46 year old woman looking to lose 45 pounds. I'm down six so far! I have been married for 23 years and have a 15 year old Aspie (autistic) daughter and a 12 year old NT (neuro-typical) son. My biggest problem is my sweet tooth, but learning to tame it.

I'm 41, soon to be 42, and need to lose about 30 pounds. I'm a single mom with 2 elementary aged children. I'm overwhelmed as to where to start. I have tried to use the food tracker, but find it to be a major hassle. I do have food allergies (nuts) and some foods that I do not eat out of texture/taste issues. I did join the YMCA and plan to try to get a schedule for working out. My kids love to swim, so I will be doing that on occasion.

Travis here. I'm a retired Marine who started at 285 pounds. After 6 weeks, I'm down to 270. I'm sticking to a 500 calorie deficit and walking about an hour a day with a 45 minute weight routine.

Any advice for muscular men around 16% body fat to reach about 10-12%? My goal is 245 by July or August and right now I'm taking about 200 grams of protein in my diet.

I didn't even know there were teams on SP. Checked my email and found my way here from there. Well...thanks for the add. I'm Jennifer. Long story short O have a daughter turning two this month, diagnosed with Prader Willi Syndrome. In January I was 195. I'm now at 172. I'm not on a diet. I am on a lifestyle makeover.

Hi Tracy - I'm so sorry for your loss!! Take each day as it comes and know that what you are doing to take care of yourself is probably the best thing you can do. I'm fairly new to Spark and the group and am working on taking care of myself as well. WE can do this!

My name is Tracy. I am a mom of 3 teenagers.
when I got married and had my kids I forgot to take care of myself. As the kids got older, my grandparents became ill and I had to help my mom take care of them. (I wouldn't change that for anything ). Then after my grandfather passed my dad became seriously ill and that was my dad so I had to take care of him.
My dad died 5 years ago and, with the help from my best friend, I realized that no one had been taking care of me. No one.
I started eating healthier, I started walking. I lost close to 30 pounds. Then life got in the way again. And Tracy was pushed to the back.
My mom died tragically in December and there are no words to describe what I have been thru these past 3 months. I don't know if I will ever be okay again.
But that same friend told me the other day that now it's time to get Tracy back.
My health has suffered from all of this neglect...high blood pressure, anemia, depression, obesity.
I weigh 217 pounds, that's not the heaviest I've weighed but it's definitely not where I want to be. I know weight is just a number but I want a smaller number. I want to be healthy. I want to be happy (for the first time in a long time) with who I am.
I started back to the gym on Monday. I have a personal trainer (I need the help and the accountability). I have started eating healthier.
There's no doing this for that person or this reason. It's not a diet plan for me it's a lifestyle change. I'm doing it for me this time

Welcome to the team Goodbreaker!

The app on the phone is an awesome tool. setting up your page may require you to be at a computer. But the app is nice and like you said...it's always there!

Break down the weight goal into small achievable and realistic measurements. Your long term goal of losing 125lbs is great, but when you look at it as a whole it may overwhelm you. Even the 40lb weight loss can seem daunting. But if you say I'm happy with 8-10 lbs per month and a weight loss of 40lbs within 6 months, that may be more realistic.

Good luck on the journey!

If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves. 傍homas Edison

I've known for a while that I needed to do *something* about my weight. I've attempted things before on my own, but without some sort of tracker, I lose motivation quickly.

Stuff happened at work yesterday that reminded me of SparkPeople (I've been here a few times before) and I went to look for an Android app. Because having to go to the website every day, trying to remember what I'd eaten for breakfast when I couldn't log in until after dinner, always feeling like I was playing catchup, these things all contributed to my wandering away and eventually giving up on the latest round of weight loss. So I figure if it's on my phone, which never leaves my side, I've got a better shot at sticking to it for a little longer. ;)

My current goal is to lose 40 lbs. Ultimately, I'd really like to lose about 125. I don't honestly know if that will be a healthy weight for me when I get there, so we'll see what my doctor says as I go. But that's where I was when I discovered I was pregnant with my now college graduate, and it sure would be nice to get there again.

Hi Amy

Welcome to the team. No need to worry about being an introvert. I am too, plenty of us are. That's what makes this online tool so helpful. We can choose to interact when we want and how much we want.

