Welcome to the team Jamie! It's great to have you joining us!

I totally feel you on being too young to feel this old. I was going for physical therapy for my back. For every degree of movement my therapist had me to, there was a quantifiable amount of creaks and cracks to go with it. She'd ask if I was okay to go on and my only response was is this is way better than normal. Kinda scary when you're used to something that worries the medical professionals.

Yeah, "because the doc said" isn't really a good reason for weight loss. You have to do it for you. Because you want to better. Not to live up to someone else's standards. But you're right about him only looking out for your best interests. But just keep it in your head that you're doing it for yourself and no one else.

I'm Jamie and I'm 29. I live in north eastern Florida. I'm really not dead set on a weight loss goal, but my doc said "at least 50 pounds" which is why I'm here. At the moment, I have no idea how I'm going to do that. Just because the doc said isn't a very good reason, though the reasons for his recommendation are real. I would love to be able to consider a bicycle a form of transportation again, instead of being winded in less than two miles and downright exhausted and shaky after only 8 miles. My medications do not help with that but my weight is a bigger factor. If my cardio health were better, maybe I could decrease my medications. That's a goal at least. Maybe my knees and back would hurt less too. I'm too young to feel this old!

Welcome to the team, Jessica! I am so happy that you decided to stick with us. SparkPeople has this way of automatically adding new members to teams that match their goals and interests. Some people stay, and some people don't. Some don't even take notice to the fact that they belong to a team. We have a great little community here and hope to provide all the support that you need. There is a December Challenge going on right now. Feel free to jump right in! I am happy that you've decided to think of your health before conceiving. It will make a pregnancy so much easier. And don't forget to continue on your healthy journey throughout a pregnancy. Check with your doctor, but I know that when I was pregnant, I had clearance to not gain as long as baby was growing accordingly. Being overweight will allow for that, just be sure to not overtax yourself and always listen to your body.

Hi, everyone. I am sort of new to Spark People. I have visited this webpage before, but am just now committing to joining it. I downloaded the app first and have been using it for a week now. This is my first time logging in to the actual webpage as a member. I saw I had an email from this group even though I hadn't signed up. Decided that I may as well join in.

My name is Jessica. I am 26 and live on Maui. I am married without kids. Both my husband and I have been overweight for awhile now and we have finally decided to do something about it. I currently weigh 220ish. The lowest I have been is about 160, which was right after high school. I gained most of my weight back and then some after getting married. (During high school I was around 180-190). My goal weight is about 150.

I mostly want to be healthy and to feel good about the way I look. Another reason for my decision is we are trying to have a baby. I really want to be healthy before conceiving. If it happens before my goal weight then I am okay with that.

We just recently joined one of the gyms here. I get a bit of a discount because of where I work. So I thought why not. We have been members for a week, but so far have only gone twice. But I am hoping to start going about 5 times a week.

Also I am hoping that being part of an online community will help with my weight loss goals and to keep me motivated.

Hello, I am newish to Spark People. I have joined a couple times, I've done a lot of things a couple times. I just recently turned 21 and realized that since I finally started getting my life on track I need to get my weight on track. Also the only real conversation my parents have with me anymore is when they either want something, or to complain about my weight. I love them and want their respect and attention, but no longer at the expense of my body and mind.

Thought I would use my first blog post as my introduction. :)

Hello everyone! I'm a 29 year old Florida girl. I was a vegan for almost 11 years, but in the last 5 years, I have gained almost 80 pounds. I am recently engaged to someone I have known for 9 years, we have been together for 3 1/2.

My best size was 5 years ago, when I was 145, at a height of 5'9. I have always had plenty of friends, loved to laugh, and have thrived on being social. However, while I was so distracted with simply having fun, I took for granted how comfortable in my own skin I was.

In spite of being so social, and even when people thought I was beautiful, I always kept other at arms length. In my early 20's, I came to accept that this had a lot to do with not only being adopted, but also a pastors daughter, in an extremely conservative religion, that taught against pants, makeup, jewelry, cutting your hair, etc. Focus was never to be on looks, so I took them for granted. I never learned to be happy with who I was, because I felt like I didn't belong where I was. I came from somewhere different, and could never relate. I didn't look like them, I didn't feel like them, I didn't fit in. Insecurity came early for me.

