I'm officially new to SP. I've been peeking into the lives of SP's for years, but fear, excuses and bad choices kept me from joining in on the fun. So here I am now. I'm ready for any tips, advice and support to stay strong. I'm 42 and have recently lost weight. I'm enjoying the change in my life and want to continue with my success.

No more excuses, I feel strong when I push myself. I feel beautiful when I'm treating my body and mind well. I feel whole when I'm being real and honest with my health and mind.

I'm back - after several years of being out there, I'm back. I need new habits. I need a different support group. I'm in a different place in my life and I have to lose this weight now and for good. Four years ago, I took up curling. I love curling. While I will never make it to the elite level, I want to curl on the national club level someday. This means paying attention to what my body tells me. Understand that there's a difference between curling and curling well. It's easy to learn and hard to master. I want to get better. This was a hard transition year as I moved from throwing lead as a skip to throwing last. It makes a difference - everything is different. In the midst of it, I lost my ability to throw draw weight. This is important and if you know anything about curling, you'll understand. It means the difference between taking one against five or having hammer and getting your two. Well, I put on weight in the fall and it has hampered this transition. So it's time - I have to lose it.

My daughter has also decided that she wants to cook a lot more and cook competitively. I am a very good home cook and I will start teaching her more of what I know. She is going to culinary camp again this summer (her team won first place last year) and she wants to cook dinner at least once a week this summer. I love it. She is a good cook when she does put a meal together. At 12, she has some serious cooking chops. So I need to shake out of my lethargy and get back in the kitchen more often. She loves veggies and almost all protein so we will have fun. This will help - I don't want to be fat mom anymore. I need to be better for myself but also for her.

So back at it...never give up.

Welcome, LFUNSC, JHOLOWATHI and HAPPYKARINA! I have been hanging out at SparkPeople for about a year, and I really enjoy the community here. I am working on balancing an active job and trying to fit exercise in on top of that. I have been doing strength training in the form of the program from hundredpushups.com. I usually log over 10,000 steps a day just from my job, but really am ready to sit and be on the computer when I get home. I need to change that.

Hello,
I am new here and I am hoping this community will help me and keep me focus. I am 48 years old and my goal is to lose 50 pounds to be in the healthy zone. I recently lost 30 pounds but gained 5 pounds back and now I am having a hard time losing any weight even though I am eating healthy meals and doing the "right" thing in general. One thing is that I am not able to hit 1500 calories a day which is the recommendation for me to lose weigh at the pace I need to. I go to 1800. Any tips to keep the hunger away? Also, I cannot burn too many calories exercising because of a spine and knee injury so exercising is limited at the moment. Thanks and good luck everyone

Hi everyone. I am a brand new newbie with zero effort in the past at fitness and eating right. I used to be able to eat anything I wanted and never gain weight. I am the one that went to doctor after doctor trying to find a cause for me being super skinny and under a 100 lbs unless pregnant until I was maybe 22-23 years old. I hit a whopping 130 around the time I turned 30.

The closer I got to 40 the more sluggish I would feel and over the years the weight has just hit me. I am now trying to find ways to lose it. I have at least 30 lbs I want to lose but would love between 35-40. I want to get back down to 130!

My grandbabies are young and I want to be healthy enough to be able to enjoy going outside with them without becoming out of breath and needing to sit down and rest.

Hi I'm Tasha a returning Sparker. I've had some successes and set backs in the past and I'm trying to get back in the game. I'm hoping to make it stick this time and make a lifestyle change that will lead me to health in 2014.

So I am not new to Sparkpeople, fitness or weight loss. Last year I got married and leading up to the wedding did great. Since the wedding I have fallen off the tracks and I am looking to get back into it. So today I committed to tracking my food and starting to workout consistently(which has been a struggle). So far so good I have logged all my food, water and snacks and blocked off an hour after work for me. I would like to lose about 30lbs but I am more focused on getting healthier and being fit.

Hi, I am coming back to Sparkpeople from last year...my problem is staying motivated & logging my food & fitness on a regular basis...I did it for two weeks last year and dropped off even tho I continued to workout. My workouts stopped in mid-September last year & with the HORRIBLE winter I haven't even been walking the dogs! So now its back to it & trying to set attainable goals so I will continue with my workouts. Dieting is very difficult for me cuz I am always hungry so for me it is truly "Die, with a T".

