Hello to everyone I am a new to all of this or at least I just signed up end of March or first part of April - got to lose weight am about 60 lbs over weight. I had surgery last Nov. on 3 hammer toes and could not walk and gained back fat and kept eating and eating and eating. I was doing Zumba and started line dancing well my toes hurt too much and had to quit Zumba - in Feb. I had to have my screws removed because they were coming out - my body was rejecting them. I also fell cracked 2 ribs had to quit walking - after my rigs healed I started back line dancing and rejoined Zumba in April. Well I was not getting any where with my weight so I ordered the SP pedometer and LOVE IT!!! I walk almost 10,000 steps a day that includes line dancing which I now do 4 times a week. I feel great and hopefully will lose all this fat I have gained all these years. I am 64 and think doing pretty good but have to get motivated and that is why I am here!!!
PS I tried Belviq and it was NOT for me - did weird things to me BUT I was not hungry which is the point of it - was very expensive and I just have to get off the eating roller coaster and relearn nutrition - can't afford the organic fruits and veggies but trying to eat the other ones and hopefully get off the eating roller coaster

That's great!
I pulled some rib muscles and am unable to do much of anything for a bit. A little disappointed but I'll get back into the swing of things again, soon. My motivation was high so hopefully it will remain when I can exercise regularly after I heal.

Started out on Nutrisystem but had allergies to their foods. A good friend recommended Spark People and now instead of gaining on Nutrisystem I have lost what I gained on their plan and am back to my original starting weight. Like Spark People much better!

Here to try and stay motivated... I have lost count how many time I have started and then kaiboshed my self with my love of food. Even though we eat mostly healthy most of the time I have and incurable love of sweets. I am going to try and work on portion control mostly to start and to get the water back in the changes I am making

I am learning my way around this team posting thing and hope to do better! emoticon I feed the birds and told my husband that I felt like I was carrying around a 50 pound bag of bird seed everywhere I go and like many others have said, I am tired of it. I usually stay motivated to lose weight, but then I go back to the same old eating habits and regain. Definition of “insanity emoticon . So this time I am going to do my best to learn more about portion control and get involved with a group of people instead of going it alone. Hopefully it will make me more accountable and motivated if I can remember that 50 pound bag of bird seed everyday. My goal like others is to try for the first 30 pounds, then work on the last 20. But first things first. Thanks you’ll for being here!

Accept what is, let go of what was and have faith in what will be!

Hi Everyone! I'm new to this forum. I've been on SparkPeople for 2 months yet feel the need to connect to others who are on the same path. I'm 62 and have been thin most of my life. The 2 times I have been heavy have occurred after starting a new medication. So this being the second time I am older and less active. I was 20 years younger the first time. I have been tracking my food and drinking my water as I need to do. It's the exercise part that I struggle with doing. Motivation is lacking most days. My niece's wedding is next month and I want to lose some weight by then. I am looking at next Christmas at being at my target weight. I know I can do it but not if I don't push myself to walk, walk, and walk.

Hi. I'm 52. 2 years ago I went hiking with women who were 10 and 20 years younger than me, respectively. They couldn't keep up. One had a knee injury and one had a foot injury and I was so smug that I kept having to wait for them. Well guess what? I gained 15 lbs on top of the 20 I always wanted to lose, and got a stress fracture in my foot trying to return to my regular walking program, simply because I'm now so heavy. My body doesn't want to do what it used to do now that it has this extra weight on it. When it started to heal, I tried again and REINJURED IT!!! Now I know: I have to take it slow, and get this weight off once and for all, and make exercising part of my life, not just to "get in shape." It's true: USE it or LOSE it!

I'm tired of it. Tired of being heavy, tired of being out of shape, tired of trying to squeeze into jeans that fit fine a year ago. I have regained the 25 pounds I had lost and I really have no excuse except that I like to overindulge in wine and dairy products and I have a hard time saying "no" to good European breads, even though my body reacts to wheat.

