Hi, I'm Peggy and I joined on August 10. I've surprised myself by sticking to a way healthier eating plan but have yet to get up off of my couch for some intentional exercise. And I'm ready...and you guys inspire me. I'm in my late 50's with two grown children and want to get healthy to enjoy potential grandchildren that they assure me will happen some day. I have a new pedometer, am reading the instructions, and am going to actually go see if I can walk longer than 15 minutes. One last thing: I love spark people points and all.

Hello...My name is Theresa. I am a mother of 2 adult boys and a grandmother of one very beautiful granddaughter. I am 40 years old and finally decided that if I want to watch my granddaughter grow up and be able to play with her (because she is always on the go) that it was time I took care of myself. I started walking with my mom to give her moral support on her diet and before I knew it I was losing the weight, so have decided to continue walking atleast a mile every day and working out 3 days a week. I have lost a total of 9 pounds so far and really feel great. I am so glad I finally decided to take care of me, it is so much fun and I know that in the end it will all be well worth the effort.

Hi.... my name is Judith and I'm pleased to be here!

I am 45, overweight and find my pedometer very motivational. Some days I struggle to get to 10,000 steps... like weekends when I don't move apart from walking the dog.... other days its more fun. I like walking Pickle (my dog) and she is a great motivator as well.

I look forward to getting to knwo you all as I try to hit 10,000 steps a day more than miss that goal!

Hi! I'm Kim and I had recently purchased a pedometer and set a goal to reach 10,000 steps a day. The pedometer really motivates me. Since I started wearing it I found a park a short drive from work where I can get a nice 10 minute walk during my lunch hour, I've been taking more short walks after work with my 2 year old daugher or we have goofy time where we practice taking giant steps or galloping like a pony or whatever her little mind can thing of us to do (I dread when she wants to hop like a frog - I'm more of an old toad at this point), and I alternate walking the dog in the morning with my husband. I keep finding ways to get just a few minutes of activity and at the end of the day I have proof that the little bits of activity really start to add up.

I'm glad I found a team of people with a similar goal and I look forward to getting to know all of you.

Alays wear your pedometer. It may not count every step, but then you won't forget to put it back on. Don't wear it if you are swimming of course, LOL.

I've never done a challenge like this, and I am really! excited. :) I have a pedometer, I just need to read the instructions for it. Can't wait to start! I loveeee walking!

Lauren: BANG!! We all face fears on the road to goal. There are walking DVD's and loads of other things to do to get the steps in.

Glad you joined. Now start tracking your steps on the August steps thread. Acccountability is part and parcel of getting to goal....and another level of fear perhaps.

My name's Jen, I'm thirty, and after taking a new an pretty stressful job a year ago I've really let myself go and gained quite a bit of weight. Also, I now have high blood pressure - not sure if it's the weight or the stress, but probably both.

I found Sparkpeople a few days ago and am fascinated. Walking is one of the few kinds of exercise I actually enjoy, so I now got a pedometer and joined this team. :)

Hi everyone my name is jen i'm 24 years old and have a 6 month old daughter. i have lost all my baby weight and accually weigh less now then before i got pregnant but i still have 29 lbs to go to reach my goal. i walk almost every night of the week. it is one of my favorit things to do. my biggest problem is food i love it, but i try really hard to stay in my calorie range and i do most days. just looking for a little extra support.

Beth, thank you for that intro. How many here have started/stopped/started/stopped and gained weight and felt miserable, frustrated and angry with themselves? Probably all of us.

The way I see Spark working the best is by honest communication and sharing with your team mates. Blogging is great for the angst! The more you Spark, the more people can reach out to you in your time of need. The more you reach out to others, the more they get what they need. And the beat goes on.

Hi! I am Beth from the St. Louis Metro area. I have been on and off Spark for the last few years. I have lost 40lbs+ which is about the half way mark to where I want to be.

I tried to fool myself into thinking my body needed to level out because I got stuck. Then my exercise stopped and I started eating whatever I wanted.

I have gained 10 lbs since June 1 - this is NOT acceptable. I worked too hard to get those lbs off.. so I am refocused and energized to do my steps.

I love love love walking the trails in my area. I usually have no problem getting my steps. I "think" I adjusted my calorie range based on how many calories I want to burn a week. My problem last week was that I felt like I was starving at the end of the day...so then I over ate :/

Can you tell I just walked?? I am wound up.. sorry! lol I know it feels good to do it.. I just lose my motivation at times.

