Hi everyone, my name is Nan. I am in my late 40's and want to lose 25 to 30 lbs. I joined Sparkpeople last week from the phone app and now I see that I can also use the website! It is much easier to enter my food log into my computer than my phone, but it's nice to have the app for on-the-go. I am just starting out and trying to change my eating habits. I am not doing any exercise yet, but I hope to build up to walking 3 times per week. Looking forward to getting and giving support!

Hi there! I am new to SP, joined a few days ago. I previously used My Fitness Pal but I have been stuck lately and have managed to gain back everything I lost. I felt like I needed a 'fresh' start or 'do over' so here I am. :) Oh, I am a 44 yr mother of one 4 yr old; I currently am a SAHM which I love!

Hey there. IDK if i ever introduced myself on here. I've been away from SP for... I don't even know. A long time.
I have watched my weight creep up over the past few years. I am officially at my highest high.
:(
I really need people who I can chat with and relate to who don't judge me.
I'm a yoga, hoop and belly dance teacher. My life goal is to motivate people (especially women) to live the life they want now at this size, in this body.
But that doesn't mean that I don't want to get my health in order before it's too late!
I'm interested in making some new and active SP friends.
Namaste :)

Hi Everyone,
I'm Jen and I'm the mother of an awesome 10 year old. We currently have 2 dogs, though at times we've had as many as 6. I walk and board dogs for a living and last year I decided to go back to university online. It had been 26 years since I was in university so it was a bit of a learning curve.
Last year I broke my shoulder and just as it was healing, though not enough to go back to serious dog walking, Toronto got hit with an ice storm. I'd already started gaining weight then, was baking up a storm for Christmas which ended up being a holiday with no power for five days. Between not walking because of my shoulder, unable to walk because everything was a sheet of ice, a house full of baked goods that never got delivered, and starting school which took about 6 hours a day I really started to gain. I was so depressed that winter and the weight just added to it and I couldn't seem to stop eating. I gained 50 lbs in about 5 months.
I started walking lots this summer and eating healthy, juicing, lentils, raw veggies you name it and I gained another 5 lbs before I leveled out and stayed at 180. I started thinking maybe it was a medical problem. Then I read an article by Jillian Michaels and realized that even though I was walking 12 km a day I might not be losing, but I wasn't gaining anymore so it had to be what I was eating. I also read that if you do the same exercise all the time your body becomes more efficient at it and all I had done was added more walking.
Enter SparkPeople and for 12 days I've been religiously tracking calories, added weights, exercise videos, my elliptical (oh yeah, I have a gym in my house, truly no excuse for no exercise because of the ice and snow), and even a yoga video. I've lost 8 lbs in 12 days and realize that the portions and amounts of food I was eating before were insane. I'd eat salad, but it was the size you'd make to feed a family of 6.
I've always yoyo'd and dieted since I was a teen and my closet has clothes from size 6 to 16. (I sadly broke into a box of maternity clothes one day desperate for something that fit). I am beyond excited that I feel I can do this now, my energy is through the roof compared to what it was, I now use exercise to procrastinate doing my school work but get such a boost from the exercise I can focus when I study. I don't even need to buy new clothes as I lose weight as I will be able to wear my favourite clothes again as I move back down the sizes.
Can you tell I'm happy to be here?? To top it off my stress levels that added to my eating are lower.
Hope I haven't written too much or sounded too happy, it has been a struggle to not snack or munch at night but so far so good I've opted for healthy options if I'm really hungry.
So glad to be here,
Jen 😊

Hi! I have been battling this weight thing for years! I have finally revamped my life to cooking fresh meats and vegetables, but my allergies are off the charts, and I have gained 10 pds taking Benedryl! This stresses me, and I am here to learn how to cope with the stress instead of eating! I know that through Yahushua; I will conquer all things!

I am currently trying to learn how to control my allergies naturally, so I will not continue to gain weight because of my medicine! (My goal is to be medicine free) I have stopped and started this journey to being a better keeper of my temple so many times, but this time it is going to be different because my mindset is on the future in Yahushua (Jesus) and not the past! I look forward to growing with this group as we work diligently to meet our goals!

Without a struggle, there can be no progress!

