SMALLERPORTION - I don't think there is any formula to walking. Most people try for 10,000 steps in a day, but I have no idea how many calories that burns, however depending on which pedometer you are using it may be able to give you that information.. It would probably depend on how fast you walked. Any activity that results in 3500 calories burned = 1 lb. lost.

WOW!!!! That is great progress. I am new to SP and am looking for some ideas to help me get started on this road to losing weight. Thanks for sharing this information, I will try the counting steps. Is there a formula to how many steps you need to walk to lose X number of pounds in a specific time frame? Just curious.... want to start off right.

I know what stress can do to weight! Long term illnesses are so hard on care givers. I am a flight nurse and have patient's for about an hour. I really had no idea how tired stress can make you until I went through it myself. It is a tired you cannot get over, so you don't want to exercise. Your heart hurts so you turn to places you were comforted before, God, friends and food. My friends didn't want to see me in such pain, God was there and I trusted Him, but honestly food made me think I felt better! Double wammy, no energy for exercise and bad food calling my name! I also have a horrible habit of baking when I am stressed and unfortunately I am a pretty good cook! I am not one who cries easily and didn't want to stress my family out, so I started walking. I live 1 mile from a cemetary. I would walk around the cemetary. It seeemed perfect. It was a safe place to walk and crying didn't seem out of place. I know you don't know me, but if you need someone to talk to, please feel free to email me. If I can't do anything else I can listen and let you know the emotions are normal. Please know there is a friend in Texas praying for you and your family!

I'm new also and have found some hope and counsel. I'm so sorry about your Mom. That is indeed a high stress for you, I'm sure. May you be comforted and given renewed hope that food can be managed in a healthy way. I know I need to learn that!

Hi Everyone, So happy to be part of this wonderful site. I have gained 20 pounds over the last couple of years after taking off 70 pounds and keep it off for 12 years. My hope is to lose the 20 and another 20 more. I so badly want to control this one part of my life. My biggest problem is binge eating at night due to stress over my mother being ill with dementia. I enjoy reading everyones success story. It makes me believe I can do it again too.