Glad to be here!!!

What I need is to stay ON TRACK... and stay focused. I don't want to be this weight when pictures are taken are my oldest daughter's high school graduation!!!

Hi. My name is Cheryle and I just joined Sparks. I love it. I am right now a SAHM to 3 adopted teen agers, a 90 MIL, a husband and a dog. I am hoping that Sparks is just what I need to motivate me to exercise and lose weight. I have used a pedometer, nothing fancy. Maybe I will have to buy the one that was mentioned. I don't think I have ever registered a 10,000 step day. I thought I was doing good with over 2,000 of which I was told was a mile. But, I will keep track and see what I can do. I look forward to hearing from others. I too need a lot of motivation and support and would like to make some friends who have something in common with me, being over 50 with kids.

Hi, I am DJ, I'm 38 and I live NYC. New to this thread but not to SparkPeople. I need some support in moving. I absolutely HATE to exercise. I haven't met one I like. I understand now that just eating healthy will not get the weight off. So I decided to start with walking. If I can commit to walking then I can gradually build up to more movement.

Hi, I'm Susan in Kansas. I joined this team because I really need someone to hold me accountable for exercising. I teach first graders and feel that I must be walking 20,000 steps a day, but when I wear the pedometer it doesn't register nearly that many steps. Our school has a health grant and all of the kiddos wear pedometers to encourage vigorous movement. I decided I might as well join them and this team at the same time. At my age (52) I know that dieting will not be enough to lose the weight I need to lose, so it is my goal to work up to 10,000 steps and then make it part of my daily routine.

Yes, I'm a newbie .. Sammy's the name, and weight gain was the game (I lost) sooo, here I am ready to try and follow some advice from all of you great "losers" out there who have already done all the hard yards and willing to offer some great and welcomed advice on "how to" and what "not to" do along the way, and all of the little pit falls trying to get through and find the new me!

Hi, I'm Delwyn and live in New Zealand. I've joined your team because I am a keen walker and am needing to lose weight and get fit to make the most of a walking holiday planned for the French Alps in 2010. A couple of years ago I went to the Pyrenees and my preparation for that included walking about 15000 steps per day with some very big days where I waked for 6-8 hours. So starting tomorrow (it is 8pm in NZ) I will be aiming for 10,000 steps per day

Hello team! My name is Becky, and I joined this team because I love my pedometer. I love the way it tracks every step I take so that I can see that even if I can't get out and work out every day, I'm still getting exercise! I also thought that by joining this group, I'd be held accountable to reach that 10,000 each day.

I'm 25 years old, but I often feel a lot older because of my weight and lack of energy. I am looking to get down to a healthy weight for the first time in my life, but honestly, I'm mostly just looking to feel better. I know that exercise is the best way to get energy, even if that seems counterintuitive, so along with eating healthier, I think I will be able to bring myself back down to feeling 25 (or younger)!

in the beginning (Jan. 26th, 2009) I started out barely making 3,000 steps, and then when I hit 3 months of continuously reaching over 10,000 steps I moved to just tracking my steps while exercising and making sure I reach over 10,000 steps... so I thought this would be a great team to join.... Hi everyone!

I've joined the team to get myself back into the habit of strapping on my pedometer EVERY day and striving to reach 10K steps.

I started 2 years ago by setting a goal to walk 10 minutes a day.

Welcome Sarean, and Sarah. We all started somewhere. Some do a lot more than 10K. I go up and down on my steps depending on my work load.

Do your best and build up. Omron is my brand too.

Hi everyone, I joined today to help keep myself accountable to my goal of moving more. I purchased an Omron pedometer yesterday (great reviews all around)and started wearing it at 9 am today. Just over an hour and I'm already over 200 steps. :)

10,000 steps is a lofty goal for me right now, but I want to gradually work towards and beyond that number.

I can't wait to start posting big numbers!

Hi! I'm Sarah and I began my life change with Sparks almost 2 years ago (August 15th). I was doing GREAT and lost almost 30 pounds until we began selling our house in spring last year. My healthy habits got pushed by the wayside and I began packing, renovating, unpacking...and still unpacking. We finally moved at the end of the year but I seem like I have little time now with keeping up with my two boys (3 and 7), working my part-time job as an office manager, keeping up with two properties (until we sell our old one) and keeping the house in one piece while my husband travels for his work. I'm struggling to get back on track and regain the ground I've lost but it is MUCH harder this time around. I've come here for motivation and encouragement. THANKS!
