Hi, I'm Johnda. I've been a member of SparkPeople for 2 years now. I have lost 20lbs so far. I would like to lose another 15 lbs. but I have stalled out. I walk at least 30 min. a day, so I'm hoping if I add something new to my routine. It will help.

I've have not participated with any other group. So I'm hoping a little bit of motivation will help me.

Hi Trilled2try, welcome to the healthy life style here at Sparkpeople. emoticon
I understand the family life things very well. But maybe some mama-time can become quality time for you now. For example use all sorts of home video's and start working out for several short times. You see that you will feel good in the meantime, use a schedule for yourself, mornings evenings or so. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
You feel better and then when you are enjoying this lifestyle, then start focusing on your eating habits. For instance, drink more water, next step: eat more fibre, vegetables/fruit, next step: fill in the Track you Food and see of what to eat more or what less.
And then enjoy this lifestyle step by step making little changes. You will get lots of support here. trust me, everything will fall at its place.
Maybe I will ask you also things you can teach me and so you can support me. Success and keep up the good trying spirit, your name already inspire us here!!!. emoticon

I can totally relate. Two teenage boys and a husband that eats like one means that I can't keep enough good stuff in the house! Don't get me wrong. I love that they all eat their veggies but there's not a whole lot left over. To the crackers and other carbs I go!

I'm new to this whole thing and am looking to support and get support from those who are going through the same thing. Need to lose weight so all those cute clothes I bought a year or two ago can fit again. Tired of that waistline pinching on my pants : )

Hi, I am 47. Yesterday I took a long walk to the supermarket and felt good for doing this.
As I came home I was very motivated to join Sparkpeople, found it by accident on the internet.!! Anyhow, something good happened these 24 hours since I joined:
I see losing weight as something that is touchable, approachable. I am not alone now, I have all of you on this forum !!
My winter depression from 2 days ago fainted, today I got 2 phonecalls as a reply to my jobhunting. Next week I must focus on these 2 job interviews and I hope for the best.
What I want to say is I see perspectives now and feel great. That's not all, also in my family everything looks brighter than it was.
Just trying to live healthier can lead you to soo much more good I did not imagined.
Success to you all and I keep up the futher outcome soon.

All roads lead to Rome.

Hi! I'm 42 and have been overweight since my early 30s. This has cost me a lot in terms of lack of self-confidence and my social life, which has been almost non-existent. No wonder I'm single.
I feel very enthusiastic about this community and hope to make to most of it. All I want to lose are 7kg (around 15 lb) which are not that many, but I just don't seem to be able to stop binge eating (the toll of loneliness, maybe??)
This might be the right time for me to find a new balance in life, because my overall fitness level is improving and I have just started running as well. Besides, being a vegan should make it easier to keep unhealthy urges at bay. After all, I know only too well that those cravings are self-harming urges and have nothing to do with healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.
We'll see.

Nice to meet you all ;)

Hi, My name is Tammy I am 43 with 4 kids ages 21,20,17&12 and of course my husband who is the biggest kid. I have focused my time on everyone else and forgotten how to take care of me. When I look into the mirror I am disgusted all I see is jello and cottage cheese. I recently started back to college and am trying to work on me! Somehow in the last 23 years I lost me and want to find myself. I would like to lose 20lbs put more than lose weight I would like to firm up. I need help with working out. i need something that isn't time consuming but works.

Hi Karen, My name is Bev I am 49 and I have two daughters and two grandchildren. I understand what you are saying about it being just you. My kids are grown and gone and my grandchildren do not live with me. I live with my man though and he loves junk food. Here are a few things I do to help myself stay on track. I buy him doritos and buy myself pretzel sticks, I buy him ice cream and myself fatfree fudge bars "fudge bars" really help with the chocolate craving. If I cut up a fruit or veggie tray and put it in the fridge I am lucky to get any of it if my man finds it LOL The same thing used to happen when my girls were teenagers and lived with me. The funny thing is if I left those items in their containers uncut they were sure to just spoil but if I cut them up and put them on a tray well you know the rest. Alot of this is just about portion size and food substitutes "you know" pretzels instead of chips when you are craving salty. I hope this helps.
Bev

Hey folks, 40 something, lifting loving guy looking to rejuvenate stalled workout routine. I haven't gained weight in the last 5 years but want to build lean muscle and get rid of fat around my gut. Losing 15 pounds seems reasonable though I am not hung up on it. I don't much credence weight loss (rather than fat loss/waist loss) so I will review the target in a couple of months and see where it goes.

I'm glad to be here: sparkpeople is helping me get my mojo back :D

Cheers!

