Kudos to all on their efforts. My weight is 175 and I am struggling to stay within my calorie range. Exercise is easy for me, but the eating is another story.

Hi Tracey ~ I'm 58, with 2 sons, a great daughter (in law) and a 4 yr. old grandson (another due in April). This site is a great tool for starting to get fit. The support of others in the same situation helps a lot. Make use of the Nutrition tracker & Fitness tracker (ugh), as well as tracking the water you drink. These have helped me in the 2 weeks I've been here. I'm thinking about what I eat and learning to make better choices. The different teams are fun to join, I suggest getting involved in the teams that you think will be fun and helpful, the support is a great aid in sticking to your plan. Good luck ~ Pat emoticon

Hi, I'm Tracey. I am 53 years old and have 2 sons,1 daughter in love, 2 grandchildren (a boy and a girl). I have been depressed for 3 years after my husband left me for another woman. I have been over compensating with retail therapy and food! I am ready to make some changes and looking forward to getting started on here and thankful for the support of others like yourselves.

find foods that work with your chemistry. i created this meal on my own. i can't seem to loose weight if i eat any grain products. so one day i experimented.

i make this mixture for breakfast , lunch and dinner. i have lost 28 pounds in 14 weeks. i cook

4 large portabella mushrooms sliced, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, 4 large onions sliced, 2 large green peppers, 3 cans green beans, 1 can rutabaga and 5 sliced chicken sausages.

it makes enough for at least 4 days, three meals a day. total cost is 12 dollars. i buy the mushrooms and chicken at sams club. sounds crazy but it taste good and most importantly it's working. i'm not hungry . if i feel the urge to cheat i go get a fork full of my mixture. i chew very slowly as to enjoy my meal.

i have added a small banana and grapes for my snacks and to be a fix for my sweet tooth.

you can add other foods into your menu. just know what works with your body chemistry.

I have gone from 198 to 170 pounds. i can now fit into a size 14 comfortably. i feel so much better. think of carrying a 2 year old around your waist every minute of every day. no i am not done. on the obese chart i have gone from being obese to just plain fat. my goal is to drop another 22 pounds. then i will be happy, healthy and never allow myself to get in this condition again.

one might say eating the same food every day would get boring. not true. when you look in the mirror and can see the difference it's totally worth it. once i reach my goal i will change my menu. not until then.

portion sizes are critical to your success. exercise has to become a way of life. good luck

The journal is good to make you aware of how much you are eating, however, you can get you into trouble at the end of the day if the choices you made were - surprisingly - higher than expected.

I find the best way to use the Nutrition Tracker is as a planner. The day before, I decide on my next day's meals & snacks and run the Daily Report to see if I have met all my nutrient goals. Then I adjust my plans accordingly.

I think you're right about the nutrition tracker, it really is a great help. I can see now how I put on those "extra" pounds through bad food choices on a regular basis. Thanks for the support!

The nutrition tracker is my best friend and I think it will be yours also. Tracking what you eat will help with portion control. I have been here for almost 4 months. I have learned so much about myself and my eating habits. I know think about what I am going to eat and how it will affect my tracker.

Remember emoticon and the team is here for support and encouragement.

Thanks Cherie, that is a good idea. I am a very slow eater but the other evening I ate a salad with dinner that I really could have saved for a snack. I will next time 'cause I felt too full after dinner. I appreciate your suggestion. Have a great day! emoticon

Another suggestion I found helpful is to eat slower, stop after 3/4 of it. then wait about 10 min. Then I usually am full. I have to eat my salad as a snack. I always have a salad after my dinner, its roughage...An idea for you! Cherie

Thanks BLACK741, you're right about tracking the food and not eating things that are going to take too much effort to burn off. I am motivated by seeing how I can make food choices that don't wipe out my fitness efforts. This site is the most helpful tool I've ever used and I plan on taking advantage of what it has to offer. I do have a problem with most of the fitness exercises at this point, but hope to be able to do more as I become lighter! Looks like you have had much success on your goals, I'm hoping to get there too. Thanks for the welcome!

Welcome to the team. Sounds like you are getting some really good advice. I was a bit of an emotional eater, but have mostly stopped. When I get upset and start looking around for something to make me feel better, I start thinking of all the progress I have made and all the miles/hours of exercise I would have to put in to get rid of what I just ate to try to make me feel better. The exercise part usually stops me cold!!! Once you get into tracking your food and your exercise you see how much it takes to loose those extra foods that really don't make you feel better at all. Good luck, I think you can do it!

Hi - I am also new to the group & am finding the Nutrition tracker to be a great help in portion control. Also, I am tracking the water I drink, have found it's helpful to carry around my special cup that holds 32 oz., it's from an amusement park and has a straw so it's fun and helps me want to drink more water. So far (day 5) I'm still motivated to change my lifestyle and learning to make better choices by reading the tips and successes on the site. Good luck!

Welcome to the group. The members here are very supportive and offer good advice. A while ago I followed a different plan and it was suggested that you carry a small notebook and log all you eat during the day and what you were feeling . This practice helped me twofold. I become much more conscience of what I was consuming in a day and after a bit helped me to really think about wanting a certain item and write down what I ate. I am trying to follow the suggested meal plan but make substitutions along the way. You must remember this is a lifestyle change and not a temporary fix.

emoticon Since I prepare my meals the night before, I can log them in first thing in the morning. But a notebook is a good idea too.

I just started a couple of days ago, so take this advice with that in mind! I have started carrying a little notebook with me so I can jot down what I eat each day then add it to the nutritional tracker on here when I have a chance. There is something about being honest with yourself and writing it down! I am also learning to plan my meals better. I work 24 hours so after I figure out what I will eat I put it in a little cooler and take it to work with me! I am going to use the meal plans on here starting monday. I am an emotional eater and have more emotions to eat to than the average, I think I invented a few! I am also using the blog and journal area under planner to put my feelings in writing! BEST OF LUCK! emoticon

Just joined today. Exercise is not an issue for me. I am extremely fit overweight person who need to practice portion control and track my calories. These are the two areas that I find extremely difficult to accomplish. Any suggestions.
