Hi!

I'm Cathrine - I'm 47 and I have a great husband and 3 daughters - 11, 11 and 14 years old.

Over the last 6 months I've lost the same 10 pounds 4 times (!!). So I need to try something different and I'm hoping all the tracking and goal setting will help me. My main motivation is to have more energy and confidence.

Cathrine

My name is Stephanie and I am 44 years old. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 13 years and have a 9 year old son and a 7 year old girl. I have slowly been putting on weight over the past few years and now I am at the point where I am determined to do something about it! I would love to lose 25 pounds and get back to the weight I was when I got married. I have been trying to do this on my own, but have not been successful. I am confident that by joining this group, I will be motivated and will keep myself accountable!

My name is Leisa and I'm 48. Married 15 years with two girls 11 1/2 and 14. I didn't start gaining weight until after my kids were born and once I turned 40 all the fun began! Over the course of the last eight years my weight has been up and down and at the moment I'm down 11 lbs from highest point and am working towards another 49 to get me to 150. I am 5'7 and when I got down to that weight 3 years ago I felt great. It's not the number I'm chasing specifically, it's how I felt. I put it out there that I'd run a Family 5k in December. I have a lot of work to do. Oh, and running has NEVER been something I'd willingly do unless I was being chased! Looking forward to a fit & fabulous 50!!

Welcome Melissa. One thing that I found that happened for me was that if I tried to do "everything" at once, I would burn out quickly and just quit. Try to make changes slowly, and as each change becomes habit, then work on another change. I will admit, I am still working on this concept. I pretty much have the activity down, but the eating part I struggle with daily. Right now, I am working on getting in my 8 glasses of water each day. Not going as well as I would like, but I start each day fresh and try again.

Hi, My name is Melissa and I am 40 years old. I am the mother of 3, ages 21, 20 and 10 and grandma to a 1 year old. I was thrown into menopause back in 2008 due to a complete hysterectomy and have had trouble ever since keeping weight off. I can not take hormones due to underlying issues, so losing is difficult. I have been a member of Sparks for a couple of years now only lasting a week or two. This time I have been active since May and am determined to get the weight off. No more crash diets or anything else that doesn't really work. I am exercising daily and changing my diet to smaller portions watching calories and carbs. I have lost 11 lbs. with a lot more to go!

Mel

Hello Fellow 40 Somethings! My name is Shauna. I am 45 years old and the Mom of a two, 20 & 17. I had gastric bypass back in 1986 at the age of 17. Lost 100 lbs in 6 months. Put about 15 back on and maintained a healthy 155 lbs (Im 5'7) pretty effortlessly for many years and two pregnancies. Two years ago at 43, I went into full menopause literally overnight. And between the ages of 41-42, I gained almost 40 lbs doing nothing differently than I have since having GB. So I am chalking it up to menopause. Either way, I am here to lose this weight, get healthy, make friends and find support. :)

Hello everyone! My name is Laura and I just joined Spark yesterday. So much to see and do here, just a touch overwhelming but no worries... I got this. Single Mom with a beautiful 18 year old daughter. Have lost about 75-80 lbs in the past year (depending on the water retention). Lost 30 thru diet and took phentermine for a few months. The additional 50 came off due to medical stuff. Had knee and leg surgery and pain is a great appetite suppressant. Now that I am better, the FATGIRL appetite has come back with a vengeance especially near bedtime (Sweet, Salty, Sweet, Salty....) So came to Spark looking for information and motivation. Just started working out about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Figured since I had to do physical therapy 2-3 times a week for my leg, might as well add some other full body stuff. Thanks for listening and letting me join your group.

Hi Everyone,

I am another member that is new to this group but returning to Spark. I am the proud (but EXHAUSTED) Mommy of a 3 year old girl and soon to be 2 year old boy. I was sick during both pregnancies so actually LOST weight and felt better than ever. However, late nights, lack of sleep, stress and being able to eat again led to all but 10lbs of that weight coming back on. My goal is to eat healthier, move more, and lose 30lbs. I am happier than I have ever been but now want to feel confident in my own skin and have the energy to keep up with my kids and giving them the mom they deserve. I look forward to meeting you all.

