Welcome and best of luck in your efforts to get healthy. I'm 52 - just finished my doctorate and realized that all that sitting had not been good for my health!!!
I'm slowly taking off what it took 7+ years to put on. Just keep at it and you can do it!

Hi Elizabeth - We are here to support you! I am 53 and was at my highest weight and that sent me back to SP again! :( I also have a dog who is a great walking buddy. One day at a time!
Hi, Elizabeth and welcome to Spark and to the team! You have just found yourself a whole bunch of accountability buddies right here
As a new member, here is my best advice - not complicated and it works: 1) Use your Nutrition Tracker faithfully, every single day, and print out the daily report on that page so you can make sure you are getting the proper balance of fats, carbs, and protein. This will keep you honest and accountable for your choices. Checking your report each day is critical - you want to make sure you are getting the right % of nutrients and not just eating empty calories. Remember, it is possible to stay within your calorie range eating "junk" but that isn't going to promote weight loss and it certainly won't maintain it in the long run ; 2) Find a few exercises/activities you actually ENJOY doing and then do them 3-4X a week. If you like what you are doing the chances are much better that you will stick with it ; 3) Stay active with your Team(s) because this is the place you will get encouragement, motivation, and support - including hugs on those days when things are especially tough! and; 4) Try to have fun with this journey to slimness and better health! It's a given that if you enjoy something you will stick with it!
Remember: it isn't important how fast or slowly you lose your weight. This is one area where 'slow and steady wins the race' is more then just some old cliche . Spark teaches you a new lifestyle and you need time to re-educate yourself and develop a new relationship with food
One last thought: you may want to consider creating a Spark Page for yourself so that your Spark Friends can send you messages and Spark virtual Goodies for fun and encouragement! Getting a friendly and supportive comment on your Spark Page, or receiving a Goodie can really make your day!

Hi, I'm new to Spark People. I am at nearly my highest weight ever, and I have to get it off! I'm hoping to find some Sparks friends to share encouragement, accountability, and the ups and downs of losing weight. I will be 53 next month, and my interests include exercising, quilting, dogs, and getting my health under control. I've had a lot of life changes in the last 6 months, but life is finally starting to settle down. I hope that I can provide encouragement and support to all of you on this team!!!
