Thanks for your reply. I bought one at Amazon after reading they answer to all my questions. A shame it does not give MPH.
My sportline gives MPH and steps per minute.
I wore it in my pocket, and it seems to work ok there, but it is best to wear it on your belt in line with the crease of your pants. That is just not always convient!

Yes, the Omron does show the minutes you walk and the number of miles. There are like 7 functions. It does not tell you mph though.

I have a question regards to the Omrom pedometer.
I haven't seen this answer anywhere.
I know, it counts steps and calories.
I need to know if it tells how many miles you have walked, and miles per hour?
Does it also tell you how LONG you have walked in hours and minutes?
Hopeing to heare SOON!

I have the Omron the clip broke so I now loop it through my belt loop, this works well, I guess I will use a safety pin this summer when I switch over to dresses and skirts. I would recommend using the pedometer it is a very good motivator.....

Just got my new Omron Pedometer in the mail today. I had it up and configured in no time and it was perfect on my treadmill. I am going to get to the 10k steps a day, this week! As God is my witness. (and with His help)!

I have a cheapo counter that I have had for 2 years almost. I have broke the clip and now wear it in my pocket but its still acurate. I have bought more expensive ones and they dont work well for me.

I have a friend that always keeps her Omron in her pocket and it works perfectly. She has also kept it in her purse and in a backpack and that works as well. I think because the Omron isn't a pendulum pedometer it can handle this.
You may want to make sure that it stays in the same position, or vertical if it is in a bag or backpack - I think the booklet that comes with it addresses this.

lol- there are pedometer ads on the top of this thread including one for Omron.
I always clip my pedometer on so can't tell you if it works in your pocket.

I was logging on here to ask just about the same question as OP, so I'm happy to find this thread! Like a PP, I have discovered that my cheapie pedometer is so not worth the cheap. I will definitely look into the Omron everyone is recommending. Thanks!!

LOL @ "junkies"
I have an Omron HJ-112. Basically the same as the other one, except I can't hook it up to my computer. But it has a 7 day memory function, and I have an Excel spreadsheet I use to track my steps.

Well I was considering buying one of the ones you guys were recommending and then I get on my treadmill and do about 15 mins at 3.3 and I get off to realize that my cheapo pedometer did not count any of it. Grrrr. Needless to say, I just ordered it from Amazon. Thanks for the advice, people!

I have had 4 pedometers and my last one, the omron HJ-720ITC is by far the best. It isn't a pendulum pedometer so it is a lot more accurate. Plus I love being able to download my data. I agree that the clip is inadequate but I always use the tether and clip that on as well and that works great.
I also got it at amazon for $30 so the cost is similar to another one I bought but it is infinitely better.
It sounds like there are a lot of good options out there. It is always good to hear about other pedometers.
I think it is cool that your phone has a pedometer built in to it.

My cell phone Sony Ericson W has a pedometer built in and it tracks how many steps I do a day. Since I carry it with me everywhere I go it shows me how many steps a day I have done and even gives me little motivators such as x amount of steps equals walking around the world. It's a great motivator.

For ME, the word, is CAREFULLY. I have had mine fall off, and I think the battery gets moved, then all my info is lost. THUS, I keep a little record book into which I copy everything DAILY.
AS for when to USE this little guy.....I have been wearing mine to work at night. I am a NIGHT nurse, I decided I need to COUNT that walking I do there, and one night it added to 14,000+ steps. I admit to walking MORE to add it up, but HEY, that is what we need to do!!!
HOPE this helps !
BTW, I am using one by Sportline. I took it to the HS track, to measure it accurately, and for MOST of the time, it is ON THE MONEY!!!

Get the best, Norma: Omron HJ-720-ITC $31 at Amazon.com and free shipping. It has a strong teather. And, like MsWeezer said, you can put it in your pocket.
In today's economy, heck, in ANY economy, quality must be there in an item or service before I recommend anything to anyone. This has the quality. In fact, I bought my 2nd one from Amazon. My 1st one which I still use daily, I paid $60 locally here, and felt it was worth it.
Save money, buy what works well. It's not worth the frustration.

I use a LifeFitness pedometer and it looks and does exactly what the Omron does...it just have a different name. Prior to buying this one, I went through a lot of the less expensive version and I experienced all the same issues that you are having. I must admit that the clip to the strap broke (after having it for 3 years). Now I use a safety pin to pin it to my garment. Suggested by another Sparker!
Good luck!!

Norma, Many of us use the OMRON HJ112. It has a nice clip and you can also just put it in your pocket. Very accurate and this model you can plug into your computer and download the info and track your progress. Good luck to you!

Hi, I'm Norma and have always enjoyed walking, but with a very busy schedule, it's too easy to put it last on my priority list. I am re-committing by joining this team. Does anyone have advice on the best way to use the pedometer. I have owned 3 in my lifetime, and they are always either falling off (I've gotten a pocket one this time) or re-setting themselves. Any advice? Thanks.