:) Heather

Hello everyone. I am a 42 year old single mother of 6 with 2 left at home (ages 16 and 3). I had a lot of medical issues with my baby girl back in 2010-2011. Having to deal with a blood clot the entire length of my left leg during pregnancy was hard. I could barely get around but was told to move and rest move and rest move and rest throughout the day. I am trying to lose as much of the weight I gained from the pregnancy. my goal is 150 to 160 in the end, But i set my first goal to lose 50 (I weigh 244). I have not gained any or lost any since her birth in 2011. Just steady I guess. Exercise is difficult for me at the moment due to my knee problems so any exercises you can recommend would be helpful. I need a lot of motivation and support. I want to enjoy the time I have with my little girl. I am new to the site and am not a computer wiz. Wish me luck.

Hey all,
I am 43 and a mother of three (four if you count the husband), I am new to the team but not to SP. I have been a member for quite some time and recently have been doing very well. I wanted to find a couple more groups that seem to be a little more active and motivational. Looks like there is quite a bit of activity here. I don't check into the teams every day but I try to at least a couple of times a week to see how everyone is doing and share my progress. I look forward to see you all around here.

My name is Yvonne. Divorced and mother of 3. My oldest will be 25 in July. My middle is 23 and both just got engaged. Youngest is 15. I had a lapband back in 2008. Lost 70lbs. Now I fluctuate up and down in the 190's. I want to loose 40 to 50 lbs more. My goal is to reach between 145 and 155. I have 2 weddings to plan. According to the calculations, I can do this by November. I need willpower, encouragement and no sabotage. I need to keep motivated and moving. So lets all cheer each other on!

Welcome everyone! I too struggle with motivation. It seems to come and go. Right now I am having a rough patch at work, but walking helps me clear my head, so the activity side is going well, but the eating part, not so much.

Hi, I am 44 and signed up a while back but didn't follow through and still have all this weight to lose. I have 4 teenagers and the oldest will graduate from High School next May. Needles to say I do want to look my best:) and feel good! staying motivated is my biggest problem, the weight will come of I know if I just slug it out to the bitter end and not eat when I'm stressed or bored. So here we go!!!

Hi, I am new to this group. My name is Nickie. I am a binge eater. I can eat really well all day and track. I am pretty active. but once the evening comes, I can't control myself.
I want to lose 40 pounds. 50 would be better. but 40 seems a litle more doable.
I lost 80 pounds about 5 years ago on Spark and now I am back up again. I know what I did last time..and not stuffing my face in the evening was a huge part of it. I don't know how I stopped during that time. but I sure wish I could get there again.
I am working on it!

Hello. I am not sure this will work. I am trying to introduce myself to the team. I am 43 and have been eating way too much. Sometimes I have eaten for comfort, and other times just for entertainment. I have realized that I have at least 30 pounds that I want to lose. I am trying to be an example for my children who have unfortunately picked up some unhealthy habits as well. Hopefully, this is the year that we will all get a little healthier:)
I enjoy cooking, hiking, swimming, and biking and would love to move to a town by the beach someday!
I look forward to connecting with you all as we embrace the journey! emoticon

Hi, I am 45 and have been a spark member for a couple of years. I was three pounds above my goal weight when my Dad died, daughter had spinal surgery, and Mom had to move to assisted living.

I am currently working on living a healthier life. Just difficult to measure that. So, am trying to accomplish that by losing 1 pound a week. Have started allergy shots so it's easier to be outside. I also have insomnia, so am working on ways to increase sleep time. Hopefully, all of the above will help.

I love to go on long walks with my dog, garden and take pictures.

Hi All - I'm a 47 year old mother of three (13,12 and 10). I have been a member here at SP for some years already, but never had the commitment to succeed. Today is a new day, and after a long hiatus from SP, I am ready to do it right. I have noticed that many of my Spark Friends are no longer active here, and I'm hoping to find some new inspirational buddies, so please, look me up, and I'll be happy to encourage and support in any way I can! emoticon emoticon

Hi Gang,

My name is Cheryl. I'm 48, I'm a mortician and I have lost about about 10 pounds since last August. However, I am pretty much stuck in the mid 150s and have been for about 4 months. Ack! Looking for people with similar issues to help me get over the hump!

Hi everyone,
Returning sparkmember here.
I fell off the healthy habits wagon a long time ago and have tried to climb back on several times but always kept one foot dragging so haven't seen any success like when I was first here.

I'm interested in learning to enjoy eating healthy and not enjoying so much junk foods. I also want to get back into fitness which I have completely fallen away from.

