Army airborne medic, Jun 67 - Apr 73. Two tours as field medic, and a purple heart or two. Have been disabled for long time and made myself worse being a couch potato. NO MORE!!
Been on a weight loss program of my own for about two months, found Sparks about a month ago, been addicted to getting points ever since. Loosing about a pound a week.

I pursue my own unique life path, the right and ideal path for me. I am always given all that I need in order to fulfill my purpose here in the world.

Hello everyone! Navy Dec 1979 - Dec 1999. California, Virginia, Spain, Italy, Texas. Stumbled upon the team looking for a buddy in San Antonio, TX area. Glad you all are here. This is the best site ever. Really got me up and moving and eating more healthy. I too retired and stopped activity as much and started gaining weight(eating like a pig). Also want to get off the high blood pressure pills and lower risk for Type II Diabetes. emoticon

Hi everyone, I am an Army Vet, and just moved back home. I work at a VA hospital on the administrative side, and enjoy working with other vets. I some how stumbled on this team, and thought it was a good fit. I miss my time in the Army, and I have to admit that I have running cadence's on mu iphone to run to. I am trying to get into "deployment" shape. Like I was in when I was on deployment.

I've been on Spark People for over 3 years now. Not really worried about my weight, but like to stay active. When winter rolls around I'm usually hiking someplace, but here in AZ that is about 6 months away. So for now its pump the iron on the porch and do the exercise and elipitcal till it cools off.

Hey all! SSG Twedt here! Just started up with Spark People after recommending it to people for years. I had never really needed the tracking system involved as I was in great shape as a teen and in my early 20's. As life goes on I've noticed that my metabolism is starting to taper off and I'm packing on the pounds! I want to get back to my prime so I can show my troops that I still have what it takes! A big goal of mine is to max the Army Physical Fitness Test in October. Oh, and I'm a reservist, never been on active duty, but I've spent over a year in Iraq. Good luck to everyone here, stick with it!

Hi everybody! I was a Marine for 11 years. I used to run from one end of Camp Pendleton off of Basilone Road, all the way to Vandegrift on Base. Today I ran 8 miles. We are back at Camp Pendleton and I will once again run the distance again. Oorahh to all and Semper Fi.

I loved working with all the services. At one point, I was a Marine who worked on a Navy watch floor at an Army Field Station and lived across the street at an Air Force Base. Loved it.

I just passed tape today and completed the rest of the physical test, as well. The fitness part of the test has never really been my problem. Which is why I'm here, yes I know I said that I just passed the tape but I was right at the limit. So for me it all about sliming down and so far I've lost 18 lbs. Only 43 to go to make wiegh ins and drop the taping all together.

Welcome D! I hear ya about the tape thing because when I was in, the last time, that's what I had to do. I had started gaining, slowly and when it came to weigh in's, I was screwed. Tried to the neck thing, cause you know they say if your neck is bigger, that seems to even things out...what a load of c... lol anyway I wish I was still in, but my guess, is cardio...do you have to run? Maybe some of our guys here can give you some tips....SanDiego John is really great on motivating, and just being here with vets, is enough to kick my butt....:)

Hi,

I'm 36 in the military, outgoing, social, and a bit of a geek. I watch G4, the Science Channel and just about any halfway decent english dubbed anime out there. I like tech gear (Big screen TVs, high end computers and video games, though I don't play on them too much either of them.), hanging out with my felllow geeks running games, going to gaming/anime conventions, river rafting, back packing, boogyboarding, dancing alone with someone special or out at the clubs and/or just hanging out with my kids. On a more personal note I write free form poetry and I'm a bit of a romantic. I joined to get in better shape for the military and to look good for when I go clubbing and to conventions.

Hallo!!! all present and accounted for! :)

For me, and I know I can speak for the rest of us as well, when we were in, we had to stay under weight, right? Then after we got out (my last time was 97), the pressure was not there, and we had to find a way to motivate ourselves. Thanks John for starting this area of SP, I love ya!!!!!

