My story is so much like Gen's as I too lost 20 pounds using SP, but over the summer I stopped tracking and slowly my food choices became more unhealthy and my portions became larger. When I stepped on the scale this morning I realized I had regained 10 of those pounds. It is time to get back on plan, but to be honest I am feeling a little lost and alone! Gen it was so nice to read your message and realize I am not the only one who had this experience.

Ok, I'm sort of a newbie. I faithfully used spark people a couple years ago and lost 20 lbs :) Since then, I fell 'off the wagon' shall we say and gained 12 of those pounds back. Very disgusted with myself. My cholesterol and blood pressure are up again, and I'm just not happy with how I look :( So, as I proved to myself before, I can loose the wait. Only this time, I'm going to loose it and kept it off. Back to tracking food on spark people today (that really worked for me last time). And will start back to exercising as much as I can. Currently, I'm having rotator cuff issues, so my exercising is limited. But start PT tomorrow to correct that issue. Taking one day at a time!!

I discovered Spark People quite a while ago but never really did much with it. I have been exercising and trying eat right for a couple of years now and lost 30 pounds within the first year and then hit a plateau for the following year. A breakthrough happened when I got my smartphone and was able to track everything on it there. I have been able to see where some extra calories and bad habits were interfering with my progress. Although I am about 20 lbs overweight, I am in great shape. (at 53 years old, I feel better than I have in years). I do significant weight training and fairly intense workouts, but I was over feeding my body afterwards. Thankful for Spark People to help pinpoint this mistake. I am now on my way to losing these last 20 pounds - hopefully by the New Year.

This is my second time at Sparkpeople. I was successful the first time, but got sidetracked with work, life, and other stuff. Dropped out and gained almost all of the weight back! emoticon

I'm back and this time I am determined to stay and make it work! I'm a professional procrastinator who is frequently sidetracked (was doing dishes when I logged on hours ago... yep! sidetracked!). It will be a challenge.

Question: How do you get the slider chart that shows your progress? I see it is on many people's posts and had one the last time I was here. Can't find how to get it now.... emoticon

Thanks (in advance) for the help and support! Together we can do this! emoticon

LOL! I was going to edit my post and up popped the option to add what I wanted! Usually when you click the wrong button, it is a bad thing! emoticon

I am 65 years old, height 4'8", weight 131.2. I am under medical surpervision as of August 26, 2014 with a Nurse Practitioner for High Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol, a 1400 calorie diet, Cardio is rowing, and 9 strength exercises. I have decided to let Spark do my menu's. It will take about a week to get the Low-fat or Non-fat items that is used. Until then I will just enter what I eat. Letting Spark track my menu's might just work.

Hi! My name's Leslie, and I'm soon to be 51. My story is pretty classic: skinny as a child and young adult--never had to worry about what I was eating. Pounds started to creep on in my 30's, and my cholesterol has crept up as well. I'm new to spark people, and I'm hoping for support to stay motivated in my goal of losing 18pounds in order to get healthier and to feel better about how I look.

Thanks, all!

Hi, I'm Barb. I'm new to this team, but not new to SP. I originally lost 55# about a year ago. Over the last year 15# or so pounds have crept back on.
So...I learned...that I need to keep track of my calories, no matter how good my choices are. I also learned that too much of a good thing adds weight back on. For instance, I got on a huge fruit kick...and I do believe that a good portion of my gaining weight came from eating too large of portions, and telling myself it was okay because it's a "healthy choice!" The other was not being active enough. My two changes must be and have been, watch the fruit portions among everything else; and be more consistently active.
The good news is, after backing down on my fruit portions, I lost my first pound. I also tore up the biking trail the last two weeks, adding about 80 miles to my mileage tracker! WooHooo!