When I was first here (probably about 4 years now) I found the love of running. I don't run anymore and am looking for a new love in the fitness realm.

I'm 47 and between my husband and I we have 10 children. All are grown except the youngest who is 8 years old. Our oldest daughter lives with us with her daughter. Our grand daughter is now 6 years old so a great companion for her 8 year old uncle.

up and moving

Hi! I am new to this team, and a returning SP member. It's been a long time since I've been on here...but now I am back and recommitted to do my best in getting my weight back to my target weight! In June 2010 I was 265 and got to 138. It felt great! I am 4 years out, and am a whopping 185.8 lbs. (was 191 last week, but started taking back my life now Im on week 2). I am wanting to get back down to at least 145 but its going to be a rough road.

Hi! I don't think I remembered to post on this team yet!

My name is Julie, I'm 44 years old, with three kids ages 16, 14 and 7. Yesterday I was grocery shopping because one daughter was having a sleepover party to celebrate the end of school. On her list for me to get them was ice cream, pizzas, M&M's, S'mores ingredients and chips!! Last night I caved in to a little of the ice cream. This morning, I put on a workout video on Wii and did it for 45 minutes. After this, I don't have any appetite for those snacks at all! I hope it lasts all day!

Hi Everyone! My name is Karen and I am 46 years old and have about 30 pounds to lose. I have been married for 22 years and have a 17 year old son. My life these last few years has been caring for my aging parents, working full time, being a Mom and Wife and totally avoiding even thinking about my weight. After my mother's recent death I was looking thru pictures and honestly it was like I didn't exist because I have hid from photos for 20 years because of my insecurities. I need to feel good about myself for the first time in my life and I am ready to make that change. Good Luck everyone!

I have come and gone tbh (as have many) but within the last 2 years have managed to really ramp up things and get myself in order. Former Graves' Disease, now under control, working on daily workout 'sessions' that they've become a priority to my day; eating less and healthier choices (I don't diet, I just eat better!) and hoping to continue. I still have a way to go, but am happy with my progress (and unhappy that I can't wear clothes I just got a few months ago! lol) I've read a lot of the 'new team member' posts - posted here and various other posts/topics. As I'm 44 and striving along a similar journey, here's to all of us - hoping and wishing for a healthier and happier 'me and you'!

If I think I can, then I probably can. Ten minutes of my self arguments to exercise could have been a nice ten minute walk around the block!

Hi everyone, My name is Karen and I have explored SP for the last week now and learning lots of great information. Wasn't sure how to join this team, let alone respond. So I hope this works.
I am 47, been married for 17 years and a mother of 3 daughters with only one left at home. I'm not home a lot so I wanted to join something that would help my hubby and I stay on track and away from fast food. So far this has helped greatly and I have my hubby trying to grill and cook on the road instead of fast food. And believe it or not he's actually eating healthy foods too.. So I'm pretty stoked about this program and I have been using "walking the dogs" to give us both exercise. As you probably guessed, anything healthy is like putting a vampire in the sun...LOL!! But I have my ways of sneaking things in... I'm looking forward to this team and doing all we can do to support each other...Have a wonderful and blessed day!!

Welcome everyone!!! emoticon

You're all doing great! Remember to track for the first few days or even weeks if you needed be to find out where you're off with your nutritional values. Carbs is almost always the culprit and making sure you're taking in enough protein instead of fat or carbs. Once you've established balancing your meals, then it becomes fun to create new or old recipes into making healthier versions. This is a start to making your new healthy lifestyle. It's not a diet so you're never going back to your old ways of yo-yo dieting.
Also remember to check to make sure you're in balance with your hormones. No, it's not easy to detect and only your Gyn or doctor can have these tested. This is also the culprit for those weird weight gains. Thyroid hormone is one.
Find some form of exercise. I enjoy walking and helps me reduce a lot of inflammation throughout the month.
Remember to weigh first thing when you wake up as you're well rested. And find your good days to jump on the scale. I only get one or two weeks a month and make sure I don't weigh during my inflammation days. It really makes a difference.
Our entire team is very supportive and lots of fun. Do jump in and let's support each other.

Hi everyone, I'm Lisa.