Hello everyone, I'm a part-time. intake specialist in the medical field. This winter weather has really gotten me out of my routine. In 2011 i started walking and watching what I ate and lost 40+ lbs.so i love the outside and walking is great for my body type(pear-shape).its been really cold here in NC and the spring weather is really dragging.so im coming here for support and friendly chats to get me moving again.hopefully I will find a walking partner who lives near.

I have been over weight most of my adult life. my love for cooking and socializing has made it a little challenging no more excuses: I'm 41 now and over 40 pounds.
Since I've been tracking my food and being careful what I eat i have lost 11 lbs.in a few weeks.ready to get out and walk! my short term goal is to jog a mile and then run a mile.
Im friendy so please feel free to add me as a pal here:)

Best of luck!

Hello everyone, I'm a Stay at Home Mom of two and I work from home part-time. You would think I have all the time in the world to fit in exercising but I don't even think about it with my busy schedule. I also do volunteer work so when I finally have time to myself I sit on the couch to watch T.V.

I started gaining weight in my 20's after I found out that I had knee problems. So my adult life I've been overweight. I made a lot of excuses: "My husband loves me for who I am", " I don't have to impress anyone", " I have plenty of time" or my denial thought " I'm not that big".

I'm 46 now and over 35 pounds. I still look in the mirror and think I'm not that big....until I get a side view....what who is that whole other person behind me!

I recent bought a 40 pound box of litter and I could not lift the box. (See my first blog) That was during my first week of my journey and the light bulb went off. That's about the some amount of extra weight I'm carrying everyday.

Since then I've been tracking my food and being careful what I eat. Just completed my 3rd week and I've lost a couple of pounds until now. I had a minor set back this past weekend (See my week 3 blog) but I know that I have to take this one day a time. Still not making time for exercising but I have a few ideas: Just Dance wii game and strength training. Thanks for letting share.

P.S I should add I have not told my husband or my kids that I'm this journey. I need to prove it to myself first so having this site to blog and share on team pages is helpful for my soul.

Hi Everyone!
I have been up and down for a few years and this battle with eating healthy and exercise is one that I have not been able to get a handle on. However, I have been put into a position where I have some really exciting doors that might just open and I am going to need all of the energy and health and strength I can get in order to go through those doors. I have renewed motivation that I can do this with some help from some spark friends' encouragement. I wonder, will you allow me to start anew and reintroduce myself?

My name is Priscilla and my goal is to lose 30 pounds. I have lost and gained weight the last 15 years; and now I can no longer remember my 'skinny' days. I eat like I am 20 years old, but I am nearly 45. I sure feel young, but my body doesn't think so. It's time for me to reconcile the two and now is a great time to start. I am here for support and some accountability to my goals.

Hello,

My name is Stacy. I am hoping to lose weight and to become healthier and more energetic. I have a very supportive husband, I am a mother of four, work a full-time job, and am trying to finish up my BA degree. I have been steadily gaining weight, and feel crumby. Honestly, I feel more than crumby and have absolutely no energy. Any help, support, or encouragement would be greatly appreciated. My start date is tomorrow, I am hoping to have my profile and goals set-up by then.

~Stacy

I am a 40-year old male, 5'9" tall, that currently weighs 245 lbs.

I want to reach a goal weight of 180 lbs. and have a hard time seeing any results.

My goal is to find out what cardio and strength training exercises, how frequently to do them, when to do them, and what quantities will actually result in weight loss.

Hello! I have been struggling for years with balancing my weight and energy levels due to low thyroid. In 2012 I lost 30 lbs following a diet that was mostly raw/paleo. In spring of 2013 the doctor reduced my meds which caused me to regain half that weight even though I had not changed how I ate. I grew steadily weaker and more fatigued through the remainder of 2013. I recently switched to an endocrinologist to get my hormones balanced and have decided to switch to a whole foods, plant based diet to get my health restored. I also used to struggle with anemia so I would suggest you consider your cycle to see if that might be a cause. With each pregnancy I ended up with heavier cycles. My body could not reproduce what I needed in between, so a simple procedure remedied that and that has not been a problem since. My most recent struggle has been with arthritis in my neck so I am so ready for this to change. I mostly hope to learn some tasty recipes and cooking methods. I was not raised on a diet that consisted of a lot of vegetables so considering my diet change, I really need to learn some variety or this won't work. LOL. Nice to meet all of you!

