Hi everyone, I am 54, postmenopausal and extremely frustrated at my complete inability to lose even one stinking pound despite eating clean, exercising regularly and doing my very best to eliminate sugar and processed foods.

My doctor told me to give up on the weight loss, that it is impossible at my age but I really want to prove her wrong. So far she has been right, darn her!

If anyone has any good advice on how to get rid of this rotten menopausal belly fat I AM ALL EARS!

Looking forward to getting to know you all.

Kelly

Hi Everyone! I'm going to be 50 in October so not "technically" qualified to join but hope it is close enough.
I've been medically retired since 2014 due to Multiple Sclerosis. I've got 2 amazing grand kids. Abel is 4 & Kinleigh is 1 year old today!
I was keeping the kids everyday since Abel was born but my daughter decided she wanted to be a Stay-at-Home mom so I now have no reason to make my self be productive.
I'm hoping this page will give me the push to not just sit around.

I agree. It seems each year one bad eating decision results in pounds coming on and then months of diligence to get that back off...

At this point, I am trying to diet off the stops at Dairy Queen while on vacation the end of June. Getting those 5 pounds off is much harder than it seemed to be 4 years ago.

I am losing weight 10% at a time. I can do this!

I think the closer you get to your goal the harder it is to lose, it may take longer but if you just stick with it those pounds will eventually come off.

Hey there! I am new here but not to Sparks. Been here for many years, which kind of tells a lot, but took a couple of years off. Since I left, I now have my friend hypothyroid with me. It really through me for a loop, but now I am hoping to get some motivation and learn how to be accountable. I know I cannot do this alone, I am hoping that you guys can help me with that, and one day I can pass it on to someone else. I am 60 years old, and wanting to be healthy compared to feeling just plain lazy.
It will be nice to meet you all.

Hi, I am new to this site, looking for a little accountability. I will be 73 yo in Dec and would like to be at least 10# lighter by then. I am being faithful with my trackers. It does make it easier if you can see what you are doing on a daily basis. My daughter and my 2 precious grandbabies live with me. Most of the women in my family have lived to be in their 90's, so I could be around for maybe 20 more years. I would like those years to be healthy, active ones. My biggest challenge at the moment is the exercise. I have arthritis and am looking for exercise that does not aggravate that. I found one of the little side boxes that mentioned exercise over 60. Sooo
I am going to start that today.
Wish me luck. Have a blessed day

Hi, new to Spark and so glad to find this team! I have 20 pounds left to lose, but now that I'm closer to 60 than I am 50 it seems almost impossible!

Hi guys, new member here. I am a 53 year old man. I was a single dad for 16 years and when the kids moved out I retired (at 48) and moved to the Philippines. I live on a rice field with my new wife. Been here a little over 4 years and doing well.

I started changing my relationship with food back in Sep 2016, and lost a little over 20 kg so far. I have about 10 more to lose and have been stuck for 2 months. Bummer ha ha

Wow there are a lot of Pams here! I'm another one, my user name is Florafauna because I like being outdoors and I know a little about plants. I'm here because my doctor's scale read 160 lbs, and that is ten pounds less than I weighed when I delivered my full term 10 lb baby. Granted that was 34 years ago, but I feel the pounds creeping on in the most sneaky way. I'm going to be 63 years old this summer, and I don't seem heavy from the waist up, but dang if those hips don't measure 44 inches! All my weight seems to gravitate to my bottom and I'm in no shape to pull a Nikki Minaj. I notice my pants are uncomfortable, so I'm hoping a 12 pound weight loss will get me back in the groove of eating healthy. My husband is tagging along trying to lose a belly that's gone kind of out of control. At Halloween someone he didn't know laughed about the 'pillow' in the front of his costume... (gulp) Since then it's actually gotten bigger. Wish us luck!

Hi! I am not new to spark, have been a member since 2013, but I am new to the 50+ group. I turned 50 in January and I am finding that loss and maintenance is a new ball game. My name is Sue, I live in Corpus Christi, TX. I have lost 60+ lbs since joining spark, but have been at a the same weight now for several months and just can't seem to get rid of those last 10-15 lbs. I admit, I can be slack at times about journaling my food intake and I have a hard time getting inspired for new and interesting things for dinner. Looking forward to getting to know everyone and hopefully getting a few tips and advice on how to navigate the world 0f 50+ and weightloss.

Hi!

Like the poster below, I'm not new to SP, but SP seems new to me! It has changed a lot since I was last here. Have hit my mid-fifties and weight is hard to take off, despite being fairly active. I think it's a matter of my poor eating habits! Here to learn new strategies and pick up some forward motion.

Hello!!