I am new to SP and the group. I am 42 and getting married July 12, 2014 so it is time to buckle down and get all this extra weight off so I will look good and be healthy and fit for my wedding and for my kids and grandkids. I have been yo-yoing with my weight lately and am tired of the up and down so I am making a new goal to be healthy and fit and am determined to see it through til the end.

Hi to all you amazing people!

I am new to SP and I am really looking forward to the community and support that this group can provide. I am 43 and have been on a roller coaster regarding my weight. Weighed 170, dropped to 115 with weight watchers and 10 years later I am back up to 166. BOO! My problem is the binge eating I do at night when I am alone at home and bored. I am getting married in January and would like to lose 40 pounds for my special day. If anyone has any ideas that have helped them from binging I am open to the advice!!! Would love to have a buddy to check in with and hold each other accountable.

Thank you for taking the time to introduce yourself. I also just started last week and I am trying to shift through all of the information/resources this website has to offer. The only thing I can say is that at the top of the page is a tab bar and if you go to each one of the topics ie my tracker etc..if you play around with it I think that you can access other supports. I gained roughly about 40 pounds over the last two years due to being ill and having a major surgery. I suppose meeting my partner three years ago falls into that too. Anyway if there is anything that I can do to help you on your journey do let me know.

Hi SP's! emoticon

I'm a newbie (last week). Slowly and surely checking out all the things that SP has to offer. I had a good week, but stumbled on the weekend, so here we are starting a new week and checking out what support and advice is on offer on the Team pages :)

So to introduce myself, here's the "blurb" that I wrote on my Sparkpage....which I am now off to find out how to "lock". If anyone can tell me where to find those weight tracker gizmos that you all are using on your messages I'd be very thankful!

I am 47 years old, an ex-pat from England (read: meat and potatoes) living in Ontario, Canada (read: cold winters, humid summers).

I have worked for the past 20 years in Emergency Services as a 911 dispatcher (read: stress, shift work, sedentary). I am mother to a grown son and two dogs (read: daily walks!)

...and I'm looking to lose the 25+lbs that I have gained since meeting and marrying my new husband, to get in shape and be at my healthiest before I hit the big 5-0.

I may not be there yet, but I'm closer than I was yesterday.

I am Laura, and I have been off and on with dieting and exercise for years. I am not new to this site, but I always stop when I get stressed and my motivation stops. I am disappointed in myself because I have done great, difficult things in my life, but have failed at this.
e other
I am a 45 yr old happily married women with 7 children 19-29 years old and 3 grand kids 6 months-2yrs. I work as a nurse manager in Home Health and can have a huge load of stress between family and work. I was WAY to thin through out high school and up until I got pregnant with my last child. I am not looking to be 'high school skinny'. After starting meds for hypothyroidism, I thought my weight problem would go away. It didn't. I have other diagnoses that I need to loose weight and improve my physical fitness for as well- high blood pressure, chronic myofascial pain, arthritis of knees and cervical spine.

My goals are to feel better about myself (feel sexy again), increase my energy level, and help decrease stress levels. I don't want to focus on the numbers, but I probably will obsess over them until I feel like I am making some progress.

I sound like I am severely depressed when I read what I just wrote! LOL. I am not. I just feel much more serious about the need to make some serious changes in my life. emoticon

Hi everyone
I'm new to sparkpeople and new to this team. Every time I try to lose weight, I end up gaining. So I hope sparkpeople will help me eating healthier. I like walking but need to exercise more. Now I'm only walking whenever I feel like it. I need to be more consistent. I have joined gym in the past but get discouraged and end up not going. This time I really want to do it.

emoticon Hi All! I'm a sorta new newbie. I was on here back in 2006 and got a great start and could fit into my favorite skirt then well here I am years later and I can't get myself in my fat pants. I'm getting married after dating the same man for 13 1/2 years. Yes I know. We don't like to rush things. ha! ha! The wedding is in July and it was the incentive I needed to get my butt in gear..literally. So here I am 42 with 3 practically grown young men, an upcoming wedding, finals (yes, I went back to school & yes I"m insane), a desk job that is stressful and a will do attitude. so that's all I can think of for now. I'm looking forward to this group and wish everyone the best.

I am new to Spark People. I'm 48 almost 49 years old. I'm tired of being over 40 pounds over weight and want to take better care of myself. I use food to relieve stress and I think I'm addicted to chocolate. I have 3 boys 20, 18, and 16 years old. I think it's time to turn my attention to my health and get more active and live life better. Tired of huffing and puffing every time I go up stairs.