Welcome Minyon

With the discussion you had with your physician, did you discuss meeting with a nutritionist or go over your daily calorie intake? I ask because maybe your calorie intake is too low which may make your body hold on to the calories and stall out weight loss.

Take your food log and have the doctor look over it and mention your calorie intake.

I know this site and many others have really great information about nutrition and help us calculate what we need based on information we've entered but it's not the same as a professional looking at your logs, identifying potential problems, reviewing calorie intake with exercise, etc.

It's definitely harder to lose weight in our 40s but not impossible.

Welcome to our team and wishing you success. Don't give up or buy that new wardrobe. I think you'll figure this out before you have to do that.

Hi Folks,
My name is Minyon and I turned 40 in November and my body has never been the same. I've been using Sparkpeople for years and was able to maintain my 40 pound weight loss until December. Now I've gained about 20 pounds and can't seem to lose it, even though I'm eating healthy, logging my calories and exercising on a regular basis. I'm so frustrated that the normal weight loss things are not working for me. Everyone around me seems to think I'm exaggerating about the weight gain because they haven't really noticed it. However, I've been wearing my clothes 2 sizes to big for years and now those clothes are tight. I feel like it happened over night, one day my pants were tight, the next day I couldn't get them up past my thighs. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to lose the 20 pounds? I'm ready to give up and just buy bigger clothes and get rid of all the clothes that may never fit. I had my thyroid tested last week, no issues there. I went to a new doctor hoping that she would have some useful ideas, not so much. She didn't believe that I was actually logging all my food, what she didn't know is that I am compulsive when I'm tracking my food. She told me that my BMI was not high enough to give me weight loss medication, which really shocked me. I don't want medication, I just wants some help getting back to my pre-40 body and weight. I've never had children but now I have a belly that looks like I'm 3 months pregnant even though my calorie intake is between 1200-1400 calories a day.

Hi all. I'm usually a big introvert so this whole message board/community thing is a new part of this for me. I've always been convinced that I could chart and log and quietly muscle my way into losing weight without involving another person at all. But I think it's time to try to do this with a team-as going it alone with weight loss just isn't working, I have to concede after several years.

I'm a mother of three delightful teen girls and happily married to a lovely man. I'm a printmaker and artist, and I work full time. I love getting outside to hike and walk, but I also love to bake sugary warm things and read and curl up on the couch with a blanket. And I need to lose a total of 25 pounds. So here's to trying to do it by being inspired by your stories and successes and challenges and by logging in to share my own this time. My own introvert's challenge. :)

Hi! I'm also not new to SP (3rd start for me!) but I am new to this group. In reality, I need to lose 100 lbs, but that just seems so far off & impossible. I'm hoping splitting it into mini-goals will help me stay motivated & focused. Looking forward to getting to know people & learning from everyone!

Hi, I'm new here although I admit I have signed up several times over the past year and not stayed with it very long! We have moved 3 times in the past year and are now settled, thankfully, and so I believe I can do better this time. I need to stay focused on losing the pregnancy weight I put on. I gained 70 pounds. I'm only 5 feet tall and so it is a lot on my frame. And on my feet! I have 40 pounds to go to get to my pre-pregnancy weight. I gained similarly with each of my other pregnancies too (I have 5 children) and the weight came off but it was harder each time. I'm 41 and can tell my metabolism has slowed down and my motivation has dwindled too. Hopefully this site will be helpful to give me a boost to get started and stay focused past more than a few days! :)

Hi: My name is JoAnn. I just joined today and am looking forward to the online support. I started physio on my knee yesterday and will be in physio for the next month. I am supposed to limit my walking to only normal day to day walking (no walking for exercise which I enjoy), and do my physio exercises twice per day, which I am committed to doing. Are there any other types of exercise which I could do, which does not require any use of my injuried knee and will help me in my weight loss over the next month? I appreciate any suggestions.

Hey, all. My real name is Dawn ;) I am new to SparkPeople. I am currently looking to drop 33 lbs. Not sure on the timeframe (hubby thinks I can do better than 1 lb a week). I need to watch my carbs because of being pre-diabetic.

I look forward to interacting with everyone.