Feeling great today, and I've lossed another 1/2 lb. For me, I am on my way to loose the weight and it's coming off, but more, it the fire that keeps lit since I have found this spot!!!

Hi, my name is Ellen and I'm a Navy vet who served from 1973 to 1977. I seem to be in an endless loop since I joined SP back in 2008 - lose weight, get injured, recover, lose weight, get injured, etc. I always gain the weight back while I'm injured and then struggle to get back on track.

Now that I've recovered from a broken elbow, I need to work on consistently exercising and tracking my food.

Remember, nobody can go back to the very beginning and make a brand new start, but anyone can start here and make a brand new end.

There's a difference between interest and commitment. When you're interested in doing something, you do it only when it's convenient. When you're committed to something, you accept no excuses; only results."

How's it going everyone? My name is Jorge. I have been on Spark People for about a month now, and things have been going great. I was enlisted with the Air Force from 2003-2007. The highlight of my enlistment was when I went to Afghanistan. I don't recall any other time when I saw so much camaraderie.

I've been out for close to 4 years. In that time I managed to gain 30 lbs due to my enjoyment of eating unhealthy foods. I decided that things needed to change at the beginning of last year. As of now, I have lost 30 lbs, and I have about 15 more to go. My goal is to get under 190 lbs and nver hit over 200 again. While I may not have looked completely out of shape at the time, my knees and ankles told me otherwise. It's also never fun when you can't keep up with your kids for more than 10 minutes at a time.

So, here I am. I've been doing the Insanity workout for almost 4 weeks now and it's been absolutely phenomenal. I'm looking forward to getting to know folks on here, and I am more than happy to point people in the right direction if they need help in any way. I'm not going to wish anyone luck because I know everyone is more than capable of achieving their fitness goals so long as they possess the motivation and determination to do so. That is all.

The words "I can't" are like a cancerous disease...they eat at you until there is nothing left to consume. By saying "I can't" you are killing yourself before even giving yourself so much as a chance to live. I WILL push forward, I WILL dig deep, and I WILL succeed at achieving my goals. Thus, I WILL live on!

You can also follow me on blogger: insane-with-insanity.blogspot.com/

My name is Alyssa. I was recently medically separated from the Air Force. I'm looking for work in the local area since my husband is still in and realizing that it's much easier said than done! In the meantime, though, I'm focusing on getting back to how I was when I first joined...before the medical condition that forced me to stop PT for an entire pregnancy and 9 months postpartum as well.
SparkPeople has been a great tool for me on this journey to a healthier lifestyle and I enjoy coming on here and encouraging others (and getting a swift kick when I need it!). I look forward to continuing this journey with each of you and thank all of your for your service to our great country!

My name is Angela. I retired in 2007 after 20 years in the Air Force. I'm not working in Tampa Florida as a government civilian. I love my job, the daily challenges it brings, and the different people I get to work with. I interact with all Services and find it interesting how each has their own "personality". I'm hoping to meet new people and create some long-time friends. Oh, and of course I want to lose weight. Instead of the "freshman 20" it was the "retired 20" LOL.

Hey Suzy, nice to see you on the Vets Team.

Can I trouble you to copy your message into a new message of your own? I'm hoping we can each have our own "intro" messages so new people don't get lost in a long, long thread.

Thanks!

SDJ

I am suzyintexas, retired after 20 years in the Army. It was from 1980-2000. I am so glad to find a group about my fellow veterans. I got out in 2000 and have slowly gained weight. I am looking for motivation to keep me determined to lose the weight.

I am looking forward to learning new ways to lose the weight and keep it off. Hopefully I will not get bored with counting calories and stick with the program this time.

Take a moment to check in and let us know a little about you. You can write anything you choose, but if you need a little help with what to post, try this as a starting point:

Name
Rank/Service
Dates of Service
Why You're Here at Spark People

Mine, for example:

Create your own message thread like I did in the example linked above. (That way, we make sure that we do not miss any new members joining the team.)