Since gaining weight, it's been a strange change. I've learned more about who I am, and started to accept who I am as a person, what I truly love, who I want to be, what I believe, but still... Not paying attention to who I was on the outside, and living unhealthy, affected my emotions and moods in a way where, when things did start to change for me, and I went through some really, really, rough times, I didn't handle them the way I would have, had I taken care of myself mentally and physically.

So, this is all about me. I know that where I want to be, and who I want to become as a person, starts with learning to love myself. And to love myself, I have to take care of myself. I need to eat and act, in a way that will make me a productive person, not a depressed person. There have been so many things I've failed to accomplish because of depression, overwhelming insecurities, and fear. I need to learn to see in me what other people see in me, and learn that people don't stop liking me because I gained weight. I need to stop hiding from my friends, from my fiance, and from myself.

Easier said than done.

Anyway. I'm looking to make new friends on here, and be motivated by others, as well as hope motivate you.

Look forward to meeting you!

xo

Welcome REIAMS! First off congrats on losing 40 already! I'm sure the 80 more won't be so hard to accomplish. I'm also from Canada and have been interested in indoor rock climbing, it seems like it would be an amazing work out.. if I could pass the first rock lol! I'd have to do the baby course.

Hey, I'm a 23 year old university student from Canada. I have lost over 40 lbs, and want to lose another 80 lbs or so.

I love to travel, cook, read, go to concerts and spend time with fam and friends.

I actually really enjoy exercising and I go to the gym as often as I can. I do both cardio and strength training, and I'm also on a recreational volleyball team. Some activities I want to try this winter are a Pilates class, indoor rock climbing and cross country skiing.

The only journey is the journey within.

Hey everyone, I'm Brittany. I am 25 years old looking to lose about 50 pounds. I work as a phlebotomist and I am a full time student with one more semester to go! I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in June and have always wanted to lose weight and I tried on and off with out really committing. I never thought it get this far and this is what it takes to motivate me to lose weight. Since June my A1c and cholesterol have dropped significantly with the use of medication, but I also want to lose weight to be happy as well as healthy. Like most of you I binge eat when I am depressed or bored. I live with my husband, parents, 3 dogs, cat and potbelly pig. My mom keeps saying she'll workout and eat right with me and it seems like its hard for the both of us to start. So hopefully this Spark People community will be the motivation and encouragement that I need.

Hello! I am Bre. I am 22 and 60-70 pounds heavier than I want to be at a current weight of 190. I work two jobs, student teach, run a Cub Scout pack and am a full time student. (Whew! Lots to keep me busy!) No kids but a boyfriend of 2 years, a dog and a tortoise keep me company.

I have always struggled with emotional binge eating and sticking to any exercise after the first day of DOMS. Lots of weight related ailments in my family make me want to get heathly but I always lose hope after the first few weeks (sometimes days) that I'll ever be able to. :-(

But! I know I can keep plodding along and I'll get where I need to be! I am hoping to find a support group here because my family is very discouraging. My boyfriend tries to be supportive but is such a sweet-tooth (and sweetheart) that he's always overfeeding me lots of carb-y and sugary foods. My protests are always answered with "You got to eat! You can't just starve yourself!" accompanied by some big sad puppy eyes. Needless to say, he's very slender and highly athletic so doesn't understand why I struggle so hard with weight, because he never has.

Anyway, here's hoping!

Hi everyone! I'm Mikka, 27 years old. I need to lose 28 kg (around 61 lb?) to reach my goal weight and this time keep it off. I have struggled with emotional eating and binge/fasting periods since I was 23. SparkPeople is my hope for controlling what I eat and get healthy the slow and steady way. I'm glad to be part of this team!

Hello everyone.

My name is Darien. I'm going to be 23 in January. I have about 50 pounds to lose, perhaps more in the future. I've been dealing with weight issues for most of my life. I think the biggest problems I face are emotional eating and using more nutrient dense foods in my diet.

