Hi Susan,
After reading your post I wanted to let you know that there are so many members here at SP who are so willing to help & support! There is actually a teachers' team called "Teachers Learning to Lose". If you haven't already, you might want to check that team out also. I have a few SP teacher friends and checked out their pages to see if such a team existed and it
does. :)

Frank is right in that it can be done. I have read many blogs about emotional eating. Don't feel alone, b/c you're not the only one! There are many really informative articles re: that topic and so many others that are great. Knowledge is power. That power and SP support can help you have the strength to reach your goals!

If you need anything or have questions, feel free to go to my page and ask. I'll help all I can!
Good luck! ~ Tobi

Wow, I can only imagine what you are going through. I firmly believe that you will find an abundance of support through SP. I am inspired in the fact that you have faced this demon and are looking for help. Most of us have gone through this ourselves.

My journey is one of being overweight all of my adult life. Actually hit 315 pounds once. My cholesterol, triglycerides and other critical things were off the chart. I have had cardiac problems since around 1980 and had my first CABG (Cardiac Artery Bypass Graft) in 1991. Still didnt "get the message" I was diagnosed Type 2 diabetic in 1996 and that is when I knew in my heart that I was face to face with the disease that would end up beating me so I swore to beat it.

My weight still bounced around and after having to have my second CABG in 2009 I decided then and there that "If its to be, its up to me!" I joined SP exactly a year ago and I have gone from 226 lb to 181 today with 10 or so to go.

More importantly, my cholesterol has dropped from a high of over 500 to 83, my trigs from a high of over 800 to less than 50 and my A1c from a life time high of 12 to 5.2.

I am not bragging but I have delineated my story to tell you that IT CAN BE DONE. The fact that you have decided to face this demon and take him on tells me that you, too,, can master this critter.

I wish you all the support that I can offer and I know that you will see this level of support from SP. Good luck and God speed. Contact me anytime if you feel the need.

I am 40 - 50 pounds overweight. I hate admitting that. I am at the highest weight number I have ever been at in my life. Once upon a time, I had no problems dropping pounds when I decided to, but no longer. My goal was to get started with SparkPeople at the beginning of the new year, which I did. I also managed to lose 7 pounds fairly quickly. Then I managed to gain them back, plus a few, very quickly. I am a teacher in Georgia where many changes are taking place in education. It is no longer a common belief that teachers know how to teach and we are being loaded down with added stresses to our jobs. I like to try to eat my stress away. There are other stress factors in my life, too, and eating is something that brings me pleasure. I no longer eat to live, but live to eat! I am very disappointed in myself and hate what I have become. I do not have much of a support group around me. I want to use SparkPeople to help me, but with work, a master's program, and family, I tend to not find the time to spend on the website. I have to make a change!! My cholesterol numbers are really high and I come from a history of heart disease. My brother died of a massive heart attack when he was 29 YEARS OLD! I am contemplating meds to help, and I am totally against them. I have preached against weight loss meds for a long, long time. Somebody help me please.
