Hi, Margaret and welcome. Fifty pounds might seem like a lot but you don't have to wait until you've lost it all before you start seeing benefits. Just exercising every day will start to bring your blood pressure down and help with the apnea. And the same thing with the triglycerides and cholesterol. As soon as you start watching what you eat, they'll start to improve. Glad you've decided to join us.

Welcome. Glad you decided to do this sooner and not later. Besides the videos on this site, there is a lot of information on the Web about exercising with disabilities including videos on YouTube. PBS also has a program called Sit And Be Fit that's been around for years and is very good. Good luck.

@RobertMarilyn, thank you for the info. Yes, I am considered a low impact exerciser. I was walking at least a mile a day in my mountain community three months ago but something happened to cause it to hurt again and I am in pain if I do too much walking. I will definitely try the videos to get my strength back in my knees.

@Mybulldogs, Wow! I am impressed with both of your courage in doing this! Giving up grain helps me but it is catnip to me, so it will be hard... thanks for the encouragement! 15,000 steps a day... I can hardly imagine... way to go!

Marianne, Coach Nicole has a lot of videos on this site, that can be done while sitting in a chair. You could start with those if being on your feet is too much right now. And you can also start walking 5 or 10 minutes (or 1 or 2 minutes) at a time if that will help you build up to longer walks.

I had meniscus surgery two years ago too. So far it's holding up well. But it's true that the less we weigh, the less strain on our knees.

Hi, my name is Marianne and I am 63. I am choosing to join this for the need to lose weight due to osteoporosis in my knees. I had meniscus surgery 5 years ago and was told that knee replacement surgery would be inevitable, however, no insurance. I have found that when my weight is much lower, it doesn't bother me nearly as much.
I have two grandboys and really enjoy playing with them but my weight and knees have become a problem.
I also have a brother 10 years older than I am and we seem to share the same physical problems. He is currently grossly overweight and losing but health problems have cropped up due to so much weight carried. I see him and realize I need to get my weight under control sooner than later.
I realize this is a great group of people supporting each other and feel blessed to have found this group.
Congratulations to all who have been on this journey for awhile... the stories are amazing!