I've used SparkPeople on and off for a few years, but now I'm new to the 50+ age group. It seems that weight loss or even maintaining gets so much harder with age!

(This time) I've been using SparkPeople for several weeks, since I had to unbutton the top of my jeans to comfortably drive home from a party. Ugh! I exercise regularly, and eat pretty healthy. My weakness is snacking on junk food all night. If I "have" to log it, it makes it easier to avoid it. I find that rather than snacking on junk food, I just go to bed earlier, which is a good thing.

This is my first ever community post, so I hope I'm doing it right!

Good luck to all!

Kathy

Hi Everyone!
I'm 5'3 and 157 lbs. I need to lose at least 22 lbs to be healthy and feel good about myself. I'm obsessed with losing weight! I think about it all the time, but only manage to lose 5 - 7 lbs, only to regain them. I usually go on different diets, such as low-carbs, Whole30, WW, etc. etc. The great news is that my family and I eat pretty healthy most of the time. I just have to make sure not to go over the 1200 calories allowed and to exercise. So, this time around, I think I will just continue eating healthy and log in my food (which I never do). Wish me luck!!! Here I go...

Hi everyone, Thanks for the invite 😊, I am new to Spark, 52 years old, and really starting to enjoy my age. 5 foot 2, 155 pounds and need to lose weight due to high blood pressure and low back pain. Just started walking on my treadmill, but having problem drinking 8 glasses of water daily. One day at a time is my new mantra, lol. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi sparklers🤗 I used to post here daily. It's been along time. I just turned 56. I63.5 pds 5'1. I'm a tennis playing wife, mom, & Gma of 8! I was diagnosed w/diabetes (shocker sugar disease) nov 2015 w/an A1C of 12.0. Today I'm 8.0. Much better but a-ways to go! My cute young doc says if I lose 10 pds my #s go down! So here I am doing what I know works! Tracking, sparking, accounting for my wt & movement, sharing my goals. Hope we can do this together! 🙄Maci

Hello I'm not totally new to spark. I've been an infrequent user under a different account for 10ish years. I eventually always found it too time consuming. BUT I've moved up in phone technology and now have a smart phone. I'm hoping this is the tool makes all the difference. So I'm starting fresh with a new account. One and a half years ago I enrolled in a National Diabetic Prevention Program. I lost 75 lbs and dropped my A1C from 6.1 to 5.5. Since I finished the program I've regained 11 lbs. The plan is to use Spark to improve tracking myself. As well as find and provide inspiration and support.

Hi!
I tried fit bit last year. Without the group support, it didn't go so well. So here I am...It's been a long time since I have posted here. My new year's resolution is to get on to Spark People, network, find support, and lose some serious weight.
My children are both away at college. So I have the extra time to devote to eating right and exercising. That is my plan. Good luck to everyone!

I am losing weight 10% at a time. I can do this!

Hi everyone.

Just joined this team. I'm 55 and trying to get back into taking fitness seriously - again. Seems to get harder and harder every time I try but I refuse to give up.

Looking to give and receive support.
All the best to you all.

Put on some upbeat music.
If you find yourself dancing in your seat, take it a step further. Get up and start dancing on your feet.
You'll burn more calories that way.

Hello all: I'm new to this Team but not new to SP; I've been with Spark for almost 7 years. I initally lost 30 pounds and maintained the loss for several years. Over the past 3 years, I've gone through some personal loss AND am a card carrying member of the Menopause Club. Through the stress, I've managed to gain the weight back.

It's been hard to loose the weight but I haven't been taking the process very seriously. I've had a long talk with myself and am addressing some personal issues and am getting serious about getting healthy again.

I'm a grandmother (Memaw); I have 2 grandchildren and two more on the way. I know I won't live forever but I'd like to play with the little ones without feeling like I'm going to fall over and pass out.

I already feel like this team will inspire me and help me along the way. I'm looking forward to getting to know you all. Cheers, Bella emoticon

I believe in myself, I am a strong woman. I will reach my goals, NOTHING & NOBODY will hold me down. I will live my life with integrity and intention. I will set a good example for my daughters and my son. I will be a woman that makes my grand children proud when they look at pictures of me long after I've left this earth.

Hello everyone,

I'm new as well. I also questioned whether this is the best time of year to begin a new health regiment but like some of you, I am the heaviest I have been in my life and am anxious to shed some of this weight. I was approximately 170 lbs when I began this journey on Dec. 13 and I'm pleased to now be under the 165 mark.I hope to continue my progress and to work toward my goal of losing 20 pounds by mid April when I travel to Italy with a group of friends. I enjoy getting out and walking but have been finding it hard to fit in more consistent exercise.