Hello, I am 41 yo mum of three boys (9, 11 and 13) and a live in a small town in rural Australia. I lost the baby weight after each pregnancy pretty well but a few years ago as I neared forty and started a stressful mostly sitting-down-all-day job I started eating terribly and stopped exercising.I also developed a little addiction to full strength coke (the drink) and sleeping tablets and was on a slippery slope to ill health. Result - I gained about 14 kilos in 18 months and felt terrible. I finally got my head in the right space last week and have started eating well, exercising and tracking my food. I have quit the caffeine and the sleeping tablets. Already feeling better with more energy and sleeping better and I have dropped a couple of kilos.

My goals are to keep away from the white sugar, eat lots of fruit and veggies and get some walking in every day. I'd like to lose those 15 kilos asap however I know they took 18 months to go on so it will probably take at least 6 months to come off. As long as I keep moving in the right direction I'll try to stay patient (not one of my strengths).

My immediate challenge will be returning to work next week after a two week break. I am planning on being well prepared so I can take my own healthy lunch and snacks and stop buying the yummy take away food that had become my regular lunch.

Looking forward to getting to know you all better as we work towards our goals.

I'm 43 and I want to lose about 30 lbs. I keep losing the same 15 lbs over and over again. It is so hard to drop weight at this age. I have to really exercise like crazy to lose weight at all. It's really starting to bother me.

Hi I am sherry I am back after almost 4 years being away. Long story short, I almost died and other set backs which is on my sight in more detail of what happened and why I am back.

I am back partly because for the first time in my life I was diagnosed with high blood pressure, along with that high cholesterol and the two together was a red flag for me to get going and do something about it, and this time to make it an every day part of my life to work out and eat right.

I am at an all time high of 181 pounds and have lost 4 pounds since starting on my program three weeks back.

This is such a wonderful place and it is so wonderful that it is free. All the support, recipes, advice, and more is just what I need to help keep me going.

look forward to getting to know some of you as we travel down this path together.

I am 47 and thinking about how I want to look and feel like as I go into my 50's and beyond. I want to spend my golden years in shape and in good health with my husband enjoying life and traveling, and that will not happen if I keep going the way I have been. emoticon

I took two weeks of holidays recently to work on me. To create a plan for working out and eating and to implement it, along with having some mini spa days, so when I started I was really ready to go and to tackle any obstacles that may come my way. emoticon emoticon

I am in control of who I am,
What I want to look like,
what I put into my mouth and mind,
today and every day
I choose only the best,
That will surely,
lead me to success.
sherry

Hello everyone! I'm returning to Spark after completely undoing what I did before and adding even more pounds. I did so well last time because of the forums and having daily support from my spark "friends" who were going through many of the same issues. So I'm here and going to try to do the same thing. My name refers to the fact that I work in a cubicle which I call my cubby because it's super small. I don't get much movement during the day unless it's my fingers typing. I also work at a college and good grief I think the fat is in the walls sometimes. We all gain weight while working here. But I'm looking to change all that. So emoticon everyone and I look forward to getting to know everyone!

I'm returning to SparkPeople today after quite a while away. I'm a chronic yo-yoer, but I'm feeling refreshed and determined to change my eating habits. I'm 45 and I have about 40 pounds to lose. I'm a writer and I live with a good man and two fine pugs. I've been working out with Daily Burn for about a month and a half. I've gained weight during that time, so tracking nutrition feels really important. I also love yoga and try to go to a class once a week.

Hello All, I just reconnected with Spark after regaining about 25lbs. I lost 98lbs about 6 years ago and kept it off until just recently. I'm not sure why the weight gain has occurred. I continue to workout and spin a couple times a week. I don't think my eating habits have changed that dramatically. So I'm back to tracking my food in order to figure this out. Any motivation or hints welcome. I an determined to lose this weight once again. emoticon emoticon

Welcome, Deborah! Many of us have tried many times to lose weight and keep it off. Although this is my first time round with SP, I have been here about a year and a half, with about a 6 month period of not being active on the site. I have a very active job, but I also know that I need to do activity over and above my job levels. Eating is my nemisis. If it is food, I pretty much like it, unless it is a vegetable - those, not so much.

