Hi Team,

I'm Norma and I am in Ireland. I am a recently separated Mom of two Teenagers, DS16 & DD14. I have put on about 1st (14lbs) since my separation and don't want to turn into thaat sad depressed person who piles on the weight and stops looking after herself after her marriage breaks up - I wanna be the Hot Chick everyone is envious of even though I am in my 40s!

I have been on SparkPeople before but opened a new account as I feel like I need a totally fresh start.

I started watching my food intake a week ago and am doing well so fat. I am currently 9st 6.2lbs (132.2lbs) and want to get down to 8st (112lbs). My plan is to stick to 1200cal per day and so a min of 30mins exercise per day which will be a challenge on the days I am working as I work 12 hour shifts, hopefully it will be easier now with the bright evenings.

Hey all,

I just joined and I am all in! I am excited to become active in the group. I have a lot of energy and love to motivate others. Let's do this!

I'm positive I can do this
I'm positive I'm making progress
I'm positive because I'm sure of myself
I'm positive because I have a goal!
I'm positive because I know where I am going
I'm positive I'll get there.

Worrying does not empty tomorrow of it's troubles.....it empties today of it's strength...

Hello! I've let bad habits get the best of me, and now I just don't recognize my body anymore. It doesn't help that I'm getting older, but I know that I still have the ability to feel like myself again. I could really use some help with motivation, so I thought that I'd give this site another try! It's nice to meet everyone. :)

Hi everyone - I've used spark people before but it's been awhile, and I can't remember the log in info to my old account. Either way, a new start is always good. My husband and I are starting a whole 30 challenge this week. I'm relatively excited, but a bit scared too. I really LOVE my cheese and crackers. Anyway nice to meet you all!

Even a tiny success is a good success. Never give up!

Hi! I'm new here and I'm trying to get support. I'm 42, work full time at a seat at your desk job. I have two kids, 10 and soon to be 8. At 40, I had a hysterectomy and have gained weight since...20+ pounds so far. The weight gain needs to stop but I love food. I'm amazed at what others have done and wonder why can't I have that motivation? I want to be healthy and get in shape!!

Hi I am Jennifer, I am a 42 year old mom of 3 kids ages 16, 14, and 11, and live in Florida. I used Sparkpeople a few years ago and got to my goal weight (lost 15 lbs) and was successful at keeping it off for a while, but you know how life seems to get in the way....my mom passed away, I got remarried, moved, etc. etc. Anyway, 10 lbs came back and I am determined to get them off!! I have been excercising but unless I consistently keep track of what I'm eating it seems like a no win battle. Especially now being over 40 it seems SO much harder to lose weight and the weight seems to stick to my middle!! I need all the support and encouragement I can get!

Nice to meet you all!

Hi. I'm trying SP to try and get my health and weight back on track. I'm unhappy with what the scale says, how my clothes fit, and how I feel and hope to learn new habits and skills to change that. My biggest challenge is that I love junk food and sweets. I also have two boys in the house who love those things as well. I'm going to need all the help and patience I can get to lose the first 20 lbs I need to lose!

Hello, my weights been yo-yoing over the past couple of years and its my fault basically. I setup an exercise / diet routine, lose weight, feel happy and start partying again. This time however im going to do it slow and steady to drop down to my ideal weight. Need to lose 14 kgs i.e 31 pounds.

Will need the encouragement to go on.

Im Lino and in IT. spend a lot of time in a desk chair or on a couch in front of the tv.

Good afternoon! I'm technically not a new member, but I've been away from Sparkpeople for a while now. My scale and fit of my clothes have been reminding me that I need to get back here. There has been some work stress, home stress, college-shopping stress, and financial stress going on, so it's time to make some changes where I can. This is one of them!

My name is Kelli and I live in Northern Illinois (near the WI border) with my husband and three kids (almost 18 yrs, 13 years and almost 12 yrs).

I'm starting again with the small changes and look forward to stopping in here frequently.

I hope you're all doing well. Talk to you again soon!

Take care,

Kelli

Hi everyone,
I am back on SP for the third try. I am taking a year off work and with my 3 kids back in school this week I am feeling motivated and focused to get back on track. I really want to be able to get back into my clothes as most of my wardrobe is feeling pretty snug right now. My struggles have always been emotional eating. I know all the tricks, I just never put them into practice, hoping instead that the urges would just go away. Wishing all of you success on your journey! If anyone wants to connect to be a buddy, let me know. I could use the encouragement as well!