Welcome all. Great support here. Just jump in anywhere. All you have to bring to the table is a belief in yourself. A belief that you have what it takes to be of a more normal weight with a healthier body. Food Tracker will keep you honest and friends here will share tips for success. It's all about the attitude and a positive one brings positive results. So, tame those old demons and enjoy the ride. May you have a lifetime of success with it. -Holly

Hi. I've been here before, but did not actively blog. I am 51 and trying to lose 15 lbs. I am enjoying the summer, walking at least two miles four times a week. I am trying to stay within 1200 calories, which is not much, but if I eat a bit more, I gain. Wish me luck!

Hi all,
I'm 53 and working to loose 25 lbs. I'm a stress eater and recognize that. Trying to not let that define me. Today is difficult. Hubby is an ex-Nokia employee and waiting to hear if he will be one of 18,000 laid off. But eating fruit for breakfast instead of jumping in the car and go to Chick-fil-a! I look forward to meeting all and for the support. emoticon

Hi everyone well I turned the big 50 this year and I am not where I want to be with my weight and health. I have thyroid disease as well as in the midst of menopause. It has been hard to lose weight and keep it off. I have lost the same 40 lb over and over again and have never been able to maintain it. I will not give up and I look forward to support from others who are on the same journey to getting healthy and losing weight

Hello fellow 50+ members and a big shout out to Passionatetiger and Sunnybeachgirl for the warm welcome via email. emoticon

My real name is Donna and I'm 55. I've been on SP for many years, which helped me to maintain my weight (or even drop a few), but I didn't really lose much weight until I joined an at-work weight loss group last year. I lost over 12 pounds in about 16 weeks with that, but then renewal time came around and I couldn't justify spending beaucoups bucks just to lose a few more pounds. Anyway, long story short: I've gained a few pounds back. Not many, but I still wanted to lose a few before I dropped out, so--I need extra help, now that I'm not in the group any more. I'm thinking I would like to lose 7-10 pounds, as that would bring me to a weight that I would be happy with and it would be fairly easy to maintain for the long term (my life!).

Thanks for this opportunity to improve and have fun, too!

Hi everyone, I'm. Lesley. I have been with spark for several years. Trying to stay motivated to lose 20 pounds. But with thyroid disease and now menopause, losing weight is not easy. I am impatient and want it now which when I do not see any results, get discouraged. Rethinking my goals around work to make sure I schedule my time and fit everything in.

Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomfort.

Hello, my name is Pat Niebuhr. I am 71, a widow and retired teacher. My goal is to find a happy medium of eating and adding #s. Always thin as a rail my father was afraid I would die from some awful disease. I carry the extra 10 in my belly and cannot lose it. And THAT indeed may be the end of me.

Hi everyone! I've been a member of sparkpeople on and off for several years. Since I hit 50, it has gotten harder to manage my weight. I've tracked every bite of food for nearly 3 weeks now and started an exercise program now so I hope to make some connections here to keep me here! I'm 53 with 2 grown children and a husband who is a marathon runner.

Hello JuliaWM12 and Everyone Else!

I have been here before and am back because I got good results when I held myself accountable!

I have not been all that bad but 30 pounds have found their way back in just two years. I have been trying to avoid the strict clean eating I was so into last time, however, I am just gaining and gaining doing moderate exercise and moderate eating. Age? Partially. The rest is me not working hard enough and paying enough attention to the extra calories here and there. I have been fooling myself along the way so here I am! There isn't a nicer place to do battle with my bulge than on here.

Hi everyone-

I've just joined SP and am hoping to gain some guidance and moral support from this group. I'm 57, very happily married to a gorgeous ( and terminally in-shape ) man. We have two great kids, one in college and one " boomerang" ( college graduate, actor, living home). I work crazy hours at a high stress but satisfying job, work out 4 - 5 time a week ( weights and I am a spin addict). We live in southern California.....

I am happy to have found a group of people my age.

Food and I have never been friends. I was a chubby girl and then an anorexic teen. Since then I was always more or less able to control my weight, but my eating habits have always been sort of weird, left-over anorexia stuff.... I rarely ( and hate to ) cook and have eaten the same one or two things for breakfast, lunch and dinner for months...years.... I don't eat sweets, bread, desserts, really anything too sinful, ( except a couple glasses of wine only on Fridays and Saturdays), but....