I'm also embarrassed to be seen next to my daughter, who works out every day.

Besides, I'm in my mid-50s and if I don't get healthy now, I may end up in a nursing home when I'm older. And who wants that?

My goal is to go from 172 to 142, which puts me into a healthy BMI. Then I'll change my goal to lose another 20 pounds or so. But it's not just about losing weight. I'm working on building my muscle so I can look better in a swimsuit. Hey, why not?

Blogging on I've just started using Pinterest and have some cool healthy recipes. If you'd like to take a peek, they're at www.pinterest.com/lindabibb/.

I'd like to join this group . . . need to own up to actually needing to lose more than ten or fifteen pounds.

Over the past ten years I've gained 30#. Feel like I'm playing Russian roulette with life/health because relatives on both sides have had strokes. Struggling to stay motivated as I've been trying to budge off this all-high high plateau for a year. A pound a week would have me at 1st goal of losing 30# by Christmas, then I'll work on the next ten!
Have some fun physical events planned for this year.

Did 60 min. 'walking aerobics' this morning and joints aren't feeling too bad.

Since turning 40 I've slowly gained about 40 pounds. I stopped exercising due to an injury.

about 8 years ago i started trying to lose the weight - WW, ediets, myfitnesspal, many many more. I've lost and gained and lost and gained but never have lost the entire 40 pounds I've gained.

I'm now just disgusted with my lack of motivation and thought I would start over. Searching the internet I found this site! I think this one talks to me more than the others.

Here's to a new me and letting this be the last time I try. I feel success

4/7/14 I can do this

HI, I am 70 plus. I want to lose about 30 pounds. I lost 20 pounds a year ago with spark people but have not been able to go all the way to goal. I am back giving it a go again. I am trying to lay down expectations that I will lose like I did in my forties. I know it will take longer .One thing I am going to do to help is to not weigh every day. Maybe once a week or less. Does anyone else have trouble with the scale. If so how do conquer the emotions it brings, failure or success does not mean what the scale says but I have trouble not giving it the power.

Hi,
I am a Grama of six, married and Mom of four. I am returning to Sparks after being away from the site for three years. My hubs retired and we moved cross country back to our home state of California. Needless to say I really put on the pounds living in the South.
Now that we are settled I am looking forward to getting back on track and finally lose this weight for good.

I am excited and looking forward to everyones encouragement and advise.

Hi my name is Carole, 72 yrs old and I live in Florida. I am a 5 yr Breast Cancer survivor and in Oct I had a heart attack and surgery. I thought it is about time I get heathly. I just finished 36 sessions of cardiac rehab, and I want to keep the exercise going. My husband has a terrible back and needs to lose more than I do so I thought if I can keep motivated I would be able to help him. Besides I do the cooking so he has to go along with me. I love to quilt and help other people with their quilting, as much as I can.

MRSCLARK, yes I also have a problem with binge eating. For that reason, I cannot keep trigger foods in my house-sweets is the worst for me followed closely by chips and pretzels. I am working on replacing these problem foods with healthy options that resemble the trigger foods. Fruit for the sugar, celery for the chips. I know this won't be easy at first, but know from previous experience it will become habit and I cannot ever go back to being lazy about my food choices if I am to become healthier.

Hi, my nickname is Yo and like the majority of Spark members I have tried multiple diets in hopes of losing weight. I have been on two programs that were successful for me-Medifast (deprevation) and Ediets. Ediets is identical to Spark People, but rather pricey now. The reason Ediets was successful for me was the peer support, which is why I chose Spark people. I know that with the help of our group we can all help each other be successful. I look forward to contributing to our team. There truly is strength in numbers!

I am back to SPARKing again! I have been a member since 2009 but for the last three weeks I have been really working on exercising and watching what I eat again. My husband and i joined a Healthe program at my work to get a discount on our health insurance and what a wake up call! Nothing like measuring your BMI, percentage of body fat to get you motivated!!!

