Hello,
I'm 45, relocated from Orlando to Alexandria VA 6 months ago. I'm taking a hiatus from working so there are no excuses. I'm in the planning, prepping stage hoping to set myself up for success starting Jan 5, 2015. I would like to do a triathlon this year, wear a pair of shorts in public, and most of all commit to fitness.

OK, I am returning after about a year off. Lost the first 25 lb about a year and a half ago but stalled for a very long time so i gave up to try something new. Now the weight is starting to creep back up again. I love hiking and backpacking but this summer when I went out on a few steep climbs(once going up a waterfall trail and once just going up a hill), I felt like I would never get to the top and had to stop several times. My husband even had to take some of my gear which for me is a big problem because then I don't feel like I am carrying my fair share of the burden.
So here I go back to the program that worked for at least awhile. Hopefully i will be able to find ways to bust through the inevitable plateaus.

Hi, I'm Kim and I'm thrilled to be 35lbs to goal! When I began I needed to lose 65lbs. I began taking Belviq Nov 3, 2014 and have had wonderful results with it. I hadn't been able to get out of the 170's for about 3 years; Fluctuating between 180's to the 170's. As of yesterday's weigh-in I am at 163.6, and this happened in less than a month. I just turned 45 in August (14) and am dating again for the first time in 6 years. I am also a graduate student, earning my masters degree: MSC/MFCT (master of science in counseling/marriage, family, child therapy), which means that I help people in thier relationships. I'm very excited to be out of the obese BMI range for the first time in years, and am now at the overweight range! Only people such as us would understand the joy at just being overweight :)

I look forward to meeting you all and hope we can become friends and have a very solid group with challenges and maybe mini-competetions.

Hi! Im Sarah.
I'm returning to this group, so thought I'd introduce myself again.
I'm starting my fitness and health year a month early so I don't pack on more during the holidays! Started with my first race (4 miler) on Thanksgiving, even though I'm not a runner and am 50 pounds overweight! My daughter challenged me and I made her ( and myself) proud, so that feeling will propel me through the start of the year. Looking forward to running again next Thanksgiving and seeing the difference!
My weight gain has been steady for the last three years, and I've tried many programs but just give up when I see no results. This time I'm going simple...track food and exercise and go for health without obsessing with the scale.

Hi team, my name is Vicky. I'm totally new to SparkPeople website, so I might not have done the right thing in replying to DeeAnn's post... But I'm sure I will get the hang of it soon.

I'm was born in The Netherlands, but live now on this beautiful island in the Meds. I'm almost 48 and find myself back to where I was 2 years ago! All my life I have struggled with my weight. But more so I have struggled with my health. Though I have always been active and was a regular gym-goer, I never seemed to be able to have a steady weight, so I figured there MUST be something wrong with my diet.7 years ago, after trying almost every fad diet that was in fashion, I found Clean Eating, which has turned my life around. I reached my target weight in 6 months, and I built lean muscles in the next 12 months and was extremely proud and happy with myself.

However, living on this island in the Meds, makes it difficult to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Food and wine is considered to be the backbone of a fulfilled life, and everybody lives to enjoy it as much as they can. The first question people ask you when they meet you is "what did you have to eat, and where did you enjoy it?" Though the Mediterranean cuisine is known for being one of the most healthiest diets, we usually eat out with friends and family, accompanied by loads of wine. And therein lays the problem. People over here are highly offended if you decline an invitation to go for dinner!

Moreover, this island is a holiday resort for the Northern part of Europe. This means 90% off ALL businesses are only open during the season. From April through October this island is a bustling holiday resort, but from November through March this island is deserted. This also means we have to work day and night all through the season, as there are NO jobs available in the off season. We have to make our money in 7 months to be able to live 12 months. In the holiday season I work on average 100 hours a week! That means for me: NO time to plan my meals, NO time to prep my meals, NO time to go to the gym or do any form of exercise, as I work 7 days a week, 14 hours a day for 7 months straight with no time off whatsoever! I have to rely on takeaways from our local restaurants and fast on the go healthy snacks from the supermarket. As you can imagine, in the holiday season I gain weight, which I fight very hard to get it off again in my off season.