.... now I am post menopausal and my metabolism has gone topsy-turvy and I am gaining weight. The charts all show that I eat the right amount of calories but my weight is still increasing and I am at my wit's end.

Maybe there are SP people like me...?

Hi...my name is Robin and I am 51 and I am going to be 52 in a couple of weeks. I used to be really overweight but lost 200lbs (not a typo) 12 years ago. I have kept the weight off with the exception of 20 to 25lbs which I continue to struggle with over the years. Right now I am up 20lbs and although I try to stay focused on health the weight still really bothers me. I am proud that I do consider myself very healthy. I exercise everyday, am mostly vegan, eat mostly whole unprocessed foods and have no health issues. My problem is I have come from many years of using food as an escape and am having a hard time letting that go. You would think that since I make healthy food choices weight would no longer be an issue but too much food of any kind is still too much food. I love my sweets and can eat 20 dates in a day and justify it as a healthy snack..lol I Also love hummus, avocado and nuts. Moderation and eliminating excessive snacking is my main goals along with getting back in my jeans and would love the support to stay focused! I an so excited to find this group and be part of the team! :)

Everyone,

Hi Diana & Everyone :)

Welcome & together we can meet our goals! It's such a lovely thought & wonderful motivation to get off medicine!!

I'm very excited to be here in this team. I never thought this day would come. I've lost 50 pounds on SP under another profile name. Recently I've rejoined because I'm having problems getting the last 15 to 18 pounds off. I feel GREAT being back on SP & have already lost two pounds.

It's a wonderful thing to be able to celebrate my achievements and I am very much looking forward to maintenance!

Blessings,
Marianne

Hi! My name is Diana. I am 59 + 7 months. I have been married to Mike for 15 years. Together we have 2 daughters, 2 sons, 3 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. We are empty nesters. We have 2 dogs Nichy a Maltese and Noah a mixed breed rescue pup.
My goal is to reach 140 by my 60th birthday. to do this I must lose 4 lbs per month. This means I need to stay focused on exercise and diet. I want to get healthier so I can stop two of my medications. I know I will be on thyroid meds forever but I don't want to be on any others. My dad is 84 and only takes thyroid medication. I want to be like my dad.
I enjoy participating in team challenges on SP. I am an avid reader, enjoy watching romantic comedies, spending time with family/dogs and cooking.

Hi, I'm Kim, 50 years old, and plan to remove 20 (more) lbs. I have been 55 lbs more and 30 lbs less at times, and have maintained for far too long at 195 lbs/size 16. As with most of us, I've tried every diet under the sun with varying results. I am returning to following the "No S Diet" www.nosdiet.com

Nice to "meet" you! emoticon

Just starting again. I have 20 pounds to lose in 10 weeks. Two pounds a week. The plan is to eat less and exercise more. If I do that I will lose the weight. I do plan to log my food and eat around 3000 calories a day. 2000 would be better but I think 3000 will do it. Exercising 10 minutes a day is also a goal. Drinking at least 32 ounce of cold water a day is another. Friday is my weigh in day. Joe.

Lose 1 pound and then do it 100 times. Obey the cow.

There is no doubt that depression is causing me to sabotage my weight loss success. Not only am I dealing with my own low feelings but I have several family members that have been diagnosed with severe depression and this takes up a great deal of my time which has contributed to my low mood. My name is Brenda and I would really like to learn from everyone how to rise about the 'mood' and be true to myself and my goals. I am very tired of denying myself the very things I want in life...like losing the layers that are holding me back from living light and authentic to who I am meant to be.

Cheers!

I am back after several years of not being careful or intentional about what I eat. I know I would feel better if I lost weight and there seem to be so many resources here. It can be overwhelming but it's very reassuring to know others are also working towards the same goals.

