With just 11 pounds left to reach my goal weight, I thought it was time to join this team. I've been in the 25-49 pounds to lose team since I joined SP in November. I'm 57 and gained a lot of weight after an accident that put me in a wheelchair for 3 months. I've lost 25 pounds on SP so far, and I couldn't be happier!

I hope to inspire others with my success, and encourage everyone to work hard to reach your own goals!

emoticon with setting small goals, ie. Next 2 weeks 2-3 lbs. Make realistic goals so you feel good about success. If you lose more, Bonus! Or at least 10mintes a day exercise first week, 15 min week 2 and 3. You can always do more but at least you feel on track.

Hi, I'm new to this team. I am 51 (closer to 52) and am having an awful time with menopausal weight gain, mostly in my belly though I also seem to have lost my cheekbones and my round face makes me feel fatter than I am. Its all very frustrating, as are hot flashes and lack of libido.

I'm hoping that this team will help me battle these problems and help me feel not so alone in this wicked phase of life! My name is Kelly and any advice you can offer will be much appreciated!

Hi everyone! I"ve just come back to SP after I took an extended vacation (read relapse) last spring. Everything was going so well but I got lazy from posting and tracking and now I'm not exactly starting over but I have lost a lot of ground. That's ok, I'm not beating myself up about it. Hi, I'm Jeanne and I live in Arizona. Glad to join the team-- not sure how it works, though; how do we add points to the team? Are they added automatically from our personal points or is there something additional to do?

I just turned 50, but I've done Weight Watchers more times than I can count and SP a couple of times before. Haven't had much success with weight loss since I got married 24 years ago. Ha. This time I'm a retired empty-nester... so maybe it will be easier? :-D Kids are off to college, so now I only have to plan meals with my low-carbing husband in mind. In fact, all my "favorite" weight-loss obstacles are gone: I'm not teaching anymore, so my stress level is low and I am not too tired or busy to exercise. I am years past cancer surgeries, chemo and radiation, so my energy level is not compromised. I have recently rediscovered sewing as a hobby, so maybe that will keep me out of the fridge. I have two dogs that love to walk, chickens that lay eggs, and organic veggies growing in my garden. Surely I can keep up with this for more than the three or four weeks I usually last?

Hello, My name is Donna and I come from Northern Wisconsin. I first came across SparkPeople a few years back but my life started in a crazy spin so I never kept up.
I have lost and gained many times in my life but cant seem to keep it off. I really need to lose 15 - 20 lbs. so I am hoping that this year is my year. I love to walk, ride my bike, cross-country ski, fish and camp. I have participated in the Warrior Dash for 2 years now and need to get in shape for this year.

Hi All. I joined SP a couple of days ago. So far I am very impressed with everything that the site has to offer. I just have to figure out how to make it all work. I am a motivated physical fitness person and I eat generally healthy but I have been stuck with losing/gaining the same few pounds for the last year. When not at the gym, I am a teacher (special needs, grades 3-5). I enjoy cooking, crafting, and my cats. I am one of those crazy cat ladies...lol.

Hi WANNABEVERYFIT!

I so understand your comment about not loving exercise. I played soccer for years and recently quit following an injury. Soccer wasn't exercise, it was fun. I haven't found something to replace it, and I just can't get excited about running/workout videos etc. I'm trying tennis lessons now (i'm very much a beginner, and frankly, I'm the worst in the class!), and I'm searching for a good zumba class. Is there something new you could try? My husband started fencing in his 40s and met women who are fencing at age 70! That makes me think that in our 50s we still have plenty of time to find/like a new physical activity... Who knows, maybe you'll find something you will like well enough to do long after that October wedding!

Hi all!

I first joined SP in 2010, did very well, then got away from it. (I have a sedentary job, so it did not make sense to spend even MORE time on the computer instead of doing other activities.)

I didn't get all the way back up to my highest point but I am still at the high end of Normal BMI, almost crossing over to overweight. I would rather be at the low end of Normal and stick there.

I am 53 and I have to admit, I hate exercise. I would rather do chores or play to expend energy than do an activity shoehorned into the schedule called exercise. But I have to do exercise just like brushing one's teeth to be around for my family in the years to come. My daughter is getting married in October, so I have a goal to shoot for.

I lost 20 lbs. with SparkPeople about 4 years ago but found it again (ugh). I just turned 50 in November. I struggle with the healthy eating more than I do with exercise - I just don't like to deprive myself, I guess. Recommitting today - weighed myself for the first time in months this morning and realized I HAVE to.