WE can do this!!! Lets shake it and not break it!!! emoticon

I came to SparkPeople in a last ditch effort to lose weight after months/years of struggling. My goal is to lose about 30 pounds. I have hypothyroidism and have been diagnosed with a fatty liver. Because of these issues, losing weight is almost impossible. I have recently been able to lose weight by eating a fairly strict Paleo diet. I want to be healthier and I value my liver so losing weight is a must. Of course, I want to look good again too. I am hoping SparkPeople can help.

Can so relate to this................... I've tried WW and for me - just didn't work, and it adds up to be a lot of money for something that's not working properly. It's so hard to shed that weight now that I'm almost 52 - but.................. with everyone's help, dedication and this site - I know we can all try and do this together. Just getting back to Sparks.......... So much info to read

I'm new to Spark. The reason I joined is by accident actually. I have done Atkins and WW and lost 35-40 lbs each time. Now I'm back up and can't stand to look at myself w/o a shirt on - even when changing into my pj's. It's worse in the dressing room! I'm like "Who has a body that looks like this?" My lab work came back last week and now I have high cholesterol. I have been having mysterious traveling health issues for the past several months and I'm thinking it's got to me my weight and lack of activity. Since my parents are sick and I'm their care taker, I just haven't been taking care of myself like I used to. Now I'm having digestion issues as well and was in the ER a couple of weeks ago thinking it was a gall bladder attack; however, all my labs showed that it wasn't. So I am going to lose 40 pounds by diet and exercise and see if my health improves. I am 55 now, so it's a lot harder than when I was younger, but I am determined to do it and KEEP it off this time.
To summarize emoticon , I am losing weight for health reasons mostly, but also b/c I like to look good in my clothes!

I'm back with sparkpeople after a hiatus because I just keep getting heavier, no matter what I do! I can't seem to stick with anything because I get frustrated. I can't afford to go to WW. I figure I'll try spark people again (did it years ago) to see if I can make myself accountable. I need to lose about 40 pounds but even a half a pound is sooo hard! I just don't want to get bigger and bigger and bigger and end up so fat I can't move!

Let's do this!

My goal is to lose 5 pounds at a time. To get this one number to a healthy number as all my other health numbers are in a healthy range.

Hello everyone! I am wanting to lose 30lbs. I went from working on a farm to sitting behind a desk and the weight piled on. I am at the age I really want to be healthy physically and mentally. I've always been very active until the last several years.

Yes, i am the vine, and you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.

Hi Rose and Newbie. This site is very helpful. I especially like the nutrition tracker where I can keep track of my daily intake of calories and other nutrients. I don't exercise doe to joint problems.I do physical therapy and when the weather is nice I can walk though not far and not fast.

Welcome and good luck

Lifting weights and a little cardio, house and snow shovelling counts I hope. The main thing is diet for me. I would eat healthy all day.however when i got home i would eat junk. Even if that meant digging out the ice cream i hide at the bottom of my deep frezzer. Got to get that sugar out of my diet. What are you people eating to help.would love some input

I was away from the site for about a week, came back looking for some inspiration. You guys are the greatest. While reading this thread I was reminded of my Aunt (who is 93). She is still conscious of how she looks in her clothes. When she was younger, she always dressed the perfect picture of elegance. When I took her to the MD yesterday, she asked me which jacket looked better, to fluff her hair, and her nails & lipstick matched. She was the person that I learned from. I wish that I were the best me that I could be. I would like for her to see that.

Hey girl! you sound like my mom and also like me..mom always said she may be in her 80's but by gumbie she did not have to dress like it! She never would go to the senior center because they were "too old"..she is 88. ha! I am 70 and i am, i am proud to say, just like my mom....my grandmother wore the old fashioned lace up shoes...remember those? They came into fashion last year and the year before and some girl tried to sell me a pair and i said no thank you...they remind me of my grandmothers very sensible shoes! she looked at me strange...don't think she has seen a picture of ladies in the 40's and 50's! emoticon

my reasons for losing weight are like most...health and self esteem issues and wanting to remain independant and not be a burden to anyone. there's lots of vanity reasons like wanting to wear shorts or that little black dress in public and feel confident that i look and feel my best.

i may be in my 50s but i dont feel like it and damn if i'm going to act or dress like it. so watch out world...here i come!!