Hi my name is Pam. I am 53 and just rejoined spark. I like some others have noticed how big I am getting in photos. My goal is to lose 23 pounds an if I get there maybe 5 or 10 more. I have not had much luck in losing more than a couple of pounds , so I am really going to try this time.

Hi all - I've had it. You know that feeling when you see photos of yourself and you finally realize how big you've become -- and you feel like you aren't that bad? Just went through that with Thanksgiving photos- oh my Lord, so depressing.

So I am going to get back to exercising and eating right - and try and lose 20 lbs. I just can't keep going like this. I know it's a bad time of the year to do a diet, but I hope to at least get in the groove and get going and be ready right after the holidays.
Nice to meet you all!

Hi all, I'm new to SparkPeople, and liking it a lot so far. I have some weight to lose, but mainly am trying to get back into shape as part of my recovery from health crisis this past year. I have quite a ways to go, but I am determined!

I have about 5 pounds left to reach my goal weight this year. If it works out I would like to lose a total of 10 pounds. I have lost 50 pounds since February 1. I eat my lunch and supper later in the day and use part of my meals for a snack, every 3 hours I eat something,so I eat 5-6 times a day. My last snack is 1-2 hours before bed or I will wake up 3 hours after bedtime and eat.

Hi. Sometimes it's those last 10 or 15 lbs. thatget to us. Doesn't seem like a lot but can make a huge idfference in health and fitness. How about sipping tea or other beverages instad of snacking while watching TV.IOr standing up and using light weights while wattching insgtead of eaating?

Hi,
Welcome Chickywoo1 and everyone!
I just joined Spark people today. I'd like to lose 15 pounds, but really at this point I'd be satisfied with just 5 so I can feel a little more in control. I gained 15 pounds since the summer of 2015. I'm re-dedicating myself today - right before the holidays, which may seem crazy, but I think it will help keep me on top of things. I tried weight watchers this summer but i didn't last on it very long although i've been succesful on it in the past. I used to run a lot and am trying to go to the gym more. 4 times a week is my goal. I went today, and ran on the treadmill for 30 minutes. I used to run a lot more! I'm 53 and would like to get my weight under control! Am aiming to log all my food each day too. emoticon

I am new to SP, so thrilled to find this sight. I have 20+ ponds to lose and I'm finding that it's extreamly difficult. I need a change...to shake things up a bit. When I saw that this sight had so many challenges I thought that it might work for me! I need the accountability! Also, the doctor says a whole foods diet so here we go! 😀🙃

Hi, Been gone from this site for some time. But here I am again, still working to lose 10-12 lbs to get down to 140 lbs.Just got bloodwork report and my glucose levels went up for the second time, LDL high also. So even more reason to get back on that horse by eating better and exercising.

Hi everyone,

I am looking to lose 15 pounds and I seem to keep gaining instead of losing. This is much harder in my fifties than it has ever been before. My biggest downfall is snacking at night time. I want to build new behaviors of things to do in the evening instead of snacking in front of the television.

Hi, I have joined Spark people April 30 and lost 18 pounds. From Feb. 1 to April 30 I lost 30 pounds on my own, total lost 48 pounds. 4 pounds to goal. I had a blood clot 2 years a go for 8 months and gained weigh of 35 pounds because of lack of exercise and proper diet till I improved and got rid of clot in 8 months. Since high school, about 30 years I gained 13 pounds only. I have lost all weight gained since high school and because of my health. I have lost 10 inches from my waist and body fat was 52% and has stayed at 28% for 3 months now. I now take the same size clothes as high school. I have never had a weight problem. I have chronic kidney disease stage 2 as of last year, got 100 blood tests last week and get results Tuesday. Dr. suspects I need a biopsy in the hospital for possible kidney growth.

I have mild chronic kidney disease and low blood pressure & many blood clots in my lung for 3 years. For the past 12 months I have pneumonia, 1 collapsed lung & glass attenuation in both lungs that can be a sign of cancer as well for, this has got worse.I am 54 years old as of last January 12.

Hi, everyone,

My name is Jeannette. I am 68, Norwegian and Irish. I was my Mom's primary caregiver for 15 years. She died of Alzheimer's at the age of 95 on August 1, a long productive life except for the last five years which no one should have to go through. She is now at rest.

During the time I cared for her I was able to lose 30 pounds and maintain that loss for several years. But during her last five years is when I regained the 30 pounds plus. I've have tried several times to lose and would lose a few only to regain. So now that the stress is over, I joined SparkPeople to take care of myself. I will need encouragement and hope after a while will be able to do the same for others. This sounds like a good group to join. I welcome you into my life!