Well in the past two years I went through some very rough times, and I was not motivated at all to work so hard in my off season to lose my gained weight. I just couldn't bring myself to get off the couch and exercise, or even make healthy meals. Besides being really tired and drained of energy after the long work season, I found myself in a depression. I couldn't even be bothered to get dressed or clean my apartment. All I did was stay on the couch, or on our balcony in the sun, and eat. So when this year's working season in April 2014 started, not only didn't I lose the gained weight from the year before, I gained even more!

Now I'm at the beginning of my off season again. I'm tired of being tired. I'm tired of buying new bigger clothes again. Three years ago I threw all the bigger size clothes out and swore to myself I would NEVER be big again! Well here I am again. I need to get back on track, both food wise and exercise wise. I had my three weeks of winding down after a busy work season. I had my three weeks of sleeping 16 hours a day to catch up. Now it's time to get back into action. But it's so hard to start again! I hope with this group I'll be inspired to get back on track and keep going until I'm back where I was two years ago: a happy, healthy slim version of me.

Hello this is DeeAnn here! I used to be super skinny in high school and even several years after that. Then after my third child the weight just kept coming on and I didn't know what to do about it as I had never had to worry about it. Years and years went by and I ended up weighing 187.4 pounds when I decided to do something about it. I am small framed and 5'6" and really didn't think I was as heavy as I was until I lost 54 pounds and went from a size 16/18 to 4/5. I felt amazing and was so proud of myself and swore I was never going back there again. Once I met my goal I decided to take a month off as a reward. BIG MISTAKE!!! The month has pretty much turned into 2 years and I am back up 35 pounds :( I still ran here and there but I didn't exercise consistently anymore. Then this summer my goal was to get back into it and run my first 1/2 Marathon. But.... I ended up with issues with my calves and am working with the doctor to get that fixed and am hoping to start running right after Christmas (doctors orders to not start until then) with an overall goal to run the Ragnar Snowmass Colorado Trail in June of 2015!!!

If it doesn't challenge you, it doesn't change you!

Hi! My name is Tina. I am 41 and live in Wisconsin. Until 2009, I was a VERY busy professional, working 65 hours per week. I was in a bad car accident in 2007 that left me with a permanent left wrist and hand disability that limits my strength and range of motion in addition to causing me a lot of pain. I was forced to retire 2 years later and went through a period of depression that began my weight gain as I struggled to redefine who I was with the loss of my lifetime career in law enforcement. I am limited somewhat in what I can do physically because of my restrictions with my left arm, but can do cardio and lower body strength training - and obviously I should be able to control what I put in my body (one would think, right?). Anyway - I hope I can find some support on this site. I need to lose the 40 pounds I have gained since having to retire. I am tired of being tired, hating how I look, and just feeling overwhelmingly miserable. This shouldn't be this hard! emoticon

**IN RESPONSE TO GA BABS**I like what you said about "baby steps"....I need to remember that. I tend to hit the ground running....sprinting even - for about 3 weeks then burn out and end up back where I started. That's what happened this time. Sprinted through September - did great! Then did nothing until last Sunday when I went to the gym. Did nothing last week - went to the gym today. Been eating like crap this whole time too. *sigh* - I NEED this. Best of luck to you - baby steps for us both.

Hi,
My name is Cindy and I'm 44. I started really trying to focus on myself about a month ago. I had really let myself go and become mindless about what I ate and about being overweight.
I added another 15lbs last year during a particularly rough time with my daughter.

Well I have awaken from the slumber and am really trying to make positive change in my life. I'm exercising and logging everything I eat. Trying to eat extremely healthy and my results have been great, I'm down 12lbs and super proud of myself for taking control back.

Looking for support, I have been faithfully logging food for 3 weeks today and exercising 5 days a week. I'm feeling proud of myself.

Hi, my name is Cheri, I'm 46 and I'm a cyclical SP user. I had been doing great, eating well, running at least three times a week - made it to 3 miles a pop - and feeling good about where my health and weight were heading. Then I hurt my lower back and couldn't do much of anything.

I'm all better now but possibly in the worst shape of my life and hitting record high weights. Mostly I'm feeling overwhelmed in pretty much all areas of my life but I think a lot of it is due to poor self-image and just being tired most of the time.