Hi everyone, I'm Jennifer. I'm a 26 year old nurse who has about 55 pounds to lose. I work night shift and struggle with depression, so I've got that going against what little motivation I may have. I'm ready to get serious about losing weight. My current goal is to lose 10 pounds by January 15 which is my next doctor appointment (and my doctor would be so proud of me!). My doctor is the one who suggested social media or online support groups to act as accountability for me, so that's what I'm trying here. That and working on exercising at least 3 times a week for starters. Here goes something!

Hi everyone! I just joined last night, after a few things made me realize that I have to get serious about losing my extra weight... about 80 lbs to get to back into the healthy BMI, but we'll see where I actually end up. I'm 24, work in an office and live in Canada. Looking to meet/find others on the same journey to help encourage and keep accountable

Hey guys! I just joined today and can't wait to get started and to know yall! I have about 60 pounds that I want to lose, and then will reevaluate my goals at that point! I am a graduate student and I'm engaged so I'm in that weird awkward stage where I don't feel like a kid, but definitely don't feel like an adult (even though I'll be 26 next month)!

Umm... so I'm completely new to all this, but my name is Becca, and I'm 23 and I have a long way to go to get to the weight I want to get to (I haven't actually counted how many pounds I have to lose. But it's a lot).
I've failed every other time I've tried to lose weight, so I'm hoping this time will be different. I noticed there are challenges going on right now for the month of November, so I'm gonna start with those and see how it goes :)

Hey guys & gals, I'm Kayla, I'm 27 years old, I am a mommy of 2 young kids. I live in Kentucky with my boyfriend. I had lost 130 lbs but gained 40 back. I am in the process of losing those 40 lbs again + another 30. I often fall off the wagon and it takes me weeks to get going again.

So here's to getting started on shedding those lbs.
Good luck to everyone!!!

Hi Everyone!

My name is Ashley and I am 23 years old. I have been wanting to lose weight for too long but I'm just horrible at consistency. I started to really get back on track over two years ago and lost roughly 20 lbs but gained everything back and then some. Living on my own for the first time and find it hard to get motivated. Also, about everyone I know are starting to get married and I really want to look good in my bridesmaid outfit. Not to mention my own wedding in the next 3-4 years. I hope that talking to people and keeping everything on track will help motivate me to stay with it. God bless y'all!

I'm sure I've posted on here over a year ago but I've just recently returned.

I'm Enya, I'm 26 years old. I have two dogs and I'm currently back on track to the whole losing weight and eating right. I've been working on it for 2 and a half months and lost 34 pounds...I'm looking to lose another 63.. about... I have a long journey ahead of me! But I guess I haven't been doing too bad without sparkpeople. I just love the motivation and the support I get from other people, so that's a big reason I came back. I hope everyone is well :) and welcome to all the new members.

Hello everyone, my name is Shaya. I'm 25 years old and have 2 kids (5 and 7) and have been married to my high school sweetheart for 7 years. I've been on SP since July but just joined this team. My story is when my father had a heart attack when I was thirteen I became anorexic. I battled with anorexia for 4 years till I found out I was pregnant. Worried about my health My mom told me "when you're hungery the baby is hungry." So I did eat and had a healthy baby girl... along with 60 pounds to add to my new life as a mom. I always danced in high school and that was enough exercise so when high school was over and I had all the extra weight, I just didn't workout if I didn't like it... which was everything. It didn't help that 2 years to the day I brought a bouncing baby boy into the world. Now with a 2 year old and a newborn and now pushing 200 pounds... I had no time, no experience and no willpower to exercise. Now my son has started kindergarten and my daughter is into every sport known to man. It's time for me to get in shape. My starting goal is to lose 64 pounds with lean muscle but to be my healthy textbook weight I need to lose between 85-93 pounds. My anorexic past is still taking its toll. I eat about 1000 a day when I should be eating double and a half of that. If anyone wants to talk you can friend me. I get on SP quite often and will reply quickly. Hope you have a spark filled day everyone.

Hello. I'm Max. I'm 28. My goal is to lose 90 lbs in one year. I've never tried to lose weight or be healthy, but I see where my parents are and the consequences of their unhealthy choices and I don't want to be there. I want to learn to eat healthy on a small budget, find exercises that I love and enjoy, to run marathons. But I'll start small.

Welcome back Kate. Like you, I fall off the wagon and it's getting really hard to get back on track. I'm tired of giving up and I'm struggling to be consistent and persistent. I realized I don't work hard enough to meet my goal and is time to change.

