I am a 48 year old full time employeed almost one year newly wed- who gained back 25 lbs and now made the re boot commitment to take it off- make myself a priority and learn that I must come first in my health. I need emotional support, knowing I have others to move forward with me, helps a lot. the pre meno pot has kicked in and I am kicking it out- ( that's the tummy thing that sucks) but here I am today- back on track that counts for something today- tonight I am going to the gym.

Hi, my name is Lynda, I am 47, a working mom of 6 boys and my goals are to get healthier, like myself again and lose about 30 pounds. My family has had a rough couple of years, lots of stresses, and I work at a job where I sit the majority of the day. Between the stress and being lazy my weight has been creeping up and I now weight the most I ever have. what is a bigger issue for me is I am not happy with myself so today is the day I try and change that.

Thank you for letting me join your group.

Lynda

I'm Traci. I just turned 40 in May. I need/ want to lose 30 pounds. My husband recently bought each of us a Garmin Vivosmart to keep track of our steps and activity level. I'm hoping it motivates me.

I'm a special education teacher getting ready to begin my 16th year of teaching. Once school starts, I will be moving a lot more during the day because my room is in one wing and my students are in a different wing. At least last year, I also had breakfast duty and dismissal duty. Both duties had me on my feet and moving. I can't wait to see how much I really move.

I'm also a mother of two boys - 10 and 12. They keep me busy especially my oldest.

Have a great day!

Hi, well the first time I posted I goofed..trying this again! I am from Texas and working with my doctor on losing weight since March. I have lost 28 pounds and another 45 to go. The number 45 pounds makes me cringe hence why I am joining the board for encouragement and provide encouragement to others.

Hi everyone! I am excited to try something new. I have been yo-yo dieting for many years. I can't seem to stay away from the junk food, especially when I'm studying late at night. I only have four more classes to go until I graduate on October 4th. Woo-hoo! I am also training to run a 5K on October 18th. emoticon

Hi, I'm very green with this site and, although I signed up in 2012, I never really did do much with it for various reason. On my second try now and trying to make sense of all the pages on the site...Tracking food intake is very tough for me especially when it comes to homemade recipes (i.e.: lasagna with homemade spaghetti sauce etc.) Are we to count every single thing we put in that lasagna and that sauce when we make them? If so, it's going to take me double the time to make the stuff... Just measuring my little cereal bowl took extra time that I just don't have. Are there any tricks to not getting discouraged at measuring every single thing?? I believe that's probably where I start losing interest in keeping this up...too much time is consumed at measuring everything...

I will need help with this site for sure...I'm trying to find recipe ideas from the sparkpeople and only find apps to be downloaded...is my plain old computer no longer sufficient we now all need smart phones or iPads from apple to get the info we're looking for?? :(

Hi! I've been on Sparkpeople off and on for a couple of years. I've never maintained focus long enough to get all the way to my goal. I've lost some and felt great and then slacked off. I know the key is tracking. That's tough for me to do - I usually manage a couple of weeks and stop but I know it's possible to stay with it!
I used to be a runner but back surgery has removed that from my options so I'm working on finding new exercises I can do that don't involve pounding motions and are still fun. So far the elliptical is ok and some videos at home on other days. Any other ideas?

Looking forward to supporitng each other on this journey to better health!

Welcome to the team N3WSGAL.

I've learned that we have to make time. We are just as much of a priority as work, kids, husbands, etc. If we don't learn that and don't put ourselves first, we suffer.

Glad you are finding time for you!

Hi Becky,

Welcome back to Spark and to the team!

I love walking outside--but not when it's 115. I'm in So Cal, so we don't get that hot, but we do hit 100s in the summer.

I just bought a DVD that has some barre and piyo on it. Can't wait to try it!

Hey everyone! Beth from Northern Ontario here. I've spent most of my life having to actively "manage" my weight.

After two years working swing shifts, I'm 40 pounds heavier than I want to be. I can't even bring myself to look in a mirror these days.

Time to make some changes before it's too late. Hoping this place will give me the kick I need.

Hi! I'm Lexi - today I signed up on Spark People. Weight has been creeping up on me for the past several years. Half the time I down play the situation in my head thinking "you don't look that bad" while the other half of the time feeling guilty that I have "let myself go". Today I hired a personal trainer at my gym to help me with a fitness plan and I am determined that making a financial sacrifice will help me be accountable. I am 49 years, 1 month and 3 days ... I want to be in the best shape of my life when my 50th birthday rolls around next June!!

Hi all , I am back to SP after a couple of years. My bad management of an injury has seen me hobbling around for a year and putting back on pounds. I am hoping to find suppport here to help me get into a good routine again. It seems like an insurmountable task but I guess I need to focus on mini goals - something I am not that great at as it makes me think about how rubbish I have become at exercise!

