Sorry for your loss Callmelee, it seems some people stop eating all together when tragedy hits and others like me gain high stress and can not stop eating.

I wish you the best on your journey to a healthier and happier you :)

I just joined. I have been looking for the right group for a while now. I used to have my own group here several years ago and although we are all still great friends, we are not longer a health and fitness support group.

A little about me. I have been studying health and fitness for many many years. Even went to college to be a Personal Trainer at one time. I am a freelance photographer and live in the midwest but trying to relocate back to Tucson AZ.

I was a natural bodybuilder in my 40's and at age 47 was in the best shape of my life. I had lost 55 pounds over 4 years time and just felt great! Then the bubble burst. My husband and sister both died of cancer, I was entering peri menopause was downsized from my job I loved and moved back to Illinois to be close to my aging parents. So all these major changes caused me to over eat due to stress, and I gain back my weight. No matter how much I exercises I could not keep the weight from coming back on. It took 5 years to gain it back. I must get some weight off again.

Being post menopause now I am dealing with some Endocrine issues. I am into holistic nutrition and little by little regaining my energy. I have low Vit D issues as well. So working to improve on that too.

I am a prescetarian who doesn't eat much cow diar (just a little cheese from time to time) I only eat eggs that come from organic small back yard farms.

I have 2 children, my daughter is 28 and lives in Tucson. My son is 23 and lives with me. I have 1 dog, 3 indoor cats and 5 outdoor cats.

I hope to get to know everyone here, and will just jump in :)

Goals

Drop 25 pounds and regain my energy and strength

Hi Lee.
WELCOME BACK. Losing any pounds is a good thing. So pay yourself on the back for the 7.5. I don't diet (I'm not dying). I livett (I'm living). The twist in words help me out. Eating out is a calorie nightmare. I too have had an order come out of my mouth and when I get home berate myself for being naughty. Hmmm - naughty is so much fun. emoticon

I have pushed my goal to May, 2018. My healthy weight with healthy eating and an exercise routine weekly. emoticon I'll be 66 and do not want to spend anymore time fretting over weight. Baby steps is how I'm doing this. My natural personality is to guzzle - life, food, alcohol, good times, staying to long at places. Yep! emoticon I Guzzle.

Each day I keep that date in mind and work one small thing in that is a lifetime change. PORTIONS are my biggest problem. So I use small 1/2 cup bowls at home everyday. I went out for lunch and had natcho's piled with blacked beans. So good. But I'm so proud of myself because I brought 3/4's of the meal home. Kudos to me!

I think you get the ticker tape on your Spark page. If you can't find it there, post the question in search above and it will help with most things on Spark People.

Anyhow, Well come back! Don't beat yourself up over one Applebee meal. Drink a bit more water with a touch of lemon.

emoticon Chris

Building my bucket list and enjoying the ones I've accomplished!!!
I quit smoking and have visited 34 out of 50 states, went to Disneyland in 2014 for the first time, had African lobster in 2014, and went to second hand stores in Laguna Beach Cal.
Enjoyed a Thanksgiving Dinner in 80 degree weather in Cal. For the first time.

Six weeks during March and April of 2015, I completed four times a week with a trainer. Wow! at the age of 63!

Hi,
I'm Barb, age 65. I've been faithfully tracking my food and activities on SP for over a year. I've lost about 54 pounds, and have another 50 to lose. So I'm looking for a new group to join, where there are folks who have been at this for a while.
Basically, I make sure my calories in are less than my calories out. No fancy gimics, special food, or fads. Just basic tracking. It works for me.
I go to Jazzercise 5-6 mornings a week. I walk most evenings. On Saturday mornings I put in a 3 mile walk to finish up the week. I am wearing a Spark on my shoe. I try to stay over 7,000 steps per day.
I'm doing this for me. I sat behind a computer for 12 years, and got horribly fat and unfit. I've retired, and within 3 weeks of my last day at work, I starting to move again. My husband has a heart condition, and will need surgery in the next 4-5 years. I need to be in good shape to help him out. Plus I want to do some hiking in the Tuscany region of Italy. I've got to get myself in top condition.
My doctor is ecstatic with my progress so far. Slow and steady. All my health indicators are excellent except the weight. And it's getting better. I'm looking to drop my BMI below 30. I figure that will happen next summer. I should be dropping below 200 lbs in the next 10 days!
If you share any of these sentiments, contact me through my Spark Page.
Hugs,
Barb