Hi Kim, I'm also anemic, and have been for quite some time (8-10) years... have been keeping it in check with Iron supplements, but am now on a heavier dose (Feramax 150mg) seems to be helping. I'm also finding the weight loss slow, but steady if I stay away from processed foods... I also find if I'm eating "healthy, whole foods" I feel more energetic, cheerful, and the weigh comes off more steady (just not fast unfortunately) Im trying to swim 3 times a week, walk the dog every day, yoga twice a week and hoping to add a weigh training regime soon.... It sounds like a lot, but it helps me feel more energetic.. the less I do, the less I want to do... anyone else like this? Also, if I'm inactive, I can't sleep very well, which means the next day, I'm cranky, tired and likely to eat all crappy food to make myself feel better... vicious circle indeed. So.. I fit in the exercise and fall into bed tired and happy. Have a great day everyone!

Remember, all you have is all you are

Hello . my name is Kim but my nickname is sapphire because that is my birthstone.. like you I am new to the community ( just joined today in fact) and I am also new to weight gain that I can not explain because for years I was able to maintain my feel good weight of 145-155 pounds and I say feel good weight because it seemed that I was feeling my best n not looking to shabby when I was within that weight range but now I can feel the weight gain in more ways then one n see it very good in my belly n my fanny.... and while I may not look to rough I feel rough.. I found out a couple of months back that I was anemic and my doc recommended iron n a multi vitamin to help me feel better n so I have started doing that... but I am having a hard time getting back down to my feel good weight even thou I have been trying everything so I know what you are saying when you say the weight won't seem to go away... I try to eat better but maybe I am waiting the wrong foods for my type ( being anemic and all) so I have just decided to look up online foods that anemic a should be getting a lot of and a lot less of.. but I am asking you or anyone if anyone would be willing to go along with me ( via online and here on spark as well and just form a little support group for each of us trying to lose weight... for example share tips and ideas with each other) via the net and then keep notebooks where we write down the ideas and tips and of course share what worked or what didn't work. Anyone interested? I hope this idea is ok with spark

Hello Kim my name is also Kim.... I am 45 years old, married, two grown son's both engaged and I am not feeling to great about myself at the moment because I have gained weight... I use to have the energy to go go go but now it seems I barely have any left as if my energy has all but gone away.. I do bowl and walk my little dog almost everyday so I am moving just not able to go like I use to and its really bothering me... I found out that I am anemic a couple months ago and so I have started taking iron n a multi vitamin as recommended by my doctor and I have also started snacking on fruits n veggies( which is another attempt by me to get healthy but I am still not sure what else to do where food choices are concerned).. but you wrote that you have been down this road before.... was it a losing weight or general getting healthier ? I want to do both so if you or anyone have any ideas how I can get started it would be greatly appreciated... as I said I do walk n bowl so I do move.. should I add weights? Or walk further? Or take up bike riding? Thanks for your time

I am new to this team, and new to being overweight and trying to lose. When I hit my late 30's, I started to gain a little at a time. Now I am 42, and almost 40 pounds overweight. I don't know what happened, and no matter what I do, the weight won't seem to go away. I never had to watch my weight in the past, so I have no idea how to do it.

Jane, can you make a standing date with a friend for a walk, right after work, or at lunch...I have found that if someone else is involved I am more inclined to make the effort...eventually I will realize (and so will you ) that it feels good and gives you more energy and one day you'll find that even tho your friend couldn't make it, you're still out there walking on your own...good on us!
Bailey, LOL aliens!! They came to my place in my mid forties too!! LOL!! When they make it to your house to put you back, can you send them my way afterwards?