Hi all! My name is Kim. I'll be 50 in about 6 months... I would like to lose 15 pounds, but more importantly, I would like to know that I'm eating what my body needs and I would like to have a bit more energy. Hi Mary- So sorry about your mom. I'm just 2 years older than you, have about the same amount of wgt. to lose(Spark) set it high but we'll see if that's doable/healthy for me. I'm about getting healthy and keeping up with exercising. I was a daily runner for years but was told on 12/11 no running for 3 months due to knee issues. So far I've either biked or done Pilates instead. Only missed one since the 12/12! Ellen

I am Mary, 56 years old and would like to lose 15-20 lbs.
I re-introduced myself to SparkPeople back on December 1st because I had been away for a few years and wanted to make a commitment to come back and work hard at eating healthy and be accountable to an exercise plan. Unfortunately, my MOM and best friend passed mid-December and I stopped checking in. emoticon She Always told me that I don't eat enough and that was my problem. So, I want to track my food and make sure that I am fitting my food into the proper categories, getting the right nutrients, protein, fats, etc for great health and energy!
The new Spark year will start tomorrow for me!! I will weigh in on Mondays emoticon
exercise every day emoticon and start to track my food to see where my shortcomings are emoticon
I have already eliminated the holiday treats this weekend! emoticon

I officially began Spark last Monday but have struggled with the eating. At least I have devoured all the holiday food that was left in the house so there is none left to tempt me! LOL I am recommitting today to tracking everything and being conscientious about ingesting healthy nutrition. Yes I want to lose weight but it's more about feeling good and eating to give my body the nutrients it needs. The exercise is easier for me as I have exercised daily for the past 30+ years. It's a deeply ingrained habit and that's what I want healthy eating to become.

Hello Everyone! Happy New Year. In reviewing and being honest with myself I have to admit, I need to lose 10- 13 lbs. I'm working on my nutrition since its better than it had been but needs work. I've put together a program for working out since I get bored I'm using T25, Jillian Michaels and Yoga. My goal is to post at least twice a week (Wed & Sat). Well, I stopped logging food for about a week. And guess what? Oh my! I gained weight. First off I tend toward low metabolism (tested). So getting on the plan was difficult. Then I was amazed at how hard it was to get the diet to balance. Once I did, the pounds didn't drop. The exercise had me feeling better and more satisfied when I ran my hand on my skin. The weight dropped, min-plateaued and dropped again. Now, I'm facing the music. Without logging, I tend to be on the see food diet, even if I am more careful. Also haven't exercised, which will set my muscle tone back. Well it is a new year, and I still have goals to meet. And points to earn.

emoticon Hello and Happy New Year! I would have thought a few years ago that having 15 extra lbs. to lose was no big deal. Well, sometimes it seems it might was well be 100 lbs. - those extra lbs. just want to hang on for dear life! Over the past few months I have really cleaned up my diet - lower carbs, higher fiber, tons of vegetables, low-to-no gluten. This year I am really going to pay close attention to what I'm eating and my level of physical activity. I'm hoping connecting with other folks in my boat will give me the motivation I need for the long haul.

Not sure if I introduced myself. I re-joined SP about two weeks ago. Ten pounds to go here in the Northern Adirondacks of Upstate NY. I decluttered around my manual treadmill and started to get busy on it. Nice during the winters here to use one of those! I am pretending I am walking outside when I am on it, ha! But staying warm and dry when I do!

I am a beginner to intermediate knitter, currently working on socks as there is a shortage in my drawers here!

Just checking out the team. I am not new to Spark People but have not done much with team work lately and this team's title fits me to a tee.

I turned 50 in April, I weigh in the low 190's and would like to get to 175. Over the last three years I have whittled my way down very SLOWLY from 286 to my current weight but seem to be stuck here.

Hope that I can get tips and inspiration from you all!!

Hi, I'm new to this. I'm hoping to lost 15 pounds. I've been trying to exercize but am limited since I had shoulder surgery in July. I also need to learn to cut out desserts at night.

Hello! I'm Cathy and just turned 50 in August. Feeling let down by my weight gain over the past few years and looking forward to get back to fit and healthy. Lots of changes I could use as excuses, but I will leave that behind and look forward 16 pounds!

Hi All,
I am back to SP after taking a long vacation (since last spring) I did really well until I had a gallbladder attack, then had it removed, then went through 2 months of doctors visits to determine if there wasn't more going on than just the gallbladder, ie: cancer of the liver. Well after a trip to a liver specialist in Boston I was assured that my doctor was just being over cautious. PHEW.

Meanwhile, my elderly Mom and Dad were moving from their family home to a senior condo. That was very overwhelming for my Mom and Dad, but also for my siblings and myself. I know others have done this and understand the stress that it causes for everyone. Well they got settled 2 days before Thanksgiving and are doing well. We just need to get their house sold now...

So, I'm back. I am 62, married with 3 sons, and 2 step children. They are all grown and on their own. We have 6 grandkids from 3-13.The whole crew, including Mom and Dad were at our house for Thanksgiving. We live on Cape Cod and love walking. I have regained most of the weight I lost because I got away from my regular exercise and participated in stress eating over the last few months. That needs to stop and I need to make a fresh start.