Hi Everybody!! emoticon

My mood and energy level is pretty good . It's been a week and I lost ten pounds emoticon with the first phase of the fat flush plan. One more week of this phase then on to phase 2. I have not added much exercise in the last week. Did walk two days several miles, but nothing like the gym. My goal this week is to get to the gym one day. emoticon

Reading the fat flush book helps more than any other book with the ideas in the book long term. I have been wanting something I can follow from now till death do me part. At the age of 63, I'm a bit worn out with the roller coaster of weight. emoticon

The biggest hurdle for me to get over is restless legs syndrome. The medication isn't doing it's job. I'm up some days until 3-4 am and up 12-1 pm. emoticon So I'm unable to get a sleep schedule of up at 9 am and to sleep 12 am. That's the schedule I want to create. Not making excuses, but That Is What Has Put A Wrench in the last week. I know the livett I'm using is not the cause of RLS. It's a problem for the last 20 years, but worse after chemo.

I'm trying to get to the goal of one day stregnth training emoticon and another day cardio training emoticon using zumba. But can't get it together with the crazy sleep pattern.

Sure would like to know how you all are doing. My goal is to check in once a week. Team members we can all do this and work on maintaining once we get to our target weight. emoticon I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with you.

Sening Angels to all of you to help you along the way - emoticon

Hi Cindy, Crista, and all the others on this forum!
I had BC in 2007-08. 20% of my lymph nodes removed had cancer, so I have been trying to find a safe diet for the lymph nodes. The lymphatic system rides the body of toxic waste, bacteria, heavy metals, dead cells, trapped protein and fat globules. (information from "The Fat Flush Plan" by Ann Louise Gittlema, M.S., C.N.S.). So I started her plan to flush the system of fat which also cleans out the lymph node system.I drink a lot of unsweetened cranberry juice deluted with water. It's only been 3 days and I lost 3 pounds.

Mentally I feel good about finding a plan to clean out my body. I still have 3 years on my meds for the BC and have worked tiredlessly to lose the weight. So alittle help is nice.
emoticon because it helps us feel good in the long run and look pretty good too!

emoticon Christa Let's work together on this forum and see what ideas work for each of us and not be afraid to say"mmmm-think twice about that".

Looking forward to hearing from you all!

Hello there, my goal is to stick to an exercise programe and to really watch the calories. Had some health issues that caused me to not be able to exercise for about 3 months. I'm back on track, starting again and taking it slow. :) Oh, I gained back almost everything I had lost in those 3 months.

My goal is to be at 135 pounds by the age of 66 which is May, 2018. Not only at that weight but having the habits be a natural way of life. Eating small portions along with daily gym visits, at least one stregnth head to toe and one cardio a week. This may seem like small goals in the long run but I'm tired of weight issues.

I have been livetting (I'm living, not dieing, diet) for 40 years. It is getting harder for me to get motivated. I refuse to buy larger clothes sizes, so my outfits are limited. Yet I have a wealth of fun interesting age appropriate outfits calling out my name. "Chris, Chris over here. I'm brand new never worn. Chris, Chris remember the fun we had in this outfit." I actually have boxes marked extra fat clothesand fat clothes. I want to fill them again and keep them there until death do I part.

Okay, that's why I enjoy Spark People.

Hi Cindy,
I learned from a wise Italian woman years ago that black licorice can help the symptoms during menopause and when my daughters were teenagers during their cycle. I cut strips of licorice into one ince pieces and had it in a jar on the counter. When a daughter had PMS I would point to the jar. Both are in their 40's now and still use small pieces of black licorice.

I can relate to the frustration of putting back a portion of the weight lost. In 2011 I lost 60 lbs. I looked and felt great. Then in May 2012 I get colon issues, nothing serious just something the doctors can't figure out. Pain pills put weight on. Finally a doctor gave me a med which worked in July. Just getting comfortable and in Oct. 2012 I get a sharp pain in the collar bone area. Back on pain pills and I would not have an appointment to see the professional doctor until 2/13. December, 2012 I end up in hospital with chest pain and at that time I complained to my doctor about my 2/13 appointment and angry at the long time to see the necessary doctor. Fortunately I had anziety and not a heart attack. Whew! Saw a doctor in early 1/13 and now I'm off pain pills. BUT up 30 pounds. Depression put an added ten, so now 40.