Hi there - I've been on SP before but didn't really follow through. That said I'm down to about 30 lbs left to lose from about 140 - so I need to get my butt in gear and get going!! I'm almost six feet tall and weigh about 222 - Really if I ever get down below 200, I'll be a happy camper - which to many, may not seem like much - but to me - would be everything! I need to start drinking more water and making myself go out and exercise more...energy is an issue - I just can't seem to motivate myself once I'm home from work - I'm exhausted - I just can't seem to get my butt in gear.... - I'm a mom of 2 and a middle school teacher - needing to be healthier...

Thanks for being here
Jane

I'm with you Tekibee1 "Let's do this"!
I'm 45 yrs old and 187 lbs. It seems to me that one morning I woke up and found myself in this body LOL...maybe aliens abducted me since I certainly don't remember putting on this weight...and as far as my mind is concerned they must of aged me 20 years too!!! I've been waiting for them to return so they could restore me to the slim fit gal I remember....but until then I guess I'll try to eat better and exercise and I'm sure I'm going to need a lot of encouragement and support to accomplish this so here's to all my fellow sparks...
Let's do this together!

Good morning everyone, I am returning to spark after a couple years. I have officially entered menopause and suddenly all my weight is sitting around my midsection and upper thighs...this is new! I have always been overweight but it's been evenly distributed, not anymore! It also seems harder to lose, and I have major cravings (junk food) and mood swings! Hooray! My doctor tells me that if I stick to a healthy diet, a lot of the symptoms will lessen in severity...I think I should probably lose about 40lbs, but am going to start with 10 anyway. I have a small gardening business, love to paint, hike,read,knit,yoga....but not as much now with this tire around my belly, it makes everything harder. So, for now I would like to say goodbye to the 180's, Cheers all, let's do this! T.

Hello everyone, I am 47 with a wonderful husband and two grown boys and two little grand kiddos that keep me busy. I work in the public school system with high needs children. I am also very involved with my church and have a personal relationship with Christ. I have been down this road once before and have had great success so I know it works. I also know when you stop doing what works it stops working! Lets do this!

Hi my name is Sharon. I'm 47, have 4 kids from 19 to 11. I work fulltime outside the home. Now that the kids are older I have started thinking about myself somewhat, and decided I need to start the better health journey. The kids are health and nutrition conscience, and are great motivator(without even trying). I would like to lose 30-35 pounds, but 10 would look good off me too. So I will start with the smaller goal of 10 and then keep going. I am pretty sedentary most of the day, and as soon as the weather warms a little I will start walking after work. I also smoke and would like to quit that as it would make the walking easier, am cutting back but haven't set a quit date yet.
Best wishes to you all.

One day at a time.

Hey everyone! I am very excited to be a part of Spark People!! It is very good for me to be accountable - even if it's a computer :) I am a 42 year old, mother of 3, living in Texas - we have a small farm. I enjoy gardening, quilting, researching genealogy, reading, and playing with our animals. We home school so it offers a lot of time to be outside. I look forward to hearing how we all lose weight and get healthy!!

Hi there....day 1 for me rejoining Spark after several years of absence. I really let myself get out of shape this time. I am now 162 pounds vs. where I would like to be at 127 pounds. Lots of life challenges including a difficult pregnancy....but also many beautiful things in my life like my children. Emotions drive my eating...controlling these will be key to my success. I am a pescatarian and know how to eat well if stress and mood problems don't get in the way. I cannot find time to exercise between work and kids. How do you manage? Looking forward to the community and support on Spark. Good luck everyone :)

It's never too late. I will be true to myself.

Hello team. My name is Angela and I have 30 pounds to lose. I have been tracking food and my protein intake has been good, but it looks like I need more good carbs and fats. This is difficult for me as I have had surgery and should be limiting carbs and fats. I have three young adults I am proud to call my children. I want to set a good example for them about accomplishing goals through action steps, and being a part of this team is an action I am happy to take!