I'm wanting to lose 15-20 pounds. I've slowly gained all this weight back over the last year and a half and I'm feeling kinda sorry for myself since then. I know I'm the only one that can change that but I'm hoping to have some extra motivation from others who are in this same boat.

Hi everyone! I have been working hard on my weight loss since the beginning of the year. I have done well, but now I have been dancing with the same extra 12 pounds all summer. Up a little. Down a little. Itís very frustrating as the scale moved so nicely in the beginning. I have not participated with any of the groups online. I have only used the site for tracking. I am hoping to find a little motivation here to drop those last stubborn pounds!

Hi Everyone. I've actually been on and off sparkpeople for a few years and amazingly trying to lose the last same 10 pounds over again. They are stubborn pounds. It's not like I'm trying to get to the bottom of my weight range either.

I'm going to give this another try. Be more active with the groups and site until those last 10 stubborn pounds come off and stay off for more than a year. It's just as tough maybe even more challenging to keep the weight off.

I exercise regularly but I'm bad with snacking. I will snack way above my calorie limit to a point where I'm just maintaining my weight. Hopefully with logging in regularly, I'll be able to stay on track more.

:)

Hi everyone! I want to lose 10-15 lbs over the next several months. Weight's been slowly creeping up on me and I've decided it's time to reign it in. I joined SP about a month ago and I find it really interesting to track my food. It really helps me control my snacking, this whole writing it down business. As someone else mentioned, I don't eat it because I don't want to see it on here!

Hello,
I'm here because I realized I need to get serious about my health and I don't really have anyone to crack the whip. I'm guilty of paying for a gym membership the past 6 months and haven't used it yet. That's the first time I've admitted it kind of publicly. I want to get back in shape before I hit 50.
Hope I can make it!

Hi there. I was shocked to discover the other day that I am 44. (Seriously, somewhere along the line I lost track this year -- probably from focusing so much on my family and forgetting about myself.) But I realized that is probably why my weight has gotten so out of control.

I used to be really active on this website a few years ago and had gotten myself down to the best shape of my life. But then life itself kind of got in the way and slowly but surely, the weight came back. I went back to work, moved, and the kids got super active at school. I am now at my highest weight ever and find that it is affecting my ability to enjoy life because I just don't feel good about myself.

Soooo... time to take control back. I could use a partner to help with motivation. Looking to lose about 20 pounds. No short cuts planned: menu planning, food tracking, regular exercise, and a lot of persistence. Care to join me?

Hi today is my first day to Spark. I hope I am writing in the correct Forum and Topic?? I'm 47 and have gained 20 pounds over the last 4 years. My goal weight would be 130 lbs. I have very low self-esteem because of this extra weight and I'm tired of feeling insecure and tired. I have been walking and recently started walking and running 2 miles. I'm taking baby steps because I have lower back issues. I always seem to start off very well then something like back pain kicks me down. I also need to eat better. I eat all the good things but I have been adding bad things also. I would like to be a size 6 by the end of November. My long term goals are to workout 2 hrs a day cardo and weights and eat healthy all week.

Love yourself.

Hi! I am new to SparkPeople. I am 48 years old and have been overweight most of my life. Last year, I was on a great path to fitness - working out regularly and having the weight melting away when I found out my husband of 28 years had cheated on me. We decided to stay together and work on our marriage, but it put me on a path of self destruction. My self esteem is at an all time low, but I am determined to get back of making better choices for myself. My goal is to lose 23 pounds in 12 weeks.
I am determined to find the inner strength to take on this challenge. I look forward to doing it together with you.

Welcome new team members! I am relatively new to the group and I can tell you that folks have been quite nice.

KBUDDEN - Your history sounds much like mine. We are the same age and I too lost 25lbs on WW only to lose my focus and find them again. You are in a supportive arena. The tracking device is very helpful for me. I wish you well.

JOYMAD - Your 70lb loss is fantastic! WTG, lady. I hope that you find the tools that you need to continue your healthy streak. Welcome.

GABBYBONITA - I love the 40s, though they are another decade of change. You are wise to recognize the importance of establishing and maintaining healthy habits. Best wishes.

Hello,

Close to 40. Getting ready, I have heard things and nightmares about gaining weight and all of that. I have always been up and down the scale. I joined Sparkpeople years ago, back and forth and trying to keep it off. I would like to loose those 15lbs that keep coming up and down, but keep them down for good as I get ready for my 40's. Overall; I want to stay healthy!

Divine love guides me in all my decisions. I am wise and confident.

Hi! I'm 43 years. A few years ago, I lost 25 lbs using weight watchers. Unfortunately, I found those pounds again. Now older and wiser, I'm hoping to use sparkpeople to lose those 25 lbs again and this time keep them off. I've been a yo-yo exerciser. I'm great at working out when I'm in diet mode. I have worked out 4 days in a row since starting Sparkpeople. I'm trying everyday to say this is a life style change and that many years from now I will still maintain a healthy weight and continue to exercise.

