Have not found a class but Square dancing was my exercise today. At the Farmers market/Food coop Summer party. I was the only one in square dancing outfit Dress and fluffy slip but the last time I had this dress on was about 15 years ago and it fit. at least I moved my hipps so my skirt would flare.
Personally I would go with cabaret first because it is going to be more cardio than tribal. Tribal uses more muscle control and slow movements. Also, I have found cabaret more beginner friendly. With your newness and wanting to loss weight, that would be my choice.

Hi everyone! I'm Emery, live in NC, and just completed my first formal belly dancing class. It was a blast, and we have our first hafla tomorrow, where I'm performing with the group! I went in to the class thinking that belly dancing was relatively easy...but I was quickly proven wrong. It's the most fun I've ever had sweating!
I'd really like to continue the classes, and my instructor offers both and intermediate, traditional class and a tribal class. I'd love to take both if money allows, but I may have to pick one. Any thoughts on these two styles from the more experienced dancers? I've been watching videos on YouTube and love both styles, so I'm torn!
I'm also looking for more SparkFriends to share in the journey, so feel free to add me as a friend! I'm not great about posting to message boards, but I love to chat on personal pages!
Happy New Year, and keep shimmying your way to your goal!
(not exactly belly dancing, but as close as I could get with these emoticons...)