Would love to buddy up with someone for support to finally get at my goal weight and stay there!!

I am a mother of 2. I "was" a part of SparkTeam in 2006/2007, Lost the lbs I wanted but now back to the same weight & need to lose the lbs again. I am almost 50 & at 165 lbs, a lot for a 5' woman. I would like to lose at least 40 to 45 lbs, or at least feel healthy & not have a hard time walking up the stairs.
Not sure if this is the right way of introducing myself. Just wanted to maybe have other people to chat with that have the same issues.

I'm officially new to SP. I've been peeking into the lives of SP's for years, but fear, excuses and bad choices kept me from joining in on the fun. So here I am now. I'm ready for any tips, advice and support to stay strong. I'm 42 and have recently lost weight. I'm enjoying the change in my life and want to continue with my success.

No more excuses, I feel strong when I push myself. I feel beautiful when I'm treating my body and mind well. I feel whole when I'm being real and honest with my health and mind.

I'm back - after several years of being out there, I'm back. I need new habits. I need a different support group. I'm in a different place in my life and I have to lose this weight now and for good. Four years ago, I took up curling. I love curling. While I will never make it to the elite level, I want to curl on the national club level someday. This means paying attention to what my body tells me. Understand that there's a difference between curling and curling well. It's easy to learn and hard to master. I want to get better. This was a hard transition year as I moved from throwing lead as a skip to throwing last. It makes a difference - everything is different. In the midst of it, I lost my ability to throw draw weight. This is important and if you know anything about curling, you'll understand. It means the difference between taking one against five or having hammer and getting your two. Well, I put on weight in the fall and it has hampered this transition. So it's time - I have to lose it.

My daughter has also decided that she wants to cook a lot more and cook competitively. I am a very good home cook and I will start teaching her more of what I know. She is going to culinary camp again this summer (her team won first place last year) and she wants to cook dinner at least once a week this summer. I love it. She is a good cook when she does put a meal together. At 12, she has some serious cooking chops. So I need to shake out of my lethargy and get back in the kitchen more often. She loves veggies and almost all protein so we will have fun. This will help - I don't want to be fat mom anymore. I need to be better for myself but also for her.

So back at it...never give up.

La cucina di un popolo è la sola esatta testimonianza della sua civiltà.

Welcome, LFUNSC, JHOLOWATHI and HAPPYKARINA! I have been hanging out at SparkPeople for about a year, and I really enjoy the community here. I am working on balancing an active job and trying to fit exercise in on top of that. I have been doing strength training in the form of the program from hundredpushups.com. I usually log over 10,000 steps a day just from my job, but really am ready to sit and be on the computer when I get home. I need to change that.

Hello,
I am new here and I am hoping this community will help me and keep me focus. I am 48 years old and my goal is to lose 50 pounds to be in the healthy zone. I recently lost 30 pounds but gained 5 pounds back and now I am having a hard time losing any weight even though I am eating healthy meals and doing the "right" thing in general. One thing is that I am not able to hit 1500 calories a day which is the recommendation for me to lose weigh at the pace I need to. I go to 1800. Any tips to keep the hunger away? Also, I cannot burn too many calories exercising because of a spine and knee injury so exercising is limited at the moment. Thanks and good luck everyone

Hi everyone. I am a brand new newbie with zero effort in the past at fitness and eating right. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted and never gain weight. I am the one that went to doctor after doctor trying to find a cause for me being super skinny and under a 100 lbs unless pregnant until I was maybe 22-23 years old. I hit a whopping 130 around the time I turned 30.

The closer I got to 40 the more sluggish I would feel and over the years the weight has just hit me. I am now trying to find ways to lose it. I have at least 30 lbs I want to lose but would love between 35-40. I want to get back down to 130!

My grandbabies are young and I want to be healthy enough to be able to enjoy going outside with them without becoming out of breath and needing to sit down and rest.

So I am not new to Sparkpeople, fitness or weight loss. Last year I got married and leading up to the wedding did great. Since the wedding I have fallen off the tracks and I am looking to get back into it. So today I committed to tracking my food and starting to workout consistently(which has been a struggle). So far so good I have logged all my food, water and snacks and blocked off an hour after work for me. I would like to lose about 30lbs but I am more focused on getting healthier and being fit.

