Hi Michelle, Welcome to Spark People! I'm so sorry that you are going through your health problems! Hopefully, now that you know what the problems are, you can learn to deal with them. Possibly even cure them. Keeping track of what you eat and how you react to them is an excellent idea! I would take that journal in to the Dr with you when you go.

Hi!! My name is Michelle. I am a friend of Cindi's. I am a 42 year old SAHM. I was hospitalized on 4/13/2011 with pancreatitis. I got out of the hospital on 4/20/2011. I knew the pancreatitis was better, but that something was severely wrong. Ten days later, 4/30/201, I was hospitalized again with pancreatitis. I was realised from the hospital on 5/3/2011. This time they took me off the Topomax I was taking for migraines. The doctor said in 1% of people it caused pancreatitis. They set me up to see a GI on 8/2/2011. I don't think I will make it that long.
I called a repretable general surgeon and made an appointment for 5/11/2011. I had a mrcp on 5/18/2011. It showed my pancreas was enlarged but that everything should be working fine. On 6/1/2011, I had a gastro emptying study done.
I learned yesterday, 6/3/2011, I have gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a condition in which your stomach cannot empty itself of food in a normal fashion. It is caused by damage to the vagus nerve, which regulates the digestive system. A damaged vagus nerve prevents the muscles in the stomach and intestine from functioning, preventing food from moving through the digestive system properly. It is wonderful to know that I am not crazy. I actually have something wrong in addition to the pancreatitis
Now I have an appointment to see the general surgeon again on 6/15/2011 and to have an a scope run 6/17/2011. I don't have insurance so these doctor appointments and tests are adding up the $$.
I have read up on GP on the internet. Ok! Low fat/Low fiber diet, with foods that are easily digestable. Sort of similar to a diet for chronic pancreatitis. Low fat/low carb diet. So what does this allow me to eat? Well now I know why baked chicken bothered me. Funny how Pepsi didn't seem to bother me and even helped me burp. (Yes, I burp alot!)
I seem to be continuously nausious, in pain, bloated or all three. I was a picky eater before I became so sick. I am afraid of what I am going to have to give up (corn, strawberries, etc.) and also what am going to have to learn to like (mush??)
Can gastroparesis triger pancreatitis or does pancreatitis cause gastroparesis? Is there any correlation? My head is spinning with questions and my stomach is so sick!
I am hoping to use SparkPeople to track the number of Calories, Carbs, Fat, and Fiber I consume each day. I am also keeping a journal on what I am able to eat without problems and what really causes problems. I guess I am learning through trial and error.
