Gee Whiz! Sounds like you have a fun day doing all that hiking and walking. If its in Arizona, means you have that beautiful desert around you. I love the challenge too. I walk my urbanization..each round is one mile, so if I add in once or twice, plus all the other things going on, you can get there. For sure, you have to make a conscious effort to do something extra to add the 10,000. The more you walk, the easier it is, the more you WANT to walk. Good luck to all the newbies. We can do this!

Welcome. One thing that really helps is to add 200 steps a day each week until you reach your goal. It isn't that hard to add 200 and you can get that by parking farther, walking 2-3 minutes, or even marching while brushing your teeth.

Adding the 200 per week will bring you to your goal in just a few weeks as you will find that it works even better than you ever imagined.

I do best when I have a goal. Wearing the pedometer all day, I check it every 4 hours and see how many steps I've walked. Then I can figure out how many I need to walk each 4 hours to reach my goal. It sometimes means taking an extra loop around the halls, run up and down the stairs a couple of times, etc to get my steps in.

Walking as soon as I get home from work before I get distracted by other things helps as well. You can take the kids on a walk with a jogging stroller or use a walking video to get the walks in. On my days off, I can get more steps in early in the morning and set a goal to get a number of steps in before Sparking or doing other fun things.

Getting in 10,000 a day is HARD, but you keep plugging you will get there.

The other thing, one sparker said she learned that one needs to get more than 10,000 just ot LOSE....good grief. Got 19,573 today, but hey I hiked over 9 miles according to my pedometer, and 5.87 according to RUNKEEPER via GPS. I already had mileage before starting out, so that is probably accurate.

I'M HERE! My name is Amanda and I'm changing my life! I'm married to an Army guy and we have a daughter(age 4) and a son(age 1). I just got a Fitbit for Christmas and I'm new to tracking my steps. I've been having a little trouble reaching 10k on a daily basis. I seem to be stuck in the 6000 range. I know with your tips, tricks and support I'll be up there in no time!