Hi, I am coming back to Sparkpeople from last year...my problem is staying motivated & logging my food & fitness on a regular basis...I did it for two weeks last year and dropped off even tho I continued to workout. My workouts stopped in mid-September last year & with the HORRIBLE winter I haven't even been walking the dogs! So now its back to it & trying to set attainable goals so I will continue with my workouts. Dieting is very difficult for me cuz I am always hungry so for me it is truly "Die, with a T".

Hello everyone, I'm a part-time. intake specialist in the medical field. This winter weather has really gotten me out of my routine. In 2011 i started walking and watching what I ate and lost 40+ lbs.so i love the outside and walking is great for my body type(pear-shape).its been really cold here in NC and the spring weather is really dragging.so im coming here for support and friendly chats to get me moving again.hopefully I will find a walking partner who lives near.

I have been over weight most of my adult life. my love for cooking and socializing has made it a little challenging no more excuses: I'm 41 now and over 40 pounds.
Since I've been tracking my food and being careful what I eat i have lost 11 lbs.in a few weeks.ready to get out and walk! my short term goal is to jog a mile and then run a mile.
Im friendy so please feel free to add me as a pal here:)

Welcome Cassandra! Sounds like we have some similarities.I like you goal to be under 200 by June. Not sure I've given myself target date for that goal but I know I set that goal.

Make sure to go through the step by step introduction on the start page.I did one step each day to learn more about this site. It will help to get you focus and thinking about the little things you can change to reach your goal.

Best of luck!

Hello everyone, I'm a Stay at Home Mom of two and I work from home part-time. You would think I have all the time in the world to fit in exercising but I don't even think about it with my busy schedule. I also do volunteer work so when I finally have time to myself I sit on the couch to watch T.V.

I started gaining weight in my 20's after I found out that I had knee problems. So my adult life I've been overweight. I made a lot of excuses: "My husband loves me for who I am", " I don't have to impress anyone", " I have plenty of time" or my denial thought " I'm not that big".

I'm 46 now and over 35 pounds. I still look in the mirror and think I'm not that big....until I get a side view....what who is that whole other person behind me!

I recent bought a 40 pound box of litter and I could not lift the box. (See my first blog) That was during my first week of my journey and the light bulb went off. That's about the some amount of extra weight I'm carrying everyday.

Since then I've been tracking my food and being careful what I eat. Just completed my 3rd week and I've lost a couple of pounds until now. I had a minor set back this past weekend (See my week 3 blog) but I know that I have to take this one day a time. Still not making time for exercising but I have a few ideas: Just Dance wii game and strength training. Thanks for letting share.

P.S I should add I have not told my husband or my kids that I'm this journey. I need to prove it to myself first so having this site to blog and share on team pages is helpful for my soul.

Hi Everyone!
I have been up and down for a few years and this battle with eating healthy and exercise is one that I have not been able to get a handle on. However, I have been put into a position where I have some really exciting doors that might just open and I am going to need all of the energy and health and strength I can get in order to go through those doors. I have renewed motivation that I can do this with some help from some spark friends' encouragement. I wonder, will you allow me to start anew and reintroduce myself?

My name is Priscilla and my goal is to lose 30 pounds. I have lost and gained weight the last 15 years; and now I can no longer remember my 'skinny' days. I eat like I am 20 years old, but I am nearly 45. I sure feel young, but my body doesn't think so. It's time for me to reconcile the two and now is a great time to start. I am here for support and some accountability to my goals.

Hello,

My name is Stacy. I am hoping to lose weight and to become healthier and more energetic. I have a very supportive husband, I am a mother of four, work a full-time job, and am trying to finish up my BA degree. I have been steadily gaining weight, and feel crumby. Honestly, I feel more than crumby and have absolutely no energy. Any help, support, or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. My start date is tomorrow, I am hoping to have my profile and goals set-up by then.

~Stacy

I am a 40-year old male, 5'9" tall, that currently weighs 245 lbs.

I want to reach a goal weight of 180 lbs. and have a hard time seeing any results.

My goal is to find out what cardio and strength training exercises, how frequently to do them, when to do them, and what quantities will actually result in weight loss.

