Hi Liz,

Welcome to the team. I'm sorry to hear about your husband but glad he's on the road to recovery.

My family has diabetes on both sides, so health is an issue for me and avoiding diabetes at all cost is really important.

Incorporating more fruits and vegetables, less white breads, pastas and sugars and opting for more grain versions has really helped me.

Since diabetes is in the family...another thought I've had and started doing occasionally is cooking meals from diabetic magazines or diabetic friendly recipes from the web. They're really good and bonus is they're healthy.

Best of luck!

If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves. 傍homas Edison

Hi I'm Liz, 45 I have 2 kiddos, ages 7 and 6. I have a husband who is type 1 Diabetic, and was in a coma for 2 months. Health is really a focus needless to say ;) I'm finding that I have my own issues I need to manage, I have 20 pounds to lose and it is really a battle. I did WW and My Fitness Pal prior to this, but needed help with healthy meal ideas (without paying for a plan) so joined SparkPeople. I use my jawbone UP. My week is generally 10K steps per day and 3 1 hour T-Tapp sessions. I work full time the rest is family and living. Taking it one day at a time, trying to stay in the moment and see the gifts and blessings in the day. Am focusing on the health benefits while I wait on the scale LOL, so...I like the way I look in clothes better than a year ago (I've dropped 130 pounds overall in 6 years), am off my blood pressure meds and have more energy that I did a year ago. Focusing on my eating, glad hubby is also trying, but am leaving him to do what he needs to do.

Hi Karen,

Welcome to the team!

My husband is awesome. He does try to keep me on track. But he also can eat whatever he wants and so that makes it hard. But lately, he's been really supportive and eats his fast food without me. For right now, that's helping me.

I decided that whether he's helping me stay on track or not--I have to do it for myself. It's not his job--it's mine!

Hello, I am Karen. I am 49 and need to lose 35 pounds for health reasons. I also will be feeling better about myself - to say the least! I am finishing up my second Masters degree this summer. The past 2 years I have put on the weight sitting so much as I studied for my classes. I am good with routine exercise (about 4-5 times per week), but my eating is out of control.

I have a loving husband, but he is a softy...he does not like any confrontation and admits he is not the person to keep my on track and be a strong, and confront me when I need it. So I am trying something new for support. I hope it helps :)

Hello!
I used to track here, but none of my friends/family used this site, so I tried others but didn't feel motivated. I've struggled with slow weight gain over the past few years, but recently had to be on Prednisone and gained rapidly and I tend to eat my emotions as well :-( Finally done with that hot mess and I need to lose some weight so I can feel good about myself again! I need help with motivation to stay on track - my workplace surrounds me with unhealthy treats and my family does not support healthy eating much.

I find inspiration through the suggested meals in the tracker here and some friendly online support I think would help greatly.

Thanks for listening!

~Wendelina

Hello,
I'm new to SparkPeople. I am 49 and want to be running consistently when I hit 50 next year. I want to lose 42 pounds by Christmas this year. I think I'm on the right track starting here! Next step, create one of those neat trackers people have on their posts.

Me too. I was on it a while, lost a couple pounds and stopped. I wasn't using all of the benefits, like having friends with similar goals & struggles, who could keep me encouraged. So, welcome back! 😃

I am new to the team. I was on Sparkpeople for a while, and left. It's been almost 2 years since I have been tracking. I'm back now. My daughter is getting married in October and I'd like to not gasp at the pictures of myself when we get them developed. Like I did, 4 1/2 years ago at my son's wedding. I've set more realistic goals and am going to be more diligent about using the community attributes to this fantastic program.

I am new to team but not new to SparkPeople. I am 48 and have gradually put on 1-2 pounds a year for over 10 years. I have not successfully lost more than 5 pounds on any weight loss attempt in recent past. I work out regularly at our local YMCA 4-5x/ wk and enjoy Insanity, P90x, kettlebells, walking/running, elliptical, lifting weights, HIIT, etc. I have a loving husband and I am the mother of 4 (20 y/o, 16y/o, 14y/o, and a recent addition to heaven 5/08/96 -12/24/14). Our kids are healthy, active, and always keep us busy. Any interruption to my exercise regimen and I quickly add on weight - ugh!! My goal is to lose 25 pounds!

Hi, I'm 47 and like many have been up and down with my weight for years. I've gained more weight in the last two years than I ever have and one month ago I decided I'd had enough. I didn't like the way my clothes fit and I especially didn't like how I felt about myself. Like another member has mentioned, I want to enter my 50's and be fit and fabulous. I have a teenage daughter that I want to be a good role model too as well. I think it is damaging for her to see her mother with such a bad self body image. I've tried to cover it for years, but she sees how unhappy I am with my body when I get dressed up for events. I lack confidence in this area and this isn't good. Even after only 25 days or so, I'm feeling much better and positive about what I can do and the future.

Hello All,
I am not new to spark people, but it has been about 7 or 8 years since I participated. Joining again seemed like the perfect Mother's Day present to myself.
I have been a bit lost and unable to find motivation, so this is my first step and prep work begins tomorrow.
Looking forward to sharing this journey with others!

Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the team!

