. I hope to make us some plans this year to do something for our anniversary instead of staying around here. I am trying to do this the weekend before since I will have to do Christopher birthday on our anniversary. He always comes first so I just told him we might be able to do this the weekend before. Well take care all and have a great week.

Great that you guys are getting back on track with fitness!

Glad the school year is starting well for both of you (on both sides of the desk, so to speak).

What grade this year, Sam? I'm losing track with all my teacher sparkfriends.

My dh started back today at the school - he is one of the vice-principals and needs to get all sorted before the teachers are all back and the kids start. My kids and I don't start for another two weeks (assistants start the day before the students).

I am glad that your first impressions are positive for your children's teachers. Maybe your son will behave better for you at home now that he isn't there 24/7.

Just finished the grocery shopping. Decided I need to clean the refrigerator before reloading it. Then I want to go to my friend's to walk in the pool. I HAVE to get back to exercising.

Hope everyone has a great week.

My kids seem to like it ok. Christopher is nervous about book reports and getting it all done and I assured him he would be just fine. Mikayla is also enjoying the freedom that 4th grade has brought to her with starting middle school. She has a good set of teachers that I really like and I think the will do good for her as well. Looking forward to a great year for both of them. Sarah is trying to get her walking started off and hope with the kids back in school I can get her to talking more with what she wants instead of pointing to every thing and grunting. With the kids at home they just give it too her to keep her happy. Glad your year started well and hope it goes great for you.

I'm doing fine. Just watching The Book of Eli. It is very good.

I started school on Monday and the students came on Wednesday. I have 27 in my class this year.

I had a great turn out at Open House. It's always wonderful to have parents who want to be involved with their children's education.

Hope the rest of you got your children off to a good start, if they started already.

Sam and CJ how have things been going? My kids started back to school today and can say I was ready for it. Sarah is really beginning to be a handful and hope with the kids heading back to school I can break her from some bad habits. Both of the kids were ready but both of them nervous as well. Well it's off to get Sarah out of the tv things. Never ends.