Whenever I have tried to lose weight, I try to do everything all at once, and burn out quickly. I am trying to take baby steps this time, and make small, incremental changes. I have had some success, but recently graduated from school as a Physical Therapist Assistant, got a job as a PTA, moved to another state, in the process of getting divorced and have custody of my 13 yr old DS. My 22 yr old DD and 19 yr old DS are in the process of moving 3 states away - along with DS's girlfriend and their 2 yr old daughter (my granddaughter.)

So, hang in there - lots of good information and advice here - take what works for you, and approach life one day at a time. Make the healthiest decisions you can at the time you are making them.

This is my 3rd (or 4th) round with Sparkpeople. It really helps me get my eating under control, because I log it here and it shows me everything. I got away from it, and ballooned up to more than I weighed pregnant. So, back down we go, and hopefully stay there. I've joined a gym and work out 5 days a week, 3 in a class and 2 with a personal trainer. Now I have to get my eating under control again so the pounds can start melting away!!!
I am a mother of two, and I also have a husband, a career and a dog. That means busy busy all the time. I will be learning to plan my meals better over the next few weeks too.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it!

Be the girl you were too lazy to be yesterday!

I hear you girl! I'm 47, up to 215. It's tough because my husband loves my body as is, and I fight our cultures costant bombardment of 'get thin' messages... but I would really love to get back into my jeans, and back below 200 to take some pressure off my knees. I live in yoga pants because I refuse to buy jeans over size 16. So... joined here yesterday, and I am making the effort to eat smaller portions and walk further each day. Cheers to you!

Hi! My name is Heather. I am 41. New here but not new to Spark. Been on my weight loss journey since 2008. Have kind of fallen off the wagon so back to get my butt in gear. Last time I was here I was still in my 30s but now into my early 40s. Hope to get my motivation back and be an inspiration to others as well.

Hello everyone. I am 45 years old and recently became a grandmother for the first time. I'm trying this again because my current weight is 213 pounds and I'm just tired and frustrated with feeling exhausted and unhealthy all the time. I'm also tired of buying clothes that make me feel old and frumpy. I just purchased a treadmill and plan to use it for at least 30 minutes every day. I'm looking for some moral support and to be accountable to someone other than myself. Good luck everyone and let's all keep up the fight. emoticon

Hello all, just turned 40 in April and I've noticed that lately that it's ALOT harder to lose it now than it was even just a few short years ago. I swear I've lost the same 30 pounds at least 10 times! I'm a mom to an amazing boy and my husband and I just celebrated our 19th anniversary. I'm really hoping to meet some great members with similar goals, make some new friends and most importantly develop some healthy habits to last a life time. emoticon

Hello! I am 41 years old with 35 pounds left to lose. I've lost just over 8 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I am an elementary school teacher so I am taking advantage of my summer to set some healthy habits into place. Looking forward to being a part of the team!

A year from now you will wish you had started today.

I am 44 and currently weigh 178 (5'5"). My goal is 135. I started eating low carb a week ago and I have stopped drinking alcohol for the last 11 days! I already feel better and plan to start exercising tonight. I used SparkPeople a few years ago after chemo for breast cancer to help me get the steroid weight off. I am excited to get started again and get healthy!

Hello and happy Sunday all! My name is Terrie, I'm not really new to SparkPeople, but I've been gone for quite awhile. I hope I can make it work this time because starting over, and over, and over again is getting exhausting! For health and happiness reasons I need to make some serious changes in my life.

I've spent the weekend setting up my account and page, cleaning out my fridge and pantry, as well as planning my meals and workouts for this week. I'm looking forward to my workouts tomorrow and I'm definitely feeling prepared and ready to get started! Today I'm cleaning and prepping my workout room, as well, I really want to start a journal with some very clear and decisive goals.

I'm looking forward to the help and support of this team!

Hello all. I am a 44 year old mother of two teenagers and as they are almost grown and one of them is out of the house and on his own now, I figure it's high time I start doing something for myself. I've struggled with weight all my life. Managed to lose quite a bit till I moved in with my now husband and got "comfortable". Ended up gaining back 30 pounds of the 50 that I had lost. So here I am ready to lose it again and this time for good!