Hello! I have been struggling for years with balancing my weight and energy levels due to low thyroid. In 2012 I lost 30 lbs following a diet that was mostly raw/paleo. In spring of 2013 the doctor reduced my meds which caused me to regain half that weight even though I had not changed how I ate. I grew steadily weaker and more fatigued through the remainder of 2013. I recently switched to an endocrinologist to get my hormones balanced and have decided to switch to a whole foods, plant based diet to get my health restored. I also used to struggle with anemia so I would suggest you consider your cycle to see if that might be a cause. With each pregnancy I ended up with heavier cycles. My body could not reproduce what I needed in between, so a simple procedure remedied that and that has not been a problem since. My most recent struggle has been with arthritis in my neck so I am so ready for this to change. I mostly hope to learn some tasty recipes and cooking methods. I was not raised on a diet that consisted of a lot of vegetables so considering my diet change, I really need to learn some variety or this won't work. LOL. Nice to meet all of you!

Hi Kim, I'm also anemic, and have been for quite some time (8-10) years... have been keeping it in check with Iron supplements, but am now on a heavier dose (Feramax 150mg) seems to be helping. I'm also finding the weight loss slow, but steady if I stay away from processed foods... I also find if I'm eating "healthy, whole foods" I feel more energetic, cheerful, and the weigh comes off more steady (just not fast unfortunately) Im trying to swim 3 times a week, walk the dog every day, yoga twice a week and hoping to add a weigh training regime soon.... It sounds like a lot, but it helps me feel more energetic.. the less I do, the less I want to do... anyone else like this? Also, if I'm inactive, I can't sleep very well, which means the next day, I'm cranky, tired and likely to eat all crappy food to make myself feel better... vicious circle indeed. So.. I fit in the exercise and fall into bed tired and happy. Have a great day everyone!

Hello . my name is Kim but my nickname is sapphire because that is my birthstone.. like you I am new to the community ( just joined today in fact) and I am also new to weight gain that I can not explain because for years I was able to maintain my feel good weight of 145-155 pounds and I say feel good weight because it seemed that I was feeling my best n not looking to shabby when I was within that weight range but now I can feel the weight gain in more ways then one n see it very good in my belly n my fanny.... and while I may not look to rough I feel rough.. I found out a couple of months back that I was anemic and my doc recommended iron n a multi vitamin to help me feel better n so I have started doing that... but I am having a hard time getting back down to my feel good weight even thou I have been trying everything so I know what you are saying when you say the weight won't seem to go away... I try to eat better but maybe I am waiting the wrong foods for my type ( being anemic and all) so I have just decided to look up online foods that anemic a should be getting a lot of and a lot less of.. but I am asking you or anyone if anyone would be willing to go along with me ( via online and here on spark as well and just form a little support group for each of us trying to lose weight... for example share tips and ideas with each other) via the net and then keep notebooks where we write down the ideas and tips and of course share what worked or what didn't work. Anyone interested? I hope this idea is ok with spark

Hello Kim my name is also Kim.... I am 45 years old, married, two grown son's both engaged and I am not feeling to great about myself at the moment because I have gained weight... I use to have the energy to go go go but now it seems I barely have any left as if my energy has all but gone away.. I do bowl and walk my little dog almost everyday so I am moving just not able to go like I use to and its really bothering me... I found out that I am anemic a couple months ago and so I have started taking iron n a multi vitamin as recommended by my doctor and I have also started snacking on fruits n veggies( which is another attempt by me to get healthy but I am still not sure what else to do where food choices are concerned).. but you wrote that you have been down this road before.... was it a losing weight or general getting healthier ? I want to do both so if you or anyone have any ideas how I can get started it would be greatly appreciated... as I said I do walk n bowl so I do move.. should I add weights? Or walk further? Or take up bike riding? Thanks for your time

I am new to this team, and new to being overweight and trying to lose. When I hit my late 30's, I started to gain a little at a time. Now I am 42, and almost 40 pounds overweight. I don't know what happened, and no matter what I do, the weight won't seem to go away. I never had to watch my weight in the past, so I have no idea how to do it.

Jane, can you make a standing date with a friend for a walk, right after work, or at lunch...I have found that if someone else is involved I am more inclined to make the effort...eventually I will realize (and so will you ) that it feels good and gives you more energy and one day you'll find that even tho your friend couldn't make it, you're still out there walking on your own...good on us!
Bailey, LOL aliens!! They came to my place in my mid forties too!! LOL!! When they make it to your house to put you back, can you send them my way afterwards?