Hi everyone! My name is Sherri. I have been a member on Sparkpeople since April of 2015. I have managed to lose 29 pounds since then. This morning I decided to see how much weight I still needed to lose to get to a healthy weight. I thought that I still needed to lose over 50 pounds. Wow! I was wrong! I need to lose about 45 pounds to get to a healthy weight! I decided that it was time to leave the 50 to 100 pounds to lose group and to join this one instead! Wow! Definitely celebrating today!

Hi Everyone! I'm a re-introducing myself to this team. I've been a Spark Member for about 8 years. I have "fallen off the wagon" and getting myself back on this week. I have recently gone through a lot of stress and have gained back 30 pounds that I want to lose. As I am now in my 40s it seems a little harder than it was 8 years ago! I"m looking forward to the support I know I can find on Spark!!

I'm Mandy. Have been a sparkpeople member for some time and have recently recommitted to a healthier me. I'm in touch with how much my eating "relaspes" over the years have prepared me for success. :) Feeling very motivated to having a changed relationship with food.

I'm a mom living in Illinois,

I have what it takes to succeed!

I'm Maria and I'm 48 in desperate need of losing 30 lbs. I used to be very lean and athletic but after some set-backs, wound up where I am now. Looking to give and receive motivation, tips and support. Happy I found this team!

Hey guys,

I'm Heather and I'm 42. I am looking to get those 30 pounds I lost a decade ago off again. I lived in Europe for 5 years and my move back to the US was awful for my eating/exercising habits. Time to get moving again! I hope to get to know all of you over time.

New to spark and the whole weight loss program. Had never had an issue with weight while serving in the Army and even in the first few years after retiring but after hitting 45 and deciding to quit smokeless tobacco at about the same time - I found a bunch of weight that I now want to lose.

A friend recommended this site as a good source to track my intake and progress. So far, after a week and 5 pounds of weight shed it has helped. I have found that my self control and the amount (portions) I was eating had much to do with my problem.

In all, I am hoping to lose a total of 35 pounds.

Hi, I'm new to this team but not to the Spark. I've been in and out since 2009 and I'm hoping that interacting a little more will give me the push that I need. I entered my 40's last fall and all this weight loss stuff feels like its getting harder and harder. I don't enjoy exercising but have recently discovered that I am extremely motivated by a challenge, hopefully that will last through the 30 pounds I've set as my goal. I have two weddings to attend in September and I hope to be near my goal by then!

Hi,

I've been a member of this group for a long time but I've never posted, I am doing it now because I'm hoping all the research is right and community involvement helps keep me on track.

I've been off the Sparkpeople wagon for a while and it's time to get back on. My biggest challenge is staying focused on the tracking. When I see the scale drop I think 'ok, I get it now' and stop tracking - we all know how that creeps up!

I used to be a runner but due to back issues I am no longer allowed to do that so I'm struggling to find exercises I enjoy and can do pain free. Walking and Pilates have been my go to's lately. I was doing 21 day fix workouts and meal plan back in September and they worked until it triggered my back. I was really bummed because it was making a big difference. I felt GREAT and I LOVED the workouts - I am hopeful that dropping some weight will help with the back and allow me to return to some more challenging activities.

February 1st seems like a great day to get this party started.

My goal is to drop 25 pounds by Memorial Day, we all want it faster but I'm trying to be patient - not my best thing! emoticon

Happy Monday!

Hi everyone! I'm Laura, and am completely new to SP. I'm a 47 yr old mom to two - a 22 yr old and a 7 yr old who has more energy than a power plant. I've fought this battle a few times over the years, and have decided I'm mostly happy with my weight - though losing 30 (or maybe a little more than that) would be great for me health-wise. What I'm not happy with is how my weight is making my knees feel. I've had bad knees for years, and my current weight is just making them worse. So here's hoping that paying attention to what I'm eating, and making sure I'm getting out and moving will help add a few years to my knees and some ability to keep up with my younger child.

Hi, This is the third time for me on Sparkpeople and I can honestly say that I am ready for the journey this time. I am losing weight and getting fit for the right reasons. It isn't to please my husband or just to look better, I am doing this to get healthier. I had a couple of health scares last year and it just hit home that I have to do this to live a long life so that I can see my kids grow-up. I have been doing this now for 3 weeks. I wanted to wait to post here until I knew I could follow through. I have been tracking my food, water and exercise. I can see that I need to eat more fruit and veggies, eat less fat and get up and move more. I wish you all well on this journey that we are on.