Hi! I'm 47 and i've been on and off SparkPeople for the last many years and have never seemed to stick with it for one reason or another....

Although I am not majorly overweight (BMI=26), I have entered the Pre-Hypertension category for my Blood Pressure. So I am making myself exercise and lose some weight. My diet is pretty good, so hoping these other two things will help me bring my BP down and managed.

Here's to my 4th try on SparkPeople!

Hello. I am 43 years old, a wife and mother of 3 children ages 22, 16 and 3. I am working on losing the same 20 pounds I regained in the last two years. I know where I went wrong (this is not a diet it is a new way of eating, way of life). This mental attitude has been helping me to achieve my goals.

Hi everyone! I am 47 years old. I have worked with Adults with Autism for 23 years. I lost the weight I wanted to years ago, but put it all back on. I was hit with the Bermuda Triangle of weight gain this past year: I broke my foot on SuperBowl Sunday, so that curtailed my Firm workouts and walking tapes that kept the weight at bay, I took a position that is a desk job, and of course, there is the 40's thing. I found out that my blood pressure, cholesterol, and weight were all higher than they'd ever been. I am on SparkPeople as well as attending WW meetings ( I finally found a leader I connect with). The weight is coming off SLOWLY, but I am learning what my triggers are ( weekends), and I appreciate every ounce that comes off, because WW is definately a different experience this time around- no lie- I have been back at WW for 8 weeks, and I've lost 3 pounds. Know what, though? My clothes fit better. I remind myself to ignore the weight loss things where the "pounds are falling off" and the "fat is melting away"- none of this is happening.

LET'S DO THIS!

Hi Everyone,

I am a 46 year old Mom of 2 pre-teens kids who keep my DH and I really busy. I work full time but also teach fitness classes 2 to 3 times a week. I have gained and lost the same 20 lbs over the years. I have done Weight Watchers and other stupid things to lose weight. The best experience I have had is with a personal health coach and tracking on My Fitness Pal. I came to Spark People for sometime new and the boards look awesome.

I can tell you as a certified fitness instructor who herself exercises 5 to 6 times a week to some pretty intense workouts at the end of the day it is what goes in your mouth that counts for 80% of it. Exercise is great for toning and just keeping yourself younger.

Now that I am over 40 though it seems like I have to work even harder to lose weight. I don't love that fact but keep at it. Great to see so many active members here to help in the process!

Good Evening Everyone!
I'm Lorie and I will be 46 at the beginning of September. I would love to lose 15-20 pounds because I'm short waisted and I feel 99% of those extra pounds are belly fat. Toothpicks stuck into a potato ;) and not fond of a jiggle that's too reminiscent of Santa Claus!
I had real success losing weight 4 years ago doing Jorge Cruise 8 Minutes in the morning as it was also about tracking food intake and building strength. Got to a good weight and then let all the good habits slide.
I got serious about tracking everything and adding workouts into my life once again just this past Tuesday (1 month to a vacation) and have my first real weigh in tomorrow after 5 days (because SparkPeople the weeks start on Sunday?). I don't really know my way around this site yet, as soon as I figure something out it spirals out further! Did manage to post my first blog entry tonight and hopefully I don't have the settings so no one can see it! Talk to you all later...have a great week!

Do they make "Days of the Week" sports bras? ;)

Hi. I'm Jackie. I'm 44, hoping to lose about 20 lbs. I'm trying to get fit and be a good influence on my dh. He needs to lose a lot of weight but he has no willpower. He tends to snack at night and never exercises so sometimes that rubs off on to me. Anyway, I'm hoping to do better and maybe that will encourage him some.

Looking forward to get fit with you.

Hi, I just turned 40 this year. I had previously lost 20 pounds a couple years ago and finally reached my ideal weight. I had done really well with keeping it off until I had a medical condition that landed me in the hospital for 9 days. During that time and the month of recovery after I was really nauseated and could only eat comfort foods. It totally threw me off. I have had a hard time getting back into healthy eating ever since and have let about 12 pounds creep back up on me.