Great goals, Sheila! I also use running as my main aerobic activity for the week. I usually run 5 miles three times a week during the good weather. However, during the winter months I am down to 3 miles three times a week (treadmill) and lift weights, since I return to my gym to stay off the icy roads. Good luck training for your 10K. How exciting. Sally
PS: I too lost weight using WW but decided that I did not like the point system and that I have enough skill to manage my diet and fitness myself!

Hello Everyone:
I joined SP a few day ago and am busy exploring the site. Having fun seeing what the benefits of the site provide, especially the tracker. Looking forward to better weather so that I can be outside running and not stuck inside on the treadmill. Just turned 50 in February and need to lose 12 pounds. Good luck to everyone.

Look forward to meeting my goal with the group.

Hi Patty, I'm 2 weeks new and am so enjoying SP. I had heard about Sp years ago but never bothered joining I'm so glad I did. There's so much motivation that I have gotten and earning Spark points help as well. I have lost 4 kilos so far and I'm hoping to lose at least 20 more.
I know we can all do it with a little help from each other!

Hello, my name is Patty and I am about to turn 51. I am brand new to Sparkpeople and am currently trying to learn the site. I have adopted the attitude that I am not dieting, I am choosing a healthy lifestyle. After recently adopting an 8 year old Lab mix I have decided he will be my personal trainer. We go for many walks and play in the yard. He is great. I look forward to learning more about this site, the people and reaching my goals.

Hello -- My name is Maura and I'm new to sparkpeople and am currently just trying to navigate the site and make use of the wonderful healthy lifestyle and weight loss tools. I've been a yo-yo dieter my entire life and I'd like to graduate to a long term healthy lifestyle. I worked so hard last year but have unfortunately regained the 20 pounds I worked so hard to lose. Looking forward to the challenge. 2 good days in a row!

I was a member years ago. So many years ago that I had forgotten my user name and password. My email had also changed. So, I just made a new SparkPeople page.

A little about myself: I am 63 years old, married with 12 children between my husband and I. I love biking and just bought a new Schwinn SuperSport 3. I also attend a Barre class where I am getting my toning exercises. Zumba is also a passion.

Hello. My name is Tim and I'm a stay at home dad with a 3 year old. My current weight is 198 lbs. In November of 2010 I weighed 360 pounds. I had a slight set back a year ago and gained 15 of those pounds back, going up to 205-210 lbs. and stuck there for the longest time. I am taking a nutrition and health class and have learned a lot from my mistakes in weight loss. I had no idea that eating the right foods and eating 500 more calories a day would kick my 9 month plateau in the butt. Since March 5th I have dropped from 210 to 198 lbs. My short term goal is 190 lbs @15 -18% Body fat by August. By January 2015 I am working towards 185 @ 11-15% Body fat. One of my favorite quotes is from one of the Rocky movies; If you don't believe in yourself, you ain't gotta life. I walk/run 6 days a week and lift moderately 3 days a week. I'm new here so the way to go about finding friends is a little bit of a mystery still. I hope everyone has a great day.

I'm Sandi and I live in Ohio. I've been here about a month and I am still trying to find my way around here. My husband and I work out at a local gym three days a week and I'm still having trouble losing weight. We will be in Myrtle Beach next month for nine days. We have two small dogs so we spend alot of time walking them when we are on vacation.

Hi,
I tried Spark years ago and need to get back into it. After retiring and relocating to the Myrtle Beach area I have put on all the weight I had lost in getting ready for the move. I need to change my eating habits and get back into exercising on a daily basis. Plus my dog has been diagnosed with an incurable disease and has become diabetic so I find I eat due to the stress of his illness. My husband also needs to lose weight so I'm hoping to find some great recipes here so he will join me in this.
Need support and look forward to hearing the best way for us older people to drop those pounds.
Amy

Hi! My name is Jean and I'm new to Sparkpeople! I want to lose about 30 pounds which I have gained in the last 4 years. I used to be very active but after I started dating my husband, we did nothing but eat and eat and eat....hence the weight gain. I was also in a motorcycle accident last year which injured my left leg so working out can be tricky. I'm depressed..I binge...I get more depressed...just don't know where to start. Hoping to find support with this group!

