i lost 44 pounds by giving up sugar and grain products at age 61.

my sister lost 105 pounds at age 61 by walking 15000 steps a day.

Welcome, Sharon. I quit after having smoked for many decades. The hand to mouth habit is the hardest to break and I'm not sure we ever totally do. It's part of the reason we gain so much weight when we quit. There are techniques to help with it though, like putting a finger or two on your bottom lip and inhaling deeply (or inhaling through a cinnamon stick), then blowing the air out. Do it several times in a row and then practice breathing without the fingers. I found it helped with what I interpreted as food cravings but were really just the need to breath deeply. Good luck

emoticon Hi and emoticon , Sharon, from another Sharon. Please consider making this a lifestyle change instead of a diet. Dieting is not the answer because it doesn't teach us to eat properly, so when we stop dieting the pounds come piling back on and bring extra. Use the nutrition and fitness trackers and read as much of the available information to learn how to love and care for your body. Use the trackers to see where you need to make small changes to your lifestyle, changes that you can continue to live with. emoticon

My name is Sharon and I am 56 yrs old. 17 months ago after almost 40 yrs of smoking I quit. I got very sick and knew that if I did not quit I would not live very many more yrs. I would not go back to smoking for anything but now I have the weight. For a while I told myself that I would rather be a little overweight than smoke but now it is not a little it is about 30 to 35 lbs. I am 5'4 and weigh 170. I do not have any energy and really am starting to get depressed about my weight. I joined Sparkpeople yesterday and started the dieting again. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Looking forward to a new healther life.