Part of the problem is that even when I do try to eat healthy I don't seem to get anywhere. Before it came off really easily as long as I followed my healthy eating plan. Now I eat healthy for a few weeks and nothing seems to happen, I get frustrated and give up. I blame it partly on a IUD I had put in about 1 1/2 years ago and partly because I am now 40. But sometimes wonder if I might have new issues like thyroid disease. I need to get that checked out.

Anyway I decided to try joining some online weight loss communities to see if that helps motivate me. Hope to get to know a few of you better in the coming weeks.

Hi,
My name is Heidi and I was very happy to find this team. I found SparkPeople a few weeks ago and just fell in love with all the resources (for free!) I am hoping to lose 20 pounds and just went in to join the 10 pounds in 10 weeks challenge, even though I am a few weeks late! At least it will hold me accountable while I began my lifestyle changes. I love exercise so that is not a problem, it is the nutrition and snacking my way through the day! I look forward to meeting everyone.

Hi I 'm Marianne. I'm 41. Stress eating and a desk job are doing me in. Not to mention lots of vacation time at Disney and Vegas adds to my waistline. Need to fit into my favourite skirts again...and not look like I am pregnant :(

Hi everyone, I'm Sarah and live in Wisconsin. I am 44 and have had some major life changes over the past couple of years. In that time, I managed to put back on 13 of the 15 lbs. that I lost about 6 yrs. ago. I would really like to lose 20 lbs. this time around.

Hi. I'm Cristin. I'm a 43 year old mother of two active boys (ages 7 and 8). I'm originally from Portland, Oregon, but my family and I now live in Belgium, about an hour north of Antwerp. Similar to other posts I exercise all the time, at least an hour of cardio or strength-training a day, but the pounds keep piling on. This month I'm determined to create a food plan using the nutritional tracker (around 1500 calories) and stick to it faithfully. If nothing happens, then maybe it's time to seek professional help! I thought about joining Weight Watchers, but since all the meetings are in Dutch, which I still don't speak, I didn't think it would be much help. I've been using Sparkpeople since 2012, but this is the first time I've made a post. Here's to my latest attempt.

Hi, I'm Molly. 46 and live in Portland, OR. I've been tracking on here for a few weeks but I'm not having much success with weight loss and need some extra support. I have 20 pounds to lose. Physical activity isn't a problem. I ride my bike a lot and I'm training for a 100 mile ride. I don't overeat, but don't always make the healthiest choices and that needs to change. I have three young boys and want to be fit and healthy to keep up with them!

Hello Team,

My name is Tonia and I live in Atlanta, GA. I joined SP in Dec and haven't done any thing since. I started a new job at the same time and let that take priority! Now I am back on track! I have 25 pounds to lose and am looking forward to bonding and helping each other get over hurdles and jump fences! Where do I start?

Hello fellow Sparkers! I currently live if the San Francisco Bay area. A week ago I realized I'm 3 months from turning 41, and it's time to start focusing on me instead of work all the time. A self-proclaimed workaholic, I run the restaurants and bars for a hotel... pulling 60+ hours a week surrounded by food and beverage makes it challenging to get in shape. But it's time to focus less on work and more on working out and being 41 in with a bang!
Happy to be here around like minded people with similar goals. :)

Hi, my name is Erin, and I am in southern Oregon.
I turn 42 next month, and have 18 pounds that I'd like to lose. I had a knee surgery in December for torn meniscus, but am back to full duty at my work. (certified nurse assistant).
I have a 13 year old son that is taller than me, who does cross country running, wrestling and baseball. My hubby is retired from the Navy and going to school again.
I need motivation to get back into shape and start eating clean! :)

Hi there! My name is Tammy, and I live in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

I just turned 40 yesterday, and I'm really looking to make some changes in my life. I have used SP in the past (2007-2009) and it worked wonderfully for me. So, I've started a new account and I'm ready to start setting some goals.

Hi everyone! I just turned 40 last August. I have about 30 pounds to lose. I am more concerned with getting healthy and having more energy than losing weight. I was diagnosed with MS 8 years ago and have been on a roller coaster ever since. I use my busy schedule as an excuse for eating poorly and not exercising. Now I see my daughter has fallen into the same bad habits and I want to change them before it's too late.

Hi everyone! Looks like there are several of us who want to find our smaller, healthier selves!