Hi everyone....I'm Trisha...I joined SP in January and just found this team while reading a members blog. I have 15 lbs. to my goal weight but I really joined SP to make some friends here who I can relate with and support me in enjoying life. Because of illness I have isolated myself over the years and lost touch with others and have become very sedate. I realized I needed to get back to living a full life and hope to find others to share my life with. I find tracking hard because I cook for one and usually I just throw things that I feel like eating together and see what comes out of the pot. I found following a recipe too difficult because I would have left over portions to eat for three or four days afterwards and I find I don't like frozen leftovers much. I am trying to prepare to partake in my first 5K marathon and I have been walking on my treadmill to get me to the point where I can walk it and now I am working on being able to run the distance. I can run 4 blocks as long as my foot is good. A couple of weeks ago I sprained my tendon on the ball of my foot and had to stay completely off it for over a week before I could walk on it again. I still feel it when I walk for any distance so I haven't been able to get back into jogging yet.

To me HEALTH means Energy. Stamina. Flexibilty. A relatively pain free body. Enjoying healthy food. You are your body, and your weight loss efforts will succeed exactly to the extent that you mange to do the work on behalf of your embodied self. You’ll do much better when you focus on making positive changes to improve your health and well-being, rather than on fighting your bad habits.

Hi Everyone, My name is Dianna. I have been battling my weight all my life and sometimes with a lot of success. I have gained a lot of my weight back again--an old story and I really need to lose it again to be healthy. I am approaching my 64th. birthday this summer and I want to be able to enjoy my senior years and not have to end up having someone to care for me due to my neglect. I have some health issues due to my excess weight and if I can drop at least 30 pounds I am sure I will feel a lot better, not to mention look a lot better. Currently I weigh about 210 pounds give or take a couple depending on the day.

Hello everyone,
I am Wendy, a 58 year old teacher. I had found after doing my work, I was always too busy or exhausted to take care of myself (I thought). The weight kept creeping up. I weighed 162 and my goal is 135. I started the Suzanne Sommers sexyforever.com eating plan on March 1st, and really like it. However, I needed something for encouraging and tracking my fitness levels, so I found SP, which seems to meet that need. I had started losing weight on the SS diet, reached a plateau and realized I needed to work fitness into the equation. So here I am. I am so happy because I am actually seeing results! I am down to 156 today, 6 lbs since I started at the beginning of this month! The inches are coming off too. I am also feeling like I have more energy than I used to have before I started eating more healthy. Sometimes I feel like I'm too tired or it's too late to go to the gym after work. Then, I go anyway, and I see all kinds of people there, working out and having a good time. I end up having more energy for the rest of my day. I appreciate the SP community of support that is here whenever I need you to keep going with my plan. Thank you!

Hi All. I'm Pam (SensoryFoodie, which I am), and I've been on SP for almost three weeks now (really 2.5). I found it after a night of major overeating and deciding I WASN'T going to pay Weight Watchers for getting a community of support, the major thing I needed. So I found SparkPeople. How lucky! So I've been working the program and slowly growing in it. This is my first introduction to this team, the team I chose that represents me: I'm 52.5, a former yoga teacher who has just gotten her Masters in Counseling Psychology, who has moved back to her state of origin and wants to find a job working with kids. I'm also an artist who has seen some recent success and who is growing in her art. My goal is to get to 115, if it works for me, and to own it and keep it. I am not tracking lbs but inches. I stepped on the scale at KMart and three different scales gave me three different readings. Depressing and confusing!

Never mind the scale, Deborah!
You made some great decisions last week. Your body is adjusting to the increase activity level, you're making better food choices without giving up the treats you both like and deserve. One day at a time. The positive results are just out in front of you. Carpe Diem.