I'm back at SP trying to find some motivation and some reminders that I've got to stop beating myself up and take small actions. Some days are better than others but, mostly, I'm feeling bad almost all the time.

I'm normally not so whiney but today is one of those bad days.

My mantra for today, I think, will be "baby steps" and then take a few.

Good to be a part of this group. You all seem like a good, supportive bunch.

Sabrina, I totally get where you are at. I am there too, except I don't have a gym membership. I was doing really well, getting out and walking, doing pushups for strength training, and was down almost 25 lbs. Then DS started having problems at school, and my divorce is dragging on and taking forever, and, and, and......

Those excuses are so easy to make. I tend to get overwhelmed by too much information, so I try and establish one habit at a time. Since I easily get over 10,000 steps a day at my job, I am working on consistently doing my pushups 3 times a week. Did them last Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and this Saturday. So, just need to keep that up. 13 yr old DS said he wanted a Y membership so he can go lift weights with other kids from his school. I think having a Y membership would be good for me too.

So, climb back on the wagon and start making small changes.

Hi! My Name is Sabrina , Im 42 years old and live in South Florida . I'm married and am a mom to two young (19,20) men. I need to lose about 40 pounds. :(. I've done 2 Disney Half Marathons (2011 & 2014)and a10K Disney race (2012). When I do the running or wogging (walking/jogging) the weight seems to come off. The problem is I can't seem to get motivated and the weight just keeps piling on. I really have no excuse not to lose the weight except that I don't want to. I'm at the point where nothing fits, I'm frustrated at what I see in the mirror and parts of my body ache like never before. I'm assuming because of the extra weight. I DO have a gym membership that I've used four times in the last 4 months. So basically, I'm just throwing my money away.

Anyways, I decided to come back here and try again. Thes a lot of information and support from the staff as well as other members. So... Let's get motivated and lose this weight! 👍

Hi everyone :) My name is Tricia and I'm 45. I am married with two young boys. I would like to lose 30 to 45 lbs. I have been a stay at home mom for a year and a half. Before that I've worked since I was 18. I have a gym membership to a great club but I don't go :( I'm shy about going to the gym. And I always make housework and appointments/errands a priority. When I was working I always thought how great it would be to send the kids off to school then go work out. Am I doing it now? No :( I do want to start going and I will really try. I also would like a treadmill at home! I have Osteoarthritis so that kind of hinders some movements but I never let that stop me doing my thing every day (up and down the stairs all day long). I just work through the pain. With dieting I've started to try new healthier recipes and reducing my sugar/carbs. This will take time to make it a lifestyle change :) but I'm working on it and I only see it getting better. I enjoy eating healthy meals because they are more fulfilling. I used to just think about eating better and getting more exercize now I'm actually taking baby steps. I also have the SparkPeople Activity Tracker that's fun and it helps :) Thanks for reading

Hi! I'm Mary and just joined yesterday. I'm 46 and would love to lose about 30 pounds. I'm married with three busy sons but have decided that I need to make time for this. Still figuring my way around here - there is so much information! My first goal is to track all of my food everyday and try to keep my nutrients a bit more balanced. Exercise is the big one - I have been having some problems with my knee and am scheduled for an MRI next week. Would love to walk but it's too painful at the present time, so I'm trying to find some other exercises that I can do at home for now.
Looking forward to checking in and getting to know my way around!

I am Vickie, I would like to lose 35 pounds. I was active with Sparkpeople a couple years ago and it helped me. I've been at the same weight and have not gained, but I do need to lose weight. I am 46, live in Alaska, with my husband and 2 teenage daughters. I need to eat better and get more exercise in. My main exercise is a once weekly dance class/dance team.

Hi! I'm a 40 year old wife and mother of three boys. I am a former active US Marine and I hold a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do. Am am no longer doing martial arts at this time.

I have been schooling my boys and sitting in front of a computer for the last year and I have gained way too much weight! I am starting to have aches and pains and I'm betting it would all lessen if I just lost that extra weight. So here I am again.