Sounds like you have your hands full (but in a good way).

I also work from home and understand the struggle completely. One trick for me, don't bring junk in the house. I've also heard that people put snack foods for kids in another cabinet or a drawer and then they just never go in that place. I think that would work too.

Hi all. I've been on and off SP for years, and have been exploring the groups. Recently I joined the 30 somethings with 50 to 99 pounds to lose, but...
Well, I'm rapidly approaching 40 (less than a month) and I now have less than 50 pounds I'd like to lose (YAY!).
Personally, I'm a mom to a 3 girls who are 19, 16 and 2 years old. We are starting over with parenthood with our "bonus baby" and she's such a blessing. I work full time from home, and sometimes struggle with the challenges that poses - always multitasking, always close to the kitchen, etc... I don't know that I'm "looking forward" to turning 40, but, it is inevitable, so I'm going to embrace it and keep moving!

Hello all! I am new to this group but not so new to Sparkpeople. I joined a few years ago and this place truly helped and inspired me! I fell out of touch and off track...so, I am baaaaack! :) Looking to keep the spark and hoping to find some friends here that I can motivate myself. Feel free to add me. Have a great week everyone!

I'm positive I can do this
I'm positive I'm making progress
I'm positive because I'm sure of myself
I'm positive because I have a goal!
I'm positive because I know where I am going
I'm positive I'll get there.

Hello all! I'm Malinda and I'm one of those who have battled the bulge my entire life. I know I need to make it a lifestyle change, but I have such a hard time giving up tacos and French fries! Got a FitBit last month and joined SP about 3 days later. Between the 2 I'm feeling motivated and hopeful again. Trying to take baby steps this time instead of going all out. However, I feel I'm getting to the point where I need to bolster up my support team, so here I am! Looking forward to getting to know some new folks!

Hi Jellybean007

Welcome to the team. In order to live your life and care for those you love, you HAVE to take care of yourself.

I'm a chronic self-neglector (just made up that term) but learning how to make ME a priority. It's hard, but if I want to do all the things I want to do and live a nice, long life with my hubby, I've got to take care of me.

Hi,
I lost my weight and kept it off for about 4 years. After a crisis time (lengthy time with a child in hospital) I just never got back into the habit of taking care of myself. At first, I just gained a few pounds. But over the last year I've packed on enough that I am at a record high. Technically, I'm obese, for the first time in my life.
But that's not really the problem. The problem is that I got this way by completely neglecting myself. And I don't want to live that way anymore.
So it's time to melt off some pounds, some bad habits, and some toxic relationship dynamics and start living my life again.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony. -Mahatma Gandhi

Hi, I'm Jill! I"ve been a SP member off and on for years. We moved to Lincoln in fall of 2012, and since then I've really struggled to make my health a priority. I've gone back to work year-round for the first time my kids were born, and it's thrown me for a real loop. I know what I need to do, but maintaining consistent habits has been really hard. I'm looking forward to the team support to help me out when I'm wobbling!

I have never finished a workout and thought to myself, "Now, THAT was a waste of time!"

Hi Heatherlynn

Welcome to the team!

Track everything you eat. You'll discover trends and patterns and will see if you are eating too many carbs or too much fat, for example. It's a real eye opener. Also track your exercise. The tracking tools on SP are awesome for all of that!

If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves. 傍homas Edison

Hi RSherman

Welcome to the team!

Chronic dehydration can be caused by meds (I have to drink twice as much because of my asthma meds). The only thing I do is just power my way through water. I add lemon or water flavor stuff (like Dasani drops) when I can't take any more plain water.

Hi everyone! emoticon

My name is Judy and in a few short months I will turn 45. I'm married going on 20 years this September and we have an almost 8 year old son. I've been basically the same weight for way too long, gaining and losing the same 5 pounds or so over and over again. I'm tired of it and need some extra support and motivation to go beyond and reach my goals of a healthy body and life.

Looking forward to getting to know everyone as we reach our goals together! emoticon

Morning all! As a weight loss/gain it back veteran, I know that support groups are key, but they're always so hard to get into!!! So dipping my toe in and just saying "HI" as I enter my 2nd full week. Got a FitBit last week and joined SP shortly thereafter. Been doing great so far - but I know I'll get bored in about a week or so, so taking that next step and reaching out to others "in the fight" to help with the motivation. Also just started getting into the articles and videos. My ultimate goal is to rock a bikini by the time I'm 50 (just a couple years away)!

Yup, -I never thought I would ever have this "40 thing" with weight. I have always had a tiny waist, great shape, within great weight limits. Now I am 47 and within the last year, I swear, I don't know what took over my body. I cannot lose the 25 pounds I need to! I keep gaining and losing the same 5-7 pounds. Cellulite came out from nowhere. I have a little belly. I am in a size of clothing I can't believe. Summer is almost here and I am nowhere near ready. So, now I am getting serious. I'm going to monitor all I am doing with Spark People, because obviously, I am doing something wrong. - Can't wing it any more. So, today is day #2 for me!