Hello, Deborah here, happily married with 2 grown up children- I really would love to lose 20 pounds before the summer hits us, but am going to be realistic, and have set myself a 10 pounds target by mid May- I would be so very happy to do that and feel I will then be spurred on to chip away at the next ten- I had a brilliant week last week, sticking to a very sensible eating plan, exercising most days and drinking a lot of water - Yay! I had a couple of glasses of wine over the weekend but stuck within my allotted calories- However, the scales haven't moved at all- I am disappointed because I tried so hard and stuck with it- I promise myself to be amazing again this week and hope that I manage to shed a pound or two - Fingers are crossed

Hello,
My name is Robert. I am a happily married 51 year old with 5 children. SparkPeople is great isn't it? Since joining last November I have lost 11 pounds. I've been working out 3 times a week with free weights. In addition, I run for 2 miles, 3 times a week. I hope to lose 50 pounds this year. It's my wish to become as fit as possible for my age, height, etc. Hope to make some friends here as well.
peace

Hello everyone,

My name is Nyla. I am 63, live in Texas (Houston). I was widowed about 6 months ago but have 4 wonderful kids (2 step-kids and 2 biological, but all were "ours" and now "mine"). Have 6 grandkids with #7 due in September. I was at my desired weight and then my husband was diagnosed, had treatment and then passed away. SOOO, I regained a bunch of weight, LOST a bunch of fitness and now want to take care of me so that I can enjoy the kids and grandkids in good health for the next 30 or 40 years….. I need to lose about 20 pounds from where I am now (have lost about 12 since the 1st of the year). I also need to add some stretching (my hip flexors are REALLY giving me fits--probably due to how sedentary I have been for the last 2+ years) and some strength training.

I look forward to getting to know you all.

Hi Everyone my name is Patty. I'm 51 and working on losing 20-25 pounds. I started the year eating better but the pull of sugar is so strong it's a struggle. I'm looking for motivation to keep working toward my vision and stop the yo-yo weight game. Glad to find this team it looks very active.

I'm here for the second time around also. I'm 61, My name is
Gail and I have a little more to lose than 24 pounds. But don't kick me out for that reason. Ha! I have very little will power especially when it comes to exercise. I hate it. My husband and I are both retired, and we are both lacking in willpower. He has some physical limitations, so He can't exercise much. We spend a lot of time together, so I feel guilty when I leave him alone to go exercise. Silly I know. It is so hard to lose weight when you're my age. I need help, and encouragement. And maybe along the way I can be an encouragement to others on team, I glad to be back.

Hello new teammates! This is my second time around with Spark. I lost about 20 pounds and over the last three years, I have gained it all back. emoticon

I am 51 and married. I teach middle school. I love it! Those kids are not right, but they are so much fun to work with. Even with all the changes with common core and evaluations, I still enjoy each day. emoticon

I also volunteer for Relay for Life and spend as much time as I can with a special niece and nephew. I have my motorcycle permit and want to get my license this summer. Then I can ride my scooter to Curves!

I know I can be successful with the help and support of Spark!

Hi. I am 60 and never had a real weight problem. Lately the scale has been creeping up. Found out that I have an underactive thyroid, but not bad enough for medicine, so I am trying to get my weight back to where is has been for the last 30-40 years. I am trying to lose 10-15 pounds so that I don't have to buy all new clothes! I live in PA about 30 miles NE of Pittsburgh. Any others near there?

Hello Everyone!!! I am a 63 year old female and I'm so tired of losing the same 10-15 pounds over and over just to find it again! Have dieted all of my life and dropped from my heaviest weight of 178 pounds to a more reasonable weight of 150 pounds over 20 years ago. Just keep battling continually. I have certainly earned the title of Chronic Dieter. I've done all kinds of stupid diets like the grapefruit diet, the cabbage soup diet, the no carb diet and other desparate acts of starvation that do not promoter good health. As I've gotten older I have chosen healthier dieting. Have been member of Weight Watchers and South Beach Diet. Several months ago, hubby and I joined Nutrisystem (he has lost 25 pounds, I have lost 2 pounds. Is that a joke or what? His loss is because he actually eats "normal" serving sizes now.) I've been cooking "healthy" for years due to problems with high cholesterol and pancreatitis induced diabetes. So further changes are hard for me. Looking forward to browsing this site and learning how all of you manage to keep on keeping on.