Hi there.

My Name is Kate and I am 26 years old. I have used SparkPeople before and fallen off the wagon, but recently really looked at where I am and I hate it. I recently resigned from my job in the last month to avoid being fired, and I was apathetic. I realized I had no passion for my job anymore. I was bored. Also I just had no energy or drive. If I want to be successful in my next job I need to have that, I need to love me and be willing to sell it, right now I am not.

My Starting goal is to lose 73 pounds by my 27th Birthday. May 6th, 2015.

Hi everybody,

My name is Stephen, I'm 25, am returning to school, and trying to get back into shape as part of my own sort of mission to improve myself and feel better about myself in order to be a greater asset and inspiration for my family. I have not had the drive to start down this journey and due to personal issues, have not had the self-esteem or confidence to even consider pushing myself in doing anything. Thankfully I have a support system to help me now that I seriously lacked before. I'm looking forward to getting back to a better place.

Hey everyone, I am Amber and I am 26 years old. I have an extremely busy 1 year old that I want to get healthier for. I have tried this journey before and usually once I get into my asthma starts kicking my butt and I go back to my old ways. I am hoping that being home with my son and being able to watch him and my stepdaughter grow up will motivate me to get my weight down and keep it there. I am currently 196 and would like to be around 150, by the time I turn 27, so end of next august. Good luck to everyone and their weight loss goals!

Hello everyone! My name is Shandi and I am a new mom. I have my 2 month old daughter Lilly as my biggest inspiration. I want to lose weight and get in shape so that I can keep up her. I don't want her to be embarrassed by me and my weight and i don't want her childhood to be limited by it either. I've always been overweight and i had miserable self-esteem issues because of it. I don't want her to go through what i went through. So this is the reason why i am reaching out for help.

My name is Liz, this is a second go around for SparkPeople for me. I just went for my annual check up and was given the news that I might be diabetic. I have to do more testing to see for sure, but it has sparked a new motivation for me to really focus on my health and weight. I am 29, a RN case manager for a pediatric home health agency and I absolutely love my job.

Wow! It's so wonderful to have so many new team members!

I'd like to extend a very warm welcome to Lindsey, Evelyn, Katie, Amber, Carlene, Ryane, Priscilla, SHINY90, ERINOUELLETTE, Heidi, SAUCEYNOWSY, Caity, Leah, Melissa, Natalya, Tiara, Gloria, Dani, Nisha, Elizabeth, Ami, Nikki, Amanda, Amanda, SHOEBOXOFLIES, Brianna, Ashly, Olivia, Holly, Amanda, Jaymie, Katy, Sara, Haley, Stephanie, Heather, Martinez, Allysa, Meghan, Angie, Brandie, Alyssa, Taryn, Courtney, Sara, Jenny, Courtney, Nicki, NATS2907 and Anika.

Heidi- I am very sorry on the loss of your father. Stay strong.

Leah- Congratulations on your promotion!

Brandie - If you refer back to the first post on this thread, you'll find my helpful starting tips. Or at least I hope they're helpful anyway.

Nicki - It's so easy to gain weight while breastfeeding. It seems so logical that you'd lose considering that you're burning up so many calories nursing, but I think we over eat to compensate. Remember, even with the twins, you're still only burning about 700 calories by nursing. My 11 month old is starting to wean mostly during the day thanks to solid foods (She's a little piggy too… eats more than her 3.5 year old sister), and I think I feel more hungry as of late than I had in the past year. Makes it exceedingly easy to overeat. Drink lots of fluids and see if that helps.

Anika - I know exactly how you feel. My hubby is the same way with the fast food. We have to eat McDonalds about twice a week, and we get Dunkin Donuts about 3 times a week. The important thing is to make as healthy choices as possible when in those situations. The best suggestion I have is to try your best to make meals regularly. When you do the cooking, it's a lot easier to control what you're eating that way. Most men are generally happy with just about anything that you feed them as long as they don't have to be the one cooking it. And trust me, when they're hungry, they'll end up eating it eventually anyway.