This past 2.5 weeks I have taken five to six classes at the gym each week. I also run the Couch to 5K program with my boys 4 times a week. Because they do online public school and we make our own schedule (more or less!) they are able to run with me in the mornings. =)

So far since October 19th I have lost 13lbs, and I know I will probably plateau soon, but I'm still thrilled! I did a major lifestyle change, and am holding strong. I'm determined to get where I want to be!

-Amy

Hi! I have been battling this weight thing for years! I have finally revamped my life to cooking fresh meats and vegetables, but my allergies are off the charts, and I have gained 10 pds taking Benedryl! This stresses me, and I am here to learn how to cope with the stress instead of eating!

I am currently trying to learn how to control my allergies naturally, so I will not continue to gain weight because of my medicine! (My goal is to be medicine free) I have stopped and started this journey to being a better keeper of my temple so many times, but this time it is going to be different because my mindset is on the future in Yahushua (Jesus) and not the past! I need to lose 50 pounds and I look forward to doing it with you!

Without a struggle, there can be no progress!

Hello everyone. I'm new to Spark. Just joined last night. CW is 227 and my goal weight is 190. At my heaviest I was 240. Would love to have some friends for support, motivation, kick me in the ass when needed. I'm an Army Reservist and full time Dept of the Army civilian during the week. I'm a simple guy that likes to laugh and have fun. I need to drop the weight. Tired of looking in the mirror and being angry about what I see.

My name is Kellianne. I travel for a living so my "support network" is spread out all over the country. That does not help when I am living on an isolated island in Hawaii right now. I have withdrawn into myself and hunkered down emotionally which is why I am reaching out now with this program. I look forward to connecting with people that are dealing with the same issues I am: namely, motivation, support and accountablity. LET'S DO THIS TOGETHER!

Hello. I am a 43 yr old mom of 3 adult children. I joined SP about a month ago, but am just now getting serious about beginning to take control of my health. I've been very overwhelmed with all the info out there and just have no idea where to begin. I don't really have much support at home so looking elsewhere. They say they are for all in, but it's all just talk in my mind. I know I am not alone in this endeavor, but since I don't really know anyone in my area, it sure feels like I'm alone. Anyway, my goals are to lose 30 pounds and to prevent myself from becoming diabetic. There are a lot of diabetics on both side of my family and I don't want that for myself. I love meeting new people so feel free to chat with me. Have a wonderful day! emoticon

Hi everyone, my name is Nan. I am in my late 40's and want to lose 25 to 30 lbs. I joined Sparkpeople last week from the phone app and now I see that I can also use the website! It is much easier to enter my food log into my computer than my phone, but it's nice to have the app for on-the-go. I am just starting out and trying to change my eating habits. I am not doing any exercise yet, but I hope to build up to walking 3 times per week. Looking forward to getting and giving support!

Hey there. IDK if i ever introduced myself on here. I've been away from SP for... I don't even know. A long time.
I have watched my weight creep up over the past few years. I am officially at my highest high.
:(
I really need people who I can chat with and relate to who don't judge me.
I'm a yoga, hoop and belly dance teacher. My life goal is to motivate people (especially women) to live the life they want now at this size, in this body.
But that doesn't mean that I don't want to get my health in order before it's too late!
I'm interested in making some new and active SP friends.
Namaste :)