Hello Team! I'm rsherman15, female, about to turn 46 and want to drop about 25 more pounds. I have a lot of body fat that I want to get rid of, but right now my only exercise is walking and a bit of bicycle riding. I have chronic dehydration...I just can't seem to get in enough water, so this limits my activity. I would love your support, suggestions and encouragement. Thanks!

Glad to hear that you are able to start getting active again. We all need support because changing our bad habits certainly isn't easy. I'm ready to begin again also. I'd like to lose 32 pounds by November. Good luck to you and I hope to see you around cyberspace!

Hi Terri,

Welcome to the team!

SP has a wealth of exercise videos that target the abdominals. There are also a lot of videos on YouTube by Jessica Smith and others that are really great.

Click on articles and videos. You can search videos by topic, like cardio or abs.

Welcome to the team Runamagga!

Glad you're doing better after surgery and able to work out. Starting slowly and carefully is good. In fact, SP recommends starting with at least 10 minutes per day just to get the habit formed.

For diet, I always start off with small changes. Incorporating more fruits and veggies, cutting out sodas. And you can do this all slowly.

So glad you're on the team!

Hello everyone: I'm Terri. I am 49 and would like to lose 40 pounds. My main trouble area is my mid-section. Stubborn "spare tire" that just doesn't want to budge. I am a farm wife and mom of 3 beautiful girls ages 25, 17, and 12. Staying motivated to exercise everyday is a challenge for me... I need some good suggestions on exercises that will target that mid-section. Any suggestions???

It's great to be in this group. Thank you! :)

Hi, I'm Andrea, I am 48 and have 30-35 pounds to lose. I was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and although I have been trying to lose weight, I'm hoping now I can see some progress. My challenge is consistency, and working through the exhaustion and achenes. I know I can do it, just need to make myself a priority!
Thank you

Hi everyone,
I joined SP last January but somehow did not make it any further. Now I want to do something about my problems and bad habits. I need to lose 25 lbs.
I'm a 42 years old mom of three. I live in Iceland and work full time. I love excising but I have not been able to do that since September due to knee problems and surgery. Now I'm starting training again, slowly and carefully, but at least that's the start. I look forward to gain more control over my health and weight.
My challenge though will be the diet.I know I will need a lot of support and I'm ready for giving support back to those who need. I look forward to taking this journey with you.

Hi Alisia,

Where in PA? I'm originally from a tiny town about 45 minutes away from Harrisburg.

Welcome to the team!! I feel the pain of not recognizing yourself. But when you look in the mirror-reaffirm what you want to do. See who you want to be. I'm learning to do that, it's hard, but it's supposed to help.

Hi all! I am 47 years old & mom to a 9 year old. I am really needing to get my weight under control. I would love to lose 45 more pounds. I am tired of feeling tired & of looking in the mirror and not recognizing myself. It's sad & depressing. I seclude myself because I'm embarrassed of how I look. I am lucky in that I usually lose weight pretty easily, it's the hitting a wall & gaining it back that is my big problem. I love to walk, hike through the woods, read, cook, turn trash into treasures & I am going to be taking a photography course soon. Would love motivation, help along & friendship. I live in Pennsylvania.

Hello everyone! I'm 47 years old, looking to lose around 47 lbs. I'm new to SP and I'm hoping I can learn my way around this site. I'm looking for motivation and help from others in the same boat as me. I've recently joined our local YMCA and have been faithfully working out about 4 times a week.

Hello Everyone,

I am almost 42 and getting married for the first time this June. My first goal is a 37 pound loss to get to ONEderland. I know I won't get there by my wedding, but I can be well on my "weigh" .. get it? Ok. ok.

I'll check out the challenges and see what I can do this week for the team.

Been a member for 3 weeks now. I love SP. I have around 40 lbs to lose. I live in North Carolina with my husband, 3 cats & 2 dogs. I love to golf, exercise, garden and travel. I have hypothyroidism so losing is really tough; however SP has helped keep me motivated emoticon

SP member from long ago....found out that it's been 547 days since I last logged in....have maintained at 25 pounds overweight for quite a while....now it's time to get rid of that and get back to where I feel my best and where the docs will get off my back (I don't buy their weight range for my height, but where I feel my best is closer to what they want than where I am right now).....trying to get motivated and moving again

Hi my name is Michelle and I will turn 43 this year. I celebrated my birthday for the first time last year. I'm an introvert so I never had a party or get together. I had a photoshoot by someone I fully trusted to take my pictures. This year I find that I want to do this again and am working on losing my weight so I can look my best for my birthday. Because I am an introvert, I do not have a support group outside of social network friends. It is so easy to fall of the wagon when alone. I hope to become more active and consistent this year in my goals. I really want to enjoy all the things life has to offer me. I hope I can learn from everyone and we can reach our goals together this year.

Just live the best life you can live. It's okay to start over. It's okay to lose everything and rebuild. Misery loves company, so choose your company carefully!

Hi I am Nancy and I joined SP almost two weeks ago. I am 46 and trying to lose the 35 pounds that I have gained over the last three years. Up until yesterday I had been really frustrated with working out and not losing any weight. I weighed in yesterday and after six weeks of working out I have lost 4 pounds. I know I can do this because I have lost weight before.