I want to lose weight for many reasons. First I have lots of self- image problems when I am heavy. Also because I have gained almost all my weight and am tired of still looking pregnant. Also I want to keep up with my sexy hubby and be able to play with my grands. Also I am also going to work on my spiritual because i have to physical and spiritual to feel good, emoticon

My final goal weight is 150 pounds but I'm splitting it into smaller goals to get me below the stone and half stone marks and to get me under the next weight that ends in zero

I'm on Weightwatchers and my exercise goal is to do 50 minutes exercise each day as they say that is what you need for weight loss. My only exercise is walking.

I am also drinking a pint of water before each meal as everyone says that water helps the weight shift quick.

My reasons for weight loss are loads but mainly to get fitter, healthier, and have a longer happier life, to wear nice clothes again, and to be able to enjoy a wider variety of physical activities. :-)

i had lost 23 lbs. through weight watchers and regained it beginning with a trip to california and when i got back it was like i never had a weight problem. My advice to you is to not fall into the trap i fell into...even track the "bad" comfort foods, etc., which i was so bad with. Visualize yourself slipping into that smaller size and how good you felt when you could button that new blouse.

I agree! Competion is wonderful..because i am highly competitive. keep us all up on how you are doing with it and what they give you as a challenge. tracking is where i am weak, weak, weak...even when i was a weight watcher they could not believe i was complaining about gains when i never tracked...am i bad? emoticon

The staff at the school where I am a Librarian started a 8 week challenge to become healthier. I joined. One of the challenges was to keep a food journal. I have been a member of Spark People for several years, and when I keep a food journal, I do much better. This was the ideal time to start again.

yeah, i know. i love to sit and play games on the computor. sooooo...signed up at an exercize studio where you are led by a personal trainer and i feel since i am paying for it i should by gosh go to the classes...however, i have missed several training sessions(did get one in) due to having hubby in the hospital so when i go back tomorrow they are gonna kill me! we do pilates, aerobics, balance, stretching(yoga), weights, balls, bands so on and so forth and i hate every single minute of it but let me tell you, since i began my cholesterol has plummeted and so has my blood pressure...that is all due thanks to sparks and my trainers.

Hi. I have been working this program since January 2 and have been really good. Lost 11 pounds so far, although I am kind for stalled the past week or so. I never had weight problems and ate whatever I wanted, so when my metabolism slowed down after changing medications for bipolar disorder I just kept on eating like I always had. Every year it was a few pounds and one day I woke up and was 190 pounds. I really started to have a poor self image, and just could not force myself to stay on a healthy diet. All my favorite things to do involved sitting on my big butt, reading, knitting, watching movies, and playing on the computer, I started the gaining when I turned about 40 and now it is 18 years later. I am doing everything right so far, exercising, eating right and resisting the temptations at the grocery store. I still have at least 40 pounds to lose, but I am determined to keep this up until I feel better and lower my cholesterol. I will be thrilled just to get my knees to not hurt when I walk. I know that I would not have managed the past 6 weeks without Spark People. Thank you to everyone who shares on these boards. I do not feel alone anymore.