Hi, all -

Not sure how much weight I want to lose, but probably around 15-20 more pounds. Have lost 70 so far. Recently re-discovered SparkPeople while searching for inspiration and ideas for breaking through a stubborn plateau and getting to the finish line (and beyond).

Hey GOSHELLLY, welcome to the group. The best advice that I would give is to make small, sustainable steps. It's sometimes hard to do that because we often want to see results quickly, but if we want to be healthy for life the choices that we make need to be sustained for the long haul. So start by tracking what you eat in the nutrition section, perhaps. I call that my "come to Jesus," because I make sure that I own up to everything I eat. When you see what's going in you'll be able to identify culprits that are hindering a healthy weight loss. When you have then process down then move onto the next. Best wishes and I look forward to seeing you on the boards!

I'm new to this team, but have been on SparkPeople for many years. I was at my goal weight once and let life get in my way and now I weigh more than ever. But, I can't live in the past. My circumstances are different now and I need to move forward. I look forward to getting to know some new friends.

I'm new to Spark people. I'm 40 and have gotten off track over the last year or so. I have 23 pounds to lose. In 2011 I lost almost 30 pounds and have since gained it all back. I hit some bumps in the road in my life and allowed myself to start some old bad habits. I know I can do this. I've done it before. This time, I want do make it last! I look forward to taking this journey with all of you. emoticon

Hello everyone,
I have been a SP member since 2011, but have been pretty focused since August 2012. I have lost 48 pounds and would like to lose another 15 or so. I am 49 years old in July and am finding it almost impossible to drop the last few pounds. I am logging and weighing my food and I work out (aerobics and circuit training) for approx 30-40 mins about 4 days a week. I also have a Fitbit and I try to get in at least 10000 steps a day. I try to eat at the low end of my calorie allowance everyday, but to shake things up I eat at the mid to higher end of my cals two days a week (Calorie Cycling).
I eat clean and don't eat too many processed foods. But I am lucky to lose a pound a month! The only thing I can think it might be, are the couple glasses of wine I have each weekend, however I count them in my daily calorie allowance.
Whatever the case, I thought maybe sharing with others in my age group who are struggling like I am might help my morale.I just try to see and focus on my accomplishments and keep plugging away at losing my remaining weight!

Hi, my name is Yesenia and I am hoping to lose 25 lbs. My commute to and from work is close to 2 hours each way, so trying to squeeze in an exercise routine can be challenging. Any suggestions?

New to this group.

12 lbs down and 24 to go.

Hello. I have been on Spark for a few months now. I have lost 18 pounds so far and I have 13 to go to reach my goal of 135. I am starting to loose my motivation and need someone to give me a kick in the pants or something? I have completed 2 challenges the first was with my Joining Class and the second was a Spring 5% Challenge (I lost weight just not 5%).

Hello, I have been on Spark for two months, but I just recently joined the message forum. I have been doing the DDPyoga and stationary bike for two months and I have notice progress. I needed something to keep me accountable and this is the place for me. Before I eat something, I think twice about the calories. I have already lost 6 lbs and my goal is to reach 125. I hope to reach my goal by October. I figure slow and steady is the best way. Hope to hear from you guys!

Hi everyone I'm new to the message board and would like to introduce myself. I'm 43 yrs old and have lost 8lbs and would like to lose 10lbs more. I work shift work and find it hard to have a routine I have no set times to eat, exercise and sleep. I am joining this group for support to help me break my bad habits and get healthy tips and ideas and for motivation.

Hi Kelley and everyone else. My name is Stephen and I'm hoping that by adding power yoga to my routine on my non-run days will help with what's here around the middle. I'm also starting a program to build from running a 5K to a 10K, with hopes of actually signing up for one this fall after I complete the program.

Hi.. my name is Kelley. I have used sparkpeople a few years ago, and it was great and very motivating, however it's been a long time and I'm in need of a serious kick in the butt! I'll be 40 this year and need to lose between 15-20 lbs. I'm pretty new to message boards and trying to figure those out. I look forward to this journey and progress!

Hi, everyone! I'm Terri - 45 and have been holding 15 lbs around my middle for the last three years. I am so sick of it! I seem to lose 5 lbs, plateau, gain it back... start all over again. Ugh!

I'm a school psychologist during the day - crazy busy mom to two energetic boys - wife to my hubby - just all around busy person! I keep saying that I'm going to take up juggling this summer. LOL!

I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better.

