Track everything you eat. You'll discover trends and patterns and will see if you are eating too many carbs or too much fat, for example. It's a real eye opener. Also track your exercise. The tracking tools on SP are awesome for all of that!

Chronic dehydration can be caused by meds (I have to drink twice as much because of my asthma meds). The only thing I do is just power my way through water. I add lemon or water flavor stuff (like Dasani drops) when I can't take any more plain water.

My name is Judy and in a few short months I will turn 45. I'm married going on 20 years this September and we have an almost 8 year old son. I've been basically the same weight for way too long, gaining and losing the same 5 pounds or so over and over again. I'm tired of it and need some extra support and motivation to go beyond and reach my goals of a healthy body and life.

Morning all! As a weight loss/gain it back veteran, I know that support groups are key, but they're always so hard to get into!!! So dipping my toe in and just saying "HI" as I enter my 2nd full week. Got a FitBit last week and joined SP shortly thereafter. Been doing great so far - but I know I'll get bored in about a week or so, so taking that next step and reaching out to others "in the fight" to help with the motivation. Also just started getting into the articles and videos. My ultimate goal is to rock a bikini by the time I'm 50 (just a couple years away)!

Yup, -I never thought I would ever have this "40 thing" with weight. I have always had a tiny waist, great shape, within great weight limits. Now I am 47 and within the last year, I swear, I don't know what took over my body. I cannot lose the 25 pounds I need to! I keep gaining and losing the same 5-7 pounds. Cellulite came out from nowhere. I have a little belly. I am in a size of clothing I can't believe. Summer is almost here and I am nowhere near ready. So, now I am getting serious. I'm going to monitor all I am doing with Spark People, because obviously, I am doing something wrong. - Can't wing it any more. So, today is day #2 for me!

Hello Team! I'm rsherman15, female, about to turn 46 and want to drop about 25 more pounds. I have a lot of body fat that I want to get rid of, but right now my only exercise is walking and a bit of bicycle riding. I have chronic dehydration...I just can't seem to get in enough water, so this limits my activity. I would love your support, suggestions and encouragement. Thanks!

Glad to hear that you are able to start getting active again. We all need support because changing our bad habits certainly isn't easy. I'm ready to begin again also. I'd like to lose 32 pounds by November. Good luck to you and I hope to see you around cyberspace!

Glad you're doing better after surgery and able to work out. Starting slowly and carefully is good. In fact, SP recommends starting with at least 10 minutes per day just to get the habit formed.

For diet, I always start off with small changes. Incorporating more fruits and veggies, cutting out sodas. And you can do this all slowly.

Hello everyone: I'm Terri. I am 49 and would like to lose 40 pounds. My main trouble area is my mid-section. Stubborn "spare tire" that just doesn't want to budge. I am a farm wife and mom of 3 beautiful girls ages 25, 17, and 12. Staying motivated to exercise everyday is a challenge for me... I need some good suggestions on exercises that will target that mid-section. Any suggestions???

Hi, I'm Andrea, I am 48 and have 30-35 pounds to lose. I was recently diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and although I have been trying to lose weight, I'm hoping now I can see some progress. My challenge is consistency, and working through the exhaustion and achenes. I know I can do it, just need to make myself a priority!

Hi everyone,
I joined SP last January but somehow did not make it any further. Now I want to do something about my problems and bad habits. I need to lose 25 lbs.
I'm a 42 years old mom of three. I live in Iceland and work full time. I love excising but I have not been able to do that since September due to knee problems and surgery. Now I'm starting training again, slowly and carefully, but at least that's the start. I look forward to gain more control over my health and weight.
My challenge though will be the diet.I know I will need a lot of support and I'm ready for giving support back to those who need. I look forward to taking this journey with you.