Hi, my name is Anika I'm 29 years old and recently started a new diet and exercise program. I'm at the heaviest I've ever been and very unhappy with how I look. Had been debating doing gastric surgery but decided I just wouldn't feel good about myself if I didn't really try to lose the weight on my own first. I've dieted in the past but never with much success. This time around, I'm working with a health coach and am doing okay so far. Starting weight was 255, as of yesterday it's 250. I had lost 7 pounds but gained 2 of them back over the weekend. My biggest problem right now is my husband lol. He is a thinner man with a high metabolism and has never had to watch what or how much he eats. Because of that, he's not willing to make any changes with me. So over the weekend, it was fast food eating a couple of meals. Any suggestions to help with this in the future would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys, I'm 24 and would like to lose about 60lbs! My problem has always been staying consistent to see really big results, so that's my main aim now. I'm hoping being part of SP will help with that :) I'm looking for some weight loss buddies so we can inspire and motivate each other, so please feel free to add me if you're looking for the same. Good luck with your journey!

I have been on Sparks People in the past and loved it. After having my twins, I am struggling very badly! I weigh more now then when I was pregnant with them. I am breastfeeding both of them and gaining weight!!! How does that even happen?!?!

I NEED to do something about myself and NOW. I could use all the advice, motivation, and accountability I can have!

Hey y'all. My name is Courtney. I'm a 28 year old nurse practitioner from Mississippi. Starting weight at the beginning of 2014 was 235, I lost about 8 lbs then kind of stalled until the beginning of this month. I've lost 8 more lbs since the beginning of August. I still have about 89lb to go.

Hi all. Sara, 29, from NJ (if my username wasn't obvious enough). I lost 40 pounds with SP back in 2009, but I fell off the wagon, and am back here again. I am starting now with about 18 pounds less than 2009, with the same goal weight in mind, so this time I need to lose about 57 pounds.

This site, community, really works. The people, the articles, the games, all really help with motivation. For me, the problem was thinking I no longer needed it, but now I realize how successful it made me. I look forward to giving and receiving support from all of you. Please feel free to reach out to me at any time!

Hi everyone...!

My name is Taryn, I'm 23 and I live in Inverurie with my boyfriend. Since I have been living independently, my weight has been slowly been on the increase. Then I got into a bad relationship and my weight shot right up due to comfort eating. Then I broke up with him and kept comfort eating out of misery.

I'm now in a new better relationship but, of course, the weight has hung around and I'm trying to break my bad habits, and lose all of the evil weight that I have put on these past couple of years. Until recently, my weight has always been distributed well, but now my arms are chunky, my belly has bloated out and I have no energy :(

I remember my mum used SparkPeople a few years back (I dunno if she still does but she was known as nellgwyn if anyone knows her ?) and she received loads of support and tips when she was losing weight and getting healthier. So looking forward to talking to new people and maybe making friends x

Hi all! My name's Alyssa and I'm trying this all over again. I'm hoping maybe if I stick with a group and do some challenges that maybe this time around I won't get discouraged and give up. I've always been the "chunky" one, though I admittedly seem to carry my weight well (people usually stare at me in shock when I tell them how much I actually weigh, a few times I've been told, "No way! You don't look it!!"). But at 28 and coming in at 232 pounds, I've decided enough is ENOUGH! So, here we go again!

Looking forward to meeting people, swapping stories and encouragement and hopefully making some friends that will help me stay motivated and not to let the set backs get me down.

Hello, my name is Allysa. I am looking to lose 60 pounds. I am currently 207 and my ultimate goal is to be anywhere from 150 to 145 pounds. My biggest problem is I love food and as soon as I start to eat healthy and change my diet and how much I consume I cant stop thinking about it.
I am going to be moving to a new town that is known for its outdoors so I plan to do as much outside exercise and exploring as I can to help me lose weight.

Hi, my name is Martinez Dysard. I hope to lose 70 pounds using SP. I have a pretty bad medical history on my dads' side. It consists of heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol, asthma, obesity and even cancer. On my moms' side is high blood pressure and glaucoma. I have been big my entire life and am currently morbidly obese. I want to lose weight to be happier, healthier and more confident as well as be an example to my family of how drastically a healthy lifestyle can change someone. I really, really, really want an accountability buddy and would love to find one within this group. I have no problem encouraging and pushing others but when it comes to myself, it is much harder.