It's now 2015 and I have been on a roller coaster of up and down 3-4 pounds. So hand in there and be determined to do this. emoticon Look at your exercise goals the last thing before bed and first thing in the morning. And your smart to catch it at 25 pounds. Just give yourself some days during this body change fun and a pat on the back each time you exercise or eat that low cal meal.

Plus emoticon , emoticon , emoticon it's the best thing you can do during this time.

Hi, My name is Cindy--I turn 50 in September.

Three years ago, I dropped 50 pounds and kept it off for a year. Then menopause hit and I regained 25 pounds. For me, menopause is a game-changer because the tools I used to initially lose weight are no longer effective. I'm also struggling with fatigue. I went in for a physical but they did not find a cause.

I am feeling very discouraged because not only do I want to lose the 25 pounds I regained, but the additional 15 pounds I need to lose to hit goal. My restart is small; I'm recording everything I eat. I'm committing to walking 30 minutes 4-5x a week and increasing my intake of fruits and vegetables.

As I get older, not only do I want to look good--I want to feel healthy and energetic. I am here because I do not want to go this alone and menopause brings unique challenges that are not discussed elsewhere.

Hi, I am Christa, a 50 year old vegetarian and recovering binge eater.

My reasons are to stop being dependent on sugar and junkfood, to feel better, to heal from physical complaints so I can move with ease.

My goals are to lose - as a start - 22 lbs.
My program:
- avoid sugar and junkfood as well as I can, aiming for at least 21 days of being sugar- and binge free for now.
- Exercise (walking / biking) at least 30 minutes per day.
- Do yoga 3x per week and ST exercises (15 minutes) 5x per week
- Have a green smoothie and a salad for lunch every day.

To KMF2014 ... Actually, 5 pounds per month is an excellent steady-state and realistic rate to aim for. Good luck to you and keep at it! "No matter how small the baby-steps, you are still WAY ahead of the couch potatoes!" emoticon

My "reasoning" is different this time around ... and so is my approach. I am the proud owner of a new recumbent-style stationary bike emoticon , and I am only using the Calories Burned indicator on it "to make sure my pace doesn't slack off during the ride"

Soo ... officially my goal is to lower my cholesterol by burning through 30 mins or more of sweat per (most) days - plus free-weights 2 x / week emoticon which should help with the measurements. Between the two, I figure the weight should start taking care of itself. (I am only just starting to look into cholesterol - lowering portable breakfast and lunch options -- so that will aslo help but is not a main focus at this time)

I have been overweight for almost my whole life. But I had improved my eating habits and had lost 10 pounds a year ago and kept it off. Well, I noticed I had gotten into bad habits again- eating salty stuff (which I don't even like), eating too much, not exercising regularly.
But the wake up was when I had a bad cholesterol reading. I have always had enough good cholesterol, but on my last test I didn't.
So, I have to re-lose the 10 pounds I lost and then I would like to see if I really can be successful in getting lower.

I had left SP for the summer - downsizing on time spent on the computer and all that - but soon realized I needed the accountability. So here I am sitting at the computer, but "feeling" the discipline and the accountability that it gives me. I had one of those horrible "aha" moments about two weeks ago: I was attempting to get dressed for church, and I think I tried on every dress and skirt that I had in my closet - and once I was able to get them zipped, and looked in the mirror, I felt like I looked like an elephant in every one of them. I knew right then, I had to seriously get back to taking better care of myself. At this age (yeah, slowed metabolism), I knew it could quickly get worse unless I changed some of my bad habits. So I've quickly lost a few pounds, and am participating in a 5-pound challenge in July. Doesn't sound like that much, but I know it's all in the baby steps that it will happen. But we can do this, right? Let's all be an encourager to each other, and we'll all get some of those goals met!! emoticon emoticon Here's to Good Health everyone!!

Hi. I'm 65...started spark people in 2013 I think and was 247. Gave up for quite awhile and now have been back since May 21st. I'm at 227.4 and should feel good about that but it's hard when you're older...metabolism is just not as high.
I walk a lot everyday and watch my calories and have my ups and downs but generally feeling good about myself.
On May 20th I was in a group picture and saw myself for the first time in 6 years...to me I looked old and fat!!!!
So May 21st kicked back into gear.
My goals are to have no back pain...started 5 months ago...
Be able to fit into a size 16 and go to regular clothing stores and buy "cute" clothes
And to have more energy during my day.
It projects me to reach all that by November 2015 so I can be patient...