WOW. I have fallen before, but nothing what you went through. KUDO's to you for your activity too. I am extrovert when I am in charge, but introvert when it comes to doing something by myself and I know no one. My Group Health insurance allows me to go to the local gym at no charge, but I am too introverted to go. I use to work for Jack LaLanne and manage health spas, but again, I am all alone as far as girlfriends go and stay at home the majority of the time. Again, congratulations on what you have overcome.

i have not been on for a few days and so when i got on today i saw there are a lot of new members...i need to not be so busy! i am a really slow loser so every quarter pound i can lose and keep off is a source of victory for me! welcome to the newbies..and that injury from over doing it..been there but i belong to a studio with personal trainers now and they have caught me several times doing something i should not..the mantra is "modify"...at this age i can injure my self easily. I joined the studio after i fell several times, once down my stairs...and since then no accidents as i get stronger. I do pilates, weights, bands, the ball big and small and i walk at least 3 times a week when the weather is not sucky...as it is right now. who would ever think deep southern texas would get snow? Since moving here i have seen it several times...hoorah for a texas summer!

I am a short person so extra weight really shows up! I was really active on the Provida Forum for several years and was at goal weight a couple of times. I actually met my goal the first time using Atkins and lo-carb and realized that it was harder to lose it the second time around for some reason with lo-carb.

Using the Spark tools will certainly be healthier in the long run!! I can already tell a difference just eating better this week.

My goals are to make it below 130 before my birthday this year in June. That is a 2 pound weight loss a week which is doable. However, I am not going to beat myself up if I don't make it. I want this to be a lifelong way of life that I don't have to stop once I do make it where I need to be.

My reasons for losing weight? Better self-image, better health, more energy and I WANT TO TIE MY SHOES WITHOUT HUFFING AND PUFFING AND CONTORTING. HA!

Hi I live in the deep freeze of Michigan. Lost 5.5 lbs using WW and Spark People. Love this forum and love Spark People. Just injured myself by exercising too vigorously and trying to figure out some low impact exercise. Total weight loss right now is 24 lbs., and 28 to go. Can't wait to see the cute clothing I can wear and how I feel when I am finished. emoticon

Hi all
I live in Queensland Australia. Today I joined sharkpeople and made an appointment with a personal trainer. Goal initially is to loose 25 kg and get fitter stronger and healthier. Lots of personal work and family issues have taken their toll in the last decade. Time to turn it around. Going to take it slow and steady.

Hi folks. I joined this group a long time ago, but have been away for so long, I can't remember if I ever did made an introduction. Anyway, it's a new day, and a new commitment, and I plan to be here more often. Been on the weight loss merry-go-round longer than I can remember. I turn 53 this year, and am very tired of being obese so I did something drastic. Don't know if anyone has heard of StickK.com, but they will hold you accountable if you don't meet your goals by sending an amount of money you designate to a charity you loathe if you don't meet your weekly goals. And there's no backing out. So pulling out all the stops this time. Very motivated to make real, lasting change! I actually have 53 pounds to lose, but hope to be in the 25-49 category very soon. Happy to be here and Hi to everyone! emoticon

Hi everyone.

I'm new to all this so bear with me! I have joined because I want to lose weight and get fitter. I haven't been well recently and my weight has rocketed while I've been at home all day. I'm hoping to get back to work soon so I feel motivated to do something about it. Also, I am going on a special holiday this summer and want to look as good as I can.

Please can someone tell me how to add the tracker bar to the bottom of my messages?

Hi everyone.
I'm Amina, and as soon as I saw the Spark People program I jumped at the chance to get rid of all the excess weight I've gained recently. Moving house a few months ago left me totally exhausted both mentally and physically, and unlike previous moves I didn't bounce back within a week or so. Too tired to cook, to unmotivated to shop for decent food, I took the easy way out by living on take away foods, slices of cheesecake and chocolates. Not good for anyone's health, but the excess weight further aggravated my osteoarthritis, and although it didn't seem to affect my elevated blood pressure to any great degree, I realize it was only a matter of time till it did.
It's time I started taking responsibility for my actions, so this is Day One of the new me! I know it isn't going to be a smooth ride, that there will be a few bumpy times along the journey, but it is one I have to take, and take willingly, if I want to live life the way it's meant to be lived.

Amina.