Hello everyone
Becky from Phoenix, AZ here! This is my second time on Spark. I had joined about 3 years ago and lost about 40lbs. I have gained about 25 back and need to get back on track again. I have not been working out at all. I use to hike a lot. Since it is 115 here in Phoenix I joined YouFit so I can get going with this fitness thing again. I also enjoy PiYo!

Hi, I'm Sherry and I've been on SP (on and off) for about 2 years. Back on and trying harder than ever this summer, maybe because I'm heavier than ever. Hope to meet some new friends here; I'm finding being forty-something surprising and a little more difficult than I had expected! My present goal it to lose about 30 pounds.

Hi I'm Nicki and am 41. I'm hoping to lose 40ish pounds before March 2016 as we will be going on our third cruise and want to be tank top confident! I'm hoping that by joining Spark People will help keep me a little more motivated and 'honest'.

Hi, I am Michele
I just turned 40 this year and I just am tired of gaining weight. I don't fit in my summer clothes from last Lear and I need to change. I want to be more fit so I can live a long productive life. My mom died at 53. I was only 20. I want to be here for my family longer than that and in order to that I need to change. I would like to lose 43 pounds by next summer. I need to measure out my portion sizes and exercise consistently. I need to be more active everyday. I need to drink more water. Here is to a new year and a new me! I hope by joining this group I will be more accountable and that it will help me succeed! Thank you

Hi Suzanne

Welcome to the team.

Hope you're feeling better and recovery is going well. Good news--you can exercise. No reason not to do some upper body workouts, maybe even some ab work if it doesn't hurt your ankle and the doctor is ok with it.

And you're right--you can eat healthier meals.

You can do this!

Hi Team! I'm Suzanne. I've been on SP for a while, but really need to get serious. I had ankle surgery in May so I've been in a cast and sitting around for several weeks getting more and more heavy and unfit. I'v been getting depressed about it and decided I can't really exercise much at the moment, but I can eat better and get inspired to get fit when my foot is better. I am 47andI have about 35 pounds to loose. My short term goal is to be able to fit into the clothes I outgrew recently. LOL! My long term goal is to feel confident and fit for a 10th anniversary trip to Hawaii next February with my hubby and 8 year old daughter. I am happy to meet everyone and look forward to encouraging eachother and supporting eachother.

Hi Sophie

Welcome to the team. I'm glad you like the challenge. I read through it and it has so much flexibility. Whether we're new to exercise or not, we can adapt this challenge to our comfort level.

I've been on SP for more years than I'd like to admit - hoping to be much more intentional and see results this time! I'm a mom of 3 so my workout opportunities are limited. I'm really liking the idea of the June challenge and just trying to set a goal to walk/jog 5 miles per week. Would love to lose 25 pounds but truthfully... it should probably be more like 35 total.. (I'm not tall) :-) Tracking my calories today!!

Hi Liz,

Welcome to the team. I'm sorry to hear about your husband but glad he's on the road to recovery.

My family has diabetes on both sides, so health is an issue for me and avoiding diabetes at all cost is really important.

Incorporating more fruits and vegetables, less white breads, pastas and sugars and opting for more grain versions has really helped me.

Since diabetes is in the family...another thought I've had and started doing occasionally is cooking meals from diabetic magazines or diabetic friendly recipes from the web. They're really good and bonus is they're healthy.

Best of luck!

If we did all the things we are capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves. 傍homas Edison

Hi I'm Liz, 45 I have 2 kiddos, ages 7 and 6. I have a husband who is type 1 Diabetic, and was in a coma for 2 months. Health is really a focus needless to say ;) I'm finding that I have my own issues I need to manage, I have 20 pounds to lose and it is really a battle. I did WW and My Fitness Pal prior to this, but needed help with healthy meal ideas (without paying for a plan) so joined SparkPeople. I use my jawbone UP. My week is generally 10K steps per day and 3 1 hour T-Tapp sessions. I work full time the rest is family and living. Taking it one day at a time, trying to stay in the moment and see the gifts and blessings in the day. Am focusing on the health benefits while I wait on the scale LOL, so...I like the way I look in clothes better than a year ago (I've dropped 130 pounds overall in 6 years), am off my blood pressure meds and have more energy that I did a year ago. Focusing on my eating, glad hubby is also trying, but am leaving him to do what he needs to do.

Hi Karen,

Welcome to the team!

My husband is awesome. He does try to keep me on track. But he also can eat whatever he wants and so that makes it hard. But lately, he's been really supportive and eats his fast food without me. For right now, that's helping me.

I decided that whether he's helping me stay on track or not--I have to do it for myself. It's not his job--it's mine!

Hello, I am Karen. I am 49 and need to lose 35 pounds for health reasons. I also will be feeling better about myself - to say the least! I am finishing up my second Masters degree this summer. The past 2 years I have put on the weight sitting so much as I studied for my classes. I am good with routine exercise (about 4-5 times per week), but my eating is out of control.