Sorry I have gone on so much, but here I am.

Hi, I have trouble losing any weight, I am 56 with two grown, great sons and the caretaker of 2 very sick parents. My stress level is high, I have a wonderful, supportive husband that walks with me everyday, rain or shine. I have been the same weight (give or take 3lbs) for the past 10 years. I am menopausal, eat very healthy, and exercise. I am so glad that I have maintained my weight but sadly I am over overweight on the BMI scale. emoticon I hope to start fresh and stay accountable and track my fitness at first and add food tracking when I have time.

Sounds like you are back on the right track. Your plans sound great.

I love chocolate too. My biggest strategy has been to keep it out of the house, except on special occasions when there are plenty of people to enjoy it with me--so it doesn't last long. What is the brand name of your chocolate mint tea? I wonder if that would be a good thing for me or make me want the real thing? My sister chews mint chocolate dessert gum at times and seems to be a win for her.

Hi All! I'm new to this site, but not new to SP. I left it over 2 years ago after deciding I could "do it all on my own." Well, I didn't, so I am back. I lost over 25 pounds so I know I can do it. I am not overly stressed out about joining, just kind of down about "doing it again!" I used to lose weight so easily when I was younger; then when I became disabled, and the weight crept on slowly as I wasn't nearly as active.

I have a good plan in place for the weight loss and to revamp my healthy life style, I just need the support! Several of my very best friends died recently and that was soooo hard. I am in my early 60's, so I am feeling a little out of place as many of you seem to be in your early 50's? With each decade, it seems to become a little harder to lose!

Anyway,with ice cream @ night (or anytime) I can take or leave it, but chocolate, now there is a real love of mine! I finally found some chocolate mint tea which is out of this world!! which helps but I still need a "fix" now and then. I find if I eat a little on a regular basis I tend not to "binge out!" I guess I will have to work it in my food/nutrition plans!

I plan to join a gym that is only a mile or so from my home that I think can help me work out and yet deal with all of my health issues. emoticon (any advice?) I am looking for any and all support and am willing to give also. I walk my dog and love to cook/bake, especially with herbs, often adapting recipes to fit my DH's and mine dietary needs. I need help with fitness and motivation! My workout routine will start out with (light) dumbbells and stretch ropes, plus continuing to walk. Oh and I have a wonderful massage therapist!! Hi 1stCinderella. Thanks for the reply. It means a lot as I start out here. We have a lot in common, yes. I like sweets too. Night time ice cream has done me in more times than I can count. Still, I believe in moderation in all things. Therefore, I'll buy it if the kids come home for a visit and have it occasionally in the outside world. Of course, last week my husband brought me some as a "gift." Oh, I gifted myself! And he's lactose sensitive and not a sweet tooth. So there you have it. Good thing I got more on board with Spark this week!

Yes, thank goodness for Leslie and Denise and their tapes! I've found certain ones that have really saved the day for me. Do you have a favorite or two?

Having a stoke would be difficult to recuperate from. I know that I don't like recuperating from back surgery. I won't be released by the doctor until at least the 8th of December. That will be three months and some aspects I will never get back. I'll pray for you and you pray for me.

I am rehabbing from a stroke episode. Set up with new name and account so I can be this person. I want to do all I can to stay positive and not compare myself with before. Walking with a cane feels strange but I am doing 1/2 mile on track. Also rowing at least 5 min., and recumbent elliptical for 15 min. Beats sitting on sofa having a pity party. Hubby is a retired pastor and we have a great marriage. He is taking very good care of me. emoticon

Welcome TeaFourTwo. You sound like me, but I'm almost ten years old than you. I now weigh 155; I've been as low has 133. I felt good. Then I ate lots of sweets and gained weight. I have a sweet tooth.

I have often used Leslie Sansone and used Denise Austin. I will start using the walking DVDs in January (again). I too eat too much generally; I have a problem when everyone else in the house can eat a whole lot more than I can. I'm 5'3' and the shortest one in the family ( I get teased a lot).

Hi everybody,

I joined Spark a few years ago, but I really only started using it regularly the last couple of weeks. So far, I love it, although it's a lot to take in! I've never been great at consistently tracking but am now getting into it. Rewards help--I'll take them! And seeing the support of others.

I am 52, happily married, with two college-age children who both left the nest (at least temporarily) this year. As far as the weight goes, I've found that as I get older the pounds are creeping on, of course. After gaining about 15 extra pounds when the kids were little, I joined Weight Watchers and lost it, but then found a Lifetime member weight compromise of 138 (just ten pounds down from my 148 high then) and hovered there for a while. Over the next five years I consistently weighed 146-148, which I could live with. However, these last five years I crept up to 152-155, which per health guidance puts me officially overweight for my age/height, gives me quite the middle, and I just can't seem to shake it. I keep holding onto my pants from the 146-148 lb. years but the hope of getting back there is beginning to feel like a joke.

