Thanks for the pep talk. I work with alot of young people that when you mention something like the" andy griffth" show they will look at you with a blank face . I makes you feel like 62 is old. I have to get out of that mind set and that is why it is so cool to have people my age to interact with. Your dogs are adorable. We have a 8 year old rescue(Lola) from Kentucky that we got in March. Good luck to you and your sister....donna

Hi Donna.....It really can be done. SP has lots of healthy delicious recipes so you can both eat healthier and bill will never know the difference because it tastes so good. I am 68 and Ted is 73 and he loves the healthier foods I am making. His problem is portion control, snacking in between, and the choices he makes when dining out. What's that old saying? You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink!

Hi Sharon, Sounds like our husbands are " brothers from different mothers".. It can make weight lose extra hard when you have a situation where the love of your life doesn't seem to care that he is putting his life in jeopardy. That is another reason I am soooo glad to have found sparkpeople. I am hoping desperately than I can show Bill that it can be done. I am 62 and Bill is 57 but it is never too late to get healthy. I did not know that if I got my numbers under 6.0 for three years I would not be considered diabetic. That is awesome that you don't have to take meds. Congrats and well done. Well thanks again for the info and it was great to hear from you. It is a wonderful feeling to know there are people out there that are going through the same things you are. Take care--Donna

Hi and welcome to the team. Yes, losing weight can help you reverse the diabetes. I am a type 2 diabetic and by losing some weight I was able to avoid having to take medicines to control my blood sugars. My husband is also a type 2 diabetic who refuses to be careful with what he eats and how much he eats and he is now not only on pills but he also now needs 4 insulin injections a day to keep his blood sugars in a safe range. If you can keep your blood sugars 6.0 or below for 3 years you will no longer be diabetic, at least that's what my doctor told me.

DMC! There are so any features on this website that it can be overwhelming when you first join - don't worry though because you'll be navigating around like a champ in no time. Besides, if you've figured out how to use the nutrition tracker and post to your teams, you've already got a great start. The tracker is my lifeline because if I don't write down everything I eat, I have no clue how much I'm eating. This isn't a diet - Spark teaches you how to change your relationship with food and live a healthy lifestyle. Diets don't work - re-educating yourself about how to eat does work. Sometimes it doesn't go as fast as we'd like it to but this is one place the old cliche holds true - Slow and steady wins the race. This is a great team and they will give you lots of encouragement and support. Look forward to sharing this journey with you!

You absolutely can lose weight. You do need to approach this as a lifestyle change. As you learn more about proper nutrition and start exercising more, you will gain more energy and start feeling a lot better. Good Luck!

Just joined SP. I am trying to figure things out and how to use them. I have the trackers down but I am trying to figure out how to connect with my team . I have added Sharon632 as a friend. I am 62 years old and weight 187 pounds. At 5ft 2 inches you can imagine that I am obese. I have some heath issues like COPD. I quit smoking five years ago but not until I had to have a stint put into a artery near the bottom of my aorta. My blood work shows that I am at 6.6 for diabetes but my doctor said if I lost weight and exercised I could reverse it before it got too bad. I am married to a overweight diabetic for 26 years and I work second shift. So you know it would be easier if I worked the same time as my husband, Bill. Well i just wanted to introduce myself to the team and wish me luck.