I will be 50 this September so since this journey is a long one, I'm categorizing myself in the 50+ members emoticon

I have my Spark Tracker and I'm enjoying it so far. I park farther from the store than I used to, just so I can get more steps in lol. I know every little bit helps!

I do my best not to be so critical about myself and the weight I have gained back. But I have my moments where I just feel like I'm beating my head against the wall.

I've eaten the small 5x a day meals, nothing out of a box or can, counting calories, starving myself, you name it I've done it. I can't seem to find my happy medium. I'm back at the gym taking classes and striving to continue with that. However, when you read about people watching what they are eating and they lose a pound here or a pound there, it is very hard to read. I am so very happy for those individuals and what they are accomplishing, etc.

I've had blood tests to see if my thyroid is functioning properly. I've was put on Phentermine for approximately 3 months and lost 10 pounds right off the bat. But knowing that this was a quick fix and not sustainable and certainly not good for me, I stopped taking them. I guess my biggest frustration is trying to find what works with my body in which it will respond to the fuel I am giving it. I know that the stress has a lot to do with weight loss, and I've eliminated a lot of stressful things and people from my life.

I look at myself in the mirror and just feel like throwing in the towel! I'm trying to stay positive with the little daily goals that I achieve BUT it is just so very hard sometimes to not get frustrated!

I am so very happy with my life right now and how things are going, with the exception of how I look!

Writing on my blog daily I feel helps for me to put my feelings out there so I can own them. So I know that I'm going in the right direction. I just would love for my body to follow! emoticon

Hey everybody. I'm Denise and am a former Sparkpeople member. It's been a lot of years, but I think I was even a member of this group back then. Anyway, I want to lose some weight and I remembered how well this worked before to keep me motivated. I'm lucky that my health is good (so far), but my clothes could fit better and I could definitely use more energy. So that's where my goals are...to lose a little weight and get more active. And I'm looking forward to getting to know some of you in the process.

Hello I am Beverly. I was recently diagnosed with pre-diabetes. I have high cholesterol as well as Fibromyalgia and Fatigue. I was recently on blood pressure meds but my doctor just took me off these (yaye!). I am wanting to change my diet/lifestyle as my doctor told me if I loose weight and the way I eat I may be able to head off the diabetes. I have a wonderful life with an amazing husband, two beautiful children and my first grandbaby (grandson) who will be two in September. I have problems with exercising due to Fibromyalgia and fatigue, but have recently started counting my steps with a activity tracker. I want to try and cut back (down to 25 or less grams a day) on my sugar, cut out gluten, cut down on the diary (to see if I am lactose intolerant). I plan to try and eat mainly lean proteins, fruits and vegetables. I also want to remove processed foods from my diet as well. My goal is to loose between 20-40 pounds by the end of October 2015 as my son is getting married at this time. I need all the tips and encouragement you can give to me!!

My brother just had a heart catheterization after having had chest pains. This led to three stents being placed in two arteries, one of which was 95% blocked. He HAS to start eating better. Since I am overweight I am going to do the same. Both of our parents had heart issues so we are genetically predisposed to the same. My brother now has a new start, but I am fairly sure that because of the way I've been eating, I have arteries that are also clogged.

So I am going to eat well, exercise, and do everything I can to reverse or prevent any more damage to my heart. I have had no chest pains or other symptoms, but I don't want any.

I have been on Spark People before, and am glad to be back.

Hi! My name is Claire. I joined SparkPeople in 2009 and lost 30 pounds over about 9 months, and since that time have gained it all back. At 52 I feel like it's a losing battle. But that's just what it is...A LOSING BATTLE! Ha!

Welcome back Suze2014. I, too, am back after a long and difficult hiatus. I've been feeling winded and I've gained way too much weight back. I heard Christiane Northrup on PBS this morning and she said that our health and weight are influenced by friends and family up to 4 degrees of separation. This extends over the miles as well. I thought that was so true. When I look around, even though none of us lives together, many of my friends and family are overweight.

I'm back after a long hiatus. Not a good hiatus.... But, the important thing is I'm starting again. I am borderline diabetic, uggh. I guess it is now or never. Thanks for listening. emoticon

I want to lower my blood pressure. I want to have more energy. The more I lose, the better I feel. The better I feel the more I can exercise.