Hi...I am a 44 year old single mother of 3 teenage boys ages 13, 15, and 16. This is hard for me because I have been in eating disorder treatment twice in my life...once for anorexia nervosa and once for bulimia...so I do know right from wrong, however I always seem to put my boys first and me last...hence my weight creeping up to over 200 lbs. again. It is hard for me to do any hard core exercise because of a car accident I was in years ago, so all I can do for exercise is pretty much walk. I do not eat on a regular basis, and I do know that is wrong and makes things worse...to top it off, I am a nurse. I guess I am looking for team support and encouragement as I enter this battle in my life again...I am hoping I can find it here. Nice to meet all of you!

Hello,

I am back on Spark after loosing nearly 60 lbs in time for my wedding in October of 2011. Afterwards I let my new job and 'life' get in the way and be the excuse for not sticking with my new life plan. NO more...I call this chapter of my life Part 2. Two active kids and a wonderful supportive husband keep me motivated.

I started again mid-January and feel so empowered and in control with the tracking tools. I loved participating in the community chats so this is my official return.

Good lock to all.

I joined in February, but am finally getting around to finding my way on this site. It is difficult for me to find time, but I will check in when I can. (I am a caregiver for my sister who has had two brain surgeries and is having a third one next week. I also work overnights.) I have recently managed to work in 15-20 minutes of yoga before bed each day and I try to walk daily although sometimes the only walking I get is thanks to the dog (she likes to stop a lot, but that kind of walk is better than no walk!).

Hi there,
I've never been here before and am amazed by all the resources. I am way closer to 50 than I realized (lol) but am committing to a major change. Hubby and I have a day number 1 plan and it includes eating better and moving more. Going to check out the trackers next. Two big dogs and 3 kids all off at school, both of us with sedentary jobs and need a big kick in the rear. Excited to be here. Want to make this a real change. Have had a lot of false starts over the years.

Looking forward to learning more and taking advantage of this supportive community,

Hi all: I'm here again after a few years, and just set up a new account for a fresh start. I want to be fit and healthy when I am 50. I have a few years to get there, but my goal is to be well on the way by September.

Big love,

Hi everyone... I had NO idea how many options are available via SP. To be honest, I'm a little overwhelmed right now. I signed up a few days ago and then didn't get back to create my page until yesterday. My main struggle right now is knowing what I need to do and what my goals are but being super resistant to taking the first step. I think my lifelong weight problem coupled with my inconsistent activity pattern has become so entrenched that creating something new feels foreign. So I think my first step is getting my head in the game. I'm taking small steps toward healthier lifestyle. Suggestions are welcome and appreciated!

Hello all. I am here to lose the baby weight. I had my first in December 2011 and gained 90 pounds (good grief). I lost 50 of that, then got pregnant again and gained another 40 pounds. I had my son in September 2013. The two close pregnancies with all that weight gain have sort of sent my world spinning. Don't get me wrong, I love being a mother and didn't think I would ever get the honor, but now that things are settling out of the new born phase I feel like I need to get back under control. I am must having a hard time doing that. I have an immense sense of guilt when I take any time for myself, and I need to get a grip. Working full time with two kids and running myself into the ground with no exercise and bad food choices is no longer acceptable. I always said I wouldn't be the fat mom, and yet here I am. So if anyone has any suggestions or support my ears are wide open!! I really struggle lately trying to figure all of this out, and I tend to be incredibly hard on myself when I am not an instant success. I don't know, little down today and just rambling now :)

I am new to Spark People. I have tried to lose weight for a long time now and I've not been successful. I have spent a lot of money trying to lose weight. I'm really hoping this will work. I am in my 40s and have about 43lbs to lose. I have been exercising but not everyday. I started my MBA and writing my paper for my class takes a lot of my time. I'm actually cheating on time right now by finding this website. Event though I've been trying for a long time to lose weight, I haven't given up. I'm really hoping to be successful this time.

Hello. I am 42, soon to be 43 on the 22nd of this month.
I am happy to be back. I was a spark member about 7 years ago. I left after I started WW. I am back because this is a great program/site and I feel like I can get everything I need here for free. I did loose weight on WW but it has slowly come back. I am going thru early menopause and I am struggling more than ever to stay active and motivated. I am looking forward to getting that motivation back.

Hi! Just celebrated my 42nd bday on Friday and I'm here because I owe myself the gift of good health! I'm a comfort/boredom eater who craves carbs and sugars. I've also given myself a 30 day exercise challenge...I'm 4 days in!