I have a loving husband, but he is a softy...he does not like any confrontation and admits he is not the person to keep my on track and be a strong, and confront me when I need it. So I am trying something new for support. I hope it helps :)

Hello!
I used to track here, but none of my friends/family used this site, so I tried others but didn't feel motivated. I've struggled with slow weight gain over the past few years, but recently had to be on Prednisone and gained rapidly and I tend to eat my emotions as well :-( Finally done with that hot mess and I need to lose some weight so I can feel good about myself again! I need help with motivation to stay on track - my workplace surrounds me with unhealthy treats and my family does not support healthy eating much.

I find inspiration through the suggested meals in the tracker here and some friendly online support I think would help greatly.

Thanks for listening!

~Wendelina

Hello,
I'm new to SparkPeople. I am 49 and want to be running consistently when I hit 50 next year. I want to lose 42 pounds by Christmas this year. I think I'm on the right track starting here! Next step, create one of those neat trackers people have on their posts.

Me too. I was on it a while, lost a couple pounds and stopped. I wasn't using all of the benefits, like having friends with similar goals & struggles, who could keep me encouraged. So, welcome back! 😃

I am new to the team. I was on Sparkpeople for a while, and left. It's been almost 2 years since I have been tracking. I'm back now. My daughter is getting married in October and I'd like to not gasp at the pictures of myself when we get them developed. Like I did, 4 1/2 years ago at my son's wedding. I've set more realistic goals and am going to be more diligent about using the community attributes to this fantastic program.

I am new to team but not new to SparkPeople. I am 48 and have gradually put on 1-2 pounds a year for over 10 years. I have not successfully lost more than 5 pounds on any weight loss attempt in recent past. I work out regularly at our local YMCA 4-5x/ wk and enjoy Insanity, P90x, kettlebells, walking/running, elliptical, lifting weights, HIIT, etc. I have a loving husband and I am the mother of 4 (20 y/o, 16y/o, 14y/o, and a recent addition to heaven 5/08/96 -12/24/14). Our kids are healthy, active, and always keep us busy. Any interruption to my exercise regimen and I quickly add on weight - ugh!! My goal is to lose 25 pounds!

Hi, I'm 47 and like many have been up and down with my weight for years. I've gained more weight in the last two years than I ever have and one month ago I decided I'd had enough. I didn't like the way my clothes fit and I especially didn't like how I felt about myself. Like another member has mentioned, I want to enter my 50's and be fit and fabulous. I have a teenage daughter that I want to be a good role model too as well. I think it is damaging for her to see her mother with such a bad self body image. I've tried to cover it for years, but she sees how unhappy I am with my body when I get dressed up for events. I lack confidence in this area and this isn't good. Even after only 25 days or so, I'm feeling much better and positive about what I can do and the future.

Hello All,
I am not new to spark people, but it has been about 7 or 8 years since I participated. Joining again seemed like the perfect Mother's Day present to myself.
I have been a bit lost and unable to find motivation, so this is my first step and prep work begins tomorrow.
Looking forward to sharing this journey with others!

I refuse to kill or zap my butterfly(thyroid gland) I am also pre hypertension and sugar... Hi Melissa,

Welcome to the team!

Sounds like you have your hands full (but in a good way).

I also work from home and understand the struggle completely. One trick for me, don't bring junk in the house. I've also heard that people put snack foods for kids in another cabinet or a drawer and then they just never go in that place. I think that would work too.

Hi all. I've been on and off SP for years, and have been exploring the groups. Recently I joined the 30 somethings with 50 to 99 pounds to lose, but...
Well, I'm rapidly approaching 40 (less than a month) and I now have less than 50 pounds I'd like to lose (YAY!).
Personally, I'm a mom to a 3 girls who are 19, 16 and 2 years old. We are starting over with parenthood with our "bonus baby" and she's such a blessing. I work full time from home, and sometimes struggle with the challenges that poses - always multitasking, always close to the kitchen, etc... I don't know that I'm "looking forward" to turning 40, but, it is inevitable, so I'm going to embrace it and keep moving!

Hello all! I am new to this group but not so new to Sparkpeople. I joined a few years ago and this place truly helped and inspired me! I fell out of touch and off track...so, I am baaaaack! :) Looking to keep the spark and hoping to find some friends here that I can motivate myself. Feel free to add me. Have a great week everyone!

I'm positive I can do this
I'm positive I'm making progress
I'm positive because I'm sure of myself
I'm positive because I have a goal!
I'm positive because I know where I am going
I'm positive I'll get there.

Hello all! I'm Malinda and I'm one of those who have battled the bulge my entire life. I know I need to make it a lifestyle change, but I have such a hard time giving up tacos and French fries! Got a FitBit last month and joined SP about 3 days later. Between the 2 I'm feeling motivated and hopeful again. Trying to take baby steps this time instead of going all out. However, I feel I'm getting to the point where I need to bolster up my support team, so here I am! Looking forward to getting to know some new folks!