First of all I want to lower my blood pressure; then I want to move easier and have more energy.
Problem is that I hate exercising, but I started walking, so hopefully I'll see some improvement. emoticon emoticon

I'm new. I'm just entering mental pause and my middle is out of control along with the hormones. I'm tired of the yo-yo. I'm tired of not being comfortable in my own skin. I'm tired of looking in the mirror and being shocked. I'm tired. So enough. Enough is enough. its time to focus on me. But more importantly, its time to keep the focus on me. I have dang near 50 pounds to lose. That is crazy. I want em off and I want em to stay off. For good.

I want to finish what I started last year. I was down 37 lbs. until knee surgery set me back. Regained 15 lbs. and can't walk like before. Bought a spinning bike and slowly getting back into gear. I want clean eating to be a lifestyle for me, not just another diet (I've done so many I can't count!!). My goal is to lose about 45 lbs. to be at a healthy weight and relieve some arthritic pain. I tend to be impatient...so I need help to take this one day at a time.

Everything starts one step at a time...just like there was never a car and then one day we all are driving without a horse and carriage. I hope you are feeling better and glad you took a step to help yourself. This is my first day trying to commit to exercise. I have had some health issues but am doing better one step at a time. My daughter is young and has had kidney stones, severe scoliosis, repeated pneumonia and other undefined ongoing health issues. She loves to run and play volleyball but is taking a break til she feels better. She was on meds that made her lose weight. As she lost weight, I tried to keep her fed and also ate. I am hoping she returns to a healthy body for a 27 year young lady and I have the will power to care about my body as well. Walked ran today about 45 min. and loved the beautiful weather. emoticon Good luck and hoping your pain goes away and both our cholesterol comes down one step at a time.

HI!
Just joined this evening. If you look at my ticker it's pretty obvious why I need to lose some pounds. Better health. Cholesterol, not bad but could be a lot better. Same with blood pressure.

I'm on a rest from much exercise right now due to a severe back pain and sciatica. Hopefully it settles soon. Sciatica is always worse at night so that's why I'm up so late. I can slowly resume my exercise program after pain subsides. Will be seeking advice from a professional first on what and what not to do. Losing excess weight is probably one of the best things I can do for my back. I know this, but pain = frustration for me and that leads to emotional eating. Makes no sense I know. It's a vicious cycle.

These are some pretty good reasons to want to get the lbs. off.

I am 54 years old, studying nutritional medicine and a diploma in business. Hoping to find a permanent job, but not having much luck. My health is good, I have high blood pressure and am on tablets for that (runs in the family), my cholesterol is the lowers it has been for ages, but am on medication for that as well (that also runs in the family), the doctor said that I just need to be doing what I am doing because my blood work is really good. I could do with losing 10kgs though (22 Ibs)

My health is good right now and I want to stay healthy but I have started bad habits in the last couple of years I need to change. One, I am sitting in front of the TV too much watching it with my husband, he wants me in the same room as him (starting Alzheimer's).
Two, I'm eating too much starch.
I'm starting to correct this and have lost 2 lbs. in one month. Slow but progress. Now I have another reason I would like to look my best. My daughter which lives two states away has invited me to her 35 wedding anniversity party. I don't have much time for that because it is at the last of May. I'll aim for at least 5 lbs. off by then. I have 30 lbs. in all I need to lose and several inches off my waist.
I feel confident I can lose it with this program if I keep on trying.

My goal is to get back down to what I weighed in my thirties (140 - 145 pounds). I was healthier and didn't have the cholesterol problems. I'm hoping losing weight will help with the arthritis in my knees and hips. emoticon

Hi! I am here because i have let myself gain back 25 pounds over the past 2 years. I lost weight with another group and kept it off for almost a year. I am not good at maintaining weight but have managed to maintain this weight of 20+ pounds!! I want to learn how to stop the "all or nothing" approach to weight loss that i have perfected over the years! I am either losing or gaining, nothing in-between! I love that Spark People has a plan for maintaining the weight loss. Carrying around this extra weight makes me very uncomfortable with my appearance, makes running really tough and makes me feel discouraged about the control food has over me!
Today was the first day in a long time that i stuck to healthy eating ALL DAY and decided to start over with couch to 5k running program. I am feeling happy and hopeful! Onward!! P.S. I am 56 years old.