Hi all! I am 47 years old & mom to a 9 year old. I am really needing to get my weight under control. I would love to lose 45 more pounds. I am tired of feeling tired & of looking in the mirror and not recognizing myself. It's sad & depressing. I seclude myself because I'm embarrassed of how I look. I am lucky in that I usually lose weight pretty easily, it's the hitting a wall & gaining it back that is my big problem. I love to walk, hike through the woods, read, cook, turn trash into treasures & I am going to be taking a photography course soon. Would love motivation, help along & friendship. SP member from long ago....found out that it's been 547 days since I last logged in....have maintained at 25 pounds overweight for quite a while....now it's time to get rid of that and get back to where I feel my best and where the docs will get off my back (I don't buy their weight range for my height, but where I feel my best is closer to what they want than where I am right now).....trying to get motivated and moving again

Hi my name is Michelle and I will turn 43 this year. I celebrated my birthday for the first time last year. I'm an introvert so I never had a party or get together. I had a photoshoot by someone I fully trusted to take my pictures. This year I find that I want to do this again and am working on losing my weight so I can look my best for my birthday. Because I am an introvert, I do not have a support group outside of social network friends. It is so easy to fall of the wagon when alone. I hope to become more active and consistent this year in my goals. I really want to enjoy all the things life has to offer me. I hope I can learn from everyone and we can reach our goals together this year.



Just live the best life you can live. It's okay to start over. It's okay to lose everything and rebuild. Misery loves company, so choose your company carefully!

Hi I am Nancy and I joined SP almost two weeks ago. I am 46 and trying to lose the 35 pounds that I have gained over the last three years. Up until yesterday I had been really frustrated with working out and not losing any weight. I weighed in yesterday and after six weeks of working out I have lost 4 pounds. I know I can do this because I have lost weight before.

Hi , my name is Patsy, I'm a new member. Just a week ago I was in an emergency room do to a severe gastritis , that make me realize that , I have to work hard to loose this pounds and change my diet habits. So I star including more fruits and vegetables on my diet and after a week of changing , I fill happy to tell you that , I fill a lot better , I haven have any pain this days and also I star to walk again with my husband. Hi. I'm Renee. I'm 47 with a history of autoimmune thyroid disease. Levels are currently not optimal due to poor doctors but I'm changing insurance in December. I'm being pushed into a CFS/fibromyalgia diagnosis based on my symptoms that I think is incorrect. I'm currently on a med for fibro that does seem to be helping, but it also improves thyroid hormone absorption so it does not clarify the diagnosis. I'm currently challenging the CFS diagnosis by gently pushing my exercise tolerance.

I have about 25 lbs to lose to get back to healthy weight, and about 40 to get to an "ideal" weight.

Hi, I am new to Spark as of today. I am a wife & mother of 5, kids ages range from 10-21. I am an office manager so I'm sitting most of the day & I work very long hours..10 hours a day usually. I found Spark by a google search for healthy menu plan, I really like the concept. I have been over weight for many years, this being my heaviest point. I am very unhappy w myself & have decided I need to make changes to my lifestyle to be happier w my looks & improve my confidence. Theres so many things I'd like to do but can't because my weight holds me back...its time this changes!! As I am in my 40s (41 exactly) I know this won't be as easy as it use to be. My ultimate goal is to lose a total of 100lbs..which I have broken down into stages..the first being a 40lb goal. For me I have to reach a smaller goal before I can look at the big picture..it seems less overwhelming I guess.

Hi all, I'm Wendy. Working to lose about a third of me! 49 pounds would be great to lose, but I will aim for 25 first. Becoming New. Shedding Winters Skin. Waking up to my next evolution which is all about valuing and loving myself and consciously choosing health. What would love do? What would the healthy choice be? Being inspired by and being inspirational to my kids. Feeling fresh, fit and sexy.

Consistency happens with time. Make something a habit and you become consistent. It takes about 30 days for that habit to fully form.

SP recommends starting with at least a 10 minute exercise commitment per day. Everyone can commit to at least 10 minutes. Then build up more time and consistency from there.

Hi everyone.