Commitment means staying loyal to what you said you were going to do long after the mood you said it in has left you.

Hello all! My name is Heather and I am from East Tennessee. I would love to lose around 50 pounds by spring of next year. I've been up and down on the scale for a while now, but I am ready to get back on track for good and develop consistent healthy habits. I would love to have some support from others as well as give support in return. emoticon

Hi, I'm Haley. I live in GA and I am 23 y.o. I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when I was 5 and my synthroid hasn't worked since just about the same time. I've never full on charged at this weight loss thing with the ultimate fierce like I would like to do. It is going to be very hard with my schedule but I am determined to make it work. I work at a bail bonding company. I work 12 hours shifts, 5pm-5am, and I work 4 nights on and then have 4 nights off. (So, yes, the nights rotate.) It's very hard for me to have a SET schedule based on these hours/rotating nights. I have no choice but to eat at weird times that normal people don't eat at, that being said I sleep when most people are awake so I have gathered I just need to work at this as if I lived on the opposite side of the country. I am going to need a lot of help, I am currently around 280 lbs and would ultimately love to be in the 100s BUT my main goal to start is at least get down to 200. Thanks for reading!

Hey everyone. I'm Sara and am starting my spark tracking today!

While I've always had ups and downs my weight really got out of control while I was in college. I started college at around 150lbs. About 6 months after graduating I was at 210lbs. I felt ill ALL OF THE TIME and was always tired. I didn't have any more excuses and hitting the "over 200" mark really got me going to live a healthier lifestyle. I lost 20lbs earlier this year for my wedding but got really lax and gained a little back and starting to feel sick all of the time again. Its time for me to get back on the horse and carry my goal ALL THE WAY through.

My husband just got his Personal Training Certification so I'll try to share any wisdoms he passes on to me! Only bad thing is its harder to get trained by your spouse than you would think lol. I'm more concerned with health than looks but I will admit that although my husband loves me and tells me I'm beautiful every day, I feel guilty for being overweight when I'm the wife of a personal trainer. I'm 23 and my goal is to lose 50 lbs by the end of January 2015. Wish me luck!

I live in OK and love art, kittens, video games, star wars and super heroes.

Hello all!

My name is Jaymie. I've been using Sparkpeople semi-regularly for a little over a year now and have changed my life with some great results, but I'm needing to get back on track for my ultimate long-term goals.

My journey started in January 2014 when I was at my highest measured weight: 342 lbs. I made small incremental changes, sought out part-time jobs at my college requiring more physical activity, and took a more positive approach to it all. To my surprise, by my next doctor's visit in April I was at 325 lbs! Unfortunately within the following week I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and high blood pressure. I needed to keep the momentum, and luckily I had the support of a caring doctor, loving husband, great family and friends. I approached my new habits as a lifestyle change, caring not about counting calories but about balancing my meals, and I tried my best to take advantage of my physically active jobs. By August 2013 I was at 283 pounds, normal blood pressure levels and borderline healthy (5.6%) A1C! In just 4 months I no longer had to be on any medications :). I kept the momentum throughout that semester despite some setbacks in my personal life and reached 263 lbs at the end of December. Almost 80 lbs felt like a victory for me.

In 2014 I have had a harder time keeping my momentum as demands at school, work and home have increased (it was the last semester of my undergraduate career!) but I have still found success in 2 ways: a) I did lose a couple of inches on my waist and hips and b) managed to keep my weight within 10 lbs of my benchmark for the past 7 months. All that is great, but...

I'm ready to get "back on the horse" and reach my 100-lb mark by the end of 2014. This will be a challenge as I'm starting graduate school in August, but I know I'm capable! I'm up for supporting others on their journey as well as mine :)

Hiyo!

I am Amanda, and I am from Canada. I have a long way to go on my weight loss journey, but thats okay because I got myself here, and I can get myself started on my health journey too. Of course, support from you wonderful people will keep me motivated.

I have Diabetes, as well as a skin condition that can make exercising very painful but I do it anyways.

I am still learning the ropes, as I just joined but I am super glad to be here.

When we are no longer able to change a situation - we are challenged to change ourselves.