Turned 51 earlier this week (or the 22nd anniversary of my 29th birthday as Hubster says) and I've lost 9.5lbs since 16th Feb so feeling good.

I need to lose the weight as it's really depressing me. I'm generally upbeat but the weight is making me glum. I can't dance about like I used to, without getting out of breath. Cycling keeps me fit-ish but not dancing fit. Another 8lbs and I'll get into a Zumba class or similar. I know that I'm not too big to join a class, I just want a little less weight to haul about.

I need to lose another 27.5lbs now. Which is not a lot in the grand scheme of things, but I was a real racing whippet until 2000 and it's snuck on and on and on.

Blessed are the cracked for it is those who let in the light.

Wow! I dont feel alone anymore. Just read the posts and think this is a great group! My goals are to start exercising again and keep monitoring what I eat. If I log my diet I keep pretty well on track. So now I just have to get out of this sedentary rut. My goal is to lose 25 pounds.

IL2L2BG and Kathy: Welcome (back) to Spark People and to this team! I think so many of us are in this same boat, having lost, not having the dedication to keep it off, gaining the weight back, and now starting anew. I've certainly been there. We're all in this together - and we can all do it this time!! It certainly does help me to know that there are others who understand the battle. Let's make everyday a "Day 1" with the excitement of a new day where we can make the changes that will make the difference this time!! emoticon

Hi everyone
I am an off and on member of SP. The program is great, I have lost a good amount of weight in the past but I am just not consistant enough to keep the weight off. My goal is to lose at least 50 lbs. I have high blood sugar now and I just had to get a pacemaker emoticon . I am really bummed about that. Still have 3 more weeks until I am able to lift my left arm to wash my hair. I just joined a challenge at my gym and I want to boost it with SP to keep me on track, accountability and most of all SUPPORT. I am not on sugar medicine at this time and I do NOT want to be. I was on sugar medicine and I think that is what damaged my heart, so my goal is to lose the weight so that there is no chance for me to be on medicine for diabetes. I am 52 years old, married 28 of those years, a 21year old son and a 3 week new heart. I work at a middle/high school for special needs so I am pretty active. I am ready to lose.

Hi I am new to Sparkpeople, I joined to drop the extra pounds I am sick of carrying around. I am midlife and I want my life to be free of high blood pressure and aches and pains. I am a positive person and want to be encouraged and want to encourage others in this lifestyle change. I love the educational articles and exercise videos. If I can learn it, I can do it. When I started I didn't even know what a plank was. So far I have seen the results. I dropped 10 pounds. At first I read the articles to get my points. Now I can see how they change the way I think and give me information I need to succeed. Today I am happy. When I reach my next goal I will be happier. emoticon

Oh, I like how you said that, EWOBLU! Sounds like a good mantra to me:
"Embracing my reality to change it!"
It's nice to know someone understands!! Thanks a whole bunch for replying, I was feeling kind of discouraged, but you've helped! It definitely all starts with being honest with ourselves, doesn't it? And change is possible!!

I know what you mean... I did the math yesterday and it said BMI 30 which is official obese and a heart risk. That is MY reality. I decided I had to embrace it to change it! It is Not Me... It is a condition of me...

Long term goal is to lose 45 pounds. Short term goal is to lose 15 by end of April. Why? Because I get so tired of seeing pictures of myself and realize how I've continued to lie to myself saying that I'm not that overweight, that the charts don't really take into account my (whatever). My knees hurt because of degeneration... not really, they hurt because I'm carrying too much weight. I'm tired of lying to myself saying that I don't really eat that much.. uh, yeah, I DO eat that much, and too much of it is unhealthy eating. I get lots of exercise in my regular lifestyle... Yes I do get more than some, but what about the hours I can spend zoning out in front of the computer? I'm tired of lying to myself - How's that for a reason to lose weight??

I am more new than not. Learning to make a better living strategy. I want to reclaim a decent level of fitness. I want to be able to run 5K races. I have decided that post menopause, genetically disposed, and culturally enabled... If I don't become active, I'll be overweight forever! I also think in good conscience, I can't lead my daughter down an unhealthy road. I want to set a good example. I want to feel alive and ready for adventure!