Hi, I'm Rebecca. I want to lose about 40 lb in the next 12 months. I have one child -- a preschooler. He takes a lot of time/energy, but I have to admit that he's also a handy scapegoat for when I feel like procrastinating, lol. Like someone else posted, I have lost and re-gained the same 10-15 pounds several times over the past 2 years. My little man just keeps getting faster, though; I'm ready to get serious about my health and fitness this time!

Hi my name is Theresa. I joined spark earlier this year but then fell off the wagon and gained more weight so I'm back to try again. I am 46 with a 16 year old daughter. I want to lose 30+ pounds.

Welcome Carrie! I have human children and cat children, but love dogs. I think a Chocolate Lab sounds wonderful as a fur child. He/she can help you get your exercise in - what a great walking buddy.

Welcome Kate3800! Keep up the good work, and I hope the tools and connections with others on similar journeys helps you along your path.

Hi!

I'm Cathrine - I'm 47 and I have a great husband and 3 daughters - 11, 11 and 14 years old.

Over the last 6 months I've lost the same 10 pounds 4 times (!!). So I need to try something different and I'm hoping all the tracking and goal setting will help me. My main motivation is to have more energy and confidence.

Cathrine

My name is Stephanie and I am 44 years old. I have been married to my wonderful husband for 13 years and have a 9 year old son and a 7 year old girl. I have slowly been putting on weight over the past few years and now I am at the point where I am determined to do something about it! I would love to lose 25 pounds and get back to the weight I was when I got married. I have been trying to do this on my own, but have not been successful. I am confident that by joining this group, I will be motivated and will keep myself accountable!

My name is Leisa and I'm 48. Married 15 years with two girls 11 1/2 and 14. I didn't start gaining weight until after my kids were born and once I turned 40 all the fun began! Over the course of the last eight years my weight has been up and down and at the moment I'm down 11 lbs from highest point and am working towards another 49 to get me to 150. I am 5'7 and when I got down to that weight 3 years ago I felt great. It's not the number I'm chasing specifically, it's how I felt. I put it out there that I'd run a Family 5k in December. I have a lot of work to do. Oh, and running has NEVER been something I'd willingly do unless I was being chased! Looking forward to a fit & fabulous 50!!

Welcome Melissa. One thing that I found that happened for me was that if I tried to do "everything" at once, I would burn out quickly and just quit. Try to make changes slowly, and as each change becomes habit, then work on another change. I will admit, I am still working on this concept. I pretty much have the activity down, but the eating part I struggle with daily. Right now, I am working on getting in my 8 glasses of water each day. Not going as well as I would like, but I start each day fresh and try again.

Hi, My name is Melissa and I am 40 years old. I am the mother of 3, ages 21, 20 and 10 and grandma to a 1 year old. I was thrown into menopause back in 2008 due to a complete hysterectomy and have had trouble ever since keeping weight off. I can not take hormones due to underlying issues, so losing is difficult. I have been a member of Sparks for a couple of years now only lasting a week or two. This time I have been active since May and am determined to get the weight off. No more crash diets or anything else that doesn't really work. I am exercising daily and changing my diet to smaller portions watching calories and carbs. I have lost 11 lbs. with a lot more to go!

Mel

Hello Fellow 40 Somethings! My name is Shauna. I am 45 years old and the Mom of a two, 20 & 17. I had gastric bypass back in 1986 at the age of 17. Lost 100 lbs in 6 months. Put about 15 back on and maintained a healthy 155 lbs (Im 5'7) pretty effortlessly for many years and two pregnancies. Two years ago at 43, I went into full menopause literally overnight. And between the ages of 41-42, I gained almost 40 lbs doing nothing differently than I have since having GB. So I am chalking it up to menopause. Either way, I am here to lose this weight, get healthy, make friends and find support. :)

Hello everyone! My name is Laura and I just joined Spark yesterday. So much to see and do here, just a touch overwhelming but no worries... I got this. Single Mom with a beautiful 18 year old daughter. Have lost about 75-80 lbs in the past year (depending on the water retention). Lost 30 thru diet and took phentermine for a few months. The additional 50 came off due to medical stuff. Had knee and leg surgery and pain is a great appetite suppressant. Now that I am better, the FATGIRL appetite has come back with a vengeance especially near bedtime (Sweet, Salty, Sweet, Salty....) So came to Spark looking for information and motivation. Just started working out about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Figured since I had to do physical therapy 2-3 times a week for my leg, might as well add some other full body stuff. Thanks for listening and letting me join your group.