So here I am. I know the biggest problem I have is staying up too late and eating too much when I do. Then my energy is crappy for the next day--meaning I'm more apt to skip out on exercise or just never get to it because I'm too slow at everything else. So I've made a new rule to get to bed by 11 or 12. I know it sounds late to most but I am a night owl by nature and now have a job that will keep me working till 11 several nights a week anyway. On top of that I will be going back to school in January. But this plan should allow me 6-9 hours of sleep, and usually a good eight.

I love to walk, sometimes jog/walk, but most consistently the type of exercise I do is walking/strength training DVDs from Leslie Sansone and Denise Austin. I used to always walk outside with my husband no matter what the weather but I've been kind of a wimp the past five years or so when it's been cold or dark out and stuck with my tapes or mall walking. But I'm now planning to use those walks as bonus exercise time, and extra time with the hubby, especially now that the kids are grown. Oh yeah, and I have to watch out for drinking too much coffee... a night owls' best/worst friend. Doing better at that this week, though.

Hi there, 50-and-Fabulous Friends.

I was about to post to my familiar 40-group when I remembered that I've had a birthday in the last month and should probably take time to explore the 50s with an experienced group.

I'm enjoy good health and I'm in a new workplace this year. Summers are key to my plan for recharging and rebooting, but Spark helps keep me motivated for the rest of the year. I am fortunate because my husband joins me at the gym, as well as for biking and snowshoeing so it is time spent together. I have done Spark for a few years, with good results - all inspired by my sister who has had great success with it.

Hi, Cathy here. You will notice that my sign in is 1stcinderalla. For most of my life I've felt like Cinderalla before the ball; although, there have been moments when I felt that I was at the ball. Last November 16th was one of those times. My husband and I celebrated our 39th year of marriage. Soon we will be celebrating our 40th.

I struggle with how much I should do for others and how much time should be spent on me. This year I've been forced to spend some time taking care of me. I've had two carpal tunnel surgeries, been diagnosed with a mild case of Cerebral Palsy and am currently recuperating from a back surgery that corrected a birth defect that I did not know I had. On the 22nd of December I have another surgery to correct a type of hernia. In addition to that my husband had a mild heart attack. We both need to change some things. I'm so glad that the heart attack was not worse. I would not know what to do without my man.

On the upside-I've been with SP since December 2005. When I started my health journey I was at 180. Along the way I forgot that I'm important. I'm relearning that.

I think there's a lot of shared experience here... My story is that 10 years ago, I lost 40 pounds and was in the best shape of my life through weightlifting and watching what I ate. Then came the recession (no more gym membership), stress, a back injury and 25 pounds came back on.

I've lost 10 with Sparkpeople and a combination of running and weightlifting. I know the second 10 are going to be hard! But I'm enjoying the exercise and feeling great.

I'm also allergic/intolerant to wheat, dairy, corn, soy, citrus, coconut and bananas. Many of those foods were the foods I used to pig out on, way back when. I didn't know it, but they also gave me joint pain and migraines (on a bad day) and headaches (on a good day). Thank goodness I have identified them; i feel SO much better and it's much easier to eat without feeling like I want to cheat.

Great to see all the messages in here with people going through the same things. Keep on keepin' on! :-D

Hello Everyone! I'm new here, but not in the Spark. I just saw the team name and it fits me perfectly, so I joined. I'm almost 54 and I am a long distance runner, very slow - but still a runner. My work has become increasingly harder and more stressful and sometimes I just don't have the energy to exercise. In addition I became menopausal with all the "perks" in May and gained quickly about 10 extra pounds. Now I have 15 to lose! I frequent Sparky marathoner's page, but I hope to find some support from people of my age who are going through the same changes.
I live in San Jose CA with my husband, our adult son lives near-by. We have 2 cats and great neighbors in a small community (condos).

Hello! I'm so happy to find this site and thrilled to be here! Two years ago I was in the best shape of my life through weight lifting with my daughter, but since then I have been divorced and mishandled the stress by giving up on exercise and eating everything in sight that wasn't nailed down. I am only 5' tall, so every 5lb gain is a full pant size and I've put on 20.

I'm ready to start loving myself again, looking forward to good times and a light heart about life and the possibilities ahead! I look forward to traveling the road with each of you...it won't take long!! Thanks for being here.

I have been a non-active member here for quite some time. I am trying to get back into to game. I have had health issues over the past couple of years and weight gain. I'm really trying to get myself on the right track and get rid of this weight I have put on. I have at least 15 to 20 pounds to go. It is so hard. (I know I don't have to say that). I'm want to be more active on my team sites. I hope to get to know all of you.