Hi group! I am back on this site again...tried Medical weight loss but did not loose much but money. Ugh. I hope to learn lifestyle changes that will get me to my goal. I want to be healthier. I have high cholesterol and my blood pressure and sugar is boarder line high so that is not good for the long run. I have 3 grand children that I want to be able to to see grow up and I am afraid that if I don't take control of my health I will risk loosing that opportunity. Thanks for listening!

I see you have already lost 17 pounds! Congratulations! My main goal for being a part of Spark People is to improve my health. I have tried to lose weight on my own for years with no success. Logging my diet and exercise is making me really think about my food choices and exercises. Great program!

My short term goal is to be able to dance again. I want to lose 36 pounds by 9/2015. So far I haven't lost anything, I've gained. I don't think I am measuring correctly. I am going to get better measuring equipment and keep trying. I have been on spark before but if I gained I would get discouraged and quit. I am determined to continue this time.

Life is all about choices and I choose to make good ones.

Goal: To lose 45 pounds

Reasons: To improve my self-respect
To (being truthful) look better, I guess that would be called pride
To be the person God created me to be - excess weight definitely gets in the road of that.

First, let me say how sorry I am for your loss.

Welcome (or welcome back) and congrats on taking this first step in your journey to health! I'm down about 14 pounds since I started SP, and the changes have been great for my spirit and my well-being. I'm sure you'll find similar results if you put your mind to it.

If you need any tips or tricks, just let us know!

Welcome RipleyBird! Be sure to read the articles on nutrition and try some of the fitness videos. There is no such thing as "spot reducing," and you'll be disappointed when the ab exercises don't fix the muffin. Take it slow and steady, eat healthy, and it will disappear. Good luck!

I always fall back into bad habits too. I'm counting on SP to not only help me take the weight off, but keep it off forever. Having "accountability buddies" sure helps!

my problem is just not to lose weight but to keep it off.I stuggle with compulsive/binge eating.I'm trying to eat healthier even though I have to admit I'm worst than a teen when it comes to wanting to eat crappy foods.I work in a high school cafateria which doesn't help.

I too lost the weight I wanted to three years ago. My husband became seriously ill and I did a lot of stress eating I now weigh more than I did before the illness. So now in order to better care for him I need to get more fit and lose some of the weight baggage.

Hi-
I've been a sparker since 2008. I finally lost all my weight I wanted in 2011....that 35 pounds came off oh so slowly. I've been very active physically (I run 5 times a week) and the problem with me is, I enjoy eating too much. I have a 155 pound appetite when I need a 135 pound one.

So, this year I am really focusing on getting in touch with why I eat, how much I eat...and that's why I want to be part of this group and meet some new folks.

Hi, my name is Monica. I have rejoined Spark to help me to reach my goal to rediscover the strong, healthy, confident, and resilient self. I originally discovered this self when I was in my early 40's and lost 150 lbs through healthy eating and exercise. I did well for 8 years until injury, chronic pain, and work issues when I slipped back into old bad habits.

Last April, I had put back on 95 lbs and I no longer recognized myself. I joined another online weight loss plan and lost 50 lbs, but the program had no community nor the resources of Spark. Wow, Spark has changed all for the better since the last time I was a member. I'm very excited to be back and look forward to participating with this team.

Hi! My name is Karen. Apparently I joined Spark in 2012 but never came back! My doctor recommended this site (pre-diabetic and depression). My problem is that I have little motivation to get started. I know once I do start I will feel better. I am divorced and have one grown son who is out on his own. Just had to put my best four legged buddy down (cancer) and moved into a new apartment in a new community. Guess I don't do anything in a small way! Also I am in graduate school which makes me feel rather alienated being around all those twenty somethings. I definitely want to meet others with whom I can create nurturing supportive relationships with. Anyone game?

Hi all. I'm really glad the holidays are over and I can return to my discipline of eating clean and exercising. I took a break from taking care myself starting with Halloween. Ugh!!! I am looking forward to sticking with a plan of action and connecting with like-minded people. I want to lose 35 pounds by eating with humility, exercising moderately, and doing some weight training, since I am now 51. My health is good overall, and I want to keep it that way. I'm all for making new SP friends, so I hope to hear from you all! :) Have a wonderful 2015. I love odd numbered years! This is going to be a stellar year!

There are so many people on SP who prove that age has no bearing on our ability to get healthy and in shape! I am inspired every day.
