Water exercises are great, especially for those with arthritis since it reduces stress on the joints. However, I only have access to water in the summer when my son opens up his pool.

Be sure to start out on the exercise bike with no resistance. You can add resistance later when you are stronger. Let me know how you are doing, please.

I am impressed that you can do wall exercises with your bad knee. I am spending 30 minutes in the water when I can. I have to schedule with the gym and find time to change clothes. Times seem to be in the afternoon and sometimes conflict with grandchildren responsibilities. Now, with your encouragement I will try stationary bike and simple straightening exercises. emoticon

I don't do a lot of walking as I have one knee replacement and the other knee replacement soon to be scheduled. However, I have an stationary exercise bike which allows me to get some cardio without a lot of stress on the knees. I have found quite a few strength exercises I can do as well, like hip flexors, wall pushups, calf raises, abduction and adduction, etc. I also have a set of 2 pound weights I use for some upper body exercises. There are also exercises we can do sitting or lying down. I can't do floor exercises but I can use the bed for leg exercises. Check out the fitness pages and see what exercises you can use. Many can be tailored to your needs.

I haven't had the adrenal test done but perhaps I should because I sure do have the big belly!

Thank you. It is good to hear from someone who also deals with hypothyroidism. The adrenal fatigue is measured by a saliva test. The result is an excess of cortisol and that promotes gaining weight around the belly.
Can you share what you do for exercise? Thank you

GRATZLAFF - I am not familiar with adrenal issues but I do have thyroid issues and you should be able to lose weight at 1500 calories....slowly unless your meds interfere. Do whatever exercises you can even if it is just walking or seated exercises. Every little bit helps.

I have been doing Adkins faithfully for 2 years. It has been great for my heart issues. But, I am craving more variety so I decided to count 1500 calories a day and add larger variety to my menu. I am afraid I won't loose any weight because i have thyroid and adrenal issues, I take many medications, I am menopausal, and following surgery I have been very sedentary.

walk 10,000 steps a day

find foods that work with YOUR body chemistry.

i make this mixture for breakfast , lunch and dinner. i have lost 34 pounds .

i cook 4 large portabella mushrooms sliced, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, 4 large onions sliced, 2 large green peppers, 3 cans green beans, 1 can rutabaga and 5 sliced chicken sausages. find foods that work with your chemistry. i created this meal on my own. i can't seem to loose weight if i eat any grain products. so one day i experimented.

it makes enough for at least 4 days, three meals a day. total cost is 12 dollars. i buy the mushrooms and chicken at sams club. sounds crazy but it taste good and most importantly it's working. i'm not hungry . if i feel the urge to cheat i go get a fork full of my mixture. i chew very slowly as to enjoy my meal.

i have added a small banana and grapes for my snacks and to be a fix for my sweet tooth.

you can add other foods into your menu. just know what works with your body chemistry.

I have gone from 198 to 164 pounds. i can now fit into a size 14 comfortably. i feel so much better. think of carrying a 2 year old around your waist every minute of every day. no i am not done. on the obese chart i have gone from being obese to just plain fat. my goal is to drop another 22 pounds. then i will be happy, healthy and never allow myself to get in this condition again.

one might say eating the same food every day would get boring. not true. when you look in the mirror and can see the difference it's worth

i went to the doctor. for the first time in a long time i was not ashamed to get on the scale. i did not have to get beet red because doctor said i was over weight. it felt GREAT.
