Bilby, that is exactly the attitude I was afraid of hearing and wanted to avoid. My point was not that vegans are wrong. My point was I want to discuss things openly, not based on a particular ideology. I find it ironic, then, that the very first comment after mine was ideological in nature. I guess there's just no avoiding it.
There is nothing at all wrong with being vegan, nor did I say there was. In modern society the arguments for doing so are strong; we mistreat animals, change their diet, overpopulate them... the list of animal mismanagement is as long as the time we've been doing so is short. Modern farming methods are clearly faulty, and being vegan because of that is a valid personal stance.
Ask my friends and you'll find, as with most things, I take time to understand a given issue and then make a balanced decision. For example, I'm not a vegan because a vegan lifestyle for "Homo sapiens" is not natural, but I do limit meat and eliminate chemicals from my diet. I try to reduce my ecological footprint as much as possible, not just food but everything, and I'm always open to discussion. I'm looking forward to sharing ideas and learning new things.
