Hi, I am new to sparkpeople as of yesterday. Unfortunately, I am not new to dieting. I remember being on my first diet when I was 8 yrs old. That's pretty sad :( Despite many years of dieting, I found myself at my heaviest weight in June 2010. That's when I finally had the Aha moment and decided that diets didn't work for me and that I needed to take a different approach for real weight loss. It could no longer be a diet, it had to be a lifestyle. I lost about 34 pounds fairly quickly just by changing my eating habits and exercising. I ran my first 5K in August 2010 and was amazed at my own self for being able to finish the race. The weight loss really slowed down in September 2010 as that is when we made the move to Germany. I had about a year of no substantial weight loss, but thankfully, was at least able to learn how to maintain and did not give up on trying (I wanted to several times, but some inner motivation just wouldn't let me quit). In January 2012, I decided it was time to go hard core again and get this final 20-30 lbs off once and for all. I have been working really hard and again, results have been very minimal. I decided to join sparkpeople so I could hopefully be able to learn from others' successes, as well as surround myself with the positive cheering squad necessary to keep me motivated and pushing on till I reach my goal. I am very happy to have found this site, however, I am not a very technology minded person, so figuring all this out is going to take me a while. I look forward to being a part of sparkpeople and all the positive relationships that will be built in this hopefully final phase of my weight loss journey :)