I am 56 and as I see for others posting, I to have been battling my weight for about 25 years. I'm a forester and when I first started working I would gain a little weight in the winter time and look good in the summer when I was in the field. Now seniority brings a desk job! I have no excuse, however, for not getting healthy. I live in an area that has mountains, forests, lakes, rivers, and streams. I love to hike, swim, and camp. My difficulties are maintaining a healthy lifestyle. I am hoping this site (SparkPeople) will help me with this.

I know God will not give me anything I can't handle. I just wish that He didn't trust me so much.

Hello everyone! I am so excited to have come across this wonderful site! I am 51 years young and engaged to my high school sweet heart! (both of us divorced from previous long term marriages) I have always been interested in healthy living, but turning 50 and finding my Romeo, truly opened my eyes and mind. I am ready to start my new life! Happy, healthy, and full of love! I would appreciate any encouragement and new ideas on my new journey! Also, would love to reciprocate!

Good morning! I am 56, fairly new to SP. Consider myself a lifelong-professional dieter who has let my focus slip since a back injury a year ago. Feeling sorry for myself, I have allowed my food issues to take over and have been sitting around waiting to feel better. Well, last week I decided enough is enough and ordered my Spark activity tracker. So far, so good. Back up walking on treadmill and making better food choices. Watching the wine. So here we go! Looking forward to the year ahead!!

Great job DEANNROM! Whatever you're doing keep up the good work! emoticon

Hi everyone. I’m 52 years old and I've been an on again off again Spark People member for about 4 years. I'd like to either lose 10 - 15 pounds or gain some of that weight in muscle and at the same time lose the fat. :) So I don’t particularly care what the scale says, I just know I’m carrying around too much fat for my own comfort. And too little muscle. I've always been a pretty high energy person, but am noticing that energy going down a bit in recent years.

My weight normally stays pretty much the same, although I have to constantly monitor myself to make sure I don’t gain. I logged back into the site this past weekend after my jeans got too tight from my yearly 5 pound winter weight gain.

I think this time I have the motivation to stick with a plan. I find myself wanting to make good food choices and although I not terribly enthusiastic about the exercise part, I plan to get in a few minutes each day. I know I need the strength training as well as cardio.

Fall seven times, get back up eight,
Forgive yourself.

Hi, I am 66 years old. I only have about 20 pounds that I want to lose. I say only, but it is very difficult to change my eating habits. I've been in WW for a couple years now. My first WW year I lost 10 pounds. Then thru last July I lost another 10, but it crept up in the Fall with vacations and stayed on thru the holidays. I joined a meetup.com group where I learned about SparkPeople. The group has disbanded but I would like to explore more of SparkPeople. Feeling pretty good today. On December 18 WW weigh in, I was 174.6. This morning my bathroom scale said 169.0. Hooray! Finally I am headed down again.

Happy 2014!

I'm new to this SparkTeam, though not new to Spark People (joined in 2009). I look forward to hearing from you! It has been awhile since I ventured out to try a new team and thought this looked like a really great team.

I am one of those people who loves fitness activities but also loves to eat! I am looking forward to sharing my stories and hearing about yours. In most weeks, I do some activity almost ever day of the week. I especially like going to the gym because my friends make it fun. I love the outdoors and for 2014 I hope to hike a bit more on the weekends - did some last year but aiming for a little more. I eat a lot too and hope in 2014 to find it in myself to fill myself with healthy foods and better balance my plate.

I live with my DH, still work full time and have 2 grown daughters who live about an hour away.

