I am back to checking sparkpeople. I have been getting emails from sparkpeople and keeping up on a few things but not on my individual tracker. Ready to go again.

Hi Marje and welcome to Spark and to the Team! emoticon I always tell everyone that I have tried almost every major weight loss organization, and every diet and fad diet known to man - and, yes, I did TOPS too emoticon Unfortunately, I didn't have much success with any of these things I tried. I also have been on and off Spark many times over several years, but I never really was "serious" before. Oh, I thought I was - but I wasn't emoticon I came back to Spark in May with a new attitude and a strong determination to stop looking for excuses and blaming everything and everyone right down to the emoticon for my bad choices emoticon

Here is my best advice - simple stuff but from the heart: 1) Use your Nutrition Tracker faithfully, every single day, and print out the daily report on that page so you can make sure you are getting the proper balance of fats, carbs, and protein. This will keep you honest and accountable for your choices. Checking your report each day is critical - you want to make sure you are getting the right % of nutrients and not just eating empty calories. Remember, it is possible to stay within your calorie range eating "junk" but that isn't going to promote weight loss and it certainly won't maintain it in the long run.; 2) Find a few exercises/activities you actually ENJOY doing and then do them 3-4X a week. If you like what you are doing the chances are much better that you will stick with it; 3) Stay active with your Team(s) because this is the place you will get encouragement, motivation, and support - including hugs on those days when things are especially tough! Spark Friends are especially important because they are just like you! We may all have different amounts of weight to lose - different levels of fitness - different health issues - but, we've all been down the 'diet" road and we all can "relate." and; 4) Try to actually have fun with this journey to slimness and better health! It's a given that if you enjoy something you will stick with it over the long run. So, post, share experiences, have a laugh with your Spark Friends. It will make it a lot easier to reach your destination!

One last thought: it isn't important how fast or slowly you lose your weight. This is one area where 'slow and steady wins the race' is more then just some old cliche. Spark teaches you a new lifestyle and you need time to re-educate yourself and develop a new relationship with food. Give yourself the time to do that and you will be able to keep it off in the future.
Good luck and I look forward to sharing the journey with you!

I've been in TOPS for about 5 years and haven't reached my goal. I seem to gain and lose the same ten pounds over and over again. I was very excited when I learned about sparkpeople and hope the support is what I need. I like the support in TOPS but it is once a week and I need daily support.