I'm looking forward to lower blood sugars, lower blood pressure and looser-fitting clothes.

Nice to meet you all!

I know how it is with the food and having access to it and being challenging I work at a fast food restaurant and it's tough not to sneak a french fry when the boss isn't looking and that can add on weight too. wish you the best on your journey. emoticon

Hi
My name is Denise and I'm new to this team. My goal is to live a healthier life style, By putting God first and making little changes along the way. I work a part time job, I attend church, read the bible, go to bible study, and trying to help my teenaged son through High School. I'm about to be a Grand Mother for the first time in April. I relise that I can't change over night, I am a work in progress. So for I have worked on more water, exercise, and not eating fast food. ( I work at a fast food restaurant ). I've been keeping aware of the things I've been doing although I need to practice journaling but that will come in time. Like I said I'm a work in progess emoticon

Good morning! I am Jennifer and this is my first time posting anything on a team page. I'm a married mom of 4 and I work full time outside the home. I have lots of weight to lose, but I'm looking at it as a forever change to a healthier lifestyle. I know it's Super Bowl Sunday and I just want to encourage everyone to stay on track. Create a plan that includes healthy and rightly-portioned snacks and meals and stick to that plan! You are all working so hard to lose weight - it will feel great tomorrow when you know you've stuck to your plan today!!!! You can do it!!

Hi there,
I am back on spark I love this site. I had fallen off track quite awhile ago but chose to get back on track and I know spark is the place to be.
My goal is to lose the extra pounds I have gained over the past year and learn to live a healthy lifestyle.
I have joined a healthy living challenge at work and have a team with 7 other co-workers it just happened to come at the right time my team mates are great but I wanted something to keep track of my everyday eating and exercise so of course I chose spark.
I plan on being as active as possible on here to give and receive support as much as possible.
Part of my biggest problem that I struggle with is night time cravings, I have been staying away from all the pop and chips this week I refuse to buy them which helps a lot but I still have that feeling of wanting to munch. I guess one other issue right now is I work different shifts so this week I finish work at 9 pm and its almost a habit programmed into my brain that when I go home I need to make supper even though I had my supper at work at 5 pm. So I go through that hunger feeling at 9:30- 10:00pm. When I work the early shift I am home by 4:30 have supper about 5:00-5:30 then by 8:00 pm I get cravings so Those are my biggest struggles right now I will work on maybe breaking up my meals to small meals and eat more often maybe that will help. Any other suggestions? I welcome all your ideas
I am looking forward to chatting to you all

Thank you

Lauretta

Hi all! I am back on the Sparkpeople bandwagon again and couldn't be more pleased. I realized that when I do not use the nutrition tracker to actually see how many calories I am taking in I don't lose as much weight .

As you stated, I also have been a part of Spark before, but never really felt connected to anyone (even though I "joined" teams). But, this time, I am determined. Maybe, we can help each other stay motivated. I must admit this week has been tough but I am staying strong. My cat, Harry, that we have had for 14 years passed away suddenly. We made it through that and then my man lost a front tooth due to an injury which well equate to many appointments and MONEY. But, I will make sure I stay focused on my well being. I will continue to stay in contact.

I am a 41 year old, wife and mother of 3 grown children, from Iowa. I have been on spark before and lost weight and then gained it back again. I have never gotten involved in any spark teams or pages and I'm hoping that by getting involved I will actually succeed this time. I start off strong and then lose momentum. I have decided to sign up for challenges this summer to help keep me motivated. I am going to try a Gladiator Assault Challenge this year. I'm also going to run a few 5k's and try to build back up to running a 1/2 marathon again. I am a daycare provider and so I have access to food all day which makes losing weight more challenging.

I have wandered in and out of here for a couple of years and now I need to stick with it and shed those obstinate 20 lbs. I work from home so I plan on keeping away from the fridge and working out with the JM 30 Day Shred (10 days in) and about 12 miles a week doing a brisk walk/run. I have been going to they gym 3x a week for two years and just got so bored with the routine that I cancelled my membership. My biggest challenge is going to be avoiding my kids' snacks since I'm home all day.
