ANNIKADANNIE - welcome to the team. What an ingenious idea your DH had! I too am a teacher, but since I am the technology coordinator as well, my days of grading papers is over. I used to get to the school a couple of minutes early and walk around the gym as many times as possible and now I head straight to the gym after school so I don't get derailed. We are here for you if you need us!
Oh, my goodness! I feel like I could have written your post. I teach 6th grade English and just got up to take a break from grading writings! I too have trouble squeezing in all my steps. Right now my goal is 7,000 a day, and I have a hard time making it. You will love the support this team gives you. Welcome!

I have long enjoyed walking and, a few months ago read about walking 10000 steps a day and tracking with a pedometer. Got a pedometer and it has really helped with consistency! There are times that I have a very difficult time getting in enough steps. The biggest challenge for me is to find ways to incorporate exercise into my very busy teaching life. When a lot of your work involves reading, lecture planning and grading tons of student papers - all essentially sedentary activities, it can be tough! About a month ago, I got a used treadmill and my husband built me a simple but sturdy tall desk for it so I can walk while I work. This has been a huge help! I look forward to learning from all of you on the team of the ways you have found to incorporate significant amounts of walking into your daily lives.