I am a 44 year old wife and mom. This is actually the first time in my life that I have ever tried to lose weight and get healthy. Before, I was blessed with a high metabolism, which seems to have deserted me! I am not doing a diet, but instead am focusing on overall better choices...I now read labels and watch what I am putting in my mouth. In addition, I have joined the gym and attend a BURN class twice a week with friends. I also do exercises at home and at the gym, but am taking it slow and easy. As my husband says: "It took a while to add the weight; don't expect it to leave overnight."

Today is a new day...the possibilities are endless!

I am thankfully able to count myself in this group, and I hope to finish what I started in the 40 somethings with 50-99 pounds to lose a year ago on Jan.12, 2014. I have dropped 67 pounds in a short time, and I will lose the last 23 pounds over the next six months. My goal is to reach maintenance before I celebrate 50 at the end of 2015.

I love the taste of food, but I love the taste of life even better!

Am nearly 48, about 20 pounds overweight, carrying a gut that is shortening and reducing the quality of my life. My extra weight drains my energy, saps my mood and often darkens my day just a little bit at a time. A moment here, a moment there. Getting into or out of the shower or bed, for example. Climbing stairs. Putting on my pants. Tightening my belt. The spring in my step is pretty compressed now, and was getting flatter.

The weight gain has been gradual but progressive over the last ten or so years. I ignored it for several years. I practiced the art of sucking in my gut and wearing clothing that make it less noticeable. I sought to do something about it several times, joined and quit gyms, started and washed out of fitness routines, watched and then ignored what I ate.

I have now come to squarely face my weight issue. Several books have helped (most notably Younger Next Year). I have eliminated other pesky habits that both robbed me of sleep and added weight. Better sleep allows me better clarity. Zenhabits.com has also helped, primarily by helping me to meditate in tiny, bite-sized pieces throughout the day. That gives me a little more clarity. I have always known what to do. Clarity helps me to get around to doing it.

I hope that SparkPeople will also help, by giving me a community of similarly situated people from whom I can learn and with whom I can chat.

Hi, I'm Ann. I've been on SparkPeople for a couple of years now, but have never quite hit goal weight. Had some mojo at one point, but lost it and am hoping that participating in a group like this will help me finally hit goal in 2015! That would mean 24 pounds gone...that would feel so great!

wishing you all a wonderful Friday!

Hi, I'm Johnda. I've been a member of SparkPeople for 2 years now. I have lost 20lbs so far. I would like to lose another 15 lbs. but I have stalled out. I walk at least 30 min. a day, so I'm hoping if I add something new to my routine. It will help.

I've have not participated with any other group. So I'm hoping a little bit of motivation will help me.

Hi Trilled2try, welcome to the healthy life style here at Sparkpeople. emoticon
I understand the family life things very well. But maybe some mama-time can become quality time for you now. For example use all sorts of home video's and start working out for several short times. You see that you will feel good in the meantime, use a schedule for yourself, mornings evenings or so. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon
You feel better and then when you are enjoying this lifestyle, then start focusing on your eating habits. For instance, drink more water, next step: eat more fibre, vegetables/fruit, next step: fill in the Track you Food and see of what to eat more or what less.
And then enjoy this lifestyle step by step making little changes. You will get lots of support here. trust me, everything will fall at its place.
Maybe I will ask you also things you can teach me and so you can support me. Success and keep up the good trying spirit, your name already inspire us here!!!. emoticon

I can totally relate. Two teenage boys and a husband that eats like one means that I can't keep enough good stuff in the house! Don't get me wrong. I love that they all eat their veggies but there's not a whole lot left over. To the crackers and other carbs I go!

I'm new to this whole thing and am looking to support and get support from those who are going through the same thing. Need to lose weight so all those cute clothes I bought a year or two ago can fit again. Tired of that waistline pinching on my pants : )

Hi, I am 47. Yesterday I took a long walk to the supermarket and felt good for doing this.
As I came home I was very motivated to join Sparkpeople, found it by accident on the internet.!! Anyhow, something good happened these 24 hours since I joined:
I see losing weight as something that is touchable, approachable. I am not alone now, I have all of you on this forum !!
My winter depression from 2 days ago fainted, today I got 2 phonecalls as a reply to my jobhunting. Next week I must focus on these 2 job interviews and I hope for the best.
What I want to say is I see perspectives now and feel great. That's not all, also in my family everything looks brighter than it was.
Just trying to live healthier can lead you to soo much more good I did not imagined.
Success to you all and I keep up the futher outcome soon.

