I used the ones that you can buy just about anywhere. I've been hearing about a thing Dr. Scholl's has out they call a Custom Fit Orthotic Center. Here's a link to the web site. http://www.drscholls.com/drscholls/index.j sp I think WalMart has them, but I'm not sure where else. I haven't checked them out yet, but I will. I found ones that worked for me by trial and error. This may make it easier. Good luck.
Yes, the pain comes after resting. The plantar fascia starts to heal mend, but as soon as we use the foot again, it re-tears. The othotics take the strain off and allow it to heal. I can finally go a day or so without them without pain. I don't push my luck, though.
I started having trouble with plantar fascitis in my mid 50's too. I started using orthodics in all my shoes to support my arches and don't have any trouble at all now. If I decide to so fashion instead of comfort, then I have a problem! I'm getting my doc to write me a letter so I can wear athletic shoes to school. That REALLY helps.
May the problem is the amount of walking we are doing. Before exercising and working out we were just doing our normal everyday walking during working hours. Now that we are trying to lose weight, we are walking/jogging more everyday. That's the only reason I can see.

Aloha and welcome! I have a Body bugg and a pedometer (yup, anal) and it is amazing to me how few calories I burn when I am at work if I don't make a concerted effort to get up and get my steps in! Plus, I just got plantar fascitis so now every step I take is painful and I really am aware of each step!

Hi welcome. I have a BodyMediaFit monitor and it is just amazing how many more calories I burn on the days when I do a lot of walking, like to and from the train and my lunch walk. I can burn 1000 more calories per day by just walking. Believe me, there are a few weekends when I have tested the "sitting all day" theory : )