My name is Laura. I was on Spark People a few years ago, but didn't have the right mindset for change at the time. I am back with renewed motivation and a more positive attitude. I am 44 years old, mom of 3 and I live in Illinois. I know my husband and kids love me, but I don't feel they support me at all. It would be great to not feel like I am alone in my quest for a healthier lifestyle.

I have lost and gained back the same 10 pounds probably 50 times in the past 5 years. That all changes now. My goal is to lose 30 pounds by this summer.

I had never heard of SP until today. I was searching the web to find an alternative to weight watchers and I ran across this program. Right now you have no spark page. Go to Today on SparkPeople and then go to the Quick Links tab and go through the getting started steps to learn more about SP.

To set up your spark page, go to My Trackers, Spark Points and at the bottom under One Time Challenges is a link to setting up your page.

Once that's done, you should see a tab that says "my spark page" under your profile pic any time you post anything. Right now it says only send private message and reply, which tells me you haven't set up a spark page yet.

I sabotage myself, have trouble with stress, emotional eater at times, etc. All of these things make it harder to lose weight--but I'm still determined.

A good way to buddy up--is to finish creating your spark page. This allows you to add friends and for friends to add you. We can also leave comments on your page and send you goodies. Without the spark page, we can only interact through emails or postings on the team forums.

Hi Wendy! Yes, I would love to buddy up......this is a difficult journey and would love all the encouragement I can get! I hope I can do the same for you! Pretty good first day so far.....food choices and tracking, but I wont be able to go to y for spinning class until my husband gets home from a trip on Thursday. I find if I am not both exercising and eating healthy....I do not see success or able to keep motivation for long. Planning has always been important for me and allows me to feel like I am in control!

Hi, my name is Susan. I joined Spark years ago but have never utilized it to its fullest extent. I am recommitting myself (once again) in hopes of reaching my goals. I am 44 years old, a wife, a mother, a busy professional and I am overweight by 50 pounds. I gained the weight 8 years ago when I had my daughter and it continued to stay on after the birth of my son 4 years ago. I have 'started' again and again only to fail. My goal is to lose this weight by August and to be kinder to myself......to realize I eat when I am stressed and to find different ways of handling this stress. I have been in a self-sabotage mode for many years and I need to change for myself and my family. I plan to reach my goals by exercising at a minimum 3x per week (joined a local YMCA!), eat 'clean' and within allotted calorie limits, and be accountable by logging in my tracker every day, participating in this Team and also weighing in each week. Wish me luck!

Hi Chrystal, we sound like two peas in a pod. I'm an emotional eater as well and that's how I gained my weight. I just signed up yesterday so maybe we can do this together! My name is Lyn (screen name is Granva). Good luck! I don't know if you're a religious person or not but my mantra is "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me".

Hi I am new to the site. I am 41 my name is Chrystal. I want to loose 46lbs. I am hoping this site will help me stay inspired and motivated. I tend to be an emotional eater which is difficult to overcome. I do well for a week or so then something triggers me to fall off. So wish me luck

Hi, I am new to this site and trying to figure things out. I'm a middle-aged mom trying to take better care of herself. I've always put everyone else's needs before mine. I lost my dad last month to cancer and my mom six years prior. It's got me thinking of my own mortality. I saw a dietician today and she recommended this website so here I am! haha I'm ready to make some changes in my life and put my own needs up there with everyone else's. emoticon

Hi everyone! My name is Jody and I'm 43. I have been away from SP for a few years. But after a close family member found out they have diabetes and high cholesterol last month, I was reminded that I need to do more to lower my risk of having health problems down the road.

My immediate goals are to be more consistent with exercise and more mindful of what I eat.

Hi, I am Andra and I will be 46 in a few days - decided if I am ever going to get into the shape I want to be in - I need to do it now! The older I get the harder it is to fight off fat and cellulite. Need to get better at eating healthier and excising on a regular basis. I joined this group hoping for the motivation to keep me on track with my goals. emoticon