I have been with SP for quite awhile, but just decided to join a group. I really am not sure how much I will be here, but I will be trying my best! My main goal is to create healthier habits and enjoy the weight loss that will automatically come with it. I have a goal set... Another 11 pounds to go, but that is a soft goal. It may change. I use SP, spark recipes, skinny taste, organize yourself skinny, and MFP. Once I get down to a weight where I feel best... Maintenance is my biggest struggle.

Slow and steady!

If you take off some weight, fine, but right now I think you need exactly what you said, something to take your mind off of your pain. We are such a chatty bunch, that might help

Glad you are seeing a professional. I am sure your counselor will give you help, and maybe when you are ready, she/he, might refer you to some kind of a support group. I am sure your friends want to be supportive, but maybe your attitude will be the best for you in the long run, As you have said something else to think about.

Remember, one day at a time, in some times, one minute, one hour at a time.

God Bless

shrinkbug and Bonnie, thank you for your kind responses. Yes I used to come to this forum a while back. Re: my support systems, I have lots of friends who would gladly listen to me talk and cry, anytime. I choose not to bother them most of the time, instead I see a licensed counselor. Or I use facebook to share an occasional feeling, I just don't like to make a habit of doing this as I don't want to interfere with others' enjoyment of their own lives and hobbies. So anyway, thanks again. I believe I will take your suggestion to use the other chat forum here as well. A Fine Chat, was that it/ sounds good. In a way I'm not even sure of why I'm bothering to try and take off the stupid ten pounds I keep gaining and losing. Only that tracking my daily intake and reading articles and blogs on SP gives me something to take my mind off other things, on my days off. emoticon

I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I can't even get a grip on how devastated you most be.

I agree with Shrinkbug, I hope you are with a grieving support group for you and others who have experienced such a loss.

I have been coming on this introductory thread suggesting that the people here come to the A Fine 50+ Chat!!!. There are quite a few of us, and a lot of us are on the thread daily. Please come over and introduce yourself there, I know you will not be waiting too long for someone to talk to you. The thread is on this same team, so go to the team page and you should find us.

You are also welcome to join us.

Suzy,
This is that time of year when everything seems worse that it is. Yucky cold arctic vortex after the holiday season. After reading about your loss, I can just imagine your despair.
Hang in there!
Your loss is so recent.
Do you have anyone helping you through this loss? Do you have someone who will listen when you want/need/must talk about your Patrick?
Thinking of you -

hi. I decided to try SP again, had success in the past losing fifteen pounds. too bad I've regained ten. one of the reasons I left SP was that the message boards I tried to belong to, moved so slowly. Hardly ever a new post from anyone and seldom did I get any responses to mine. It was frustrating so I tried "dieting" on my own but wasn't very focused. Now my life has changed. It changed on 11/19/13 when my 29 yr old son was in a terrible motorcycle crash. He suffered horrific injuries, lived 33 hrs, then died. I am left with my daughter, my husband and my son's nine year old boy who fortunately lives nearby so we see him often. I lost my appetite for about two weeks but it returned with a vengeance. All I want to do is eat sleep and cry. However I have to keep myself together most of the time because I have a ft professional job in health care. I'm grieving terribly, cannot believe it happened, think maybe I will wake up and Patrick will be standing there saying Sorry mom it was a bad dream. The last thing I need on top of everything else is to gain more weight. Although it's only ten pounds or so, I seem to be on a bad eating spiral with the junk/fast food and eating way too much at one sitting.I'm afraid if I don't get a hold of this now, I will end up an obese depressed woman of 62. At least I can control one of those things.

Hello, I am 53 years young! I have struggled with my weight since I went through surgical menopause when I was 46 and gained 30lbs. That's a lot for a small person. I worked the South Beach program and lost 14 lbs. I have been stagnate since July. So I am really ready to try something new. I enjoying doing physical activities but find it hard to stay consistent with any exercise program, or outdoor activities such as riding bike, and walking. I like to quilt, and sew and cook. I enjoy riding my bike and going on motor cycle rides.
