It was a real 'sink or swim' situation and I'm really proud that I decided to swim. It's amazing what you CAN do if you have a good reason, isn't it?
I've reversed my diabetes now and all my results are absolutely normal which is a good feeling. I don't want to go back to the Bad Old Days!
But it's much tougher going in the winter when the weather is cold, windy and wet and Christmas looms with all its culinary temptations
I've already succumbed to mince pies (well, I made the mincemeat so I know it's good) and the Christmas pudding and Christmas cake are maturing nicely. We have most of our family coming to us for Christmas and three of them are VERY fit (think Iron Man, Triathlons and Marathons ...)
I just need to kick start my progress again
Getting there ... one small step at a time!

Your story is inspiring. What a great job you've done so far! Even with all that commitment our bodies do find plateaus. Sparks is a great place to finish off the rest and then learn how to maintain it. I'm Pebblegeek from the UK and I had a shock in July 2011 when my doctor diagnosed me with diabetes type 2, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and hypothyroid. Complacency really caught up with me in a BIG way ...
I asked him what I could do to improve the situation and he said 'Lose weight'. Well, of course, I took him to task and said (rather huffily) that it was easier said than done. So he told me I had to cut out carbs - bread, potatoes, pasta, rice and noodles and the weight would 'fall off' me. I wasn't convinced and headed home to do some research online. Unfortunately there was so much confusing information out there that I wasn't really any wiser.
So I signed up for the Tesco eDiet website, picked the Low Carb option and told hubby what I was going to do. He wasn't entirely convinced but he agreed to support me.
To my amazement, the weight did start falling off .... just as the doctor had promised me it would. I thought I'd miss bread and potatoes but, once I'd decided to do the Low Carb diet with 100% commitment, I didn't miss them so much. I did, however, miss fruit and some of my favourite veggies were also limited or forbidden. That was hard.
The doctor also told me I had to walk so I started with a ten minute walk around the block and gradually increased it as I got fitter. Soon it became a thirty minute walk and now I try to managed two thirty minute walks every day, one before breakfast and one before dinner.
I couldn't believe how quickly my shape changed - especially my thighs and bum - and virtually all my clothes were suddenly much too big for me. What a thrill after twenty five years of being a short fat woman!
I started off at 13 stone 4 lbs and now I'm 10 stone 4lbs. I'd lost 3 stone by the beginning of the summer but I've been stuck on a plateau since and really need to get myself in gear to lose more.
I'm very happy to be a part of SparkPeople and I hope this will be the incentive to get me going again :)