Loosing weight is doable, never easy.

Hi! I'm 42 and have been overweight since my early 30s. This has cost me a lot in terms of lack of self-confidence and my social life, which has been almost non-existent. No wonder I'm single.
I feel very enthusiastic about this community and hope to make to most of it. All I want to lose are 7kg (around 15 lb) which are not that many, but I just don't seem to be able to stop binge eating (the toll of loneliness, maybe??)
This might be the right time for me to find a new balance in life, because my overall fitness level is improving and I have just started running as well. Besides, being a vegan should make it easier to keep unhealthy urges at bay. After all, I know only too well that those cravings are self-harming urges and have nothing to do with healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle.
We'll see.

Nice to meet you all ;)

Hi, My name is Tammy I am 43 with 4 kids ages 21,20,17&12 and of course my husband who is the biggest kid. I have focused my time on everyone else and forgotten how to take care of me. When I look into the mirror I am disgusted all I see is jello and cottage cheese. I recently started back to college and am trying to work on me! Somehow in the last 23 years I lost me and want to find myself. I would like to lose 20lbs put more than lose weight I would like to firm up. I need help with working out. i need something that isn't time consuming but works.

Hi Karen, My name is Bev I am 49 and I have two daughters and two grandchildren. I understand what you are saying about it being just you. My kids are grown and gone and my grandchildren do not live with me. I live with my man though and he loves junk food. Here are a few things I do to help myself stay on track. I buy him doritos and buy myself pretzel sticks, I buy him ice cream and myself fatfree fudge bars "fudge bars" really help with the chocolate craving. If I cut up a fruit or veggie tray and put it in the fridge I am lucky to get any of it if my man finds it LOL The same thing used to happen when my girls were teenagers and lived with me. The funny thing is if I left those items in their containers uncut they were sure to just spoil but if I cut them up and put them on a tray well you know the rest. Alot of this is just about portion size and food substitutes "you know" pretzels instead of chips when you are craving salty. I hope this helps.
Bev

Hi, I'm a new member and trying to figure out how all this works. A little overwhelming!
I have been yo-yoing for a while and have a hard time exercising and I keep slipping back into emotional eating bad stuff

Hey folks, 40 something, lifting loving guy looking to rejuvenate stalled workout routine. I haven't gained weight in the last 5 years but want to build lean muscle and get rid of fat around my gut. Losing 15 pounds seems reasonable though I am not hung up on it. I don't much credence weight loss (rather than fat loss/waist loss) so I will review the target in a couple of months and see where it goes.

I'm glad to be here: sparkpeople is helping me get my mojo back :D

Cheers!

I'm wanting to lose 15-20 pounds. I've slowly gained all this weight back over the last year and a half and I'm feeling kinda sorry for myself since then. I know I'm the only one that can change that but I'm hoping to have some extra motivation from others who are in this same boat.

Hi everyone! I have been working hard on my weight loss since the beginning of the year. I have done well, but now I have been dancing with the same extra 12 pounds all summer. Up a little. Down a little. Its very frustrating as the scale moved so nicely in the beginning. I have not participated with any of the groups online. I have only used the site for tracking. I am hoping to find a little motivation here to drop those last stubborn pounds!

Hi Everyone. I've actually been on and off sparkpeople for a few years and amazingly trying to lose the last same 10 pounds over again. They are stubborn pounds. It's not like I'm trying to get to the bottom of my weight range either.

I'm going to give this another try. Be more active with the groups and site until those last 10 stubborn pounds come off and stay off for more than a year. It's just as tough maybe even more challenging to keep the weight off.

I exercise regularly but I'm bad with snacking. I will snack way above my calorie limit to a point where I'm just maintaining my weight. Hopefully with logging in regularly, I'll be able to stay on track more.

:)

Hi everyone, just wanted to introduce myself to the team. I've been away from sparkpeople for a while, but back now for a new beginning and hope to lose 16-20 lbs by the end of the year.

Hi everyone! I want to lose 10-15 lbs over the next several months. Weight's been slowly creeping up on me and I've decided it's time to reign it in. I joined SP about a month ago and I find it really interesting to track my food. It really helps me control my snacking, this whole writing it down business. As someone else mentioned, I don't eat it because I don't want to see it on here!
