Welcome to the team and to Spark People. This is a great site with so many tools and resources that are helpful and easy to use. I have been here almost 5 months and I am still in awe of what is here. I have personally found the trackers to be my greatest ally. I try to make sure that I track everyday and everything. It has really helped me make better decisions for myself.

Hi, I'm Sheila. I just joined this afternoon, so I am still exploring the site and taking care of my messages. I'm from New England, moved here 5 years ago to retire. Originally from the Capital District in New York. This site is extensive and I'm very impressed. I was referred here today from an acquaintance at Curves (gym). It's nice to be here, and I look forward to getting to know some of you!
Hi Nancy welcome to the team, you must be excited to move back to the U.K. after being gone for 8 years! I can imagine a lot of walking to see things that have changed in the 8 years since you have been gone. I know you said you go back for visits, but that is never enough time to catch up on all the changes.
As for your issue on the tracker, try logging out and logging back in and see if that helps.
find foods that work with your chemistry. i created this meal on my own. i can't seem to loose weight if i eat any grain products. so one day i experimented.
i make this mixture for breakfast , lunch and dinner. i have lost 31 pounds in 16 weeks. i cook
4 large portabella mushrooms sliced, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, 4 large onions sliced, 2 large green peppers, 3 cans green beans, 1 can rutabaga and 5 sliced chicken sausages.
it makes enough for at least 4 days, three meals a day. total cost is 12 dollars. i buy the mushrooms and chicken at sams club. sounds crazy but it taste good and most importantly it's working. i'm not hungry . if i feel the urge to cheat i go get a fork full of my mixture. i chew very slowly as to enjoy my meal.
i have added a small banana and grapes for my snacks and to be a fix for my sweet tooth.
you can add other foods into your menu. just know what works with your body chemistry.
I have gone from 198 to 167 pounds. i can now fit into a size 14 comfortably. i feel so much better. think of carrying a 2 year old around your waist every minute of every day. no i am not done. on the obese chart i have gone from being obese to just plain fat. my goal is to drop another 22 pounds. then i will be happy, healthy and never allow myself to get in this condition again.
one might say eating the same food every day would get boring. not true. when you look in the mirror and can see the difference it's totally worth it. once i reach my goal i will change my menu. not until then.
portion sizes are critical to your success. exercise has to become a way of life. good luck

Welcome to the team and to Spark People. This is a great site The tools and resources are so helpful and easy to use. I personally have found the trackers to be my greatest ally. Before I joined I thought I was eating right yet I could not understand why I was not losing much weight. I had been walking at least 8 miles a day and yet my weight was not changing. A friend told me about Spark People and I started the next day. As soon as I started tracking my food I discovered much of my problem. Though I was eating mostly healthy food I was not eating in the right proportions and to the correct ranges. I track every day after each meal. This has helped me make better decisions, even when I do splurge. I can adjust my meals according to what I am lacking or what I am in excess. I am making progress because I am accountable for what I put in my mouth. The other tools and resources help me learn more about health and fitness.

As we're about the same age, may I ask which exercises you find are working for you? I am just doing a walking video at the moment but feel I need to do something a bit more, but don't want to be too adventurous :o))

So good to hear from someone my age! It's hard the older you get but maybe we can support each other and give suggestions on what is working. SparkPeople is the best I have found. They help in every way and the support community is fantastic. Welcome.

Welcome to the team, Nancy. Yes, age makes it more difficult, but not impossible. All our weights are in pounds, so 'stones' don't comprehend for me. We're all here for the same reason. We need to remove fat and follow good nutrition plans.

Hi. My name is Nancy, (station7). I live in Cyprus, been there almost 8 years. Have just put our house on the market as we have decided to return to the UK. We usually visit our family twice a year, but each time we go back I seem to put on another half stone ??? Too many restaurant meals and take-aways:o) We were home at our son's wedding in July and having just seen the photographs, I can hardly believe I look so bad. At almost 12stone and only 5ft 2", that's not good so I really need to get started. Hopefullly this programme and the community can give me the motivation to get going. I found it easy when I was younger but at 61 it seems more difficult to shift the fat. I need all the help I can get................................Nancy