Hi Everyone,
I'm Jen and I'm the mother of an awesome 10 year old. We currently have 2 dogs, though at times we've had as many as 6. I walk and board dogs for a living and last year I decided to go back to university online. It had been 26 years since I was in university so it was a bit of a learning curve.
Last year I broke my shoulder and just as it was healing, though not enough to go back to serious dog walking, Toronto got hit with an ice storm. I'd already started gaining weight then, was baking up a storm for Christmas which ended up being a holiday with no power for five days. Between not walking because of my shoulder, unable to walk because everything was a sheet of ice, a house full of baked goods that never got delivered, and starting school which took about 6 hours a day I really started to gain. I was so depressed that winter and the weight just added to it and I couldn't seem to stop eating. I gained 50 lbs in about 5 months.
I started walking lots this summer and eating healthy, juicing, lentils, raw veggies you name it and I gained another 5 lbs before I leveled out and stayed at 180. I started thinking maybe it was a medical problem. Then I read an article by Jillian Michaels and realized that even though I was walking 12 km a day I might not be losing, but I wasn't gaining anymore so it had to be what I was eating. I also read that if you do the same exercise all the time your body becomes more efficient at it and all I had done was added more walking.
Enter SparkPeople and for 12 days I've been religiously tracking calories, added weights, exercise videos, my elliptical (oh yeah, I have a gym in my house, truly no excuse for no exercise because of the ice and snow), and even a yoga video. I've lost 8 lbs in 12 days and realize that the portions and amounts of food I was eating before were insane. I'd eat salad, but it was the size you'd make to feed a family of 6.
I've always yoyo'd and dieted since I was a teen and my closet has clothes from size 6 to 16. (I sadly broke into a box of maternity clothes one day desperate for something that fit). I am beyond excited that I feel I can do this now, my energy is through the roof compared to what it was, I now use exercise to procrastinate doing my school work but get such a boost from the exercise I can focus when I study. I don't even need to buy new clothes as I lose weight as I will be able to wear my favourite clothes again as I move back down the sizes.
Can you tell I'm happy to be here?? To top it off my stress levels that added to my eating are lower.
Hope I haven't written too much or sounded too happy, it has been a struggle to not snack or munch at night but so far so good I've opted for healthy options if I'm really hungry.
So glad to be here,
Jen 😊

Hello, I am 41 yo mum of three boys (9, 11 and 13) and a live in a small town in rural Australia. I lost the baby weight after each pregnancy pretty well but a few years ago as I neared forty and started a stressful mostly sitting-down-all-day job I started eating terribly and stopped exercising.I also developed a little addiction to full strength coke (the drink) and sleeping tablets and was on a slippery slope to ill health. Result - I gained about 14 kilos in 18 months and felt terrible. I finally got my head in the right space last week and have started eating well, exercising and tracking my food. I have quit the caffeine and the sleeping tablets. Already feeling better with more energy and sleeping better and I have dropped a couple of kilos.

My goals are to keep away from the white sugar, eat lots of fruit and veggies and get some walking in every day. I'd like to lose those 15 kilos asap however I know they took 18 months to go on so it will probably take at least 6 months to come off. As long as I keep moving in the right direction I'll try to stay patient (not one of my strengths).

My immediate challenge will be returning to work next week after a two week break. I am planning on being well prepared so I can take my own healthy lunch and snacks and stop buying the yummy take away food that had become my regular lunch.

Looking forward to getting to know you all better as we work towards our goals.

I'm 43 and I want to lose about 30 lbs. I keep losing the same 15 lbs over and over again. It is so hard to drop weight at this age. I have to really exercise like crazy to lose weight at all. It's really starting to bother me.

Hi I am sherry I am back after almost 4 years being away. Long story short, I almost died and other set backs which is on my sight in more detail of what happened and why I am back.

I am back partly because for the first time in my life I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, along with that high cholesterol and the two together was a red flag for me to get going and do something about it, and this time to make it an every day part of my life to work out and eat right.

I am at an all time high of 181 pounds and have lost 4 pounds since starting on my program three weeks back.

This is such a wonderful place and it is so wonderful that it is free. All the support, recipes, advice, and more is just what I need to help keep me going.

look forward to getting to know some of you as we travel down this path together.

I am 47 and thinking about how I want to look and feel like as I go into my 50's and beyond. I want to spend my golden years in shape and in good health with my husband enjoying life and traveling, and that will not happen if I keep going the way I have been. emoticon

I took two weeks of holidays recently to work on me. To create a plan for working out and eating and to implement it, along with having some mini spa days, so when I started I was really ready to go and to tackle any obstacles that may come my way. emoticon emoticon

I am in control of who I am,
What I want to look like,
what I put into my mouth and mind,
today and every day
I choose only the best,
That will surely,
lead me to success.
sherry

Hello everyone! I'm returning to Spark after completely undoing what I did before and adding even more pounds. I did so well last time because of the forums and having daily support from my spark "friends" who were going through many of the same issues. So I'm here and going to try to do the same thing. My name refers to the fact that I work in a cubicle which I call my cubby because it's super small. I don't get much movement during the day unless it's my fingers typing. I also work at a college and good grief I think the fat is in the walls sometimes. We all gain weight while working here. But I'm looking to change all that. So emoticon everyone and I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I'm returning to SparkPeople today after quite a while away. I'm a chronic yo-yoer, but I'm feeling refreshed and determined to change my eating habits. I'm 45 and I have about 40 pounds to lose. I'm a writer and I live with a good man and two fine pugs. I've been working out with Daily Burn for about a month and a half. I've gained weight during that time, so tracking nutrition feels really important. I also love yoga and try to go to a class once a week.