Hi everyone,
I'm a previous user of Sparkpeople, and after the last year or so of my some minor health issues and bad eating I felt I needed to come back. Sparkpeople helped me in the past, so I'm back.

I'm 48, and finding those extra pounds sneak back on so very easily now....
Really enjoying my first 2 weeks, and I've already lost just on 1kg (2.5 or so lbs).

Looking forward to group posts and all the great tips and tricks people have to keep themselves motivated and on track!

Good morning! Hooray for May. I am Saffron, and I am 44 years old, and don't know that happened. I live in Northern California and am married to my first love. We have two teenage boys who are crazy cool kids. I am ready to really make some life changes. Looking for some encouragement and inspiration. I work at a winery pouring wine in the tasting room, and doing special events, like food and wine pairing, and dinners. It's good work and a whole lot of fun, but hard to keep on track!

I am 42, almost 43 and I really struggle to drop weight. I was at 146 and now I'm down to 141, but it really is a struggle to lose any amount of pounds. I usually just gain them back without eating a lot. I just started to track my food along with exercising to the Jillian Michaels dvd's. I hope that helps some. I really enjoy walking outside. I want to drop about 15 or more pounds. I would really like to have someone who likes to track their food and post on their exercise to help keep me motivated. I need Help!! ( I have always been around 115, and happy. Now not so much)

Welcome to the team, TAMMICOON and CHANGEFORNEWME!

CHANGE - you'll have to experiment with your "kryptonite"; different things work for different people. Some can just have the occasional bite or taste and are fine with that; others find if they have a bite then they just keep going.

Hi! I'm on my first day and finding my way around. I have 16 pounds to lose after losing 116 (4 pounds from goal) and maintaining within a couple pounds of that for more than a year and then regaining 12 over the last few months.

I'm here to find motivation that has sort of fallen away. When I started losing weight, I wasn't living life beyond work or the TV or watching others do things I wished I could do. Now that I've lost much of my weight, weight really isn't keeping me from doing things I want to do.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you and sharing support as we all work towards our goals.

Hi Everyone,

I'm Tami and have been a member here now for 5 days. It takes a while to navigate this web site, there is so much information here. I really need the accountability of this kind of program, and it's nice to be part of this team.

After 5 days following the program I posted a weight loss today. Yea!, But the best thing is I have not had any chocolate in 5 days. Chocolate is my kryptonite. I'm thinking about having a small bite tomorrow so it does not become an obsession. Is that wise or shall I continue a chocolate fast? What have you all found best about your kryptonite?
Actually looking forward to this journey
Tami

Welcome to the team, Clarasmomma and Caper!

Caper, your intro had me giggling a bit, because yes, the 40 year old body is quite...interesting, isn't it? We have to work harder on it. You have a bit more of a challenge trying to keep a schedule like yours, but I know you can do it.

Hi everyone!

I'm new and trying to figure my way around - I posted a message on the boards to say "hi" and introduce myself and someone suggested that joining a team is a great way to meet people and share accomplishments...so here I am.

About me: I'm 43 and struggling. I work a crazy routine: 2 weeks of 12 hour days and 2 weeks off. So I'm dead tired for the 2 weeks at work, but this is when I eat my healthiest and work out the most and the 2 weeks I'm off I'm lazy (because I have myself convinced that I need all the down time and it just snowballs into slothdom. So any progress I make at work - I set it all back when I'm home - which is when I have all kinds of time to work on achieving my goals. Then the thought of it all depresses me and I eat a pizza and drink 3 or 4 glasses of wine...oh yeah...I'm brilliant (didn't I mention that, lol).

I want to tone up - when I was a kid, I was amazed how my grandmother's arms would giggle for ages after she stopped waving, and couldn't imagine how that could happen, but I knew it wouldn't happen to me...well...I'm on my way, and it's grossing me out.

And what's with this belly? I was lucky most of my life, so far. If I noticed a bit of a belly coming on, I'd drink more water for a couple of days and lay off carbs and it would be back to being flat as a pancake. Now: not so much. It will not get any smaller...turning 40 was like flipping a switch and everything just slowed down and expanded.

I'm hoping chatting with you lovely folks will help me stay focused and motivated. I have several bikinis home and I want to look good in at least one of them by July.

I started a 12 week work out program, that seems pretty reasonable - I know I can stick to it at work, it's just getting that damn couch removed from my backside when I'm off that will be a problem.

Looking forward to getting to know you and see how everyone progresses and improves to be their better selves.

Take care for now (sorry for the rambling, long message.)

Hi, my name is Marci and I am brand new to SPARK. I "tried" it for about a day in October, but didn't want to get serious about it. I am at 162 lbs and my goal is 155 lbs. I have 3 kids who are 24, 22 and 14. I am happily married, for almost 29 years. That's me!
