Hello. My name is Desiree, and I am married with two children (14, 4). I am 34 years old and was just told by my optometrist during a routine eye exam that I have an elevated optical nerve caused by intracranial hypertension (most likely resulting from complications associated with being obese) and that I would have to see a doctor to correct this condition before I can even get an updated eyeglass prescription. (On a side note: never, and I mean NEVER, have any kind of appointments and/or commitments scheduled on your birthday if you can at all help it! It is so hard to have a good time with your family to celebrate your birthday after you've basically been told your too fat to get a proper eye exam.) So, I either lose weight or this is only the beginning of the medical problems to come. My goal is to be at 185 by my next birthday. I just started tracking what I eat and have begun to excercise (walking on treadmill). I am excited about this online community helping to motivate people to reach their weight loss goals. I am not a support group kinda person. But I think accountability is definitely a good motivator. And that's what I need... motivation! Thank you for reading and I wish good luck... I mean, good will power to everyone!

Many of life's failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.