Hello All, I just reconnected with Spark after regaining about 25lbs. I lost 98lbs about 6 years ago and kept it off until just recently. I'm not sure why the weight gain has occurred. I continue to workout and spin a couple times a week. I don't think my eating habits have changed that dramatically. So I'm back to tracking my food in order to figure this out. Any motivation or hints welcome. I an determined to lose this weight once again. emoticon emoticon

Welcome, Deborah! Many of us have tried many times to lose weight and keep it off. Although this is my first time round with SP, I have been here about a year and a half, with about a 6 month period of not being active on the site. I have a very active job, but I also know that I need to do activity over and above my job levels. Eating is my nemisis. If it is food, I pretty much like it, unless it is a vegetable - those, not so much.

Whenever I have tried to lose weight, I try to do everything all at once, and burn out quickly. I am trying to take baby steps this time, and make small, incremental changes. I have had some success, but recently graduated from school as a Physical Therapist Assistant, got a job as a PTA, moved to another state, in the process of getting divorced and have custody of my 13 yr old DS. My 22 yr old DD and 19 yr old DS are in the process of moving 3 states away - along with DS's girlfriend and their 2 yr old daughter (my granddaughter.)

So, hang in there - lots of good information and advice here - take what works for you, and approach life one day at a time. Make the healthiest decisions you can at the time you are making them.

This is my 3rd (or 4th) round with Sparkpeople. It really helps me get my eating under control, because I log it here and it shows me everything. I got away from it, and ballooned up to more than I weighed pregnant. So, back down we go, and hopefully stay there. I've joined a gym and work out 5 days a week, 3 in a class and 2 with a personal trainer. Now I have to get my eating under control again so the pounds can start melting away!!!
I am a mother of two, and I also have a husband, a career and a dog. That means busy busy all the time. I will be learning to plan my meals better over the next few weeks too.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it!

Be the girl you were too lazy to be yesterday!

I am new here. I used to be an athlete, but injuries, 4 kids, and life got in the way. Now I'm trying to reclaim my life. Looking forward to the mutual support. With 42 pounds to lose, it feels like I've got a long way to go.

I hear you girl! I'm 47, up to 215. It's tough because my husband loves my body as is, and I fight our cultures costant bombardment of 'get thin' messages... but I would really love to get back into my jeans, and back below 200 to take some pressure off my knees. I live in yoga pants because I refuse to buy jeans over size 16. So... joined here yesterday, and I am making the effort to eat smaller portions and walk further each day. Cheers to you!

Consider me inspired! Way to go!!! I've let myself slid this summer... it's so easy to do, and the older we get, the harder it is to get back on track... I keep trying though!

Hi! My name is Heather. I am 41. New here but not new to Spark. Been on my weight loss journey since 2008. Have kind of fallen off the wagon so back to get my butt in gear. Last time I was here I was still in my 30s but now into my early 40s. Hope to get my motivation back and be an inspiration to others as well.

Heather

Hello everyone. I am 45 years old and recently became a grandmother for the first time. I'm trying this again because my current weight is 213 pounds and I'm just tired and frustrated with feeling exhausted and unhealthy all the time. I'm also tired of buying clothes that make me feel old and frumpy. I just purchased a treadmill and plan to use it for at least 30 minutes every day. I'm looking for some moral support and to be accountable to someone other than myself. Good luck everyone and let's all keep up the fight. emoticon

Hello all, just turned 40 in April and I've noticed that lately that it's ALOT harder to lose it now than it was even just a few short years ago. I swear I've lost the same 30 pounds at least 10 times! I'm a mom to an amazing boy and my husband and I just celebrated our 19th anniversary. I'm really hoping to meet some great members with similar goals, make some new friends and most importantly develop some healthy habits to last a life time. emoticon