Hello. I'm not technically "new" but have been an inactive member and am back and wanting to give it my all! I just turned 47 and have been having issues with my blood pressure and was recently put on high blood pressure meds. My doctor also sent me for a physical, after which I found out that in addition to having high blood pressure,I'm prediabetic, have high cholesterol, and my carotid arteries are hardening. Needless to say, that was a horrific wake up call. I have since improved my diet and have become more active. I've lost 5 lbs since January 15. I'm not here just to lose weight anymore. I want to change my lifestyle, improve my health, and get off of medication. I want to be around for my children for many years to come.

Hi COOSEYOURHARDD, I found your reply. You actually made me feel better knowing there are more of me out there! :-) It's funny, but my introductory rant last week was incredibly cathartic, and I have been positive and upbeat this whole last week just for having gotten all that out "in the universe." It feels GREAT to get started here, feels GREAT to have a sense of belonging without having to constantly deplete what little in-person interaction my introversion can handle, and it ESPECIALLY felt great this morning when I weighed in and had dropped almost 2 pounds since last week's Wednesday Weigh-In. :-)

So, I hope your rant was therapeutic for you, and I hope you are motivated to "grab it and growl" (my hubby's favorite thing to say). There are tons of resources here and everyone is so supportive it just really makes me smile to experience it.

Have a wonderful and successful day, and keep checking in!

I apologize, I thought I was replying directly to Jessica0140, but I see that's not the case. So, in case I have lost you with my rant, refer to her previously listed post and it will all make sense! Have a great day everyone!!

Hello twin, although I'd be the larger one. I just wrote my first blog in which my sentiments ran parallel to yours. I'm actually beyond tears about the shape that I am in. I saw a photo of myself that was taken today, and all I wanted to do was delete it. My clothes don't fit, my bras suck, and if I could live in elastic waist pants, I would. But I really can't, not dress code approved, you know, and I really don't want to have to. I really appreciate your honesty, so let's pull out those fitness gadgets gathering dust, and get this done! As for being an introvert, I am with you on that as well. I considered joining weight watchers, but I would have to face a real live person and let them record my weight. Yeah, no thanks, I'll see you later. But I am really missing the support element as well. I work with people who all weigh 100 pounds and eat everything in sight so I need to seek support elsewhere. Hope I didn't bum you out, but maybe it's a good day to be honest!

My children are getting older now (oldest is 18) and I feel that I need to take the time now to focus on my health a bit more. I'm looking forward to exploring the site and getting to know everyone!

Hi everyone, I'm still learning the ropes around here, I posted on the wrong board- whoops
Here's my original post copied from main board.

Hi all, I think the stars must have aligned or something, because I've decided to get my fitness on. I quit smoking a year ago Nov 1st, which also happens to be my rebirthday. I'm a 10 year Colorectal cancer SURVIVOR or have been in remission for 10 years. Some people say you're never cancer free, I like my rose colored glasses :)
Anyway, between surgery and quitting smoking AND turning 40 something my frame has a few unwanted pounds. So, I'm here.

Hello team! I'm 42 and looking to get fit, stay fit. And look and feel good for the second half of my life. I'm pretty good at starting diets and losing weight, then I stop only telling myself it's a short break and I end up putting it all back on. I'm an avid reader.

Hi Jessica

Welcome to the team. We've all tried going it alone at one time ir another. Studies show having a good support system is needed. And I promise (and I'm sure the rest ot the team does too) to be here to support you, be a friend, and help however I can.

Hi, team. I posted this introduction in the main Message Board, then found this team board so...here I am. :) Original post pasted in below:

**********
Hi, everyone. I'm Jessica, and I joined SparkPeople a couple days ago but have been stalling on writing this post to introduce myself. Couldn't figure out why until this morning, when I realized I had been wanting to post an upbeat introduction so I didn't bum anybody out and so I could convince you all I am excited and motivated about this...but, in truth, I'm not.