Hi Everyone,

I am another member that is new to this group but returning to Spark. I am the proud (but EXHAUSTED) Mommy of a 3 year old girl and soon to be 2 year old boy. I was sick during both pregnancies so actually LOST weight and felt better than ever. However, late nights, lack of sleep, stress and being able to eat again led to all but 10lbs of that weight coming back on. My goal is to eat healthier, move more, and lose 30lbs. I am happier than I have ever been but now want to feel confident in my own skin and have the energy to keep up with my kids and giving them the mom they deserve. I look forward to meeting you all.

:) Heather

Hello everyone. I am a 42 year old single mother of 6 with 2 left at home (ages 16 and 3). I had a lot of medical issues with my baby girl back in 2010-2011. Having to deal with a blood clot the entire length of my left leg during pregnancy was hard. I could barely get around but was told to move and rest move and rest move and rest throughout the day. I am trying to lose as much of the weight I gained from the pregnancy. my goal is 150 to 160 in the end, But i set my first goal to lose 50 (I weigh 244). I have not gained any or lost any since her birth in 2011. Just steady I guess. Exercise is difficult for me at the moment due to my knee problems so any exercises you can recommend would be helpful. I need a lot of motivation and support. I want to enjoy the time I have with my little girl. I am new to the site and am not a computer wiz. Wish me luck.

Hey all,
I am 43 and a mother of three (four if you count the husband), I am new to the team but not to SP. I have been a member for quite some time and recently have been doing very well. I wanted to find a couple more groups that seem to be a little more active and motivational. Looks like there is quite a bit of activity here. I don't check into the teams every day but I try to at least a couple of times a week to see how everyone is doing and share my progress. I look forward to see you all around here.

My name is Yvonne. Divorced and mother of 3. My oldest will be 25 in July. My middle is 23 and both just got engaged. Youngest is 15. I had a lapband back in 2008. Lost 70lbs. Now I fluctuate up and down in the 190's. I want to loose 40 to 50 lbs more. My goal is to reach between 145 and 155. I have 2 weddings to plan. According to the calculations, I can do this by November. I need willpower, encouragement and no sabotage. I need to keep motivated and moving. So lets all cheer each other on!

Welcome everyone! I too struggle with motivation. It seems to come and go. Right now I am having a rough patch at work, but walking helps me clear my head, so the activity side is going well, but the eating part, not so much.

Hi, I am 44 and signed up a while back but didn't follow through and still have all this weight to lose. I have 4 teenagers and the oldest will graduate from High School next May. Needles to say I do want to look my best:) and feel good! staying motivated is my biggest problem, the weight will come of I know if I just slug it out to the bitter end and not eat when I'm stressed or bored. So here we go!!!

Hi, I am new to this group. My name is Nickie. I am a binge eater. I can eat really well all day and track. I am pretty active. but once the evening comes, I can't control myself.
I want to lose 40 pounds. 50 would be better. but 40 seems a litle more doable.
I lost 80 pounds about 5 years ago on Spark and now I am back up again. I know what I did last time..and not stuffing my face in the evening was a huge part of it. I don't know how I stopped during that time. but I sure wish I could get there again.
I am working on it!

Hello. I am not sure this will work. I am trying to introduce myself to the team. I am 43 and have been eating way too much. Sometimes I have eaten for comfort, and other times just for entertainment. I have realized that I have at least 30 pounds that I want to lose. I am trying to be an example for my children who have unfortunately picked up some unhealthy habits as well. Hopefully, this is the year that we will all get a little healthier:)
I enjoy cooking, hiking, swimming, and biking and would love to move to a town by the beach someday!
I look forward to connecting with you all as we embrace the journey! emoticon

Hi, I am 45 and have been a spark member for a couple of years. I was three pounds above my goal weight when my Dad died, daughter had spinal surgery, and Mom had to move to assisted living.

I am currently working on living a healthier life. Just difficult to measure that. So, am trying to accomplish that by losing 1 pound a week. Have started allergy shots so it's easier to be outside. I also have insomnia, so am working on ways to increase sleep time. Hopefully, all of the above will help.