Hello - I joined because I'm turning 50 in a couple of months and have noticed in the last year how much harder it is to get the weight off and keep it off. A stressful situation in November was the start of my regaining 15 lbs I had worked so hard over the summer to lose. So I decided it was time to do something about my sluggish metabolism. I joined a gym and Sparkpeople!

Hi, I am 54 years old and I am at my highest weight, ever! I was a weight watchers member and lost 30 pounds when I turned 50, but somehow they have come back, and I am so uncomfortable, I can't fit into any of my clothes!

I am so fascinated with Spark People! Right now I am motivated and I know I can lose 30 pounds again. There is so much information here, and all of you are helping me so much. My goal is to be at goal by summer, our anniversary July 30th.

My closet is calling me.......

My name is Melissa and I'm in Oklahoma City - right in the middle of the country. I'm a 56 year old widow with 2 sons in college and I'm ready to get in shape! I've already lost about 50 pounds and want to shed 25 more by my birthday - mid May. I want to look better, fit into smaller clothes (can you say, "shopping"?) and be healthier. I think sparkpeople will provide the motivation I need to get moving! emoticon

Day by day I am making smart, healthy choices that are moving me toward my weight loss goal.

Good morning everyone! My name is Nancy and this is my second attempt at Sparkpeople. Since food has always been a comfort and source of enjoyment for me I have struggled with weight most of my life. This past year has been challenging for me with some family stuff and of course I used that as an excuse to overeat. Want to lose 30 pounds by the summer so that I can have more energy and feel better. I must admit I am having a tough time getting started again. I hope to be more successful this time. Last time I never used the communities for support and home maybe that was one piece I was missing.Hope everyone has a great weekend. Would love to find someone to help nudge me along and get me going.

Hello Curtis,
I hope you are still here at Sparks and I hope you are doing well...I don't know if this will help, but my personal plan is to change my workout every 3 weeks so my body doesn't get to use to the same routine. I hope this helps and if you want to talk it out you can talk to me. I also would be happy to talk to anyone on this team , we all need outside motivation sometimes !!

Hello,
My name is Taz , I am 51 and have spent the last 15 yrs gaining and losing weight (due to unfortunate events and menopause) I have tired of that ! Not that I expect to return to a size 3 ever again I would like to get healthy and back in shape so I can enjoy my grandchildren! So far I have been keeping to my goals for the last 3 days and have lost 3 lbs...probably water weight, but I'll take it ! :) I had previously joined Sparks, but I defeated myself by setting unattainable goals, this time I thought it through and have made changes that I can accomplish and add to as I improve... I should have known better the first time, as I was quite athletic growing up, and in the end I gave up because I couldn't complete my goals and saw no results. I am wiser and better prepared this time and I believe success is within my reach !

Hi Everyone! I'm Dee Dee. I'm 50 yrs. old and have been struggling with my weight my entire life. I had gastric bypass surgery in 2001 and even though it took several years I eventually lost all of my weight. I am now starting to put it back on. I gained 13 lbs. over the holiday season and at am an all-time high post surgery weight at 173.7 lbs. I have fallen into the compulsive eating pattern again and find that all I think about is food when I am not eating. I am looking forward to being part of a group and getting and giving encouragement!

Have a great day!

Hello, my name is Lorraine and I turned 70 last year. I have lost weight before here on Sparkpeople but have gained it back. It looks like we are in the same boat for sure. It is so hard to stay focus here in Chicago with our cold and snowy weather. My body wants to eat and hibernate. I have cut almost everything, dairy, sugar, white flour, cereal etc. I would like to break this lose 2 lbs, gain 2 lbs cycle.

Hi, I'm Angel and I am trying to just get healthier. I have changed to an ovo-lacto vegetarian diet, and I'm starting an exercise routine. I want to lose 35 pounds, but I'm not putting any limits on it. Whenever I try to go too fast, I always fail, so I'm taking it slow and steady this time. I have lupus, so that presents some physical challenges, but I'm hoping that this lifestyle change will help with that.