I'm not excited. I'm not motivated. I'm just...I'm staring at myself in the mirror and reading the number on the scale and finally just need to accept the fact that I'm not healthy and not happy. And it's depressing that I've let myself get this way. I'm wearing my husband's track suits because none of my jeans fit anymore, and the elastic in my bras is shot from being forced to wrap around a chest that's probably two sizes bigger than the size on the tag. Oh, and my body feels weak and everything hurts, to boot.

So I'm skipping the upbeat introduction and just being honest. The whole point of joining this community was to both get and give support, and I can't do either if I don't give you all the information. And by the way, joining this community? That's a choice which, for an extreme introvert like myself who typically avoids social situations and is happy spending time alone, speaks loudly of just how ready I am for help and how there's just no lying to myself anymore about what needs to be done.

So here we go. The first lie to crumble to dust in the sunlight is that I can do this by myself. I can't. Ten years, 30 pounds, and a cluttered pile of dozens of briefly used fitness programs and machines proves it.

I'm 5' 5" and weighed in at 170 pounds a few days ago, not coincidentally less than 24 hours before signing up--in tears--for SparkPeople. I live a mostly sedentary life working at a desk or on quiet projects at home, which means I have time to exercise. I can cook, which means I have the skills to be eating healthy, natural foods. And I have Internet access, which means I can learn or buy anything I could possibly need to do this. So why aren't I doing it? Rather, why don't I keep doing it once I start? I'll get motivated and make lists and schedules and dive headfirst into my "new life," only to get thrown off track by something (you know, life) and wonder six months later what happened to my awesome new routine and why I'm still overweight and in crappy shape.

The only reason I can think of is the common denominator in all my previous attempts: I tried to do it alone. Clearly a bad approach, no matter how good my intentions are, so here I am finally admitting I need help. And that REALLY bugs me to do that. I can and do usually handle most things just fine by myself. But my ego is just going to have to take the hit in this case, because I see no other way to make these changes and make them stick.

So, I need help. Please. And I promise to return the favor when I can.

Thanks for listening, you guys. Really. I haven't even posted this yet and I already feel better for writing it.

Okay, maybe I am a teensy bit motivated to get this going now. I guess I'll go work on my SparkPage and stuff.

emoticon

Hi Sandy,

Welcome to the team! You've had an eventful few years. Good for you on quitting the smoking and sticking with that. it's not easy to do from what I hear and glad you survived the heart attack as well.

You're an inspiration! Surviving so much, losing weight and still having such a great attitude!

Hi Jen

Welcome to the team! I understand running out of free time during the day. Not because of kids---just being busy, taking care of an ill parent, running all over town, work, etc.

Sometimes life gets in our way. We just have to find small changes we can make now and when we have those breaks, make larger changes.

If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves. 傍homas Edison

Hi Lisa

Welcome to the team!

SP has a wealth of information for why diets don't work, things to do to overcome hurdles and making changes that last.

Hi Lanisha

Welcome to the team!

Your mindset is on point. Health is important. And to lose weight, improve our health and even maintain weightloss, we must be consistent.

There are many articles on consistency on SP. Just search the thru the articles tab.

Hi Im Jen. I haven't introduced myself yet, but I joined Spark on Dec 20th. Between studies and work, learning how to be healthy and working out and time with kiddo, my time is limited on becoming active in the groups, but eventually that will change.

Hello All! My goal is to be Super FIT from the INside OUT! I've been on SP for awhile. I initially joined to support a friend with their weight loss emergency so I dabbled but I never took the program seriously but now I am unhappy with my weight and shape so I am on here for ME!

Hi my name is Lisa. I just joined sparkpeople yesterday. When I turned 40 5 years ago I only had 10 pounds to lose now I'm 45 and have 30lbs to lose. I've tried every diet out there and nothing works for me. Hoping a site that holds me accountable will work.

hi! I turned 40 two weeks ago and decided to give this healthy lifestyle another go. I want to lose 30 pounds using a realistic approach with consistency. My weight has been up and down but I understand now how important good health is as we age. I hope to give and receive motivation to help all of us achieve our goals.

Hi all, I know what I need to do but I get discouraged easily and loose motivation. Fighting against low thyroid, hormone and adrenal issues.