I love to go on long walks with my dog, garden and take pictures.

Hi All - I'm a 47 year old mother of three (13,12 and 10). I have been a member here at SP for some years already, but never had the commitment to succeed. Today is a new day, and after a long hiatus from SP, I am ready to do it right. I have noticed that many of my Spark Friends are no longer active here, and I'm hoping to find some new inspirational buddies, so please, look me up, and I'll be happy to encourage and support in any way I can! emoticon emoticon

Hi Gang,

My name is Cheryl. I'm 48, I'm a mortician and I have lost about about 10 pounds since last August. However, I am pretty much stuck in the mid 150s and have been for about 4 months. Ack! Looking for people with similar issues to help me get over the hump!

Hi everyone,
Returning sparkmember here.
I fell off the healthy habits wagon a long time ago and have tried to climb back on several times but always kept one foot dragging so haven't seen any success like when I was first here.

I'm interested in learning to enjoy eating healthy and not enjoying so much junk foods. I also want to get back into fitness which I have completely fallen away from.

When I was first here (probably about 4 years now) I found the love of running. I don't run anymore and am looking for a new love in the fitness realm.

I'm 47 and between my husband and I we have 10 children. All are grown except the youngest who is 8 years old. Our oldest daughter lives with us with her daughter. Our grand daughter is now 6 years old so a great companion for her 8 year old uncle.

I am in control of who I am and who I will become.

Hi! I am new to this team, and a returning SP member. It's been a long time since I've been on here...but now I am back and recommitted to do my best in getting my weight back to my target weight! In June 2010 I was 265 and got to 138. It felt great! I am 4 years out, and am a whopping 185.8 lbs. (was 191 last week, but started taking back my life now Im on week 2). I am wanting to get back down to at least 145 but its going to be a rough road.

Hi! I don't think I remembered to post on this team yet!

My name is Julie, I'm 44 years old, with three kids ages 16, 14 and 7. Yesterday I was grocery shopping because one daughter was having a sleepover party to celebrate the end of school. On her list for me to get them was ice cream, pizzas, M&M's, S'mores ingredients and chips!! Last night I caved in to a little of the ice cream. This morning, I put on a workout video on Wii and did it for 45 minutes. After this, I don't have any appetite for those snacks at all! I hope it lasts all day!

Hi Everyone! My name is Karen and I am 46 years old and have about 30 pounds to lose. I have been married for 22 years and have a 17 year old son. My life these last few years has been caring for my aging parents, working full time, being a Mom and Wife and totally avoiding even thinking about my weight. After my mother's recent death I was looking thru pictures and honestly it was like I didn't exist because I have hid from photos for 20 years because of my insecurities. I need to feel good about myself for the first time in my life and I am ready to make that change. Good Luck everyone!

Hello everyone :) I am new to this team/forum, but been a member for years. I have come and gone tbh (as have many) but within the last 2 years have managed to really ramp up things and get myself in order. Former Graves' Disease, now under control, working on daily workout 'sessions' that they've become a priority to my day; eating less and healthier choices (I don't diet, I just eat better!) and hoping to continue. I still have a way to go, but am happy with my progress (and unhappy that I can't wear clothes I just got a few months ago! lol) I've read a lot of the 'new team member' posts - posted here and various other posts/topics. As I'm 44 and striving along a similar journey, here's to all of us - hoping and wishing for a healthier and happier 'me and you'!

If I think I can, then I probably can. Ten minutes of my self arguments to exercise could have been a nice ten minute walk around the block!

Hi everyone, My name is Karen and I have explored SP for the last week now and learning lots of great information. Wasn't sure how to join this team, let alone respond. So I hope this works.
I am 47, been married for 17 years and a mother of 3 daughters with only one left at home. I'm not home a lot so I wanted to join something that would help my hubby and I stay on track and away from fast food. So far this has helped greatly and I have my hubby trying to grill and cook on the road instead of fast food. And believe it or not he's actually eating healthy foods too.. So I'm pretty stoked about this program and I have been using "walking the dogs" to give us both exercise. As you probably guessed, anything healthy is like putting a vampire in the sun...LOL!! But I have my ways of sneaking things in... I'm looking forward to this team and doing all we can do to support each other...Have a wonderful and blessed day!!
